Recommendation for the configuration of the disk

Recommendation for the configuration of the disk:

A wide range of RAID 5 consisting of 8 x 146 GB drives?

Two arrayys of RAID 5 with 4 x 146 GB drives in each table one would be used for the data store, and the other would be usd to images of backup to it.  The idea here is that when we do backup via the script GhettoVCB/o would be mainly on the secondary RADIUS and not the main data store.   In my opinion?  I think I have the only RAID 5 Bay with all the readers of 8 x 146 GB for a data store single should surffice.   I don't think the performance problems will be that detrimental.

Do not hesitate to offer advice on scenarios, thank you

As written before, depends on the type of e/s.

With more than R and W low, RAID5 (on multiple disks) could be very good.

But don't forget to also use a global hot spare, degraded performance a RAID5 mode could be dramatic.

And don't forget that your controller has a battery backup.

If you really want to use it for installation, you will need to extract the driver from the VMware Tools ISO and add it to a disk image.

IPad disabled with thousands of pictures of children that are not backed up with iTunes or icloud. Recommendations for the recovery of photos please?

Sorry, but if your device is disabled and you have no backup, then you won't be able to save the data on the device:

    https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT204306

You should back up your device regularly to iCloud or import your photos to an application on your computer. Otherwise, you will be risking losing those photos. If your device has been lost, stolen, or crushed by your car, you'd be in the same situation. Really sorry for your photos.

  • Format recommended for the PDF author metadata

    Hello

I work as a librarian and I am responsible for the Department of the thesis of my University Library. These are filed and archived as PDF files. Some of them are available online, some are not.

I was told to systematically fill metadata "Title" and "Author" for each PDF deposited in our electronic despository.

My question has to do with metadata "author." Is there a structure recommended for her?

As it is I can think of a lot of different alternatives:

    First name last name

    LastName Firstname

    LastName, Firstname

    etc.

As a librarian, my instinct was to choose the name, first name format (used in the author/creator DC element, for example), but I realized that whenever I have saved the PDF file and then displays the part of metadata (via the shortcut Alt D), it would show "Lastname, Firstname" rather than the full name (for some unknown reason, adds Adobe Pro "" ""). After some tests, I came to the conclusion that the coma was the source of the problem. So I changed my mind and adopted the format Firstname Lastname , but I'm not sure that this is the best option.

So if I ask you a few questions, here they are:

-Which format do you recommend for the metadata of the author (if there is one)?

    -Why a coma generates ""?

Is there a specific separator character that I use when I need to fill two different names (if a given thesis has been written by two different people)? (this issue also applies to metadata "Key words")

Thanks for your patience and for your time,

    See you soon,.

    JHM

There are no rules in itself, but the XMP specification defines DC: creator as a ProperName field, which means it must be written in the way he would say - "John Smith" rather than "Smith, John". Finally, it is until you do with data - if your external search system to priority of family name, do it.

The fields on the tab of "description" of PDF Properties dialog comes from this Document information block in the standard PDF file, which is independent of the XMP metadata. Although these fields of DI are often people will look on, in a formal catalog system the XMP object has priority (indeed, in the ISO PDF/A standard that you are supposed to ignore completely DI fields).

Document Information fields are stored in the PDF file as strings rather than the XML entities. Commas would confuse the parser in thinking it was to see a table, so they will trigger Acrobat in order to encapsulate the entries between quotes. He will assume a comma and a single space are part of an individual term, if you want to create a list using the semicolons or several spaces between words. Senicolons conquer spaces:

    • Doe, John; Lord Lucan; Barney, the Purple dinosaur will be kept at the "Doe, John"; Lord Lucan; 'Barney, the Purple dinosaur'
    • Is no one, no one will be kept to the ', that is, not a "; person because the spacing is a term separator.

The important thing to remember is that the entrance of DC: creator XMP is updated whenever you change the author field of DI, but it does NOT follow the same rules. ProperNames XMP are OK with spaces but they don't like commas or semicolons - so the first example above appears in the tree view of XMP as

    1. DOE
    2. John
    3. Lord Lucan
    4. Barney
    5. Dinosaur
    6. the
    7. Purple

This reinforces the idea of using names as spoken. Lord Lucan has survived his trip to XMP, John Doe became two people. Barney is beyond hope. in many ways.

  • Any recommendations for the Configuration of my 801AP?

    All,

The configuration for my 801AP is attached.  I would like to hear all the recommendations that the forum members can have on my configuration because it is enough 'vanilla' such that it has been created from the GUI interface.

I would be grateful of any configuration suggestions relating to security, performance, signal strength, flexibility etc..  This 801AP is used in a domestic environment with consumer devices such as computers, iPhone/iPad, Nintendo Wii, PS2, drive DVD etc.

Thank you very much for your comments!

    Seems OK to me.

To make it difficult for anyone to guess what is your PSK make sure that mix you it with capital letters and numbers.

You can also put an ACL in your VTY to ensure that only people of a certain IP subnet (such as 192.168.1.0) can access your access point.

  • Recommendations for the Organization of the disk image?

I am moving in Aperture to LR and looking for general comments on the Organization of the image before you start the migration. Since the opening, I will export edited JPEG version final (with metadata), the image of origin (without metadata), which is usually a RAW or TIFF file. I want the original version, in the case where I want to re - edit in LR, while most of the images will never hit again. I intend to place the images in the folder structure as described below and use the import option 'Add' to keep the pictures in the files when importing to the RL. Records will be organized by "Year" with subfolders for files 'Final' and 'Original '. The hierarchy looks like this:

    Folder "Images".

    > file "1983".

    > File "final".

    > JPEG 1

    > JPEG 2

    > etc.

    > File "Original".

    > TIFF

    > TIFF 2

    > etc.

    > file '1984 '.

    > File "final".

    > JPEG 1

    > JPEG 2

    > etc.

    > File "Original".

    > TIFF 1

    > TIFF 2

    > etc.

This body will allow me to easily find the original file in case I needed to re - edit an image (the original and final images have different file names). Will there be a major drawback in the use of this method of organization? For example, it seems that the images can be stacked if they reside in different folders.  I thought 'stack' the original and final versions, but discarded the idea for other reasons. However, I'm not sure if I will create other problems by using a folder like this system.

Many of my images are scanned family photos dating back to 1880, kind of organization per year seems to be a good choice for me. I use keywords to group events in the year (1983, 1983 b, etc.). I'll create smart collections using keywords for the display, I don't need a folder structure based on events.

Otherwise, I could use the import options 'Copy' or 'Move' and let the LR to organize files. I don't know how the default LR organization works (in "import session or date?). I suspect that it is not simply place them in a single folder.

I appreciate all the thoughts about the proposed organization. I prefer to learn from mistakes of others rather than mine! It is quite possible that the good answer to my question is "it does not matter."

    Thanks David

In my opinion, the only thing that works reliably is a simple year-> Date structure. Another thing is just a waste of time and doesn't complicate your life. It is the structure that Lightroom does by default when importing. It is simply:

    2015

    2015-01-01

    2015 01-02

    etc.

This greatly simplifies organization because it is always consistent and allows you to easily backup or move folders to external hard drives if your a resident fills up too.

It is unnecessary to have initial and final records. You only need the originals. Any edited image, you need is exported a lot faster since Lightroom when you need so you can make the size and format you need, when you need and it is much easier to find the desired image in Lightroom quickly to scroll through the folders in the Finder Explorer / in any case. The key is really well-organized metadata as dj says. If you the keyword you can find something quickly. Finding accurate and such dates is also trivial using the filter bar.

That said, Lightroom doesn't really care how you organize your originals so do what best suits you.

  • Only 24 of 48 drives available for the disk pool

I have a MD3220 with a shelf of 1220 and I try to re - configure and create a pool of large disks with all 48 records.  When I go to create the disk pool, it only takes 24 14 to but shows 32 TB available disks.  I amazed the previous installation configuration because we had to take a tablet of 1220 from this table not used for another project, so now I'm back to reconfigure.  I wonder if the high-end features must be re-activated because I deleted the config.  Maybe, that's all.  When I go to md - storage.com to regenerate a key of course it doesn't have no idea what my system.  Is there something that I am missing.   Should be a two-minute task that will now take hours apparently.

    Hello Tradsd,

Ah, that's your problem. Yes two disks must be of the same size & speed, otherwise the pool will use the specifications of the smaller disks to build the pool. Yes, you can develop the direct pool you just need to get seen by MDSM readers and as long as they are showing that no, so you can assign them to a disk pool or group of disks that you want to. Here is a link to the Administrator's guide, and if you look at page 97 he explains about the readers with the same physical size. • Recommendation for the 3rd party utility for resizing

I need to resize the size of my VM.  I am using Windows XP Pro (SP3).  When I saw the KB for 'how to' that's all very clear.  The one hiccup, with XP I use a "third party utility to resize disk partitions", after the VM disk size has been increased. The note with this statement indicated that there are some free utilities for this process.

Since I'll only do it once, I would have preferred not to pay for the utility, if possible.  All of the recommendations - in particular as not to alter the quality of the 'free' choice?

    the gparted LiveCD should do.

If you boot in this LiveCD you MUST first change the type of the VM to Linix guestOS - if you forgot that the mouse will be unusable

don't use PartitionMagic - it's obsolete and dangerous IMHO

I realize that I can plug my Apple pencil in my iPad to load. In addition, provided with the Apple pencil is an adapter of lightning... I used this map of lightning with my Apple 5 watt power adapter and the light provided with my iPhone cable to recharge my pencil to Apple as well. I have not, however, used the lightning with my iPad Pro 12 watt adapter adaptor and cable lightning because I guess it will be dangerous for the pencil of Apple... Am I wrong? • Recommendations for the power supply of the inverter of supply for an iMac 27 "SSD (1 TB) 2015?

I heard that SSDS are vulnerable to data loss / corruption in irregular situation (surges, outages, etc.) and that a UPS is strongly recommended. No one knows what might work best for an iMac 27 "2015 (late) with 1 TB SSD? Amazon best sellers are quite disparate. No. 1 is perhaps not strong enough. N ° 4 seems not to have the OS X compatible software. Being new to this kind of material I don't know what to look for and what would be better for my machine.  It seems consume 240 W max.

In this regard: I read that store a SSD in hot weather can ruin the drive (or some dr. I considered turning off my computer when I'm away for the summer (in a non air-conditioned office which heat sometimes). I better let him run (sleeping)?

    Thanks in advance.

A UPS is recommended as soon as you have an irregular situation. It does not matter if you have a hard drive, SSD, or something else.

240W is the max for the whole iMac.

Not sure where you hear your horror stories about SSD.

  • Is there a way to identify the reason for the disk activity?

I am running Windows XP SP3. I often hear my hard drive makes a lot of disk activity as long as 20 minutes or more. No request probably appear in the Task Manager, and I don't think that the application using the more memory is necessarily the same responsible for application of the disk activity. I have not all the scheduled running backups, so this isn't the reason. Is there a software to help me identify what kind of reading/writing happens in the middle of this?

  • Recommendations for the resolution of the screen on the W510

    Hi people,

Recommendations on the resolution of the screen on the W510 - HD or HD +?

    And why?

    TIA,

    SD

It really depends on your use.  I went with the HD + (1600 x 900), because the graphics card is powerful enough run games of high quality on this resolution and it provides decent realestate to make programming and another office on productivity.  I tried a HD (1280 x 800) screen at work and it is very small and useless for real work, but if you are hard to see or don't use it to calculate the light, he would serve well.  The FHD (1900 x 1080) display provides a lot of realestate, if you can read the tiny text and do a lot of business development type and graphic design works, more multitouch features that can be intreguing there, but I think the screen is a little too big to play video games.  That's my thought.
