  Yesterday, I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 DVD and did not install anything other than the minimum Lenovo drivers/packages to date (updated system from Lenovo and Lenovo Solution Center). Windows had a notification message that I had to install a driver for the Ricoh media player and its link took me to the download page for Lenovo 2.24.18.01 - what X 230 X 220 and I saw the 2.25.18.01 version too so that, on the contrary (if I was going to risk using the X 230 that I might as well use later).   I found the solution. The card reader did not have a drive letter with the disk management tool I put it to the letter h: in my case, and after that, it was finally visible and accessible in the Explorer. It need driver 8.1 however.

  We need a little more information to help you with your problem.  Did you successfully download the installation package and install, or do you mean that the number of downloaded files, and you cannot install it to start?

  If it has been installed, it did not affect a large number of your icons which aren't actually PDFs on the Adobe Reader icon?  That's why you get the error message "set associations".  I have included a link below to help the program associations and programs by default.

  If it is recognized in safe mode you should perform a clean boot to try and isolated the program that is causing the problem.

  Please don't be crazy on me, but why put just PSPA4E as description of the laptop model?
  If you see the Toshiba download page this info can be useful right on step 4 to choose the right laptop model.

  In any way, if you can't find it on the support page of Toshiba which means your laptop model is not supported for 64-bit operating system. Identify the sound card and try to find it on the manufacturers support page.

  I solved the problem.  I have checked the connections to the motherboard and swapped USB1 and USB2 connections.  When I reconnected it everything the computer would not start.  I disconnected the connections usb case before and tried and it worked.  It seems that one of the two connections business is bad and the card reader to stop working at the origin.

  The return of the story is this: my Dell Inspiron 546 recently dropped when the HARD drive failed terminally.  "Rather than replace the HD, I opted for the upgrade of ' with a refurbished desktop computer.  I'm done with a Dell Optiplex 760 MT, which I am very happy with.  He has a new 128 GB SSD mounted and I have a new 1 to Seagate Barracuda disk HARD ready to go in it, when I get a longer SATA data cable for it.

  In any case, I got a few pieces off the Inspiron to go in the Optiplex: memory card reader 2-4 GB of RAM, DVD - RW and media 3.5 "internal.  The RAM of works well (taking the system to a total of 6 GB).  The DVD - RW works fine (once I activated the SATA port in the BIOS).  However, the card reader does nothing.

  I plugged into a vacant USB connector on the motherboard, which has been marked something like "INT USB".  However, Windows doesn't see it, and it does not show in the Device Manager.  It's as if she is not there at all (no lights, nothing).

  This card reader worked fine on the Inspiron (which was an AMD Athlon 64 machine, but running Windows 7 it 32 b).

  Any ideas?  I had a glance through the BIOS and can't see anything obvious.  I assumed that being a USB device, it would just spring to life, but I do not.
