Ranging from VMs to new ESXi hosts on former ESXi hosts?
People,
I was wondering what is the situation with the execution of virtual machines created on the new version of ESXi on guests.
Example - if I have a host running 5.1 and running software to replicate to 4.1 running nightclub, the VMs system will start?
Hello
Depends on the vm hardware version it sir - take a look at the table in the blog entry
It gives a breakdown of the versions hw VM supported for different versions of ESX.
Hope this helps

We currently have a cluster of 6 Dell machines that move VM 120 or so on ESXi 5.5. Networking consists of a dVswitch with 6 uplinks that map to 6 x 1gig physical NETWORK adapters on each host ESXi... These are grouped into 3 trunks / gal, so we have 2 GB by SHIFTING of the bandwidth and failover. The LAGS are configured as follows:
LAG1
Traffic to our (NFS) shared data store and management of ESXi. (vmk0)
LAG2
Access to the network of the VM - groups of different ports on different VLANS
LAG3
vMotion (vmk1)
We just bought 6 new Dell machines that have connections fiber 2 x 10gig each. The idea is to bring together in a 20Ggig LAG by machine that will handle all of the traffic, so traffic NFS data store, network traffic from the VM, vMotion and traffic management ESXi.
What is the best way to migrate the virtual machine in the cluster existing to the new machines? Many of the virtual machine are essential, so we cannot stop time.
Can I create the new DELAY on existing dVswitch and put it as an auxiliary card? I'll be able to do it for all 3 of the above both above LAGS?
Thanks for the info Alistar, it's almost here. The bit that was me stumping was that after establishing a new dVswitch I received messages that the new dvSwitch was not reachable on the old host, when I tried to migrate the virtual computer.
The solution (with the permission of VMware Support) was that I need to add the two dVswitches to one of the old hosts, then assign a physical alternative on this host uplink to a temporary 3 uplink on the new dVswitch. I then tag all the relevant VLAN that uplink.
This way I can first migrate the virtual machine to the new dVswitch networking so I can move the computer to the new cluster.
Obviously I can only migrate from old to new cluster with a single host. each virtual machine must be a double for the host with 2 switches, and then to the new cluster. I also had to have the two dVswitches to the same version.
Fortunately, I had a physical rising spare on the hosts of the old, otherwise I would have had to break one of the trunks and re-use of one of these uplinks.
Oh and be aware, impossible to use the same names for groups of ports 2 DV switches, they must be unique!

How to move VMS to new storage AND new hosts
Hello
I'm having a hard time find, how can I move all the VMS NFS storage to a new storage iscsi (SAN HP). We are also the introduction of new material for guests, so throughout that this is an entirely new environment of vCenter (also from vSphere 4.1 to 5.5). My first thought was to attach new storage to the old hosts. Then do a migration of storage, one for a while (off voltage machines), remove the virtual machine from the old vCenter and then add them to the new environment of vCenter. But we have exhausted all NICs on the hosts of old, so I can't join the new storage, and I can't share a vmkernel for iscsi and nfs port.
You have any suggestions how I can address the issue?
It would work if you are very good to have downtime to your virtual machine.
If you incur no downtime, you can try to install the same set of ESX (i) version on a few new series of servers (for example 10 points on 50 new servers) and add them to the old CR and proceed step by step below
-Configure the old NFS storage on new set of servers
-Migrate (vMotion) all VMS on old NFS to the new set of servers
-Remove all the new set of VC servers
-Add the same set of servers (that have been migrated from VM) to new VC
-Migrate all virtual machines to the new storage and then upgrade your new set of servers
In my view, this way you can avoid having a downtime for your virtual machine.

How to change the sha - 1 certificate in my new esxi host
Hi guys...
as my lab crashed this morning (my computer has a blue screen) and of all the vm in my workstation crashed.
When I'm the my computer upward run again and pressed 'play' to start the esxi host, I received some strange error messages.
I decided to install a new host esxi5.1, and when I have finished configuring the esxi host, I noticed that the SHA - 1 certificate is not the same as the one I have (I have the new esxi I installed, and the older and sha-1 are different between the two hosts).
I added the vCENTER esxi host, and now I have 2 hosts esxi 5.1 with different certificates of sha - 1?
I can continue to work in this situation?
I built this laboratory to study the vcp 5.0 certification. (I also installed the 5.1 vsphere to manage guests)
It's a way to modify the certificate to the other esxi I have?
Hope to hear from you soon,
Best regards
Nahum
Israel.
Hi Nahum,
Each host is supposed to have a different SSL certificate
If you are looking to implement of the CA signed CERT for only ESXi hosts, this should help
VMware KB: Configuration CA signed certificates for guests of ESXi 5.x
or
http://www.derekseaman.com/2013/02/VMware-vCenter-51-installation-part-15.html
Blog of Derek has also to the replacement of all certificates of vSphere if you want to go this route

How to move VMs from free to paid esxi?
I'm new to Vmware. I have a free esxi host and just built 2 new server with essentials vsphere4 paid hosts. I want to move my the free esxi THIN provisioned vm to the paid servers and maintain the THIN disks. I can move it with fastscp but the discs end up thick!. I also have Vcenter server.
Please help, how to move the virtual machines and keep a provisioning?
Kind regards
Graham
If you have the essential bundle, you have the right to use up to 3 esx/esxi hosts. If you have built 2 new authorized hosts, you can use the last license for the free esxi and join the cluster and then ex-free esxi through vcenter use the migration feature.

Needs to migrate a computer virtual from ESX3.5 to ESXi 5.0
Hi team,
Needs to migrate a computer virtual from ESX3.5 to ESXi 5.0.
Please give me the steps.
A note, hence the machine virtual vmx file is on your storage space.
Right-click on the virtual machine, and then select 'delete inventory '.
On your new host navigate to store data with the vmx - right-click on it and select "add to the inventory.
Now you should be able to update your tools and your hardware,

New ESX5 host - questions see SAN storage data and much more
Just installed a new vSphere host 5 and added to a cluster with 2 x 3.5 host (in my vCenter Server 5)
3 questions.
1. I can't see LUN (on SAN datastore). Have zoned out my new HBA etc and still no joy. Tried the host that it recharges and rescan option etc. Any ideas?
2 - my 3.5 hosts I was able to specify different default gateways for my Console and VMKernel Service (both on the same vswitch). I have the Service Console configured vmkernel. 10.16.5.x and 172.16.5.x (I know there is no Service Console in vSphere 5\ESXi) but on my ESX5 host I can't specify different gateways for VMKernel and network management. I'm afraid that vmotion etc will not work between 3.5 hosts and host 5, because although the VMkernels have addresses in the same range, they have not the same gateway. I have to add a local route on the host ESX 5? Or am I wrong configured somewhere?
3 minor irritation. My local drive in my new server is showing that the data store. Can it be hidden or changed to not be visible in the data store? I want to only display my SAN data stores.
Thank you very much
Steve
(1) sounds like a SAN configuration problem - you should be able to see the LUN masking and zoning is correct in the FC switch and storage array.
(2) you could specify wear two ways because the vmkernel and the Service Console were different and supposed to be on different networks - you no longer have a gateway single vmkernel - traffic will work as long as they are on the same subnet - a gateway is used only when you exit the subnet
(3) I do not think it is possible to hide the local data store - but I could be wrong

New ESX host cannot see SAN fiber - Clariion
Hello
I spent about two hours, passing through communities and have tried various things without success... basically, I have a new ESX host that I've built, configured, and networked, but I can't see our existing SAN.
The SAN is a Clariion CX3 - 10 c and it hosts all of our existing VMs (we currently have two hosts attached to the SAN)
I have installed the CLI and Navisphere agent on the new host
I have started to host and that you have ENABLED the two adapters Emulex HBA (host contains two HBAs installed) because they showed as disabled by default BIOS
I have one of the HBAs connected to the fibre switch
On the fibre switch, I have a flickering green light where I plugged the fiber cable, which makes me think, it is connected OK
On the HBA, I have a green light and an orange light blink, which still makes me think the wiring is correct
BUT I do not see the front Navisphere host, and the host cannot see all storage even after re-reading.
Any ideas what to try next? I suspect that it is perhaps something to do with zoning - I must say the Emulex HBA how to find storage processors? If so, how can I go about it? From the BIOS by restarting the host and pressing ALT - E?
Any help or advice appreciated...
Assuming that hard zoning this site should provide you with some

Also once the switch is zoned if the host is not listed on
the Clariion Navisphere agent system has a config file that needs to be updated
with the IP addresses of the SPs.
You can also manually enter the host if necessary, but your
probably zoning question.

A Dell PowerEdge 2850 server is used for the new ESXi server, but it does not support the 64-bit VM.
I can't believe it.
When I start up a virtual computer, it gives a wrong message shown in the picture below.
Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Usually not enabled virtualization technology in host BIOS.

Hello
I have a new ESXi 4 install. It gets a successful DHCP address and when I statically assign an IP address I can ping both addresses. However when I try to connect via http to get the client console it times out. I checked the IP settings and everything looks good. I replaced the physical layer and get the same results. I have renstalled and get the same results. When I run nmap against the machine, I get:

Wild guess - you have any intermediate router between you and this ESX host? That shows traceroute for you?

Measurement of voltage USB 6008 ranging from 1mV
Hi, I'm doing a supply at an angle for an amplifier using the USB-6008. The ranges I look are - 0.5 to 0.5 V and 0.5 to 2.5 V. To generate negative tensions, I use the + 2, 5V for a reading of differential voltage output as a 'ground '. Voltage measures have a delay that varies with the voltage, given this by drawing these variations and set the output to data acquisition there is still a 'noise' of +/-1 mv so that it is clear from this parcel of tension against the sample number:
It seems that at some point the values are being rounded up to the nearest millivolt. I need to get to a resolution of 0.5 mV for my device, it will be possible with the USB-6008?
The AO USB-600 x has a range from 0 to + 5 V and the 12-bit resolution. 5/4096 = 1.22 mV. Absolute precision is 7 mV typical and 36.4 mV maximum full scale. The noise of the AO is not specified.
If you measure the results with THE USB-6008, you have at least 0.5 mV, similar resolution system noise and absolute accuracy of 2.5 mV or more.
It's probably as good as you will get with the box USB-6008.

How can I stop technotronic tv ranging from vga to out of reach after windows has loaded?
VGA Out of range usually means that the display resolution is not properly set for television "limited." Demarrer start in safe mode, and then set the resolution to a lower setting.
