Questions after Vista-> Win7 migration

Hello

I have improved my T400s Vista Win7 32 bit teacher teacher yesterday, and he's NOT going smoothly. I had to start after an error message in the process. In any case, I ended up having to format my disk to preload and installed there. Coming back up, I have pretty much a generic Win7 installation, no traces of Lenovo drivers / software either. I pulled some from the companion disk and installed everything I could through the Thinkvantage Toolbox.

Now, I have the following questions:

1. a device called device Base system in the other category of devices, slot PCI 3 does not install. Driver not available for download. What device is, so that I can download the driver manually?

2 rescue & Recovery is not installed. I found the Rescue and Recovery © 4.3 Sysprepbackup accessory package for Microsoft Windows 7, that's what I need?

3 fingerprint Reader does not turn on when I boot. I have fingerprints registered, but do not receive the option after booting. How can I activate it?

4. the windows Boot Manager appears whenever I start. Can I disable it?

Appreciate any help!

The Base system device seems to be the card reader, I installed it and problem #1 disappeared.

    Help, please!

    Hello Parker_Jones,

    Thank you for using the Microsoft answers Forum.

    There is a possibility that this behavior might be caused by a program not allowing the computer to wake up properly. Take a look at the article below and see if you can troubleshoot using the information contained in the article.

    You can also use the mode without failure as a troubleshooting tool to determine the program that could be the cause of the issue. I've included the first part of the article below so that you will know how enter Mode without fail if you didn't know already. Please see the link to read the full article and complete troubleshooting.

    Step 1: Perform a clean boot

    Note If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We recommend strongly that you do not use System Configuration utility to change startup options on the computer, unless a support engineer Microsoft directs you to do so. This can make the computer unusable.

    a. log in the computer using an account with administrator rights.

    b. click on start to reduce this includes this image

    type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration Utility.Collapse this includes this image

    If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.

    c. under the general tab, click Selective startup, and then clear the Load Startup items check box. (The box use the Boot file is not available.)

    d. on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft services check box and then click on disable all.

    Note Following this step lets services Microsoft continue to run. These services include networking, Plug-and-Play, record of events, error reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you can permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use to restore the system with the existing restore points.

    e. click OK, and then click restart.

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    Norton 360 expires after Vista updated 28/04/11 - now no security, etc., no access to Windows Update or downloader virus checker... or any software under license, for example. MS Office... Suppose that this was caused by one of the shipped Microsoft updates that day but can't really many on laptop except game provided (no need to license) do games.

    I accepted an update from Microsoft for Vista SP1 on my Acer 5920 laptop. After re-boot to complete the update, the Acer is no longer wakes up. What happened and how I can fix itplease?

    Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.

    Restore point:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/using-Windows-Vista-system-restore/

    Do Safe Mode system restore, if it is impossible to do in Normal Mode.

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm

    Read the above for a very good graph shows how backward more than 5 days in the System Restore Points by checking the correct box.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If the system or Mode restore safe work not and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.
    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.
    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:
    ISO Burner:http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
    It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.
    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
    It is NOT a disc of resettlement.
  • After Vista Ultimate Clean install battery Manager will not work Rundll32.exe error at startup
    I did a clean install of Windows XP SP3 Vista Ultimate SP 1. It was a total reload once installation is complete I used the insall system update all the drivers. Now Manager of battery will not work right, when I boot it hangs with an error rundll32.exe. I tried to uninstall and reinstall and allowed me at least open the program a bit, but there is no power management in the Manager. He says that I can create a new, but he does not appear once it is made. I can't counter is displayed in the taskbar and at this point I'm kind of at a loss.
    Any help would be great
    Thank you
    I have actully solved my problem. What I had to do was reboot the machine and after Vista installation was done I did the installation of battery first Manager and just downloaded from the section the T61 drivers (without using the update system) then once the battery Manager installation manual was full (it was then works well) I ran the system update to install the rest of the drivers and utilities Lenovo. If apperentally battery meter do not be installed via updater. My sugestion would be so to reload the machine once more and battery Manager install before running system update this is what worked for me.
  • Several questions after restart explorer.exe
    I have several questions after I ended the process explorer.exe and reopened. "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" only opens the Task Manager (and neither do "Ctrl + Shift + Esc"), the level of the battery is displayed on my taskbar, my wallpaper mysteriously changed, etc.
    What happened in detail was:
    My taskbar was hidden behind a window I had open. For example, if I open the Chrome, Chrome window cover at the bottom of my screen, with the taskbar behind it. The taskbar was NOT to hide and minimize. So, I took the advice to restart my explorer.exe. However this is not going smoothly. I couldn't bring up the task in any Manager. I could not even restart my computer. The only thing I could do was click on the space bar, which makes "click on" my browser Chrome which was open at the time. This allowed me to open a task manager with control of Chrome ONLY. Chrome, I've navigated to C:/.../explorer.exe and double clicked on it. I got my taskbar and the office back, although very distorted. Now, there are still a lot of questions I need to recover from. I think it might be a problem starting some .exe that could somehow have disabled. I would be happy to provide any additional information.
    This is a safe operation restart explorer.exe. Your catalogue of failures suggest that you have some fundamendal problems. I would like to use the system restore to go as far as I could. If that fails to solve the problems, then I'd go for a destructive factory restore.
  • Portege Z930 - a few questions after decommissioning of Win8 for Win7
    Hello
    I recently bought Z930 PT234E with Win8 pre-installed. Due to the policy of the company, I needed this downgrade to Win7 Pro 32-Bit (deleted all partitions and creates a partition must usually be made). I downloaded all the drivers for the OS and installed. And it all started after that;
    1. I'm trying to install TOSHIBA Smart Client Manager but returns with warning "+ before starting the implementation of TOSHIBA Smart Client Manager Client, copy an action for TOSHIBA Smart Client Manager Server header file to the installation folder. +"and I only have the file and the installation will fail. * Where can I get this file for a successful installation? *
    2. you have + hwsetup + software preinstalled on Win8 but I couldn't find this sw / driver, even for Win8 to download Toshiba pages * where can I get this sw because it gives the possibility to configure the BIOS without waiting for start? *
    3. I see that the battery is + opportunity + while I left my camera on hibernation. I have to unplug it from the power supply after that 100% charged and Hibernate, it. But after a few hours, when I turn it on, I see that it is 91%! I susbect it's because of ' + sleep and fresh + "is enabled from the BIOS, but I need to wait for the next boot. * Any comment? *
    4-if I buy Toshiba online recovery support, this will help me to install Win8 as first boot and create the deleted partitions as in "+ * factory State * +". In other wprds, this recovery media will set my z930 to the State from the factory with the OS and partitions. + OK, I guess this media is a DVD and I know that I need to create a USB bootable for this media... No worries :) +.
    Really thanks for reading and the comments / answers :)
    This file is not known to me and usually something like that should not appear if install you the software in the correct order.
    Before you start to install the Toshiba software you need to install the Toshiba value added for Windows 7 package!
    Only if this PPV was installed and restarted laptop, you can follow with other tools.
    > 2 - you have hwsetup software preinstalled on Win8, but I couldn't find this sw / even Win8 to the download pages where Toshiba can get this sw fly because it gives the possibility to configure the BIOS without waiting for the start?
    Driver package system that is available to win 8 is NOT available for Win 7.
    Instead of system driver you have installed to VAP!
    > 3 - I see that the battery is used while I left my camera on Hibernate. I have to unplug it from the power supply after that 100% charged and Hibernate, it.     Any comments? Option Charge & sleep, but also other options like the Wake Up LAN or keyboard may discharge the battery. So in case you n t want that, disable it in the BIOS
    > 4 - if I buy Toshiba online recovery support, this will help me to install Win8 as first boot and create the partitions deleted as in "factory condition".   • A few questions after changing from Vista to Win XP on Satellite A135-S4427
    I bought a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427 days. It comes with Vista, but some applications are not ready yet for this OS. So, I decided to remove it, then I did a new install of Win XP SP2.
    Here come the problems...
    (1) I could not find the driver for the system management Bus controller. There is an explicitly named SMBus available on the support site, but it was not accepted by the system.
    (2) after 2-3 hours of operation, when I use the mouse or the touchpad to open a file, folder, click a button, the system to freeze for a minute, then it works very well for a few minutes, then freezes, etc. Restarting the computer does not solve the problem.
    I can't explain this bad behavior :( I have not checked the security no virus was detected.
    Please, any idea to make my laptop works properly?
    Hello
    Satellite A135-S4427 seems to be a mobile US and therefore, you should check the site Web of Toshiba us for all the XP drivers.
    1.) system Management Bus Controller-> to my knowledge, you need to install the Intel chipset utility to fix this problem.
    (2.) for the most part these strange disruptions appears because of the CPU busy.
    You should check the processes running in the background of the operating system and try to defragment the HARD drive.
  • Vista system restore question after malware attack
    Hello.  My wife's computer has been attacked by malware.  It all hid on the desktop and the start menu as well as all his personal files, has launched a large number of pop-up windows - up with fake error messages and then prompted to pay an unknown technical support source.  I used the Vista system restore to restore the system to a few days before the attack.  According to the instructions of Windows help, the system restore should not affect his personal files.  I was hoping that his files would be present again after the restore, but they are still missing.  The malware seems to have disappeared now.  Any suggestions on where its files can be located or what measures you need a professional to get back them?
    Hello
    You may also still have some malware installed.
    Read the information on the link provided (Section 19 and 21) on the way to "unmask" data and Start Menu as a few skins of Malware.
    While you're there, it would be a good idea to follow in their footsteps of malware removal to ensure that your system is clean.
    This is a very good general Malware cleaning page there.
