  • boot from the disk HARD second 4540 probook s

    Hello

I replaced the optical drive with a second HDD on 4540 ProBook s. I read of this 2nd HARD drive but I could not configure BIOS to boot from it, and boot device options lists only the first HARD drive.

It's pretty common. Simply because the BIOS is written to boot from an optical drive connected to this port does not mean that he will start on a hard drive. I don't think there's any way to boot from the hard drive adapter in the optical Bay.

  • Boot from an external HARD drive via USB

I have an 8200 Elite SFF and wants to start an alternative system (not Linux, but * NIX - like BONE) of a disk external DRIVE, connected via a USB port. My main operating system is WIN 7 64 bit, but for some special tasks I´d like to use the alternative OS. It worked without any problem on my two previous stand-alone - elected USB as a boot device in the BIOS boot menu and it starts fine.  However, on my Compaq 8200 there no USB option in the start menu. However, when I connect the external HARD drive to a USB port, the name of the HARD disk appears in the start menu, but again, it won't start him.  Have heard that there is a tweak to fix this, or maybe I m wrong. Alternatively, my stand-alone motherboard just can´t boot from an external hard drive via USB? Any ideas?

    Yes,

Unplug everything plugged to the computer except the keyboard, mouse and monitor.

Then use this method to Flash the BIOS.  It's the best way to go.

    USB Device Flash BIOS DOS

BACK Flash (DOSFlash.exe, FlshUefi.cpu) is the Flash BIOS DOS compatible system utility that can be used from a bootable BACK storage device (where the 'BACK' refers to a number of operating systems such as FreeDOS, DR - DOS or MS-DOS). FlshUefi.cpu is the driver required for DOSFlash.exe. To Flash the BIOS of the system to a bootable USB storage device, you'll need to copy the contents of the BACK Flash file on the USB device, start the PC from the USB device and run the DOSFlash application. To see a more complete description of the BACK flash utility, view DOSFlash.txt located in the folder BACK Flash. This folder also contains the required binary BIOS image.  The binary image file is named xxx_MMmm.bin , where "xxx" is the family of BIOS, 'MM' is the major version number and "mm" is the minor version number.  This file can be copied to the root directory of any removable media USB for use with F10 setup option «Flash system ROM»

The display of the folder BACK Flash content

The links on this post do not work. I copied the section from the BIOS flashing instructions for the specific section you need.

  • Vista boot from the external HARD drive when 7 is installed on the internal HARD disk

I had windows Vista pre-installed on my HP laptop, now I installed the new hard drive and downloaded windows 7 on it. and I use my drive HARD back as my external storage medium and it came with vista pre-installed. is it possible to start fromUSB and use vista alternately without remove current HDD with 7 and keep their replacement on a vice versa. I already changed the boot order, but it shows the blue screen and then goes out... help me if you think you have the solution for me...

    Hello

You can not install Windows vista on a USB hard drive. The reason is that manager (Bootmgr) boot will always be on the internal hard drive and will not read the USB drive letter properly and it continues to change.
However, you can install the two HDD internally, and then you can have a dual boot option by adding the entries in startup of the operating system Windows Vista, Startup Manager (boot mgr).

  • Of failure, white screen MacBook Pro HARD drive try to boot from the external HARD drive

    Hello

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro which is having some problems, I was able to fix them, but eventually the hard drive failed. I know that because at startup until it would have a white screen Uni (no logo) and you can hear a clicking on in the lower left corner. I thought initially it was a memory problem, but after opening and verification of memory, it's clearly the hard drive.

I solved this problem temporarily (until I can replace the HARD disk) by installing El captain on an external HARD disc and start from that. Here's the twist, I couldn't he can begin to El captain, I tried CMD + R, CMD + OPT + R, CMD + OPT + R + P and now shift. Everything that's happened would be that clicks would cease to release the keys.

I left the macbook on while I'm at work, when I got home it was on the screen to connect the external HARD drive.

I accidentally closed the macbook yesterday and again once when I tried to log on, I could not and I left it on a white screen while I was sleeping. There is a possibility that he may have launched from the HARD drive when I get home, but if not, is there something that escapes me to force do this?

    See you soon

Usually start up to a blank screen without the Apple Logo, may report one of the following:

    • Hardware failure
    • Boot drive is not recognized as valid and updated updated
    • OS X essential software is missing, hurt moved or renamed or corrupt
    • A firmware update is necessary

No matter who, in order to boot from an external drive "bootable", you would normally hold down the Option key until you get a screen that offers a number of devices to try to boot from.

Alternatively, you can try holding down the C key to try to boot from the external drive.

If none of these startup options work, then the bootable disc or the USB port on your MacBook Pro can be the question.

Since you have a Mac pre-2013, if you hold down the D key while booting, the built-in Apple Hardware Test should start up.  This can help to identify hardware problems.

I have a disk of Toshiba USB drive it does not recognize and I have a restore disc but I don't know how from there. Do I have to buy a CD external Toshiba and if so, which?
    Any useful suggestions?

    Hello

Boot from the external USB CD/DVD drive is not possible.
You will also be able to boot from USB HDD!

If you want to boot from the CD, you must use a compatible PCMCIA cards (16-bit and 32-bit Cardbus) CD/DVD drive.

    Hi @db69613,

Welcome to the HP forums! It's a great way to engage, ask questions and find resolutions by working with specialists from the community of HP. I'm just surprised at the levels of technical knowledge and technical skills that your possession. Hats off to you for this. It was very clever of you! It has been a privilege to have shared this platform with you and work with you.

First of all, programs of a different version or windows session will not work on another computer as it was installed on the computer of origin at this time. It is an installation and application software, to the difference of the data or information that is accessible by any computer when the hard drive is connected. It is because no software installation binds the application of this specific operating system installed on this specific to the time machine.

If the computer does not and the hard drive is accessible, all the content (such as music, photos, videos, and other information are accessible), but the programs have been installed originally are not available and will not work on any other computer when it is connected to the outside.

However, if the hard drive works fine, windows is correctly installed, then the same hard disk can be installed on another PC of office and some of the programs should work ideally.

I hope this helps! Please let me know how it goes. I really hope that the issue is fixed without hassle.

  • If I install 10.11.6 on my iMac I will be able to boot from an external hard drive with and OS earlier?

If I install 10.11.6 on my iMac (model identifier: iMac12, 2 name of the processor: Intel Core i5 speed processor: 3.1 GHz)

will I be able to boot from a drive external firewire with and the older operating system? Or El Capitan will not allow this as I said can occur. Can't risk a "pourrait".

    Thank you

There should be no problem. Your iMac is come with Snow Leopard as well as or any subsequent OS should work. Note however, that once started from SL, your interior with El Capitan would be is no longer recognized as a boot device in the preferences > startup disk because Snow Leopard does not have logical volume by car Group organization. You need to restart with the Option key pressed down, calling the Boot Manager.

If you have problems, you might consider to make the connection via the USB port.

I have PC (Windows7, SATA HDD, without CD/DVD drive), netbook and Toshiba External USB HDD 320 GB (MK3259GSX). Can I boot from the USB HDD? (to install OS or diagnostic tools like Memtest, MHDD etc..)

    I tried:
1 format USB HDD, create the FAT32 partition and make active, copy the files, for example, ISO image of Windows 7 (I also tried bootsect/nt60), but when I reboot and choose from the menu of boot USB HDD it stops after "Verifying DMI pool data".
2 Grub4dos (http://grub4dos.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page), but also had nothing after verifying DMI pool Data given.
    3. If you want to install Windows 7, I tried this tool, http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool, but it did not find my USB HDD.

    Sorry for my English.

Has your computer laptop USB boot option?

Anyway, is unclear to me that you can use this disk external DRIVE for the installation of the OS?

  • Pavilion p6 2408eb Desktop PC: cannot access the bios to boot from the disk

    Hello

I have virus and spyware on my PC. I want to reinstall my drive c with windows 7 instead of 8.1 or at least perform a system recovery, but I can't boot from the drive.

The only items on google I can find state I must disable secure boot and then enter the bios to set the boot order so it starts on the first disc.

The problem is that my monitor is idle (power light flashes) when I try to enter the BIOS. I tried to type esc/f11/f1 or press del to enter bios but my monitor then is idle and never enters the BIOS or go to the windows start screen. If it recognizes clearly that I typed bios key because he won't go to the windows startup screen after that pressing said key.

I also tried recovery windows and tool HP system recovery but at a certain point, it asks me to restart the pc and here again he is stuck at the idle monitor... I never see the start-up of the screen or the other, one that says "press x to enter the bios. My computer will always directly to the windows splash screen once I started.

Any idea what I might try next?

    Hello

Consult this publication article before attempting the downgrade of your PC to Windows 7. I have no recommemd making a downgrade on Windows 8 is superior to Windows 7.

The default settings for the BIOS of your PC 8 version are: inherited and secure boot disabled.

Erasing the CMOS memory will bring back the default values and then you should be able to start the Windows 7 installation media.

This similar model PC will have Windows 7 drivers.

If you have not created the external HP recovery media then you must order at HP if you decide to go back to Windows 8.

  • Can I set up my HP dv7-4165dx to boot from the second hard drive?

I got a HP dv7-4165dx for about 20 months now. Ten months in the original hard drive burned due to setting up directly under the GPU (lower left corner, to the left of the touchpad and under the keys), which gets quite hot on the top to make your uncomfortable hand. Symptoms include blue screens, troubled during start-ups, as well as a message from the system at boot that said the car was damaged. As it was under warranty, I brought it to Best Buy to get the drive replaced, which took about 2.5 months.

Now, about 20 months, I face at the beginning of the exact same symptoms. I noticed that there was a second HDD Bay, away from the GPU, so I bought the yarn necessary to the use of this Bay. Now, he tells me that there is no installed boot drive (the hard drive test in the system diagnostics, knows that it is there). I'm sure that I can swap the drive towards the original Bay and be fine but that puts me $ 75 for the HP kit (Yes, I know I might have to eat that, if there is no way), but much more importantly, this means that I will have an another burned (losing everything, even once) by car a month or two.

I looked, but I can't seem to find a way to tell it boot from that drive. Is it possible, or am I just out of the eye due to bad design? It has been a great machine, except for this problem.

    Hello

Unfortunately there is no option to boot from the HARD drive in the 2nd Bay in one of the series dv7 - sorry for the bad news.

  • Boot from the disk ESATA on the Qosmio F50 - 10Z

    Hello

is it possible to boot from an external drive using the ESATA port?
I have BIOS 1.60 installed but I don't see an option for ESATA?

    What a USB? Laptop is a Qosmio F50 - 10Z

    Thank you

I think that it of not possible to start from eSATA. The BIOS should provide this type of functionality.
I've never tried, but I think that's not possible.

As far as I know, it must be possible to boot from a USB device.
The BIOS does not support this then try it.

This question is not for the laptop manufacturer but for software producer.

If you have two partitions copy this image to the second partition (D) and check if it is not visible. I do the same with the Norton Ghost image creator.
