  I just got my new AW13 this week and I really like the system, but I wanted to swap out the HARD drive with a 500GB 1 TB SSD.

  I got a Crucial MX100 and used Acronis to copy all partitions on the original drive to the new.  I had the SSD drive in a box external usb and the system had no problem see the drive at all.  Everything seemed fine until I moved the SSD in the laptop of the outer envelope.  The laptop does not recognize that a disk is connected when I have the SSD connected directly to the port on the MB SATA.

  Here's what I've tried so far...  I checked to make sure I had a clean connection between the sata cable and the SSD and it seemed fine.  I check the connection of the cable SATA at the Mo and which was very good (unplugged and put back in place).  I put the old HDD in the system and he shot straight up.  I put the SSD drive in the USB box and it has been recognized and accessible.  I checked in the bios for all the parameters that would focus on the HARD drive and can't really see anything working to play with.  There is no raid option, so UHCI is the only option.  I called Crucial and asked them, but the laptop is so new, they don't have much info on what it is still of great help.  With the drive works when connected to USB, it concluded that maybe it was something specific to the cable that was not standard or maybe something in the bios.  I posted on the notebookreview forums and someone else had the same experience with another disc crucial, but try a samsung drive, and it worked fine on their AW13.

  I wanted to check here before I give the floor in support to see if anyone has had similar experiences and solved the problem.

  After that 2 hours with tech support, I was informed that the alienware system does not support the brand crucial ssd. They suggested that I buy a Samsung drive.

  I'm upgrading to a better laptop to edit your HD projects and search for help on the best configuration of disk for my particular situation for laptop.

  So far, I have worked with a simple system of two drives:

  C: OS and applications, export and the Cache (240 GB SSD)

  D: Media (750 GB 7200 RPM)

  I know that it is literally the bare minimum and so with my next machine, I wanted to do better.

  I settled on the Asus G751 as my next machine but have a budget that I have to paste on $ 1850 USD

  To my knowledge the G751 has only 1 slot Sata III and 2 Sata II connectors, assuming I have remove the STRANGE and use a shopping cart of 9.5 mm.

  It kind of makes up for this limitation with 4 usb 3.0 ports and a thunderbolt port, but in any case, I have so far worked on the following options.

  C: OS and applications, export and the Cache (500 GB Samsung 850 Evo)

  D: Media (2x1To 7200 RPM in RAID 0 software)

  OR

  C: OS and applications, export and the Cache (240 GB SSD reused since my current computer)

  D: Media (1 TB SSD Samsung 850 Pro)

  The second option allows even another drive to be added later for the use of export and the cache, but for now, it would be still only two disks.

  So it's best to max on all areas of the disc with a raid 0 or stick with a single ssd?

  SSD any day.  I do not know what G751 you look but my G750JW has two SATA III connectors and optical drive is certainly SATA II, two SATA III ports work great and get every bit of performance SATA SSD can provide.

  Don't bother to remove the optical drive and buy another storage device.  You get a best in class a USB 3.0 flash drive and you will have a storage device which will be about 2 - 3 times the performance of any device of bottle neck SATA II.  This USB 3.0 device is plugged into this laptop now as when I finished what I will be changing a concert.  All my project file and the media are about this and when I get by the edition I'm going to my office and the whole project is ready for production disk and export.  What I am referring is the Samsung Q1 USB 3 flash player.  They are available in capacities of 250 GB, 500 GB and 1 TB.  Best laptop computer accessory, I found.so a lot, until they have begin to deliver new devices USB 3.1

  I just bought a new alienware 15 and 2 x 500 GB Samsung ssd m2 installed.  They are installed and in the bios, I can see them, but when I go to 'my computer' they aren't there.  I would like to store data on these discs, but I can't seem to access Windows... any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

  I'm not an expert, but have you spent in the Windows disk management and "mounted" readers?  It's pretty simple, you can google one how.  (eg. How mount HARD drive in windows 8) I had to do this when I added my TeamViewer m.2 ssd in my alienware 15.  You will probably also want to change your BIOS to ACHI to get the most out of the SSD, but do some research on, you may need to perform a new installation of windows.

  We would like to know if it is supported to use two SSD drives in a RAID 1 configuration.

  How the controller or the handle of the Garbage collection, Trim and other techniques SSD SSD?
  Are there solutions in place for Wear leveling and how do they work?
  What are the methods of protection for the I/O failures for these SSD drives and / or PERC controllers?

  Yes, you can use SSDS in RAID 1.

  The controller supports the TRIM and cancel orders mapping. SSD MLC are grade consumer SSD which will not have the life expectancy of SLC.

• Z420 - RAID + AHCI problem

  using z420, Firmware is up to date, Windows 8 - with the latest drivers from HP Homepage.

  Storage mode is set to RAID + AHCI.

  Samsung 840 PRO SSD attached to the SATA Port 0 (AHCI 6 GB/s)

  2 x Samsung Barracuda attached to 3 + 4 Port SATA (AHCI / 3 GB/s) running RAID 1

  The problem is that my SSD is NOT detected in Mode AHCI (detected as IDE) - and hence the Performance struggles.

  When I detach the 2 Barracuda and change the storage Mode in the BIOS to AHCI only (without RAID) and restart Windows (driver AHCI enabled in the registry) the SSD is correctly detected as AHCI and offers a desired speed.

  Back to the RAID + AHCI the SSD is again detected in IDE mode.

  Is there a problem with RAID + AHCI Mode that the SSD is detected as NO AHCI?

  Hope someone can help me with that.

  well - I was able to solve the performance problem now!

  I replaced the rest of iaStorA.sys with the iaStorA.sys RST version - and now the system SSD full speed...

  I have attached 2 Screenshots - "before.jpg" watch my setup with performance problems. "after.jpg" my current setup with maximum performance!

  Only problem left is the name of the SSD paralyzed device - but I hope that it is not a problem...? ! ?

  I found the solution myself. After detection, the default drive is a SATA drive (and), I got the idea to test it on the Intel SATA controller. It was possible to install the spirit of the machine the disks attached to the Intel controller. After installation, I went to Device Manager and installed the driver of Lenovo Marvell, rekindled the Marvell controller disk and started the. Successfully. Yes!

  On my way to the solution, I had another problem: in the setup of Windows GUI part, I got an error of 0 x 80300001 with Lenovo's Intel SATA driver. It was not possible to install windows Server on the SATA drive with reason0x80300001. very helpful post, Microsoft! (-) I decided to use the default Microsoft for the Intel SATA controller driver after a reboot. Installer executed well, but ended with an error 0 x 80070017 and problems of copy of (unknown) files. The solution (found after a few hours...) was to burn a new installation of Windows Server DVD. I don't want to talk about it anymore...

  I just wanted to confirm that with the model DV6-7215TX can upgrade its SSD HARD drive? This model has the 32 GB SSD for fast start, then 1 TB HDD. If I simply clone the disk for one SSD same size.   No doubt an SSD isn't the thing to have and the problem you describe is exactly what would be improved by an SSD... long time linear file transfer. The existing drive to the WSSD is an obstacle, however. The WSSD and the SATA drive is in a RAID array. The BIOS is set to RAID to allow that, and you have no control over the parameter disable RAID in BIOS. If you really want to install a SSD I go into the Intel Rapid Storage console and disable acceleration by the mSATA reader. I have then clone the SATA drive to the SSD drive and replace the former with the latter.

  Just bought a new non-custom desire dv7-7212nr 2 days ago.  Main specifications are:

  3rd gen i7-3630QM

  750 GB 7200 RPM HARD drive

  Drive hard acceleration Cache 32 GB SSD

  8 GB OF SDRAM

  Windows 8

  Other components are irrelevent to my questions or situation.

  The wording 'Hard Drive Acceleraton Cache 32 GB SSD' spec would mainly means the technology Intel Rapid Storage, perhaps combined with the Intel Quick start technology.  Yet, on this computer, I can find only an Intel Rapid Start Technology Manager.

  In Panel of-> system and security-> administration-> computer management tools > storage-> disk management, I can see disk 0 to 699 GB with several partitions, which include the OS (C) and (D) RECOVERY.

  Disc 1 has proved to have an 8 GB partition.

  I find that disk 1 is the SSD and this computer has only the Intel Rapid Start SW technology and configuration.  I read on the internet for this tech in fast ignition to work, an SSD should have a partition that is exactly the same size as the SDRAM.

  My first set of questions are: 1) is my correct conclusion? (2) how HP put in an SSD of 32 GB and uses only 8 GB of it?

  I chatted online with an HP support who asked me to download from a website for HP Intel Rapid Storage Technology and SW drivers and assured me that the installation would not cause any problems or conflicts with the existing configuration, and so I did.  I have no ill effect (yet), but it doesn't seem to be that a good effect is.  On the one hand, it is supposed to be a new 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology' application, but there is none.  So HP support and I can not go further, and support suggested that I do a system recovery, return the setting to factory.  I told him the computer is 2 days, and I to him did nothing other than downloads, that he asked me to do.

  My next set of questions are: a) HP wouldn't put in quick start and quick storage in this product, taking into account the SSD of 32 GB? (b) is there a way to add storage now fast SW and config to envy dv7-7212nr to fully use the 32 GB of SSD? (c) do I keep off to pass my own files on this computer before the problem of cache SSD?

  Finally, I did the Windows experience index runs on the computer and got a score of 5.9 on performance of the hard disk.  I read on the internet that the score is in line with the performance of disk HARD 7200 RPM, which suggests no effect of cache SDS.

  I realize I'm putting in a long post, but I wanted to provide enough information for the experts to evaluate and give answers.

  It's my real desire HP dv7-7212nr. The screen may be slightly different from mine because I fiddled with technology Intel Rapid Storage Technology (for example, the default Cache volume is 22 GB, where, as mine said 21 GB). Although the WSSD is 32 GB, the size displayed in the Windows is always less than the specified size (30 GB instead of 32 GB). Similarly, the 750 GB hard drive is displayed as GB 699.

  As you may already know, the 8 GB data volume is configured as a partition hibernation for Intel Quick START technology, and the rest, 21 GB in my case, is used as cache acceleration to Intel Rapid STORAGE Technology. The status of SATA (750 GB HDD) drive "fast-track" means that the hard drive is "fast-track" by the cache on the SSD drive and that it is configured and working properly. You can easily change these settings if you take the time to read and learn about it; for example, you can disable the quick START (hibernation partition) and use the whole SSD for fast STORAGE (acceleration).

  Your BIOS should certainly have an entry indicating the Intel Rapid STORAGE technology works properly. I forgot the exact name of it, but I will edit this post to let you know what he said exactly once that I reboot to enter the BIOS again.

  I don't have a big budget so I can't buy test and buy another if this does not work, I tested research, updates in memory and storage work. I don't have the laptop but I still have my r1 but I want to buy everything before it is there, but it seems that everything has changed.

  you are right, the R3 17 has only two slots of m.2 ssd, but they are pci express x 4... which is really very fast if you add a basic ssd is samsung. the old alienware 17 R2 (previous) has 4 m2 but only sata speed. This laptop has 1-2.5 inch mechanical hard drive, which I eventually improve to a 2 TB ssd when the price goes down more. There are two slots for RAM and supported up to 32. I highly recommend the option panel of 4 k. 4 k Committee is breathtaking.

  1. 4 k Board

  2. each gpu is good, 980 M if you go to a lot of game.

  3. standard 1 TB hd, you can always add an ssd later. Alienware uses PM951 SSD, high speed but terrible write the write speed. Samsung is supposed to release 1 TB 950 pro, which has the writing/red crazy speed. If you have the patience, wait as the 961 series of samsung.

  4 choose the wifi receiver intel 8260, the killer is rubbish.

  5 RAM depends on your line of work, but don't forget there are only two slots. Alienware uses 2 8 gb 16 gb option. So when you want 32 GB, we sell the 'old'.

  6. 6700hq and 6820hk i7 is fast. the difference between them is only 100 MHz. Overclocking in a laptop is never a good idea.

  I have a HP Pavilion Elite HPE - 180 t desktop PC with Windows 7 64 bit installed.  I do a good amount of games on my PC and a year ago I upgraded my card to an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 graphics and my diet to a Thermaltake TR2 RX 750W unit.  I also have a card mother mATX (9.6 "x 9.6") of PEGATRON.

  Recently, I tried adding an SSD for my machine in order to improve the performance and organisation for some PC games that I love.  I did some research on the subject and am found a bit confused on whether or not, my motherboard will be able to handle the addition of an SSD in my machine.  I have read that I need you sure that my motherboard supports natively AHCI?  How can I check to be sure that if I buy an SSD that I'll be able to integrate it into my system?

  To be clear, I want to continue to use my disk regularly to run my operating system and all the other goodies on my PC and install an SSD for store and load my music/movies/games etc.  I was watching some affordable 'mushkin' SSD that seem to do the trick.  I can give the link for more later if necessary.  Thanks for your help!

  F10 to the HP splash screen you will get in the bios.

  AHCI is recommended for use with an SSD, but it is not necessary. Most modern SSDS are supported operation garbage collection which does almost the same thing to maintain the SSD.  Check with the manufacturer of your SSD.

  Even if the SATA controller is set to RAID and the SSD doesn't not part of an active array, topping should always work.

  The license of Windows 8, my understanding, is the UEFI. So I recommend that you ask the disc from Dell.
