RAID 5 configuration on t410

the RAID 5 on t410 it shows only raid 1, raid 0 and raid 10 option

Assuming you are using a controller H200 - he does not not RAID 5, only the RAID 0 and 1 (including 10). You will need a PERC 6 / i or H700 for RAID 5, I recommend against the use of RAID 5.

    Hi cbcenterplus,

RAID 1 means that you essentially two drives separated with identical information. In order to break the RAID is simple. Start on the Intel RAID Option Rom utility (ctrl + I), replace two disks drives non-members, and then restart your computer.  The 2nd disc will receive a new drive letter, and you can get in shape by using the disk management and have extra space.

  • RAID 0 configuration problem.

    Hi all

Have a Dell XPS 420 with 1 TB (x 2 500 MB) in a RAID 0 configuration. The computer is only 3 months old and one of the HD is a failure. Called Dell and it is replaced. The questions are:

    1. An is RAID setup more stress on the system?
    2. I do not use RAID when reconfiguring it with the new HD, which should allow me to better save capabilities? (only if the backup drive doesn't fail).

  • RAID 10 configuration help

I built my new computer and decided to go with a RAID 10 configuration. After windows installation and reboot I got a critical RAID warning during startup. I have identified the drive has failed and returned. I installed the replacement drive and I still get the same error. Is there something special that I'm supposed to do when I replace one of the disks?

Space is never the issue and speed is a raid10 alone is not enough for editing. Now, you may need to start over again, refcreating the table, reformatting and reinstalling. Don't forget to disable before you re-create the matrix.

I called once Raid10 the format of table for the paranoid in a hurry. It seems to be the opposite, since you have to start over.

  • ATT: Badly - need help with putting in place a RAID 0 configuration.

    Hi, harm,

I remember reading on our forum here that RAID 0 is the way to go, if you want to first be better optimized.

I've always heard that the 3 disks are the best-

-Disc 1 - OS and Premiere Pro

data files - disk 2 - Premiere Pro reads and writes

    disc scratch - disk 3.

OK, it's pretty easy to understand, but now add RAID 0 and what? This means a 4th lead?

RAID 0, as far as I understand it, is that a mirror of your drive C: (disc 1 in this case) would therefore be that average 4 phyical different readers

    in the computer?

Other than that, my real question is this - how to create the RAID 0 after that I installed a new hard drive to do this?  To clarify,

I have my disc 1, which contains the OS and the PP.  I guess this is the drive on which we would like to duplicate - in the way of creation

  • RAID 1 configuration on a 8700

I just got a new 8700 Dell with Windows 7 and a 2 TB Seagate drive.  I'm trying to install and configure an identical Seagate drive for RAID 1.  I read a similar post for the 8500 which was helpful, but I always use a problem.  When I go into the application of the technology Intel Rapid Storage Technology, I can see both the original drive and the new drive, but I don't see any possibility to create a new volume, such as described in the Intel Technology User Guide fast storage, point 8.2.  Does anyone know why it would not be showing upward?  RAID is turned on in the BIOS, and the Intel Rapid Storage Technology app came pre-loaded from Dell.  Looks like it was ready to RAID.  A little additional info.  When I installed the disk 2, I plugged on the SATA 1 connector on the motherboard.  1 player has been connected to the SATA 0, and I moved the connector 2 SATA DVD.  I don't know if the issue of SATA connectors and I found no doc about that.

I got this job myself.  The only thing I had to do was to disable acceleration (caching on the SSD).  After I did, I could set up the pair of hard drives 2 TB in RAID 1.  After the initialization of the RAID 1 (a few hours), I was able to reactivate the acceleration / caching on the SSD drive.  I now RAID protection 1 (6 GB/s on two disks) and additional speed of SSD caching!  The system starts in 12 seconds approximately.

  • Desktop Dell XPS 8500 - complete Instructions for the necessary Raid 1 configuration

Hi, soon I will get this system and it consists of the 256 GB ssd for the OS, etc and has 2 GB SATA for data. The ssd has his own connection to the Board of Directors and that leaves "2no" 6 GB/s & 2No / 3 GB/s sata ports on the card. The OS is windows 7 ult, but I don't want to use software raid.

I bought a 2nd disc identical sata hard and want to configure hardware raid 1 for data. I am assuming they will be connected to the 6 Gbps ports because there will be 2 optical drives that I hear are connected to ports / 3 GB/s

Can anyone provide a step by step instructions regarding the implementation of raid 1 as soon as I get the computer. It will be used until I have set up the raid. If you can try to fool it would be great (for example I have to disconnect the ssd before setting up the raid, the new sata drive has to be formatted first, etc?)

I'm sure support Dell can instruct me on how to do it, but I am usually able to do minor hardware upgrades and have done things as OS reinstalls before so I don't know with a clear set of instructions, it should not be too difficult!

Thanks for any help you can give

There are two processes that allows to set up a RAID.  The technology Intel Rapid Storage Technology console and the Intel Option ROM RAID configuration utility.  Intel recommends using the console of RST on a system that already has Windows installed and working, but I do not know why the RAID configuration utility could not be used as long as the system drive must not be included in the RAID.

If the RAID configuration utility is used, you end up with an empty RAID volume that must be partitioned and formatted as any hard drive, you add to the computer.  This is done by using the disk management application.  If the RST console is used to migrate RAID from a drive with data on it, the RAID created will have the same structure that we find on the disc for the migration, so partitioning and formatting would be necessary.

To use the console of the RST, consider this: Intel Rapid Storage Technology User Guide.  Article 8 contains information specific to your goal.  The document also covers the RAID configuration utility, however, so it would be a good idea to consult the entire guide.  The computer must have the RAID mode is enabled before attempting to set up a RAID.  The guide gives a 'how', but remember the screens shown are for motherboards from Intel which differ slightly from the version of Dell.  The guide also provides information about using the RAID configuration utility.  The biggest difference between the use of the console of the RST and the RAID configuration utility, the Setup utility doesn't allows you to move from an existing drive.

  • Raid 5 configuration on a server ESX 4.0

    Hello

I have a server with 4 500 GB hard drives and I configured these hards like Raid 5 3 in raid motherboard controller. I installed ESX server 4.0 in non-raid disk hard but in vsphere client, I see these three separate hards and I guess that this esx server is not set up these hards as Raid 5

How can I set Raid 5 in esx server.

My motherboard is Super Micro X7DVL-3

The RAID, you can set up through your motherboard is known as 'false' RAID.

This is not supported in ESX. ESX only supports the RAID hardware controllers real (as indicated in the HCL)

Even if this could work in your case, you would probably a real bad performance. The reasons are that a RAID5 with 3 drives is one of the slower RAID configurations that can be configured and your RAID controller does not write cache.

  • ESX 3.5 will recognize additional HDs on PowerEdge 2900 (is not a member of a RAID 1 configuration)?

    Hello gurus/VM-masters

I am still a novice in the VM world: 3

    The installation program:

Dell PowerEdge 2900 running VMware ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 build-153875

Installation of two hard disks in RAID 1

Only one store of data in RAID1

    The question:

I have an extra hard drive that I want to add. http://Cheetah 15K.6, SAS (Serial Attached SCSI)

I was wondering if there where it is possible to add additional hard drive and create a new data store to add new virtual machines on it?

ESX will recognize it as additional storage?

Is it bad/mess with existing RAID1 configuration?

Or is it simple, plug-in HD

    Thank you!

RAID 0 - a definition of tolerance drive no fault, in this case a single PIN.

Many raid controllers able technical force you to set the drive as a feature available on the controller, before the operating system can see it, in this case a drive would give a raid 0 LUN set on the controller.

Your controller will accept it is submitted or you need to take the material down to set it. Sometimes, this feature is available via an interface ILOM (Integrated Light Out Manager) of the server allowing the definition without an outtage.

  • Suggested for the RAID level configuration

    Hallo,

I have a server 4core, 16 GB of RAM and 4 SAS 140 GB discks whith fiber channel EMC SAN. What is RAID level suggested for reduncancy and performance?

RAID 1 + (a single disc advanced to other uses)

RAID 10 (is really necessary for an ESX configuration?)

    others

RAID 5 (suggested for VMFS, but not for a simple configuration, ESX)

RAID 6 (not suggested because that too slow)

    Thank you

As for local storage (as opposed to the EMC SAN) I'd go with RAID 1 + 0 for optimal performance. If you have an EMC SAN you probably store most of your VMs on the San. Your local storage space will be for your ESX installation and perhaps a data store for testing. Thus, you do not want to go with a RAID that offered high performance and redundancy, even if she does a high-cost disk, because the size is not you primarily on local storage.

As for your EMC (Clariion AX regardless), you will want to cut LUN based on the needs of performance of your virtual machines.

LUN RAID 5 for your regular VMS

LUN RAID 1 + 0 for SQL (Oracle or Microsoft SQL SERVER) or machines virtual Exchange

Just my two cents on the views of storage vary, and the right answer for you depends on your environment.

  • two pairs of Raid 0 configuration

I get a parts list for a system using the Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD5-B3motherboard and five WD 1 TB SATA 6 Gbps black disks. A reader will be my main OS drive. The other 4 will be configured in two pairs of raid0. A pair will be used for my support of source and the other pair will be used for export. (OS) disc will go on one of the two ports 6 Gbps (SATA3_0). Four others go on four ports of 3 Gbps (SATA2_2, 3, 4, 5). I can configure two volumes Raid 0 on the controller chipset Intel? I'm not find clear documentation on how to proceed. The other option would be to buy the UD7 motherboard and put one of the pairs two raid 0 on the Marvell chip, but I think it would be less desirable.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Can I configure two volumes Raid 0 on the controller chipset Intel?

Don't see how that would be a problem. My experience is with the UD7 Commission, but they are quite similar.

I'm not find clear documentation on how to proceed.

In short (and this is not a guide) place the RAID controller in the BIOS, reboot, pull up the RAID configuration menu and follow the instructions in the manual. 83 to 85 pages describe the process very well.

Don't worry all the stuff 'do this or that before installing Windows' unless you plan a RAID operating system drive.

  • Replacing a hard drive in a R4 Aurora with a RAID 10 configuration

I'd love to have someone check what I think I know:

one of my four 1 TB Seagate HD is a failure and I want to replace it (a WD 1 TB comes today).  From what I've been able to gather from Internet research, it seems that it is as simple as a hot swap (machine on, unplug/remove the old drive, install the new drive, RAID rebuilds itself).

Could someone with a lot more knowledge than me check that, especially if there is a 'trick' or 'don't do that' involved.

    Thank you!

It's really not something too difficult to do. As you said yourself - this is just a plug-and-play scenario.
Hard drives, because they are in RAID 1 + 0 it will rebuild and reproduce what is the main parameter.
But if you want here is a video on how to take out the hard drive and replace it.

  • How can I configure raid 1?

I have a HP m9340f, and the 750 GB seagate drive that accompanies it is eventually died. Of course, I don't have any image or to clone, so now I have to re - install all my nonsense.

In diagnosing the drive, I discovered that the bios has raid capability. In fact, that's what the reader has been set on (although there was still only 1 disc). I've never used raid, so my question is, if I want to configure raid 1, so that the next time a drive dies, I have a built-in backup, what exactly do I do? I know that I need to install 2 hard drives, but as soon as I did this, raid configure automatically? I don't see any special properties in the screens of the bios for raid, except for access to the drive (ide/raid/AHCI). Would this be a good idea to use seagate disks, or cares not the bios?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Hello bassman952, maybe I can offer a glimpse of the Raid arrays. Many Members here know this already, but for those who do not, it seems that your system is capable of Raid. It has the Intel G33 chipset, where specifications for this chipset can be found here. This chipset includes the Raid feature for most Raid array configurations. However, HP changed the BIOS to only supported Bay Raid0 and Raid1. A Raid0 array consist usually of 2 hard drives and recommend that be of the same manufacturer, model, capacity, speed and cache. It is possible to use different brands and other specifications of the hard drive, but it is strongly discouraged. A Raid1 array also usually consist of 2 hard drives with the same configuration as described above. All Raid arrays must be installed before all the data is stored on the table.  To configure a matrix Raid on the chipset Intel, immediately after the HP Logo screen disappears, press ctrl and the I touch both and the Intel Matrix Raid Array utility will appear. You can then configure matrix Raid type and disk to be included in this table, save the configuration and exit. The table written Raid0 and bed for two drives at the same time, but with different data. This is referred to as a matrix of blocks. The Raid1 array is referred to as a network of mirrors. If one of the disks in Raid0 array were to fail, all data on both drives would be lost. The Raid1 array reads and writes the same data on two drives in the Raid array at the same time. If one of the disks were to fail, a new hard drive can be installed to replace the failed drive and the system booted and the Raid1 array will be rebuilt, which means that the data from the hard drive of existing work will be copied to the new hard disk. Depending on the capacity of the hard disk and the speed of the system, it can take a good amount of time to accomplish. After that the Raid1 array is rebuilt, the system should boot normally. Table of Raid0 is mainly used for performance while the Raid1 array is used mainly as a redundant to the first hard drive backup. If a Raid array is broken, which means that the configuration of the table is changed, all data on the hard disks will be lost, even in the Raid1 array. Can I have left some items, since I'm trying to remember this memory, but this is essentially how HP uses Raid arrays in their use of home systems. Others use Raid arrays that are different, such as Raid5 and Raid10, Raid0 + 1 and some other Raid configurations, but since we are talking about the Raid arrays on HP systems, other table Raid differences would be not useful for the discussion here.
