Regarding the hosts took max supported on Vcenter Virtual Appliance 5.0

http://www.VMware.com/PDF/vsphere5/R50/vSphere-50-configuration-maximums.PDF

Maximum config guide indicates that vsphere 5.0 supports the hosts of 1000 per VC. The same applies to the virtual appliance thus (on an external Oracle DB... not the one internal)

Concerning

Girish

The same should apply to the device when you use an external database. But with several guests it would be wise to take the same settings with the Windows version of vCenter, which means increase the memory of tomcat and adding vCPUs additional and resources of the virtual machine RAM.

  • The host agent GBA support

What version of ACS that supported for the host agent (for example IP phone, printer, etc.)?

I have GBA v3.1, it is supported?

Is there a solution to authenticate devices by MAC address?

    Thank you

    AW

Configuring the host agent is supported in 4.2 and ACS version 4.0,4.1. Many guests who authenticates the ACS are running the agent software that requests access to network resources and receives approval from the ACS. However, some hosts are not the agent software running. ACS solves this problem by using the MAC address of the host device to identify and authenticate the host. This technique is called the authentication MAC (MAB) workaround.

  • Memory of the host indicated in vCOPS v vCenter

    Hello

One of the things that I find vCOPS is that a lot of things I thought I knew now goes out the window.

Before vCOPS, we relied on vCenter and when the host started to use memory 80 or 85% report that it was time to add more RAM.
It seemed that many people use this figure as a reference point.

vCenter reports now that my guests are sitting at 90 and I get the occasional alarm.
Normally I would have placed an order and more material. I have this presentation vCOPS VMware which tells me that some said vCenter is accurate.

vCOPS says (under Details > workload) that my workload memory resembles 32%.

Memory | Use meter displays the host memory as is vCenter but memory | demand is actually 32% of and this is the number I need.

On the one hand, it's cool that everything is green in vCops, on the other hand, I'm nervous because fibrotic vCenter.

I have to start ignoring vCenter, now that I have vCOPS running?

    See you soon

Well, I said that the issue of memory management is complicated.   We try to make easy to use Ops vC, but obviously some of the complications come through.

In any case, Yes, I think that it's ok to ignore what tells VC.  Since you are always run things a certain way according to VC, it is probably better to start overcommitting slowly.  (Evolutionary change is always better than revolutionary.)  But the general response is that Yes, VC alerts are generally much too conservative and aren't really take a variety of performance data into account.

  • Run the host ESX 4.1 in vCenter 5.0

Hello everyone, I have a simple question.   I am running 4.1 U1 ESX hosts and vCenter 4.1.  I need to upgrade to ESX 4.1 U2.   I know I need to improve my vCenter to match my version of ESX host, but I thought I killed a stone 2 strokes.   I have the license for vCenter and ESX 5.0 but I'm programmed to upgrade next year.   Given that I have to upgrade my vCenter anyway can I go to version 5.0 and run my ESX host on v 4.1 U1 without any loss of functionality?

I would like to upgrade everything at once, but the company needs me to complete the test first upgrade of the host is not an option at this time.

Thanks for your help with this.

    Hello

You shouldn't lose any features with what you described.  Remember however that in one year, you will still need to patch vCenter to upgrade to the latest version 5.x.

  • vSphere Client reports an incorrect version of vCenter Virtual Appliance

vSphere Client 5.5 reports incorrect version of vCenter 5.5 Virtual Appliance. For example, vCVA build is 1891314, but in vSphere Client 5.5 GUI shows like 1891313 or vCVA build is 2170515 (last U2a), but in vSphere Client 5.5 GUI shows as 2001466

I've updated the client to the latest version 1993072, but it made no difference.

  • vCenter virtual appliance Installation on shared storage

    Hello

I'll start testing virtualization soon, and for storage, I'll use a Synology NAS DS212j. My goal is to create a cluster with two servers ESXi, with the virtual machines stored on the NAS.

My question is should I plug my nas iSCSI on my ESXi and then deploy the model to the OVA of the appliance virtual vcenter or deploy the eggs on the physical storage of one of my ESXi and then I try it moved to the shared storage?

I'm not sure if my question is simple, but thank you for your answer!

    C. N.

    Happy, I can help you

You must configure the iSCSI conifguration for each host, Yes.

But the second and all other guests later then analyze the map iSCSI and see the VMFS data store that you created with the first host and set up automatically.

You don't need to add each host in the cluster even if. You only do that when you want to use functions such as HA and DRS on the hosts within the cluster.

  • ESXi4.1 - the host is not supported VT - i7 720Q

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my question.

This is a test environment, proof of concept, etc. We have an i7 720Q which is a hyperthreading processor. ESXi is installed in VMWare Workstation. ESXi processor is defined on Intel VT - x. I can't create 64-bit with vsphere hosts. I get the message "this virtual machine is configured for 64-bit operating systems. However, the 64-bit mode is not possible. This host does not VT support"I can run the 64-bit very well within VMWare Workstation operating system, just not in ESXi in workstation.

    Ideas?

    Thank you

    Chase

VT is a hardware device that is not passed through a virtual machine. Therefore, it is not possible to run the OS 64 - bit guest nested within your VM ESXi.

  • vCenter Virtual Appliance - deploy servers through templates

I have installed ESXi5 and I deployed the vCenter via the OVF. This forum works without any problem. However, I would like to clone a templete for future creations of VM virtual machine. However, I get the message warning 'customization windows resources are found on the server. On Server 2008 R2 I would just download the sysprep files relevant to the specified locations, however using the OVF I can't find the right place to put the files.

Please can someone advise the use of models and cloning in Version 5 of ESXi, when you use the vCenter via the OVF.

    Kind regards

    Skynite.

You must download the sysprep on the vCenter device files, the path is/etc/vmware-vpx/sysprep.

  • vCenter Virtual Appliance - Autodeploy Service Autostart

    Hello

I would like to that the Autodeploy vmWare service starts automatically when the VCSA Boote

I see a few services with chkconfig

    VMware-inventoryservice off
    VMware-netdumper on
    VMware-rbd-watchdog off
    VMware-sps off
    VMware-tools on
    VMware-vpxd on
    vSphere client on

but nothing explicitly referring to autodeploy

what one do I need to turn to get autodeploy to launch at startup?

    Thank you

VMware-rbd-watchdog is the deployment Service automatic (RBD means rule of a deployment) and that it is automatically the auto-start value, you just need to use the command chkconfig for service.

Run the following command and this will ensure that the service start automatically on startup

    vmware-rbd-watchdog on chkconfig

  • Update comments before the host tools

    Hello

Our backup software (TSM for EV) checks if the VMWare Guest tools are 'in progress', before you perform the backup of the application.

This means that when we improve a host for the new version, the backup of the application of all the virtual machines on the host will fail, until the tools are upgraded.

However, the cheque will go through if the comment tools version is newer than the version of the host.

    Then...

Is it possible to orchestrate the tools update to a newer version than the tools on the host?

(In addition to using a single host 'host jump' update for updates, and migration of virtual machines on that host one).

    Best regards

    Martin

Is it possible to orchestrate the tools update to a newer version than the tools on the host?

Yes, it's possible and fully supported to run versions of VMware Tools in the guests who are more recent than the ESXi host versions. For example, you can use the latest tools of U1 6.0 even on the hosts 5.x. see: product VMware interoperability matrices

To obtain and deploy the latest tools, you have a couple of different options available; you don't need to bother with a "host of jump' or whatever it is.

    1. just update the package tools-light of your guests, for example with MUV. This beautiful thing is this can be done online and requires no maintenance mode or a reboot of the host. Make sure that no virtual machine currently has VMware Tools mounted ISOs.

2 extract the ISOs tools the bundle version (patch) of target offline or installing ESXi ISO.

3 download https://packages.vmware.com/tools/esx/index.htmlTools packages. These correspond exactly to those of the packages included in the packages offline (patch) or installation ISOs. (Just get the .exe files big, no need to enter an ISO.)

4 download the new standalone version 10.x of the tools of:

    https://my.VMware.com/group/VMware/details?downloadGroup=VMTOOLS1005&ProductID=491

    http://pubs.VMware.com/Release_Notes/en/VMwareTools/1005/VMware-tools-1005-release-notes.html

Personally, I prefer not to bother with the ISOs editing or updating through the vSphere Client interfaces, but using an automated custom installation with the package of relevant tools like this:

C:\VMware-tools-9.4.12-2627939-x86_64.exe/v number! REINSTALLMODE = vomus ADDLOCAL = DELETE all the Audio, BootCamp, FileIntrospection, Hgfs, NetworkIntrospection, Unity REBOOT = ReallySuppress

This also some unnecessary components like unity, which are available on the position of work/Fusion/player, and eliminates a forced reboot.

  • VM disconnected after the failure of the host

    Hi all

We have a cluster host 2 and today one of our guests has failed. All virtual machines with success more to the other host except for our exchange server. The host showed as disconnected in vCenter.

The host was actually powered off (I'm talking to DELL). Is there ay way to determine why a VM would not switch to another host? I had to restart the host of the disconnected server to come online, even if she had made a stop forced down. The virtual machine in question is running Exchange 2010 and Windows Server 2012.

Any help would be greatly appreciated I would like to assure that all the virtual machines fail over correctly if this happens again.

    Thanks in advance!

    Lee

And one last thing for me,

Can you select your virtual machine, go to the tab "Task and Event", click on "Task" and take a screenshot. Then attach the screenshot here please.

Repeat this step with the tab 'event '.

    Thank you.

    Kind regards

    Julien.

  • Update of the utility in the Host Lock Mode

I try to use the utility to update on a server ESXi4 host. The Server Update utility is in locked mode, ask an admin account in order to scan/make the correction. Any ID I give him that I can't carry out the initial analysis.

Is the only way to patch this server fly locked mode? :/

    See you soon

Lock mode prevents direct access to the host. You must use vCenter to update or remove lockdown.

  • Is it possible I can get the virtual computer connectivity after restart to connect to the local network in the host operating system?

    Hi all

For some reason, I have to disable and then enable the LAN connection in the host operating system. If some virtual machines are running during this time, connectivity all VMs for out-of-world are lost, they cannot connect to the host even more (by running the ping command). I tried a few methods to retrieve the connectivity, but all have failed, for example,

    1. reboot the virtual computer

    2. restart VMware Workstation

    3. restart the corresponding system services in the host operating system

The only way I can retrieve all is to restart the host operating system itself.

Yes, is there short any path, I can retrieve the connectivity of these virtual machines?

    Thanks in advance.

Try installing a newer driver.  According to the site, you should be able to find a driver dated 2008 or 2007 (depending on which exact model of NetLink card you have):

1 came out of safe guard 360

Sometimes out of some firewall programs is not enough (they keep still themselves installed in the network of the host stack, even if they are 'closed').  You may need to uninstall to make sure that it is not interfere.  (Search the forums for support for your firewall software see if anyone else is having problems with vmware and 360 safe guard).

  • The host is licensed with VMware vSphere 5 Standard. The license of vCenter Server edition doesn't support VMware vSphere 5 Standard.

So I disconnected a host to vcenter server and now I get this error message when I try to reconnect to this host.  The host has been previously connected without any problem.  Vcenter servers as esxi are 5.5.0.  Anyone had any experience with this?

    Thank you.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you for sure why it worked previously. Maybe it worked with an earlier version, or hosts have been added while vCenter Server was still running in trial mode. Anyway, if you have a license of Essentials for vCenter Server, you must also license processors Essentials the Essentials version is sold as a kit.
