R320 substituting PERC S110 for a PERC H710 - without loss of data

I think of his replacement (added?) a H710 PERC our R320.  The vehicle currently has a S110 (software raid controller?).

Play safe I'll have a complete bare metal backup.

Is it possible to add a PERC H710 with my original two disks in RAID 1 and do not go through a complete reinstallation or backup recovery?

It would make life so less irritating...

Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,

Chris H.

Hi cmhippy, yes you certainly would need back up you data, it is not possible to transfer RAID configurations of a software to a hardware RAID controller RAID controller.

Yes. You should not lose any data, but always have a backup. In this case, you have your internal drive as a backup.

    Hi altagumasi,

The reset button of the pinhole on the rear panel of the unit resets user and network settings. It will not delete your data. Press on the reset button for 15 seconds and the device should restart. After the reboot, you will go through the initial setup process.

  • How a recovery of space on a LaCie external drive for an iMac?  This 1 TB drive says now "integral" and I need to reclaim space without loss of data.

I have an IMac 3 - year, which was saved with a 1 to LaCie external drive, using Intego Backup Assistant.  Obviously I'm not successfully back up because I wasn't expecting this drive must be complete.  That said, how to fix the problem. ? I need to see the data that is on the disk and to eliminate duplication of work, and then I'll need to reform the backup process so that I have not fill up the drive.  I am not particularly adept at information technology, so more detail that can be provided, the better it is!

What a pity that you have not started using Apple built-in Time Machine from the beginning. It deletes older backups as needed.

That being said, the only way is to do it again. I'd get a new drive and copy what you absolutely need and wipe.

  • Cable for T320 8x3.5 to Perc H710

I have a T320 with backplane replaceable 8x3.5 SAS drives hot. I ordered a Perc H710 (p/n 342-4203) to replace the H310. The SAS cable has the wrong connectors for the H710.

I chatted with Dell this morning and they told me that I needed the manufacturer Dell cy7n1. I ordered this. However, after ordering, I searched online and the images seem to show a cable with only one connector at each end.

What is the correct cable I need?

    Thank you.

    Hello

CY7N1 is a cable to connect to a backplane 4HDD. Background cable basket of 8HDD is DJXF7.

  • PERC H710 options

Just got a PowerEdge T320 with controller Perc H710. There are a few configuration options undocumented in the help manual, or online. Cannot find anything on the web as well. It is "set the speed of the link to G3" and "Disk Cache". What are doing? And how to configure them, taking into account that the server will run Windows server 2008 R2?

    Simon

Probably best to leave 'Disk Cache' disabled... the controller uses a battery backup cache, so if the system loses power, the unwritten data is kept in the cache.  Disk cache HARD disc has NO protection, so if the power is lost on the server, data not written to the disk cache will be lost, causing corruption.  This should be used if you have taken extraordinary measures to ensure that the system never loses power (or the integrity of the data is not critical).

I can't that guess the 'Set Link Speed to G3' might actually be 3G, which means she restricted protocols of flow to 3 Gbps (SATA II/SAS I) instead of the 6 GB/s (SATA III/SAS II) that he is capable of.  If you use the appropriate drives (SAS or enterprise SATA II/III), there should not be any reason to enable this, because it's probably a compatibility setting for SATA I / II of readers whose speed cannot be used correctly with the controller, but if you use decent readers, that shouldn't be a problem.

  • PERC H710 downloads?

Page drivers and downloads for my T320 doesn't seem to understand anything for the Perc H710 RAID controller I.  I searched Dell support site and did not find a relevant page.

Where can I find updated firmware to date and any other software that I might want to use to keep the controller to update?

    Thank you

    Andrew

They are under SAS RAID.  Here is the firmware:

    http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/product/PowerEdge-T320?driverId=DK9F9&osCode=WS8R2&FILEID=3188832303&LanguageCode=en&CategoryID=SF

    What OS?

Keep the OMSA (OpenManage Server Administrator) to update will inform you when the firmware/drivers are obsolete:

    http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/product/PowerEdge-T320?driverId=CWHRG&osCode=WS8R2&FILEID=3267736217&LanguageCode=en&CategoryID=SM

(Download and run to extract the files, and then run C:\Openmanage\windows\setup.exe, add yourservernameoripaddress:1311 to the Intranet Zone of IE).

  • Divide a virtual disk in two virtual disks PERC H710

    Hello guys,.

-We have a server PowerEdge R720 with a PERC H710 Mini storage controller which has 8 drives 1 TB each of them.

-We have created a virtual disc, which includes 8 physical disks configured in Raid 5.

-We have installed Windows 2008 Server R2 and we got 4469 GB no allocated space that we cannot use due to the limitation of the disks of the Basic.

What we really want to do is reclaim the unallocated space of the existing virtual drive and put it in a new one, so that we keep 3 disks for the virtual disk 0 and we use the 5 others for the new virtual disk 1.

-Is that possible without destroying the data we have?

    -Help please!

Thanks in advance and sorry for the bad English :(

Unfortunately, there is no way to do it without restarting.

    Option 1

What you have described, you could divide drives upward into distinct from VD, leaving a 2 TB or smaller for the operating system.  It will cost you a value of an extra disk to disk space (VD0 RAID 5 = 2 TB, VD1 RAID 5 = 4 TB).

    Option 2

You can create "slices" on the disks - you still all 8 disks in a disk group, but you would cut a smaller VD for the OS, and then the rest of the disc space can be a VD for data (each VD will appear as a "separate" disk in Windows, so the second VFD can be converted to GPT and be as big as you want While the first VFD remains an MBR disk to boot into the operating system in BIOS mode.  This will give you return a value from an extra disk to disk space over Option 1 (VD0 RAID 5 = 100 GB, RAID 5 = 6.9 to VD1).

    Option 3

You can switch mode UEFI, create a VD with all 8 disks (as you did), convert the GPT disk, then install.  UEFI is necessary at the start of the GPT disks and GPT is required for disks larger than 2 TB.  It would also keep 7 TB of usable disk space.

You can also consider a RAID 6, if you can accept the value of another drive 1 TB of disk space.  Since a reconstruction of the drive may take 1 to 2 days or more, a RAID 6 would provide better tolerance to failures and protection during the vulnerable period that the disc is out of line or reconstruction.

    Thank you

It is normal so he can make a full discharge of the battery as part of his learning cycle every 90 days. Make sure that this isn't that. If this isn't the case, the reason, give it 24 hours. If it is fully charged, update the system (including RAID firmware, driver first) firmware. If not fully charged yet or it reproduces quickly, then replace the battery - power down to replace.

  • PERC 710 add physical disks for RAID 5 virtual disk and keep data

I think to set up a physical disk 4 RAID 5 array on my new PowerEdge T320.  That should give me enough space to last long.  I have two empty slots of HD.  If I need more space, later, I'll be able to add one or two additional physical disks without losing the data already on the virtual disk?  If so, how?  I don't see a way to do this in the manual of Perc 710.

    Thank you

    Andrew

Yes, it is "doable" later.  This can be done in the PERC BIOS, but it can be done in OMSA (OpenManage Server Administrator) within the OS.

One thing to keep in mind is the limit of 2 TB "floppy" Windows on BIOS systems compatible.  If you plan to 4x4TB disks in a RAID 10, that TB ~ 8 'disc' will be converted to the GPT and BIOS UEFI boot mode value.

  • Loss of data for the network flow

I have an application where I need a chassis CRIO 9068 stream to a PC, and I'm running into some problems with data loss.

The CRIO is sampling data, put in a picture 2D tanks (the size depends on the number of channels and the sampling frequency) and it streaming on the PC.  Data loss is not consistent, sometimes no data will be lost. Also the size of the array be listened to believe makes no difference, sometimes I won't lose data 24 channels 25 kech. / s, and sometimes I'll lose data 1-channel 10KS/s.

The VI (host PC) runs in a non-timed while loop, it runs generally to about 50 Hz, sometimes hiccups system will make it slower for a loop or both.  Wirte CRIO loop runs at 20 Hz.  I think that the loss of data occurs when the PC has an if its hiccups, I know well that the size of the buffer to the stream network could absorb these hiccups.  If I make the size of the buffer is bigger, I seem to have a memory leak and the CRIO crashes after a few minutes.  I have also the CRIO record data directly without streaming, and no data is lost here, so I know its disappear somewhere in the stream.

I also have a separate Standard TCP connection between for command and control, do not know if this could cause an interfereing with the network flow problem.

I have attached photos of the screws where the endpoints are creadted and where data is written and read.

    I'm using Labview/RT 2013

    Thank you

Suggestion of the AGJ is a good thing.  I had trouble keeping your code - there were so many things with wires everywhere...

I have an application that runs on a PXI-8106 controller streaming 24 channels of data collected at 1 KHz (or 24K s/s).  He gets streaming via network to the host computer and from there flows streaming to disk.  At the same time, I'm streaming "Events" (transitions State, DIO line changes, etc.) to another stream from network to another data file.  A key step is that the data is off the network stream, they are put in a queue for sending the disk.  There are several parallel running loops, and I never lose a sample (I can tell because one of my channels is a "clock", the index of the loop timed running on the PXI system that produces the data that is sent to the host through the network stream - I can inspect this channel and see that each point is different from the previous one by 1).

Do you use queues to stamp your data in and out of the network stream?

  • Bug report - activate the quick start causes filesystem corruption and loss of data for Windows 8 NTFS when it is used by Windows 8 and Windows 2008R2SP1

My hard disk configuration is as follows:

    Disc 1: 0.5 terabytes
    Disc 1 - Partition 1 Windows 2008R2SP1
    Disc 1 - Data Partition 2
    Disc 2: 1 terabytes
    Disc 2 - Partition 1 Windows 8
    Disc 2 - Data Partition 2
After you install Windows 8 RTM and used for about half a day, I started in Windows 2008R2SP1. From the start in Windows 2008R2SP1, I had "one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency", and it proceeded to chkdsk both the 2008R2SP1 and Windows drives data. No problems were detected
I don't think a lot of it... and goes to copy several files from disc 1 - 2 Partition on drive 2 data - data Partition 2
Then, I started Windows 8 RTM one 2 weeks later and told me that 'one of your drives should be checked for consistency", and it proceeded to the chkdsk disk 2 - data partition 2 and found a small number of questions. But after that, all files, I had copied in 2 Disk - Partition 2 data were GONE!
So I decided to reboot and start Windows 2008R2SP1... and I got the "one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency" again this time what we found thousands of questions! He supposedly fixed, but my files (more than 200Gbytes) still LEFT!
I believe that it is this same problem: the bug - report serious corruption of system files and loss of data caused other NTFS de Windows 8 CP readers but I think it was not fixed on CP, and it is now on GTR!

One more thing why this site (http://answers.microsoft.com) don't have any option to ask questions about Windows 8 RTM? I had to choose' other/unknown '

    Update:

Apparently if you use the option "Turn on the quick start (recommended)" in your Power Options, when you turn off your machine, it's not really turn and that's why he won't let NTFS in a consistent state, and so, if the disc is read by another Windows, it will try to 'fix' cause corruption...

This could mean, even a double start between 2 windows 8 facilities system would auto destroy...
