Question of COM port

I don't know if it's a question of LabVIEW, or just a more general question, but in any case I'm stuck!

A piece of equipment that we have just received the laboratory is a Geokon LC - 2 x 16 data logger , which is used to read in 16 (vibrating wire type) meters of the strain.

Unfortunately, data acquisition comes with its own proprietary software, I still love to avoid if possible.

The reason is that I have a lot of different pieces of instrumentation and I wish I had all the coordinates in LabVIEW for various reasons, but basically I just have more control and customization in this way.

In all cases, Geokon software must be running in order to execute the Datalogger (caused by excitation of the strain gauges, communication, etc.).

This software communicates with the data acquisition via a COM port.

My hope was that I could just use LabVIEW to listen for traffic on that port and I was able to analyze the data as it came out of a "backdoor" to this type of solution. Once I have given, I can do what I need to do in LabVIEW and avoid other software entirely.

Here's the problem though: If the software Geokon is connected to this specific COM port (i.e. COM 3), no other software can connect to this port simultaneously. I tried with LabVIEW and same Hyperterminal, or to not seem to work.

Someone at - it an idea on how I could go about this?

Cory,

The manual for this contains all ASCII commands for configuration/control instrument.  Should you need to create your own LV driver.

  • Satellite A200 - Sierra data card is not working properly because of the com port

    Hello

I recently used a sierra on Satellite A200 computer laptop data card and devices Bluetooth is to share with the data card com port and lead to the client cannot find the data card.

I tried the data card in lenovo t61 and another computer laptop manufacturer, all of them are working properly.
The question seems to casue of the Satellite A200 laptop.

Everyone meets it or advice please!

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

The data card Sierra uses the same ports com as the internal module of BT?
Well, in this case, you have an opportunity:
You can assign the different port com on the data card Sierra

Check if this is possible in the Device Manager.

On the other hand, you can try to install first the data card Sierra, then BT stack
Perhaps it would be too much work

  • loop and multi com ports

    Hello world

Store device data in Server series of STS (which has 16 com ports).

But I need to use 7 series STS server com ports. I need to read that data 7 com ports and save in a file.

Each com port has a different function (for example the reading of data or display).

    My question is,

    (1) can I use different while loop for each com ports (if each com port have various channels)?

    (2) if I use different while loops for each com ports, will there be problems (like data layering or stacking)?

    (3) using different loops can be considered as parallel processing? (if not, explain pls)

    the most important is

    (4) should I use a main while loop for all com ports 7?

    Kind regards

You can run all ports in parallel, and as long as you don't create other dependencies between the loops, interference will not normally a problem. We do this all the time (32 ports ++), there could be a lot of incoming data on a port, or a slow response from a slave on another port... and you do not want other ports to get affected by it.

With the help of several ports with multiple loops is very rigid though (you will need to re-encode if the number of ports changes). It is best to dynamically create a VI 'port manager' for each port (open a reference to a reentrant VI, one LIVES, or create a copy of a VI on request at the opening, a reference to that - and then run with the run method with the input set to false, queue...) and use queues to get data in and out of each port/port manager.

  • Windows XP does not allow applications to use the virtual serial (COM) Ports

Operating system: Windows XP Professional version 2002 Service Pack 3

I want to use some applications to control virtual serial (COM) on a device of PEARL IOLAN STS8 D/TruePort ports in Windows XP Professional SP3. When I configure the IOLAN/TruePort I see the COM ports in the Windows Device Manager and I am able to configure my applications to use ports.  However, when applications try to open the serial ports, I get an error saying that the port is already in use or does not exist.

I tried various alternatives to remove/re-add the ports 'in use' in Windows before you configure IOLAN/TruePort and applications. This (sometimes) allows me to use the ports but if the PC is turned off later and rebooted the problem reappears.

Is there a reliable way to create and use virtual COM ports in Windows XP?

  • change the com port assigned to the fax and scan

I used fax and scanning for once.  I had to move my external modem to a different port.

I don't know how to change the windows fax and scan com port manually.

the wizard does NOT start, I guess because the fax is installed and worked until I had to change the number of COM port...  I need to change the number of pot with hundreds of research, it seems that no one knows how to change manually the Compote in windows fax and scan, unless they use the wizard.

my assistant does not start. I guess I'm 'old school' I don't need an Assistant, I need to manually change the fax uses com port.

:-), it's frustrating because help said only: click "fax" in the lower left corner, and they all assume the installation wizard starts and everything will be fine. :-(

the wizard does not start. :-(

I am desperate to get my fax work and need to know how to set the correct port number in a system that is installed and running, such as the wizard never starts.

for anyone who goes out at the end of questions and ideas, I have a fax application stand alone who is working with the new port setting. It's just not a good app for my needs

    Please?

    Hi John,.

You can follow the steps below to change the COM port for a modem:

    1. search the Device Manager.

2 look for the Modem device, right-click on it, and then click Properties.

    • If the change settings button is present, you must click on it to make changes to the appliance. If the user account control dialog box appears, confirm that the displayed action corresponds to what you want, and then click continue.
    • If the change settings button is not present, the modem does not support the ability to change the modem settings. Refer to the documentation provided by the vendor of your modem.

    3. on the Advanced tab, click Advanced port settings.

    • If this option is not displayed, the modem does not support the ability to change the assigned COM port. Refer to the documentation provided by the vendor of your modem.

If the same persists, we suggest that you post your query in Microsoft TechNet so that their support team will provide you in-depth assistance.

  • Cannot sync. -Com port in use error

Win7 64 bit, PalmDesk 6.6.6, IR USB dongle. Tungsten E

Has been able to synchronize the first two times with the new IR USB organization. I ended with triple calendar entries so finally was able to remove old items out of PalmDesk and after doing a hard reset on PDA, could clean the scheduling issues so I thought everything was OK.

Then tried another HotSync and kept getting an error on the PDA "Cannot start the HotSync operation because the port is currently in use by another application"

Spent 2-3 hours to get here and other sites for possible solutions. Found none so tried to Soft Reset and then reset hot but neither worked. Finally I did a Hard Reset.

Was able to do a HotSync.  It took 6:30, but it does not seem complete.  Note that my memory is only half full

Now, the real problem.  I wanted to see if I could do a HotSync and did not take hours to complete.  But still, I get the port in use message.

The message comes even if the PDA is not connected to the PC by IR isn't something in the PDA.  He was going to install dbFix, but since I can't synchronize I can't install it.

I note that after the Hard Reset did only 3 options under connections now, I have 6. There is an IR to a PC/handheld, but the details show that it uses really Cradel/cable. There is an infrared for GSM phone but I can not remove or change it. Also of IR to PC with a speed of 28.8 by default.

Solutions, ideas or even wild guess appreciated.

    WyreNut

Thanks for the reply, but you are not the first to suggest not correctly the problem was in the PC.

I have finally resolved and am posting the investigation and the resolution here in the hope that others can solve the problems of strange synchronization they could find out by doing a similar detailed investigation.

The error message not being able to sync because the com port has been used pop up would immediately after recording HotSync. I without having to be connected or even close to a PC to get this error message. I have confirmed that being in front of PC with IR, equipped of Vista 32 bit, so it wasn't a problem with Win 7 64 bit either as I had been able to synchronize PC Win 7 approximately 4 weeks earlier.

I had 4 chat sessions with Palm TREES, where they provided a number of suggestions essentially to tell me that the problem was Win 7 based or 64 - bit based or that I did a Hard Reset if fixed (none of which were correct).

I tried a number of sweet, hot and hard resets. The only time wherever I could sync was after doing a Hard Reset and synchronization takes then 3.5 HOURS to complete. I could never do a second Hot Sync that I always get the error message.

I finally discovered that the list of connections is changing and the individual setting for one of the original connections was changed when I did the sync.

After a Hard Reset, there are three connection options:

PC Via cable/home station, Modem Via station home/cable and IR for PC/handheld Via infrared

When I ran the Hot Sync more than two connections have been added to the list

IR for GSM and GSM BUT phone serial

The surprise that took a few moments to discover that the PC/handheld Via IR computer had its details changed to home/IR obviously cable station, I could use this connection to synchronize this is to create a custom connection which was the PC Via IR.

The dropdown under HotSync would present the old PC/Pocket PC Via IR, but it does not work because he didn't was more IR I would choose the custom, but he made the mistake of com Port conflict

The SOLUTION was to delete all backup and archiving files, install the PC off, do a Hard Reset of the PDA and then do a HotSync.

This time sync took only 5 minutes, the connection list has not been changed and the settings in detail for PC/handheld Via IR were not changed.

I don't know when the commands of GSM phone has been added to the list of options on the PDA, I never used the PDA as a phone. I'm not even sure who's App adding the GSM phone files. He could have been there for years I never had problems with synchronization with USB port and a XP machine. Even the first synchronization IR on Win7 64 bit machine worked so I thought everything was OK.

    Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

  • The COM Ports on Satellite P10 do not work after the conversion to the WXP Pro

I have a P10 (PSP13E-0372V) that I have upgraded from XP Home to XP Pro. Everything went very well and then I discovered that I don't have a COM port or at least Device Manager shows no COM port.

If I try to dial, I get "Error 633 the modem is in use or not configured properly". Back to Bishop device to watch the modem which, it says, works very well. If I query the modem (Diagnostics) told me 'port that the modem is attached could not be opened. "
Also, it is said it is attached to COM3 but I can choose any port and get the same result. (When I change the port I get the message "the port has been opened by another application. Renaming the port may have an unpredictable effect on the other applications")
I tried to remove the modem and restart but no change.

If anyone any ideas how I can get the modem to work.

The modem uses a virtual com port. It s not a real port.
I wonder why it usually happens after the installation of the new operating system, you must install drivers Toshiba together in the right order
Installing the chipset utility is important

The modem driver should do the work and you n t need to activate com ports
Please choose the right side of the page of the Toshiba driver modem driver after installing the OS correctly. I think that's the key
