RAM disk: is - this practice?

By ram drive running the operating system on the ram, I mean.  With memory prices so incredibly cheap and fast ram so abundant, it seems now is a better time then ever to do so.  I thought that I could save my OS and load it to memory prior to each session.  Currently I use about 6 GB for the C drive because I loaded all possible programs on another drive.  Many people use 16 GB of ram and when it costs only about $5 per GB, sound very tempting.  1600 mhz DDR3 is very powerful, quick and cheap now.  You can use a small SSD for all your program files or just a standard Sata 7200 RPM.

A virtual machine, you could easily test because you can put the virtual drive on the RAM disk and run the drive from there to test. I'm thinking now that it has been proposed.

If your motherboard 1155 can take a 32 GB of RAM, then go ahead. Some will work with him, some will not. Some are limited to 16 GB (motherboard, chipset/OS no limit). Windows XP 64 or Windows 7 64 would work.
Paging file, temporary files, etc. work well in a RAM drive. But, running more than RAM instead of a paging file works better (to a point, of course). With enough RAM, the swap file is rarely used, but required for some programs. With enough RAM, it wouldn't matter where he was.
XP 64 is great. As long as all your drivers and things are compatible. Windows 7 on the same hardware with lots of RAM would actually probably faster. I noticed that 7 has some improvements that make it faster than XP with recent material and more RAM.
I don't know how OSX works, but it is based on BSD, so I think that it would benefit from a RAM drive using the /swap partition.
Current SSDS are no faster than the RAM, but they have more space (and it's still there when you stop). An operating system on a RAM disk is not really practical. Restart the updates, driver install, etc. would be necessary and after the reboot you lose install updates, so you're still stuck with a default value.
I'm sure that someone has tried to put a Win7 installation on a RAM disk, a Google search can show you. You could probably try and make a picture for your PC with all drivers and updates and put this image on the Ramdisk to see what it looks like, but I wouldn't do it right now for a production or facility for anything other than messing around to try out it.

  • How can I get the Guest VM CPU, Ram, disk of VMware Tools?

    Hey guys,.

I have a question for the information of the guest OS,

I can use the SDK to get information such as the disk i/o of vCenter,

But I can't the CPU, Ram, disk use on the comments operating system?

I know vmware tools can help, but I don't know how to use the web Service to obtain, please do me a favor!

    Thank you

To get the disk usage information in the guest operating system, you get "guest.disk" property of the managed object VirtualMachine. This will give you the total capacity and free space on each disk information.

    http://www.VMware.com/support/developer/VC-SDK/visdk41pubs/ApiReference/Vim.VM.GuestInfo.DISKINFO.html

For the processor and memory, you can extract the properties "summary.quickStats.overallCpuUsage" and "summary.quickStats.guestMemoryUsage" of the managed object VirtualMachine.

original title: problems of Windows update/upgrade

I'm currently trying to install Windows 7 on my desktop running Vista.

Whenever I run the Setup it comes up with the following error: Windows could not retrieve information about the disks on this computer.
I already put the virtual disk on auto and rebooted several times. I get the same error.
Also, I tried to update my computer by using the windows update thinking that would help... Windows update decides to not work either! It comes up with the error: Windows Update cannot currently check the updates, because the service is not running. You may have to restart your computer.
gain, I restarted and it still does not work.
I am currently running Windows Vista 32 bit on my desk (I thank God for my laptop!).

  • Try to install Windows 7 from XP, receive the error message "Windows could not retrieve information about the disks on this computer.

Try installing Windows 7 from XP and keep having this error message before choosing my instalation method, Windows not able to retrieve information about the disks on this computer.

Because the migration from Windows XP to Windows 7 requires a clean install anyway, might as well you are backing up your important files and settings using Windows Easy Transfer and do a custom clean install by booting from the Windows 7 DVD.

Hi, I would ask how to fix Capacity Planner not displaying no not Performace data on dashboard. Check the data of the "missing" view, Performance for the CPU, Ram Disk and Net are marked 'X '.

    Thanks in advance.

    Please see attached file...

According to the screen shots data were collected only tree days yet. If I'm mistaken for reports display performance data, a minimum (not sure how many days) of collected performance data. Maybe there is something in the documentation!

I would recommend that you go to the '1. Put tab in place' and change the date range for the project.  I can see your username that you are Thai and generally the data send to Thailand would contain 255 x years (thai year) instead of 201 x.

  • I want to improve my Acer Aspire E5 - 571G - 57CS of 4 GB of RAM DDR3 L for a 8 GB of RAM. Is this possible?

And if the answer is Yes, then the warranty service would free it will affect my warranty? In addition, should what kind of RAM I look for if I want to upgrade? Aries will be added to the existing RAM and it will replace it?

I'm sorry for so many questions, my English and my ignorance when it comes to upgrading a laptop. And is all what I should know about upgrading RAM as it might damage the data on my disk, etc. ?

    Notes:

I still have the warranty and the stamp is still there.

    Data sheet:

    • Intel Core i5-5200U 2.20 GHz
    • NVIDIA GeForce dedicated 820 m with 2 GB of VRAM
    • HARD DRIVE 500 GB
    • 4GB DDR3 Memory (RAM) L
    • Windows 10 Pro (i think)

I know not if Acer will modernize under warranty, you must remove the motherboard to increase the RAM, the installation of CPU - Z to find out the exact your RAM specifications, then buy with timing and characteristics and to update yourself, if you are not sure to dismantle get performed by a technician on site, you can find the cost of this upgrade for your support of Acer local as they can do for one, compare prices with the quote from your local technician.

You will lose all the data from your hard drive because of the upgrade of RAM but I tell reflect you to back up the entire system on an external hard drive using Macrium or similar utility.

This is to show you how to upgrade and what is at stake:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmsFDi_qsnQ

This is just one example to show how to find the upgrade for your laptop and you don't need to buy Crucial memory, any brand works as long as they match the same characteristics as your current RAM.

  • Ram disk cache is not all temporary files

I use xubuntu and want Firefox to use a virtual disk cache. My settings are:

    Browser.cache.Disk.parent_directory - string - / media/ramdisk
    Browser.cache.Disk.Enable - false
    Browser.cache.Memory.Enable - true

When I restart firefox I see a new cache2 folder appear in the virtual disk (as it should). Inside this folder are two more, condemned and entries.

In the past, when I used a ramdisk the 'inputs' folder still contained data for the displayed web pages. These data disappear (as it should) is restarted.

However, now, the "Scriptures" folder is always empty - never contains all the temporary files.

As far as I know, firefox does not use another cache somewhere I changed the name to .old.

Is it normal to act that way now?

    You are welcome.

If the disc is dead, it will be not not to be replaced. This should be done first before to other devices.

  • Satellite A300 - 1 MM: RAM, disk, CPU upgrade

    Hello from Greece,

I have toshiba satellite A300 - 1 MM a moment when you have completed the education that I won t to upgrade my laptop.
For this movement I change ram, CPU and hard drive.
But I do not know I f the system will recognize.

_Below quote you the characteristics I want change_

Fisrt of T3200 (1 MB of cache, 2.00 GHz, 533 MHz FSB) to
Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T9400 2.53 Ghz 1066 MHz 6 MB CPU
(Deuxieme from 3 GB ram 8 GB
    Third ocz vertex 2
Fourth one another graph one know not particular

    ? Thanks for your time

To be clear: the upgrades of RAM and HARD drive are supported.
Update CPU is not supported due to several reasons. Check the lease - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

You must understand that the hardware update on mobile machinery is quite limited due to the special construction and cooling system. I put t know to what kind of operations, you use your laptop, but my A300 works perfectly with Win7 32 bit and has enough power for daily activity and all multimedia operations.

Upgrade of RAM maximum and be happy with it.

  • Portable CQ58, disk recovery "this computer is not supported by the system recovery media.

    Hello HP,.

I have a laptop CQ58-bf9WM, which had Windows 8.1.  The 320 GB hard drive died and bought a new SATA 500 GB laptop.  had no CD recovery, went online, enter all the important information, serial No., model #, then purchased through HP recovery disk, received the CD (manufacturer 708896-001, 708895-001 708897-001) and put #1 disc in the CD started and that's what I get: this computer is not supported by the system recovery media.  You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these media.  "Error: 0100-169-1855-188 b" then you have the OK, then when you press OK, the laptop shuts down.  I pressed ESC on POST, then I tested memory and the new hard drive and they both passed.  HELP PLEASE!  Thank you

Should not have anything to do with the new hard-both disk that is at least equal or greater than original ability, they work. It is 'possible' that you have received the wrong set of recovery.

Thing of OE to check. Enter the BIOS by pressing F10 immediately after turning on (have to press ESC, then F10 to the menu). Is the serial number, model number.etc all intact?

  • HP 15 r204ne: r204ne 15 hp ram slots how this laptop has one or two

When I checked my ram I found only 4 GB
Now I want to upgrade my ram
Is that my laptop (hp 15 r204ne) has one or two slots of ram and what is the maximum memory I can update in every situation

My operating system is Windows Home Edition unilingual 64 10 x

    Thank you

    Here are a few selected information from the Service Manual that answers your questions;

housing for module customer accessible/upgradable memory 1 or 2 (depending on model) 2 slots: DDR3L - 1600 MHz Dual Channel Support (Core processors)

2 slots: DDR3L - 1600 MHz Dual Channel Support (Core processors)

Supports up to 16 GB of RAM in the following configurations: 16384 MB total system memory ● (8192 × 2)

If you have 2 slots and can install 2 x 8 gigabytes of memory to laptop DDR3L-1600 yours is a "Core" (i5).

HP recommends 8 module in concert:

    Module (PC3L, 12800, 1600 MHz) memory: 8 GB 693374-005

    Kingston sells this compatible memory:

    http://www.Amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-1600MHz-PC3-12800-KVR16LS11/DP/B00CQ35HBQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&QID=1456265312&SR=8-1&keywords=693374-005

However, upgrading memory is considered possibly a procedure of "Authorized Service Center only" (the manual is inconsistent on this) and is not easy to do in all cases. It would also potentially negate your warranty, but it is not 100% certain, either. Here is the manual and memory installation is completely up to the 75 percent. It would require removal of the motherboard, we will tell you.
