RAID 5 problem with R410 Perc 6 / i controller

I have a Setup RAID 5 on a Dell PowerEdge R410 (4-300 GB Hard Drives).  I'm moving hard disk of 300 GB to 600 GB hard drives, so I can increase the available storage.  I replaced the drive in the Groove #2 with a 600 GB drive first, because he was already in a failed State.  After the reconstruction, I waited til the next day for the replacement of the other drives 600 GB drives.  When I replaced the drive at location 0 #, the drive into the #2 Groove entered the predicted state failure during rebuild.  So, after the reconstruction, I replaced the drive in the #2 Groove a 2nd time with another 600 GB hard drive.  During this rebuild, the reader Slot #0 also entered a predicted failure State.  So I let the server run for a few days.  And now the two Slot #0 and #2 (the ones with the new 600GO drives) are in a State of predicted failure.  I can't believe that I would have 3 bad drives in a row.  I use all Dell certified readers.  Can advise you, what do I do then?  Update the firmware? Going back to the old drive?  It is a critical production server, so I need to minimize all the time as much as possible.

Thanks in advance,

Byron

Hello

A predictive failure is reported on a drive when there is excessive bad blocks on the disk. Since you have rebuilt the drive in the existing table, most likely other readers had bad blocks that were copied to the new drive. What operating system do you use? There is not a way to get readers off predictive failure, once they are reported. There is potentially a much larger problem with the table. I recommend you make a backup of all data files.

    Hello

I post here because I searched many hours for a stupid problem.

I have a Cisco UCS C22 M3 with soft RAID LSI MagicRAID.
I have two hard disk of 1 TB.
I create a RAID array with the type 1 (mirror).

When I run the installation of VMware ESXi 5.1 U1 I see the RAID array, but the two discs.
I think that it is a driver problem.
So, I install special with an iso VMware in the VMware Web site for Cisco server.
I have test with ESXi 5.0 and 5.1, and 5.1 U1 but it's the same problem.

I try to remove the RAID array and to install esx on disc one monkey. Installation works well, but in the boot menu, I can't boot from a hard disk. I don't know why I search with UEFI and she is disabled.

I test with windows 2012, and 2008R2 to check if its working but in install I don't see also hard drive or the RAID array.
I go to Cisco and download the driver of the 2G for VMware Linux and Windows.
I try inserting the driver in windows install, but does not.
I think that the driver for a hardware RAID card and software.

I have try to disable the LSI RAID in the advanced bios "SouthBridge". After I disabled I don't know how I can do to start on the hard drive.
When I go to the start menu (F6) I see absolutely nothing in drive.

I test this on two Cisco server.

I can't know what I can do now. I take a working installation tomorrow and nothing.

    Thank you very much.

    Stephane,

For what I understand, you use the RAID controller integrated, therefore, these drivers will not work you:

    -LSI 92xx

    -LSI 106xE

    -LSI 2008 M

    -INS 3081E-R

    -LSI8708EM2

    -LSI 9201< all="" of="" the="" above="" are="" not="" the="" controller="" you="">

    -CISO 1225 x< this="" is="" for="" the="" vic="">

    -CISCO P81E< this="" is="" for="" the="" 1st="" generation="" of="" vic="" cards,="" so="" definitely="" not="" a="" raid="">

Pilots are organized into top level by operating system folders, and each folder of OS has a structured series hierarchically who become more specific subfolders so that you can find the exact drivers you need. When you navigate to a folder containing the drivers, it will contain also one or several README files that explains what are these drivers in particular.

Here is an example of the structure of folder for Windows:

Windows    ChipSet       vendor          blade-model-number             OS-version-number                All                ia64                Lang (contains language subfolders)                Vista                x64

    You need to look for: /< OS > / storage/Intel/C600 /.< if="" you="" are ="" doing="" the="" installation="" of="" the="" os="" through="" the="" kvm,="" you="" first="" need="" to="" un-mount="" the="" os="" .iso="" image="" to="" mount="" the="" drivers,="" once="" the="" drivers="" are="" done,="" un-mount="" the="" drivers="" and="" mount="" again="" the="" os="" .iso="">

If it does not, you better open a TAC case that will allow us to put in place an additional troubleshooting Webex meeting.

  • Problem with to demote a domain controller

    Hi all

I tried today demote a domain controller, but my domain environment is still need of this domain controller to work.
I have windows Server 2003 Small Business DC as DC1 & lately I added windows Server 2008 R2 DC as DC2 in the new box as an additional area. Now, I need to downgrade the windows server 2003 SB (DC1) in an old box.
I transferred FSMO (all 5 roles) and remove DC1 from the announcement. In addition, remove it AD users & computers and Services of & Sites AD and DNS... I used the steps in this link: http://www.petri.co.il/delete_failed_dcs_from_ad.htm
When Dc1 is not connected to the network, you receive this error (see this picture of this link http://i41.tinypic.com/30upoxj.png) every time I opened all the consoles AD (AD users & computers, etc...).
Also, when I tried to change the domain controller, it seems that he could not located the domain or domain controllers. Please, see this photo from this link: http://i43.tinypic.com/2n6afx1.png
I can solve it reconnect DC1 to the network, but I don't want to keep it longer, and I don't know what Miss me? Also, I tried to use dcpromo to remove the domain controller DC1, but I got an error message that tells me that this is not the last domain controller in the forest and cannot proceed with the removal of the DC.
Can you help me as soon as POSSIBLE, I'm right here.
Waiting for your answer... Thank you!

  • 3 physical disks in 1 TB in RAID 5 with only its 1 TB usable space incorrectly? Using a Dell PERC 6 / i controller.

We have a server Dell PowerEdge with a PERC 6 / i controller. There are three physical disks for 1 TB. I created a RAID 5 array, but it seems that there is only 1 TB of usable space after you initialize the virtual disk RAID 5.

What is wrong? I Googled what should be the size, and I think we should not 1 TB, 2 TB of usable space?

Too bad. It looks like the physical disks are 500 GB in size, which makes sense.

  • PE R410 / PERC 6 / I VDs invisible to OS install

Its weeks like that, why I hate going on vacation.

    I have a Dell R410 server, latest version of the BIOS (1.12.0) w / PERC 6 / I adapter RAID-5 (package 6.3.3.0002 w / 1.22.52 firmware).

This server has been configured w / two VDs: a VD/OS "boot" of 256 GB and a score of 'data' of 5 TB. Existing running Windows 2008 Standard, can't remember how long, probably because it was purchased? 4? Years ago.

While I was on vacation, 'something' happened. 'Something' being defined as I don't know what. It is a server non-mission-critical - I use it mainly as a software and data for IT to support repository, so nobody really noticed in offline mode. When I returned (and necessary to access info about it) I noticed it was to start, basically sitting in the place where he finished POST with the slider at the bottom of the screen immediately after the display BMC configuration (no card iDRAC in this area). Last message on the screen is "4 fan speed may change depending on configuration card installation and the system option", which is quite normal (at least since I bought the box).

So, I guess the box rebooted at some point, done all the POST diagnostics and then couldn't not would not start.

Rebooted the box is gone in the RAID configuration section, the two VDs are Optimal. When I boot, in messages, POST, PERC messages indicate "2 virtual drives, the host adapter" and "2 virtual drives managed by the BIOS. So far so good. Exit RAID config, let the system restart and pass all messages post once again and finally, after the message 'Fan 4', the box a few stalls.

I think that something that happened for the boot sector or partition from the OS so I was missing. I thought it would be a good time to just format the OS partition and install Windows Server 2012R2 x 64 instead, which brings the box to date.

Only one problem... 2012R2 does not "see" the VDs.

From my readings online, 2012R2 has allegedly supported integrated Perc 6 / I controller. Then, when I start installation of 2012R2, I expect the system to detect the VDs. But it's not.

Based on a different view, I found here, I deleted and recreated my VD "OS". Still no luck.

Perhaps believing the Perc 6 / I I didn't somehow supported by the native 2012R2 Installer, I scrounged up until I found a driver that acknowledged the Installer (side: why is it so difficult to find the drivers on the dell site now?) All I could find are these "packets update" which really must be on the machine in the operating system already installed, and you cannot extract the drivers on another system to put on a USB key. Very aggravating, unless I'm missing something obvious.). I think that the driver I eventually ended up finding was W2003x64 Perc 6 / I pilot.

Setup recognizes the driver on the USB, when I select it I assume it installs (I see the key USB activity), but the installer still does not see the two VDs.

Given that the box had the original Windows Server 2008 is installed, I dug my old records 2008 installation and tried with them. No go. Exactly the same problem. Makes me wonder how I ever got this box 2008 running. Maybe I imagined it.

So, after this lengthy rant, my question: what I am doing wrong, or should I do something here I think... because, frankly, I'm out of ideas. At this point, that I would be happy just getting ANY OS installed on the box so I can copy the information off of it to another machine, because, while information on it is not vital, yet its going to be a major PITA to rebuild.

Anyone has an idea why 2008 and 2012 is not recognize the PERC 6 / I VDs? Is there a different driver, I need, or...?

    Thank you

    Excellent forensic work, Mike!

Sorry to hear about your problems with your PERC 6 / i adapter

    Is your replacement PERC 6 / I, at the same level as your original adapter firmware (6.3.3 - 0002, 1.22.52 - 1909)? Link to PERC 6 / I Firmware

Since your VDs appear as optimal, and you receive no error messages during POST about your storage controller / VDs, we can ignore this:
PERC BIOS (CTRL-R in the POST) VD Mgmt screen main Menu:
    1. press CTRL-n to access of PD Mgmt screen
    2. check the information from hard drive (number of drives listed, drive status).

Please try to check the consistency of the data:

Perform the following steps to run a consistency check (it is not destructive).
1 inside PERC BIOS (CTRL-R in the POST), press to access the VD Mgmt menu
    screen.

    2. tap on the down arrow key to select the virtual disk #.
    3. press on to display the menu of available actions.
    4. press the down arrow key to select consistency check.
    5. press the right arrow key to display the menu of available actions, Start and Stop button.
    6. Select start and press to run a consistency check.
The consistency check runs and checks the redundancy data in the virtual disks.
    7. After you start the consistency check, press to display the previous menu.

For your initial problems with undetected drives, ensure that bootable media is enabled:
    1. from PERC BIOS, press to access the Ctrl Mgmt menu screen.
    2. press on to move the cursor to enable THE controller BIOS in the settings area.
    3. press the SPACEBAR to select Enable controller BIOS. An X appears next to enable THE controller BIOS.
    4. Press apply on to move the cursor on the button and then press to apply the selection.

Try to check your Windows partition using diskpart (there is a 'RECOVER' option that you can consider).

  • Dell R730xd with mode PERC H730 and RAID/HBA

    Hi all

I have a new Dell R730xd with a PERC H730 card. I have six 4TB readers connected to it. It works very well in RAID mode, but the map also has support for the 'HBA' mode In other words, the card works like a basic HBA and disables the RAID functionality. When the HBA mode map software can see the disks, but they never make it through the operating system. Readers are not detected in the MESSAGE as no RAID and there is no option to convert them to no RAID.

I talked about this through with technical support, which have been really helpful, but we can't find a solution. It seems to work on their server, but not mine.

So I write here to see if anyone else uses this configuration, or to find out if anyone has had the same problem and maybe even resolved. Let me know!

    Thank you
    Tim.

We had the same problem as well. I was able to solve the problem but doing a factory reset in the HBA. After the reset and reboot retype again HBA configuration and activate the HBA mode and your good.

    Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my blended Xserve RAID.

I see in RAID-Admin and configure it successfully (via Ethernet). Connect with our Xserve via Fibre Channel, but the XServe and XServe RAID do not detect each other.

The fiber on the Xserve channel LEDs are white on the Xserve RAID completely off and permanent.

RAID-Admin status of Fibre Channel: 'No connection (1 table)' with a red square.

If I try to open the utility of fiber channel I get the message: "card Fibre Channel is not found." Utility disk OS X can't, too.

I changed the card connector cable, and made several reboots. But each time the same thing: they do not detect each other.

What can we do? How to find the old driver?

    Kind regards...

    Hello

to install VIB/driver to take effect, you must restart you host. If something goes wrong don't worry, you can use alt-bootbank to restore any changes made by the installer.

To use successfully restore to the previous picture SHIFT + R during the process of start-up of ESXi.
