• Fixed R40e and R50e optical drive?

  Hi all

  I plan to buy a used Thinkpad, or a R40e a R50e. The R40e comes with a drive to DVD - ROM and the R50e with a CD-ROM drive. I'm leaning toward the R50e, because it is better in all aspects, except that it cannot read the DVD. I thought that I could replace the CD-ROM drive later with a drive combo or something, but then I looked around, a little on the web and got a little confused.

  I read that "some options are not compatible with ThinkPad R50e systems because the Ultrabay drive is fixed." I also read the same thing about the R40e, but not on the Lenovo Web site. At the same time, I saw that Lenovo had some videos on how to remove and install the optical drives in the R40e and the R50e.

  Then it is replaceable or not? A I misunderstood something? The Ultrabay drive is not the same as the CD/DVD drive?

  If someone could explain that to me, I would be grateful.

  Yes, it's just a matter of withdrawal of the first keyboard to replace the optical drive in models of 'e' as R40e,ee/R51 R50. Here are some links for you and others who can be read:

• Save type of R50E 1834-S5g 05/09 software unavailable on laptop

  Hi everyone, the backup software that should be put on the R50e is missing/deleted how can I get a replacement? can anyone help relating to this issue. I have a Windows 7 disc that I can put on, but I'm afraid I'll have questions re drivers if I do. Any help would be appreciated gratefully. Thank you, Glenn

  You can install 7, but with the graphics card on the R50 the aero does not work. I tried 7 on my R51 it works but not as it should I also tried vista, it works well on the R51, you can go with vista as my R51 it worked for nearly a year with no problems. whatever version (7 or vista) you go with the thinkvantage software will work

• Q. R50e 1834-S5g 05/09 HD upgrade Type?

  Hi everyone this is my first post here. I own the thinkpad as displayed in the subject line. I would like to know if there is a method to upgrade the HARD drive to one with a greater capacity of 160 GB. I'm not very technical re computers so if there is a simple and direct method that would be great.

  I hope someone out there can help, because it's a great laptop that just need more storage space.

  You need a PATA SSD, and they are quite expensive.

  That being said, an SSD makes sense if you meet W7 from XP has a lot of questions when combined with SSD in my experience. If it was my R50e, I would stick with ordering conventional rotation and XP.

  Hello. Looking to upgrade the memory on my daughter R50e. It is currently configured with 512 M running Windows XP. Looking at the price, I can get 2 x 1 G DDR2 SO-DIMM for the price of 1 G DDR SO-DIMM. Can someone tell me if the R50e will support DDR2 and if so, what spec'?   Your R50e only supports ram SODIMM DDR PC-2700/PC-3200

• Wireless R50E

  This may seem a bit noob but I'm new to computer laptop r50e (got free, love!)

  I read that r50e had wireless lan, but I can't find one in my book, he got the fn + computer button that starts the wifi, it also got bios information to not turn the network wireless but still no ifno in Device Manager no icon of wifi in the taskbar.

  Do all got r50e default wifi or just slected models?

  I've got celeron 1.3 ghz M, 512 MB, 30 GB HARD drive.

  Your ThinkPad isn't ready wireless.

• R40 to r50e harddrive swap, will not identify wireless or video

  My r40 with xp pro suffered a hardware failure of catastrofic, but my hard drive was intact. I need all the info on it and had not saved. a friend had a r50e has not been used and so I pasted the hard drive of the r40 at and kicked upward. everything works FINE except my r40 had no wireless. It has always had, but now he doesn't know it's possible. In addition, my video controllers also do not work. I think the video controllers are a driver problem. any ideas? This could be difficult.

  Have been looking for a DVD RW for an IBM Thinkpad R50e drive, type 1834. This has proved to be not easy.

  Why, when I specify the model and the type I have, so a lot of readers not supported those listed and not supported? I'm not interested in optical drives that does not fit. I would like to know who does.

  one of them will work 92 p 6575 / 13n6827 / 39t 2723 / 39t 2861 it says not supported because it came with the cd-rw/dvd not dvd - rw

• R50E black pixels are now green

  Hello!
  After a few nights of rendering in Photoview360 and later to connect to a projector for a few hours my R50e screen started showing all blacks as green, red, yellow. It is not dependent on how move the laptop.
  When I changed the display mode in the menu fn + F7 to leave the projector, the projected image has blurred and was so until I disconnected the cable. Screen was ok. After traveling in my backpack for an hour and a reboot it had green pixels.

  It is Green Start - startup is all green.
  Does not show the PrintScreen
  reinstalled the display drivers

  no change.
  Is there something to do?

  Well, after 2 months of light (green) use the problem disappeared.

  Still don't know why.

• R50E - SDRAM

  Can someone tell me if to memory SDRAM DDR 333 MHz PC2700 works for R50e.   The specification on the Web site instructs 266 MHz PC2700.  But I can't get either to 266 MHz PC2100 or PC2700 333 MHz in PC hardware stores.  They have not PC2700 to 266 MHz.

  The site says you can use PC2700 333 MHz memory, but it will only work at 266 MHz, which is the speed of your system. PC2100 works perfectly in your system.

  You need to replace the DVD player with hard drive Bay series adapter (if you have a SATA drive, the new drives are SATA)

  Here are the codes for this product:

  P / N:26R9247

  This adapter works on T41 machine. Make sure you check if the card works on R50 I am not sure about this.

• How to check defective R50e caused by the Panel or the cable of the Panel?

  It's been long that I couldn't see my windows on the screen. I have to hook it up to an external monitor to display the content in my windows. Everything works well except the Panel screen does not display anything, but only dull black screen. It is more under warranty and I do not extend the warranty at all because it is old enough. In addition, I already have more recent laptop Y410. I just want to know if I can fix it by myself, rather than putting this side into dust lol

• R50E does not start after upgrading memory

  I tried to upgrade this laptop from the factory of 512 MB to 1.5 GB. I got a Kingston 1 GB DDR - 333 SO-DIMM, but after I installed it, the laptop does not turn. Only the power led is lit.

  I don't know why this happened, because all tests indicate that it should work.

  1. the new stick is ok. I tested it in another laptop and it worked. I also cleaned the contacts with isopropyl alcohol.

  2. the memory locations are ok. The old memory works in each slot.

  3. I tried to install the new one stick in a slot and it did not work.

  4. This update is officially supported by record of IBM and BIOS is up to date (v2.1, December 2006).

  Unless I'm missing something there is a confusing question. Unfortunately, I don't have an another 1 GB DIMM to test with.
