Reinstall Windows XP MCE fails, rejecting valid activation codes.

I found another detachment of last year with the same problem, and the only answer giving was basically "fugedaboutit, buy Windows 7.  It is not useful (but the question "is this useful" was only followed a button 'Yes', so I couldn't even press on 'no'!)

Elsewhere online, I found pages that indicate that the first disc of MCE is XP Pro, and that what is installed depends on the key entered when asked.  I have two keys to MCE (one of the sticker on the computer, another from an MSDN subscription (now expired, but the key was obtained while he was active)).  I want to install MCE MSDN discs, and yet the two keys are rejected as invalid.  An old Pro key I (also MSDN subscription) has been accepted... but everything installed was Pro (of course).  I paid for MCE.  I have what should be the valid keys to MCE.  I want to be able to reinstall MCE.   How can I do this?

As far as I know, all MCE2005 disks use the same set of keys (MS released a new slice of key for SP3, but I don't think that the ERM has been included in this).

This means that your problem is something else.

I guess you can't even to go as far as the second disc?

When you enter the key - is she refusing the key then and there, or not let you enter a character? If you can enter it OK, when the problem arises in the activation process?

If this is a problem with the activation of the process itself, then...

Background: I'm a college student, HE takes classes and we need to install a lot of software intensive resources. I usually reinstall Windows every 4-6 months to "Start fresh" I noticed increased performance and install only necessary software. It's up to the activations MAK is expected.

I have already watched the video below on VAMT 2.0 before posting:

  • Windows KB2393802 update fails with error 0X8007054F code

    OS is Win XP SP3

Looks like it was the first update of the usual pack that came out this week. It doesn't have the rest Pack updates succeeded.

FWIT previous update was installed on 12/01/2011 KB890830.

I rebooted, still failed. I tried to run the update directly from the windows update web page, same result. A Google search suggests that I'm not the only one to question.

If you are absent the Shell for Windows (KB2483187) and updates to the kernel (KB2393802) and yet the previous kernel update (KB2436673) and the two latest updates of the kernel (KB981852 & KB2479628) driver installed. I assume that the previous update of Windows Shell (KB2286198) is installed.

This suggests that you may have picked up an infection of W32/Alureon-varying rootkit since mid-December.

    Hello, Azam!
    Thanks for your quick response.
I found THE solution for my problem yesterday on answers.microsoft... (can not find the post yet, will try again later).
I had to stop the update service, delete all files and folders in c:/windows/C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and restart the Update Service. And Auntie... There it is! And running and arguing that there are updates important (at least) 66 in the meantime :-)

  • Windows 7 does not recognize the activation code

I have a PC brand new that came with Windows 7 64-bit preloaded. When I first pulled upward, the activation key was accepted without any problem. For various reasons, I decided to reload Windows 7 from scratch, made a mess of transferring old files in and reloaded Windows again. On the second charge, the activation key was not recognized and did not the product ID when I try to contact Microsoft online.

Because Microsoft recognize now the activation key, the automated service switch me to anyone, he just hangs up the call. I understand the problem may have arisen to reload the software twice and try to activate it three times in a short period of time, but it should not be a difficult problem to overcome. The software is authentic, and I'm not trying to use it on several computers. Anyone know who I can contact and how to solve this problem, as the toll free number UK is a dead-end.
