Raid Window8 options

I asked this question on another Board and still waiting for resolution, so thought I would try to get an expert HP expert day. I'm still not owner of a HP, but want to be in the very short term. I would like a machine Phoenix H9 - 1320t with Raid 1 2 TB disks, but since the day Windows 8 is out I couldn't configure - model 1320t with 2 readers optical (I want an extra buner of DVD and bluray. This was not a problem with the previous Windows 7 that I had previously saved this configuration and considered upgrading to Windows 8 later... but finally didn't. I cheked also H8 - 1420t and it has the same issue. Is there something abouit Windows 8, which has led to this more limited set up with Raid 1 (or 0)?

I also read them that Windows 8 has a feature called storage spaces. This is equivalent to the Raid. If yes how it works in mirroring if I lose my main drive. Should he behave like Raid1 and still boot but with degraded drive warning?

Thank you for your consideration.

Paul

I got my solution from another source. It is a question of compatibility associated with the Raid driver and the current bios, HP does not recommend using 2 optical drives. Everything is OK with the AHCI parameter.

    Hello

I want to create a configuration of server and storage, I would look at the below:

    • PERC H730P internal RAID, 2 GB of Cache NV controller
    • 2 x 200 GB SSD (RAID 1 for the OS)
    • 4 x 400 GB SSD (RAID 10)

I've seen on these forums that this or similar configurations are supported and even saw a white paper on the Dell website where a 4 discs SSD RAID 10 has been used, but still my assigned comes to tell me that the SSDS in a RAID configuration is not "recommended" by Dell and are rather trying to sell me the solution of Cache of DAS of SanDisk.

Looking for confirmation that I can use drives SSD in a RAID AND configuration has full Dell supported. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this.

    Hello

What model of server are you watching? What OS you run on it? If you use valid Dell SSD, you shouldn't have a problem with this Setup. The controller supports the TRIM and should work fine in the RAID. If you use rank consumer SSD you can have problems.

  • Can I use the 2nd HD with RAID 0 in my G15-AV501 QOSMIO?

    Dear,

I have a QOSMIO G15-AV501. This model does not support HD RAID by the BIOS, but I would use software RAID.
The question is: can I use the 2nd HD using RAID 0 by re? I will use as RAID 0 in order to promote the overall performance. Is this possible?

    Thank you.

    Dario of Colombia.

    Hello

I don t think you will be able to use the RAID if the laptop doesn't supports RAID and has no RAID controller.
Usually for RAID using the RAID controller driver must be installed. This must be done at the beginning of the installation of the OS. Without this driver HARD drive can't be recognized and you will not be able to install the operating system.

However, as I know the RAID option doesn t accelerates the overall performance.
The RAID is useful if the first disk goes dead and restore you the data.
RAID mirroring option saves the data on two hard disks.

  • is there an advantage to RAID on AHCI

In a HP Workstation xw4600 is there an advantage to using the RAID storage option in the BIOS and not AHCI.

I do not use any RAID configuration.

The RAID mode is only useful for a RAID configuration. It provides functionality of hotplug, but the disks are treated as IDE disks.

AHCI mode is the best option for your system, as it enables NCQ and hotplug. Readers are treated as native SATA drives.

IDE mode is a solution of compatibility for older operating systems that cannot handle the controllers SATA (DOS, Win95/98/ME).

  • RAID 1 on ix12-300r

We have a storage ix12-300r without raid 1 option. This have only options raid 0, 5, 6 and 10.

The version of firmmare is 4.0.20.33131.

Please, it is possible to raid 1 on this storage option enabled?

    Hello Gus_Lenovo

Our equipment does not display the Raid 1 option.
We found it necessary to mark the two disks and create RAID 10 (Yes, RAID 10).
Subsequently the RAID 1 option appears on the menu.

    Thanks for your reply.

At startup, I repeatedly see a pop-up saying failure of raid access: critical error disk WDC WD5000AAKS-75A7B0 (sata 1.1 port).

Since it started my computer lag/stutters all the seconds: music/slider/graphics.

At the same time, I received an error message saying windows host process for services (I forgot the exact name) and superfetch times failed, but this part of the problem has been RESOLVED by following the instructions of someone: raid error/stuttering are still not resolved.

Edit: stuttering seems to vanish for periods of time, but it comes when I listen to music on youtube / possibly of other unknown triggers
stuttering seems to be particularly bad in Diablo III, makes the game unplayable

Edit2: I disabled and re-enabled my thingys to RAID SATA option in BIOS and no error message: until I opened diablo 3.

    Hello

I suggest to go to Western Digital to see if they have a diagnosis and run on the disc to check bad sectors, etc.

You can also check the article check your hard drive for errors, to see if that helps.

  • ML350 G6 Raid 5

    Hello

I have Proliant ML350 G6 server and three HD I want to create RAID 5 on them.

I arrived at the utility gonfigureation of painting on the inside of the server but it gave me RAID 0 and RAID 0 + 1 for sure only allowed me to use RAID 0 + 1 and options to create a RAID. When I used the SmartStart CD and here I only RAID 0 option.

I use these three HD is large enough to restore the SBS backup file. Is there a way to get 5 RAID option here?

Note: I used SmartStart 8.70.9 and Firmware 9.2 update

    Please advice, thank you

Do you know what RAID controller, the unit?  According to these specifications on page 4, there are some that only one RAID controller that does not support RAID 5 the unit could have come up with.

  • UCS 220 M3 LSI raid configuration

    Hi all

Really struggling here set up our disks/RAID on our server.

We ordered with the lsi megaraid 9271-8i.

By reading the documentation (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/hw/C220/ins...) it seems that we should have to use the following:

UCS in disabled bios - done.

Then set up the RAID, we want with the disks we want (we have 8) you should get a prompt after post Ctrl + M

    I never see this message?

I even went through the process of post whole spamming Ctrl + M without seeing any kind of raid configuration options.

    Something I am doing wrong?

    Appreciate any advice.

In your config file in the BIOS ("Advanced" tab) in the MMIC, confirm that you have "Option ROM' enabled for the PCIe slot where the RAID controller is installed and disable all others, go into BIOS and confirm that the integrated RAID controller is disabled and then reboot the server... Once you see the list of disks during POST, press Ctrl +H, Ctrl + M is the integrated RAID controller. (The controller form factor of mezz is Ctrl + C, as explained here: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/hw/C200M1/i...)

  • RAID 5 configuration on t410

the RAID 5 on t410 it shows only raid 1, raid 0 and raid 10 option

Assuming you are using a controller H200 - he does not not RAID 5, only the RAID 0 and 1 (including 10). You will need a PERC 6 / i or H700 for RAID 5, I recommend against the use of RAID 5.

  • ESXi installer does not see my raid.

I installed a raid 5 (3 * 500GB SATA drives) but when I run the ESXi Setup program, it shows me the individual readers (it's a raid, I see only one). Once I let it install on one of these readers, I can't start in it since my mobo sees the raid and trying to start it.

So I find myself with a startup error.

My mobo is SuperMicro X8DTU, ICH10R SATA.

I have an Adaptec and usign Intel raid bios option, I can't get Raid 5 with Intel, so I've been usign who.

    What are my options here?

    Welcome to the forums!

You run the fakeraid question.  Hardware raid before the start of the operating system, how it is transmitted to the operating system for software raid.  Think of it more as software raid assisted equipment.  ESX would need to have the drivers installed to use it properly.  That's why the ESX installation program see several disks.

Your only options are not to use RAID functions or buy a hardware RAID card true.

A third option would be to find a raid card that makes drivers for ESX.  ESX 4 allows drivers to be installed to accommodate it.  I don't know any hand well.

  • RAID 5 or raid 0

    Hello

I had someone tell me that raid 5 is slow for my editing (or video). Is this true? With the help of a matrix raid 0 will be faster?

RAID 0 is faster than RAID 5, but less secure.  If a disk goes, you lose everything.

RAID 3 is actually the preferred choice for video editing, offering faster than RAID 5 performance as well as safety data.  As far as I know, only Areca cards still offer 3 RAID in option.

  • System drive Qosmio G20 with an image or a clone backup

On another thread, I asked problems with Acronis True Image to backup and cloning of my system (C) disk. Whenever I'm trying to clone my system disk or recover an image, I can create and restore the image, but when I install the player recreated and tries to start, I get as much "windows did not start successfully, I would like to start in safe mode... last good config known... or normal. All the options to return to the screen.

I have two drives 100 GB sata, with the first disc of the op system, programs and the second with my data and therefore has set up the raid as two independent disks and the raid console option disabled.

After trying another product of cloning with the same result, I guess there is something in the Qosmio implemented that is the cause. I read that Qosmio Player is installed on a hidden partition of Linux on the system drive and am wondering if it may not be picked up by the cloning and imaging software and that may cause boot failure.

So I have two questions. First of all, nobody knows why I might be problems starting from a clone or recovery using third party disk image backup software and second, anyone successfully upward and restore a G20 Qosmio Player system, and if so with what software and do you perform all the special functions.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

Well, I use the Toshiba Recovery CD to restore the operating system on the Qosmio G20.
It has also 2 x 100 GB, but under my computer, I saw only one a HARD drive. I created 2 partitions with the ghost (second option on the recovery CD).
However, I have now 2 partitions but after this procedure, the Qosmio player has been removed. I though that I need to install again simply because of the Qosmio player but I tried to install the Qosmio player after the recovery procedure and it has been successfully.

2 existing partitions and I also have a Qosmio player on my laptop.
But one thing is very strange; I can't locate the partition in disk management.
    But everything works ok

  • HP elitebook hard drive - (3F0)

I know because I tried it on another laptop. ANY HELP

Thank you very much, but I was able to fix with the help of Ajay Shenoy of the hp support team. and the steps I used.

    (1) change the RAID native SATA mode in BIOS
    (2) and also activate CTRL 'I' calls during the MISSION with option in BIOS
    (3) now during the press POST CTRL 'I' to configure the hard disk
    (4) it will show 2 hard drives it (500 GB and 32 GB)
    (5) select Delete Volume RAID option
    (6) (and delete the RAID Volume for two hard drives (after you remove both)
Hard drives appears as no RAID virtual drive)
    (7) once deleted still select create RAID volume option and select RAID 0
    Option (mirror/Cache)
    (8) now to save changes and exit and I run the new windows 8, only I lost some data

  • Replacing hard drive Samsung HD103SJ

I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100 with a processor i5 8GIG memory, Windows 7 Professional (upgrade online after purchase Dell) and a single 1 TB Samsung HD103SJ HARD drive.  Last weekend the Samsung went south.  The disc does not turn and the BIOS can't see it.  My brother-in-law said 'No problem' and proceedes to attempt restoring.  After dozens of false starts, the BIOS settings and a six-pack of beer, he declared defeat.

    I have three questions:

1 how the BIOS "SATA Mode" should be selected for a single 1 to HARD drive? (I get a new 1 to Western Digital Black from Dell)  All BIOS functions are now on 'default' including the "SATA Mode" in "RAID".

    2. is there a maximum number of times you can use the DVD to install Dell Windows 7?

    3. have Windows 7 Professional installed previuosly will cause a problem reinstalling Windows 7 from Dell reinstallation DVD in the new HARD drive?

    Thank you

Thanks, I'll use SATA.  I didn't know if DELL had shipped AHCI in their RAID BIOS option somehow for a selection of hard drive.

I have downloaded the ISO in Windows7 Digital River of www.w7forums.com/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads-t12325.html, created a DVD and actually seen the page of presentation of Windows 7!

All I have left to do is load all the drivers and software.  It is a road I've been down many times before.

You reference for the download of Digital River has been a godsend.

Thank you, I apologize for any reference I have that could possibly be to you when I let loose all how DELL handles the problem of lack of HDD Samsung.  I saw how you helped a lot of people in the community of DELL and now I'm one of them

    Thanks again!

  • C210 M1/M2 LSI 1064E only see 4 of 5 disks

I have several UCS C210 M1 and M2s, each has 5 x discs installed (72Go).  Interrupt the boot via Ctrl-c process to configure the RAID LSI 1064E controller but it shows only 4 of 5 readers installed.   I see 5 orders through the option of MMIC inventory.

Why am I not able to see all 5 readers?

Also have another question on the RAID IM option.  I am setting up two RAID arrays each with 2 discs and want a hot spare for them as well.  Each in own need dedicated relief? or 1 hot spare is available for both tables?

    Thank you

    Todd

You want to consider whether your C210 has a SAS Expander or SAS Extender.  These are maps girls connected to the back of the drive Bay and receive the connection of the controller board.  By default, a C210 will have an extension of SAS.  The SAS Expander is a update available at the time the C210 is ordered, it is not available as an upgrade of the domain.

The SAS Extender can provide connectivity to 4 disks SAS cable connected on it.  The 1064 only has support for a cable and is limited to 4 disks when used with the Extender of SAS.  The 9261 supports two cables and is limited to 8 disks.

The SAS Expander and support up to 16 disks with a single SAS connection.

    Responsible Dan
