Question of MacKeeper

I went on a Facebook link a shared friend because he had seemed to be an entertaining article. (Lesson learned, do not click on links more. Fact sense to get rid of Facebook anyway). in any case, said link popped up a MacKeeper pop up. I knew immediately to not click on the ok button, and there is no icons for 'x' by the window, I was in or go to another tab. Then I quickly hit cmd + Q to exit out of Safari. I finished the download of Little Snitch for now to keep an eye on my network traffic to the outside. Fortunately nothing has appeared increasingly from what appeared to be process Safari, "garguillo", which I learned is a 'demon' for Game Center (or whatever they call it now), other methods of Apple (if I didn't know what it was, I did research) and Adobe Creative Suite (I have Photoshop and Lightroom attached to).

My question is, (since I'm still kinda a noob when it comes to OSX) do I need to check in the measure from the bottom of the process, my file applications, etc just to be safe? As much as I know there is nothing that can automatically open up OSX without my permission (or even download itself besides) and cause damage to my computer.

Unfortunately this popup has occurred on my Mac Pro, that is why I am so concerned. I don't want anything to take for it since I just got for my adventures in photography and video editing.

should I record applications, etc just check for what concerns the background process, to be sure?

# Scams on the Web like that one are very common, especially on Facebook. I suggest you get rid of "Little Snitch", because it does nothing real.

I would highly recommend against installing MacKeeper. It is much better to cause problems then he resolve them.

Pop - up that claim that you have problems on your Mac is scams. You don't want to call them or allow them to have access to your Mac.

  • Is "com.historiograph.plist" something that people know? It was created at the same, I accidentally downloaded MacKeeper

Average of horrible judgment, I downloaded something that turned out to be just another way for MacKeeper Run Amok.  I turn on my firewall before you download anything either, and I'm glad that I did because weird things happened.  Chrome unexpectedly quit without even reporting it closes unexpectedly.  I also got a message asking to allow connections from the application "historiograph.  After made what I thought was a good uninstall of MacKeeper, I found this 'com.historiograph.plist' in hand > library > LaunchDaemons with the same created as MacKeeper.  In addition, there were two other .plists created at the exact same time com.lymphangiotomyUpd.plist and com.apple.sideb.plist

Is one of this natural look or will I be paranoid?

    Hello That_One_Guy,

Historiograph is not a known demon so I can't tell you if it is harmful. It is not part of any Apple software, so removing it will not cause problems with any Apple software. It is possible, that it is bundled with other software on your Mac that you would like to keep and could cause problems with this. It is also possible that the software that created it will recreate when you remove it. To remove it, I would recommend starting in safe mode (combinations of keys start for Mac - Apple Support) and then removing to make sure that the demon is not running when removed.

If it does not or you have any other questions, feel free to ask me questions.

  • A whole bunch of questions of FileVault

I say 'heap' because I imagine that there are more implicit questions here I have the knowledge to ask directly. These are questions that occur to a user technical and casual. My hope is that, responded well, they will help others better understand these systems and benefit from. If the answers are in the Help Mac or OS X user Guides, they are opaque to my reading.

I need more guidance and specifications about the use of FileVault for a typical house with a single user desktop.

    For example:

    (1) is FileVault the contents of my hard drive unreadable to hackers who could access through malicious software?

    (2) if I am connected to my computer, FileVault protects the content of near people who might have the expertise necessary to break my account via bluetooth or wireless or bluetooth devices?

    (3) FileVault does the content of my unreadable disk as CrashPlan online backup services? Encryption the same from a backup disk with a bootable copy of my hard drive with software such as SuperDuper will work?

    (4) how FileVault does not affect files such as Photos or those created with something like Pages when they are stored in iCloud?

    (5) FileVault has any effect on files and programs on my iMac, phone and iPad?

I ask these questions because I'd like to think that I could store a list of accounts with their passwords on my computer - not to mention other files that I prefer to think as safe - for easy access and editing, but I don't know enough about the security of my computer when it is connected to the internet connected logged in/out, asleep or in use, etc., to move forward. So, I continue to laboriously keep a long list of accounts and their passwords to date on paper. When the instructions and the appropriate parameters are written for software such as FileVault, I need the authors to anticipate these questions of non-technical, occasional users and to provide more details. Thanks for listening.

1 physical access, yes it is protected. Maybe the malware... I don't know how well it would hold against Ransomware.

    2. does not like that... If your wifi is WPA2-AES encrypted with a long password (10 characters or more), you're pretty well off.
Bluetooth/Wifi is not some pipes of insecurity leaking data to the computer, it can be used to transfer files when it is configured correctly, but the range is so short and limited bandwidth is not really a medium easy/fast to hack into a computer. Clear it if you do not use, it goes the same for wifi, you can still use ethernet connected instead.

    3. I don't know, maybe? -Contact Crashplan and see.

    4. I guess they are encrypted locally on the computer.
    5. probably not, works of ecosystem Apple pretty much any type of encryption is running,

To answer your question in its entirety, everything you really need a password manager - 1Password, KeyPass Dashlane, IronKey, etc. do some research and see what is best for you.

  • MacKeeper attached to the update of Flash Player?

I recently downloaded the update for Adobe Flash Player free. When I unzipped the file, I was encouraged to install MacKeeper, a program that I hate! Despite my request is not for her, and even without asking me to install it, I was shocked to see that it has been installed! I searched the internet for instructions on how to uninstall (it wee several!) I did it after a long procedure requiring almost 20 deleted files! I was very careful to follow the instructions, but now I can't find my photo library! Adobe is aware of this intrusion by the jolts which make MacKeeper? I don't know how that could have been attached to download without knowledge of Adobe. Looking forward to hear from someone because I'm not afraid to install the file, I have Adobe and, quite frankly, hesitant to ever upgrade Flash Player again even if that means I never use again.

    I hate MacKeeper!

    Hello

I'm sorry that you have downloaded a malicious Flash Player installation program that has installed the software MacKeeper questionable.  Adobe does NOT bundle MacKeeper with the installer of Flash Player, so this is it not an official Adobe Flash Player installer.  The official site for download Flash Player from get.adobe.com/flashplayer East.  If the installer does not come from this site, or the update does not update the Flash Player early notification, he came not from Adobe.

Regarding: "I don't know how that could have been attached to download without knowledge of Adobe."  In fact, this happens, and Adobe is going after these malicious actors who post malicious Flash Player installers.  Where did you download the update from?  I heard (recently) of MacKeeper cela but did not have a URL to pass on to the relevant Department to treat this.  If you have a URL, please private message it me and I'll pass it on to the team of fraud/privacy tracking on.

    Thank you.

  • Question of cloning for SSD upgrade on 12 Macbook Pro

Previously, I did an upgrade to SSD on my Macbook Air to 2012 according to the instructions of JetDrive transcend. Basically connection via USB 3 and using Mac OS X to clear (and format) disc utilities new SSD, then restore again SSD and then remove the original 128 GB SSD and insert the new 480 GB SSD.  For about a month and so far without problem.

Now I'm trying to 2012 Macbook upgrade my Pro partner (on 10.11.6).  I got a Crucial SSD MX300 to replace his HARD drive.  Crucial comes with (or recommend) Acronis software.  And a lot of the messages of the forum recommend Carbon Copy Clone.

My question is if I can use the same method for the cloning of the HD as my Macbook Air (just restore disk of Mac OS X utilities)?  This time, I'm upgrading HARD drive and I don't know if something is different.  At the same time, if I got lucky the first time, I don't not ruin Macbook Pro my spouse this time.

    Thank you.

Yes, you can use disk utility to clone your MBP wives, but unlike CCC, it will not clone the recovery and Partition.

  • Question about resolution movie downloads

If I buy a movie at a certain resolution (780p for example), but I want more later re - download at a higher or lower resolution (SD or 1080 p), can I do so and how?

Same question perhaps for music. Some of my songs have been bought before the latest Apple codecs.

    Any help is appreciated!

    THX!

Once you have made a purchase on the iTunes store, you will see your purchased items in the menu under accounts bar > bought. You can simply select the item purchased and re-upload.

With regard to the resolution of the film for films that are offered, and you select the resolution, you can download it again and select a different resolution. For movies that are available as separate download to SD, 780, or 1080 points, you would be limited to the original resolution you selected.
