Re: Portege R600 - upgrade to hybrid SSD + Win7

The R600-4201 is _For far_ the best laptop computer I have ever owned or even seen, and I intend to keep it for as long as possible. I just bought a Seagate Momentus XT hybrid hard drive (SSD + magnetic) and Windows 7 Ultimate edition.

To support installation hardware and the operating system switching from XP to W7, I will have redundant (more local cloud) perfect backups of data files to e-mail, data files, passwords, etc.

Can anyone here guide me more access to specific Toshiba updates, drivers, BIOS, etc., should be done? Further guidance or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!!

I think that this portable 2-book with the new operating system and hard drive will challenge anything on the market today. With radio offshore and with the Transflective screen, I get more of * WORK SIX HOURS * at the park or at the beach - there just isn't any better than that.

Hi dude

Thanks for the comments on the Portege R600.
I like this laptop. I wish that I would have enough money to buy this toy, but I have a u400. It of also great computer laptop not too big... the size of the screen is perfect because I travel a lot

By the way; You can find all the drivers (also for R600) here:

  • Portege R930 - upgrade the mSATA SSD succssfull

Just briefly, I wanted to report an SSD upgrade.

When I got my Portege R930 (PT331E, i7) two years ago, I changed the HD to a PRO 840 Samsung SSD 512 GB (big improvement). Now, this SSD is too small (photos!) and I wanted to increase the capacity up to 1 TB.

But instead of a new SATA, I decided to go for an mSATA + adapter SATA I felt an mSATA unit would be more "evolutionary" - next update of the laptop for me would be a Portege Z, who use mSATA.

So I bought a Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB with a Delock adapter/converter mSATA SSD, made a clone of the Apricorn cable and the software switched the SSD and everything works fine (actually a little faster )! At first I tried to use the clone with software from Samsungs migration but this didn t work, maybe I didn t the right version.

-Now I have a lager SSD that will live longer than my R930. Please note that I'm not an expert with computers - just a happy user Toshiba! Thanks for a good forum with my good ideas!

  • Portege Z30A - upgrade to larger SSDS

    Hello

Someone had problems, upgrade a Z30A a 256Gb SSD Toshiba mSATA towards a Crucial 512 GB version?

I'm using Acronis True Image disk cloning, but the new disc hangs with a second BSOD after signon screen display...

Believe me I tried every possible permutation of the process, including different cloning software, but cannot go beyond this problem, which begins to resemble a Toshiba problem rather than anything else.

    Hello

I have improved my Portege R600 - 13 X replace SSD HARD drive (Sandisk Ultra Plus / SATA 3.0)
This laptop has the Intel® GS45 Express chipset supporting should SATA 2.0, but I can't reach 1.5 Gb/s transfer rate. I've updated everything as I could, including the BIOS - that does not show even any option that would for example switching between modes SATA...

Is there anyone with a SSD R600 and get better results?
I only failed to update the chipset installation ends with an error and suggests that there is something not quite right

    Hello

Have you checked the BIOS for the SATA mode option settings?

Some BIOS supports a SATA mode: AHCI and compatible.
In case you want to use the SATA performance, you must use the AHCI parameter.

AFAIK the external eSATA port supports the 300 MB/s and in the BIOS must be set to serial ATA (default) port4.

The interface of the host load max 300 MB/s but sustained data read would be max 100 MB/s and 40 MB/s max sustained data write

We know if these have been fixed with the new BIOS updates? or is there a list of compatible drives?
Have a been a success with a particular model?

    Thanks for the help

    I agree with Akuma.
The use of SSD drive should not be a big problem.
If something does not work, try to update the firmware of SSD drive for the last s.
In most cases, this action has resolved most of the problems

Since the Portege R600 supports a SATA controller, the SSD drive should support the same standard of controller.

Good luck and thanks for sharing your experience after upgrading the SSD drive

  • Portege R600 - SSD Compatiability

Can someone confirm if OCZ, Kingston or SSD Transcend is compatiable with the Portege R600? I want to replace my main HARD with a 64/128 GB SDD drive.

It should not be a problem if you want to use the SSD with the right interface. You need a SATA SSD.

    Hello

    > is here a lot more suggestions in the forums that R600 does support SATA SSD

The Portégé R600 - 10 X was equipped with an SSD SATA drive so I put t understand why someone said that R600 does not support SSDS

Holders for laptop SATA interface that is why you must use SSD/HDD that supports the same SATA interface some if SSDS requires an update of the firmware, but it must be fitted by the manufacturers of SSDS

  • Portege R600 - 13 X - how to reinstall the operating system on the new HARD drive?

    Hello

I inherited a Portege R600 - 13 X of my colleague, who hit and killed the hard drive. I installed a new hard drive, but you don't have operating system installation diskettes as he said that the computer has not come with any. To make things even more difficult, I believe that the optical drive may not work. My old R500 had a dead optical drive and after I replaced it (he has not yet worked) I was told it is perhaps something to do with the ribbon cable, which piggy back off the coast of the SD card reader, then to the motherboard.

Anyway, is it possible for me to install Win 7 Professional (I have the original windows key) from a USB flash drive? Or y at - it a specific OS recovery/reinstallation disk that I can download Toshiba?

Any advice would be very welcome
    Thank you
    NJ

I have a Portege R600, and he has been a formidable workaholic, although now showing its age with newer software.

I think these machines came with pre-installed Vista and your friend must have created a set of recovery discs when they got off the machine.

Toshiba did release a drive to upgrade when Windows 7 is released which was available to the buyer within the free upgrade period you. You may be able to find a disk, but you will need the Win7 license to go with it.

If not, your only option is likely to be to buy a disk and license. Of course, you can find the specific Toshiba drivers are missing. If you think about it, it's extremely unlikely that you will be able to locate what is essentially a free Windows 7 download install disc.

Without an optical drive, you need to use an external USB drive and the BIOS to boot from that first force.

I hope that you have succeeded.

  • End 2011 15 "Macbook Pro SSD vs Hybrid SSD

    I have a MacBook Pro (15 inch, late 2011), 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 with a 750 GB SATA hard drive.

Since the upgrade to El Capitan (and I even thought of this way with Yosemite) my computer has SLOWED down considerably. Start-up time takes a few minutes and a few process kill me they are so slow. I work a lot with biomedical research, Adobe Lightroom and Illustrator software and is considering an upgrade for my Macbook Pro.

After reading about the upgrade to an SSD hard drive option, I came to a few questions:

Should I give up the optical drive and replace it with a SSD while also keeping my current hard drive? An SSD hard drive hybrid?

Is exchanging a better option than that on the current hard drive with an SSD or a hybrid?

The ultimate goal is SPEED. I store most of my pictures and research on storage cloud or servers to work as long I have 250 to 500 GB hard disk space (more we're crazy), I'm glad. It is the speed I'm after.

Upgrade memory would help me as well? What is worth?

    Thank you!

For speed - SSD hands down. Hybrid hard drives do not have enough RAM flash to have the kind of impact the performance as an SSD. My experience is that people swear that by or swear systems that replace the optical drive with another drive. Personally, I would go with the largest affordable SSD and operate as the 500 GB SSD prices fell so much last year.

  • Portege R600-10 q Finger Print Utility not recognizing not print

I have a laptop Portege R600-10 q, which has been upgraded to run Windows 7 Professional (32 bit) using the provided upgrade drives Toshiba.

Recently the digitization of finger printing became unreliable so I followed my usual practice and removed the old fingerprints and undertook a new analysis of my fingers.

I find that there are three required scans for each finger. When I scan the first two times the impression is immediately recognized and rated 'good '. However, the third attempt always fails and will scan up to 8 times, and then the treatment is finished. This happens, regardless, whose finger is involved, the computer restarts, run the utility as an administrator etc.

I uninstalled the utility of fingerprinting and reinstalled, but the same problem persists.

I would be the value of suggestions to get the fingerprint utility, works again.

    Andrew

    > I uninstalled the utility of fingerprinting and reinstalled, but the same problem persists.
Did you use the most recent finger printing software?
    Please do.

Please try the software of fingerprints for Portege R700.
New version that came out for Win 7 32 bit and 64 bit OS

PS; You must remove all fingerprints before installing the new version...

  • Portege R600 - the noise of the FAN

The system is a Portege R600-102.

When it was new, it was already noted that the CPU fan was unusually noisy when he started.

Fan and fan duct has been cleaned, no problem of dust.

You can reduce the activity fan and noise by changing the settings in energy of Toshiba.

I do the same on my laptop and now runs a lot quieter.

BTW: what operating system do you use?

  • No Audio or USB ports with Port Replicator 3 and Portege R600

I have a problem between my Port Replicator 3 (PA3681E-2PRP) and my Portege R600-13 X (Win7 Pro 32-bit). Everything has been working well for the past few months until a week ago. My PC has developed a problem then that plugged on the Port Replicator, it will not recognize something new that is connected to the USB (two PC & Replicator ones) ports, the Replicator audio output no longer works and the PC hangs during shutdown. Everything is OK with the PC when booted without the Replicator, but as soon as it is connected to the port replicator, in this case.

I tried looking for information about this problem, but nothing helps... Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated as it is to set up a business and I need it to work properly.

    A few things to try:

Reinstall the Toshiba Value Added Package.
Use system restore to restore Windows to a previous state.
Check the connector for docking station for damage.
Back up your data and perform the recovery.

If its still does not, then I would send the laptop and the Port Replicator Port for an ASP for repair.

  • Portege R600 and Windows 7

I installed Windows 7 (custom installation). Subsequently installed the Toshiba Setup program to load all the programs/drivers concerned. I have a problem with the screen, especially in Word 2003. That she will all suddenly, distort so that the words become faded/pointed/double, so that you can not read the display. A second open the document in Word will not be affected. Re-opening and closing the particular document clears the problem. The document is late and is not damaged.

Also found that sometimes when start up or wake up from hibernation, the machine hangs and looks like the fan is working overtime.
Nothing happen so unless I have a power to force down and restart.

Finally, the wheel on my mouse (latest Windows 7 drivers installed) will not work to resize a screen of Word and will not work in the folders pane in Outlook 2003.

    Any thoughts?

    See you soon
