Reference Dell MD3000i add secondary RAID controller

I have a MD300i in the operation that runs in mode simplex with a controller.  I would like to add a second controller and change the duplex mode for redundancy configuration, and I don't know how to properly go to this topic.    I found some documents that says to slide partially the 2nd controller and run a SMcli command to switch to the duplex mode, followed by:

' Add a new connection from management to the MDSM with the following command:

SMcli 192.168.128.102-c ' setting ethernetPort [1] ipAddress = 10.37.121.54.

gatewayIPAddress 10.37.112.1 = subnetMask = 255.255.240.0 ";

Where the address IP 192.168.128.102 is the current IP address of the new controller, and 10.37.121.54 is the

desired address.

What happens if I do not know the address on the new controller?

I would be grateful any documentation or the help that could lead me to my solution.  Thank you for your time.

Chris

Hello Chris,

Here is a link to the document to upgrade your MD3000i on the way you will need to add the second controller. http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-md3000i_user's%20guide5_en-us.pdf

    Hello UtkinE,

Yes, you will need to stop all iSCSI traffic so that you can update the NVSRAM.  With the timeout error you get all came from controller 1 & he had only discs 1 & 5.  The current version of NVSRAM you version 4 and the last one which is for the MD3000i is version 13.  With who have older firmware it was improvements to correct your problem in the latest versions of firmware.  I also had one of our analysts will confirm as well just to make sure that it is the best fix for your problem.

  • Reference Dell 6850 don't RAID not installation

    Hello world

hope you might me able to help me, I recently acquired a dell server 6850, she has 1 x 73 GB scsi.

How to configure the computer bios so that she sees as a normal non-raid drive... This is not a production server just to test...

Once I have the bios set up, I guess that the Server 2008 r2 installation disk won't always see the drive and I have to load a driver... one that... because I think I've tried all the... a little at my wits end with it.

Just FYI, I am an experienced windows user and know my way around server operating system, but this is the first time I played with the server... its been quite a :) steep learning curve

    Thank you very much

    John

    Hello

If the optional components to enable the RAID feature are installed there should be an option in the system for embedded RAID controller BIOS. You can set this option in SCSI mode. Who will set the controller to operate as SCSI controller without RAID functionality.

The controller will use different drivers of the operating system and be detected by the operating system, differently depending on how it is. It will be presented as a PERC RAID mode. If the SCSI mode it will be presented as a SCSI controller. If you go to the download page for the 6850 and change the operating system to 2008R2, he will present what drivers are available for this OS. The section SCSI RAID a PERC drivers for 2008R2, but I do not show a SCSI driver in the section non RAID SCSI. 2008R2 should have a generic SCSI driver built into the taxi driver.

    Thank you

  • "Setup cannot find not all hard disks" on Dell PERC 6/1 RAID controller-supported?

Hi team - I have a Dell R710 (physical host) PE server that uses the Dell PERC RAID controller 6/1.  Windows Server 2008 x 64 is the host operating system.  VMW Server 2.02 installs and works very well, and I need to install W2K8 x 32 (guest) server configuration, but windows can't see the virtual disk with the same error "Setup cannot find not all hard disks", you get the installation on Windows XP Home edition- but the documentation does not say it's controller RAID is not taken in charge should be... any ideas?

This is not a problem of the underlying RAID/hardware controller.

Virtual MACHINE on VMware Server just to see the virtual hardware that you have configured when creating the virtual machine, or through the settings.

Be sure to select the correct target OS when you create a virtual machine. This configures the disk controller HARD virtual appropriate, which should be supported on the OS installation media.

If you have selected the right OS and still have problems, please post the vmx file.

  • Reference Dell MD3000i and vSphere 5.5

Actually I'm on vSphere 5.1. Running two servers of 5.1 on Dell R805 ESX and storage on a Dell MD3000i.

Did anyone out there running vSphere 5.5 in combination with a Dell MD3000i SAN?

Since the MD3000i is also not compatible with version 5.1 that I use.

We run from separate md3000i 2 with of Dell R710.  I ran on vsphere 5.0, 5.1 and 5.5.
The current host of 5.5 runs DR Veeam, so it has e/s of Veeam jobs but hosts only 2 running virtual machines.
We spend 2 hosts of production 5.5 soon, do not anticipate any problems.

Be sure to have the new firmware on the md3000i itself - the update of the firmware, I'm pretty sure that is very important for compatibility above 4.5.

Rumors that I've heard of compatibility have been on failover - I still need to test the failover using network cables and forcing a failover to ensure that vmware panic.

  • Reference Dell MD3000i - Contoller Module 1 Stopped working, I think that

I think that I lost my MD3000i Controller Module 1.  I'm not familiar with these devices and I donb't want to waste them.  I don't have spare parts.  Is it possible to see if I can get the Controller Module 1 working again?  The Module is NOT in offline mode.  I ping the outside management NIC of the band, but I can't view the IP information for Port 0 and Port 1 iSCSI network settings.

Module controller 0 is working right now, but without the controller 1 I lose redundancy.

    Thank you

PS - I have registered Support information but don't see nowhere here to tie it.

Sam - I was able to get the module working again yesterday.  I had to put offline, cut the power, unplug the chassis unit and disconnect the NIC after these actions, I have it plugged it all back in and brought online and was able to redistribute the readers.  Everything works well again.  Backup controller order has been placed.

    Thank you!

Yes, the H730 supports passthrough/no RAID and RAID.

  • RAID controller C - 220 M 3

    Hello

People of Cisco told me C - 220M 3 a compulsory bring a RAID inside controller if you are configuring a HARD drive... in fact dynamic Configuration tool will not let me set up a server of C220M3 with a HARD drive if I do not add a RAID controller. I'll try to find a technical explanation for this... I remember correctly, the old C - 200 M 2 can be configured with a HARD drive and without any controller RAID at all, and that is no problem.

    All the entries on that?

    Thank you

    Hi Dani,

You need something on the server to interact with the hard drives and one of the above storage controllers provides an interface for the server (motherboard) interact with hard drives.

  • PowerEdge R230 add RAID controller

Need advice: the goal is to add Dell PowerEdge RAID Controller H330 server Dell Poweredge R230.

Originally, the data connection is to the motherboard with a mini SAS connector, power cord is related to the Board of Directors itself as well go with a connector 6-pin. Given that the new RAID controller has a different SAS (SFF8644) mini connector, I can't use the original cable.

So try to solve that I bought 4 X SFF-8482 SAS a cable - Mini SAS SFF 8643. It would connect the RAID controller for readers. (THIS)

I also added a power cords: 4 Pin IDE power Molex 1 male to 3 x female Splitter & 2 x 4-pin Molex to 6-pin PCI-E adjust Power Supply Cable (THIS) and (THIS). It was supposed to feed readers - but is not and they won't turn on.

No idea why? Other ideas of ways to solve this problem?

    1. initially, I understood the topology based on the information on the user manual, see the attached figure describing Cabling two 3.5-inch hard drives 'to the PERC card. Isn't this relevant?

The information I had previously provided are based on the wiring of the Controller PERC H330 with basket 4 x 3.5 "which I assumed you had based on your notes. Thanks for your clarification and ignore these P/Ns. Here are the cables you need.

    • Signal and cable LED to P/N 6R7VT the H330 controller to connect to the motherboard
    • Cable SAS junction A H330 for 2 hard drives or optical drives, P/N TTN3V
    • Hard/optical drive power cable from the system board P/N N9P7R for 4 HD (shipped with your server. Use only 2 connectors) or P/N VXR2 for 2 hard drives.

  • PowerEdge 860 - PERC RAID controller compatibility

I would like to add RAID 1 functionality on a PowerEdge 860 server we have at the office.  I was unable to determine what is the Dell Reference number for the RAID controller for that server.

Is there a Dell RAID controller with BBU Cache memory which can support the PE860?   Would the PERC 5 / i raid controller work?  If so, what model number of Dell is compatible.  As the PE860 has long been considered his retirement there is nothing from the Dell Web site.  Searching the Web I found not less of 6 different numbers of parts Dell for a PERC 5 / i controller.

Thanks in advance if anyone can be useful.

    -Paolo

    Hello Paolo

    PF100
Is there a Dell RAID controller with BBU Cache memory which can support the PE860?

No, the only supported the internal RAID controller is the SAS 5/IR. The SAS 5/iR has no cache. The PERC 5 / I is not supported on the 860. The only controllers that contain cache are external controllers as the PERC 5/e.

You might be able to get a PERC 5 / i for work on the server, but we have not posted it to the 860. There is not many versions of the PERC 5 / i, which have been released, so I'm pretty confident that most or all of the part numbers you have found work. Whenever we change something on a part given a new part number. For example, if we decide to start using another antistatic bag to ship the PERC 5 / i in then we would give him a new part number.

You can see here the valid controllers. The 860 is displayed on the inheritance tab:

  • Reference Dell MD3200i correct editing with IP system and the NIC for faster network speeds

    Hi all

I worked on this project for a while now. I did a lot of research and have contacted Dell several times. I need help.

I have 2 sets of identical to use for Hyper-V clusters servers. We bought a Dell MD3200i in November, we also bought a Dell 5424 switch and a Cisco SLM2048 switch. These servers have Real Tek 2 network cards for iSCSI Jumbo frames is 9 k

The Dell MD3200i is two SAN controllers. Dell 5424 is the iSCSI optimized switch and Cisco is a 48 switch ports. iSCSI is on its own network that nothing else is connected to it. (There is an Iomega NAS and a promise Vtrak SAN Tech with all current domain of execution with iSCSI controller)

    Reference Dell MD3200i controller 0 Port 0 192.168.130.101 controller 1 Port 0 192.168.131.101

    Controller controller Port 2 0 192.168.130.103 1 2 192.168.131.103

    Controller controller Port 3 0 192.168.130.103 1-3 192.168.131.104

Cisco switch has 1 VLAN n ° 1 on it and the 130 subnet inside elements. There are 8 connections to the switch. 4 controller 0 and 1 of each of the servers. It has an IP of 192.168.132.4, but that switch IP does not make difference. Lighted Jumbo frames

Dell switch has 2 of #1 for various things such as the domain controller, Vtrack, and SIN. Subnet 2 is 131 and has a total of 8 connectors inside. 4 in 1 controller and 1 from each of the servers. Lighted Jumbo frames. The switch IP address is 192.168.132.2

Groups of servers. Each server node running Windows 2008 R2 SP1 and running hyper-v with virtual server clusters / storage folder on them. 2 Realtek NIC with Jumbo frames made 9 k ProdNode1 and ProdNode2 have 12 Core i7 CPU with 12 GB memory, EXNode1 and ExNode2 have 12 Core i7 CPU with 24 GB of memory.

    ProdNode1 iSCSI-1 192.168.130.110 ProdNode1 iSCSI-2 192.168.131.110

    ProdNode2 iSCSI-1 192.168.130.120 ProdNode2 iSCSI-2 192.168.131.120

    ExNode1 iSCSI-1 192.168.130.130 ExNode1 iSCSI-2 192.168.131.130

    ExNode2 iSCSI-1 192.168.130.140 ExNode2 iSCSI-2 192.168.131.140

Portal discovery iSCSI on ProdNode1 went to 192.168.130.110 192.168.130.101 and 192.168.131.110 192.168.131.101 each of the other servers Discovery Portal have been pairs like this.

iSCSI tab click on add 8 MPIO sessions at each of the ports on the MD3200i from Dell, target. For example, I added 1 session of 192.168.130.101 using it. Add Session,--> activate--> Advanced Mutlipath--> Local--> IP 192.168.130.110 initiator and target 192.168.131.101 iSCSI adapter. This is repeated on all servers. 4 connections for each NIC.

The network is very slow. It revolved around 2 to 4 MB/MIN and it should be much faster. Initially, we had only the Cisco switch with only 1 VLAN and everything connected directly to it. I read somewhere that MPIO has been the problem, so I went through the same configuration but does not verify the MPIO checkbox above. Once this has been done, the network speed went up to 1.5 GB/Min but modular storage Dell was not happy, and virtual servers would fail and the connection is not very stable.

What wrong with my setup? Can I directly home and fix the servers directly to the PowerVault and will make stable and allow for failover and redundancy NIC? I need to get this stable so I can move with something else.

    Thank you Ron
