• TextEdit files corrupt

  New Mac Pro cylinder, Yosemite. When I open edit text and start typing, very often what I get on screen is a string of dollar signs. If I open an existing file, which may include the formatting - font sizes, colors, pasted in pictures - he often opens as single row after row of dollar signs. Or older paragraphs may be dollar signs, most recent may appear as in the format. Or vice versa. If I command-shift-T to remove the formatting, plain text is all there without foreign characters.

  21.5 computer desktop IMac 2.5 GHz 1333 MHz, mid 2011, 8 GB of Ram, Yosemite 10.10.5

  A group of zero byte, textedit.app documents files with unintelligible names recently appeared on my HD, and I have no idea how or why they are there. There has been no suspects downloads or shares, a sharing of files between computers at home that I personally manage, and everything seems to be in order, if not on this system. I ran EtreCheck and no adware or other problems seem to be a problem. I have included a screenshot of mysterious files and the Red element only noticed on the analysis of EtreCheck.  I assume that the files are harmless, but I would like ideas on their source and if they indicate damage or security problems.  Thank you.

  All these files have the same modification date, may 3, which suggests that it was only once. I suggest you remove them and do nothing else unless it happens again.

• Drag &amp; Drop of TextEdit.app and Preview.app not work - El Capitan

  I keep a shortcut to Textedit.app in my toolbar of Finder. This used to make the text of opening files in really easy: just drag and drop the icon. But this no longer works with El Capitan. Simply, it shows the icon "prohibited" and does not open the file.

  The same behavior occurs if I drag-and - drop to the TextEdit application in the Applications folder. Forbidden! Preview also suffers the same obstacle.

  Does anyone know how to re - enable drag-and - drop behavior for these applications?

  Why, El Capitan prohibits this action? It worked fine in all my previous versions of Mac OS x. (at least of the Tiger).

  I'm importing text (copy / paste) into a new document in Pages. There are commands of paragraph at the end of each line, visible by clicking Show invisible characters on the view tab. When I try to format the text, I get weird results as simple words on a line. If I remove the descendant 'P' at the end of each line manually, which solves the problem; everything is as it should be. I tried to use 'Find and replace' but it doesn't work because it removes all invisible characters so that you get a long sentence without a space between the words. I tried to use TextEdit to remove formatting controls unwanted, as found in another link, but that doesn't work anymore. Any suggestions on how to do to remove all "P"? I have a document of 50 pages to reformat, so doing this manually is nuts.

  When you copy text from? I guess that returns were inserted by an application of text at some point editor in the process. If you copy a text editor, you can find an arrangement that will toggle between having and not having returns at the end of each line. If so, set it to "off" before the selection and copy.

  Is it possible to distinguish these additional returns of those legitimate by looking at the characters that immediately precede and follow?

  Back at the end of a paragraph should immediately follow a sign of punctuation; period, question mark, or exclamation point and should be immediately followed by the first character of the next paragraph.

  End of line returns should not follow one of these brands, except when this brand (and the space after it) come too close to the maximum line length to fit the word following on the same line.

  If you're lucky, and the record was produced by someone not wise to (or not to trust of) the ability of the software to add a space after a point, you can see that two consecutive returns have been used (as I have in this post) to create this space.

  End of line returns should not follow one of these brands, except when this brand (and the space after it) come too close to the maximum line length to fit the word following on the same line.

  Knowledge of these patterns can give you a method three passes for the removal of these statements of additional income by using find/replace.

  On the first pass, MARK returns you want to keep.

  -If double returns have been used, use two returns as your search string and two markers as the same string replacement. The markers must be a pair of characters that do not appear or do not appear in pairs, in the document. ' # ' comes to mind.

  This first pass will replace all the feedback that you want to keep with "#" (preceded in the second method of punctuation that should also be kept).

  On the second pass, remove all the statements that have been left in the document. Find the string: return the replacement string: a single space.

  NOTE: This assumes that the end of the return line has replaced the space that normally elapses between the words, at this stage. If you have determined that there is a return of end of line AND a space between the word at the end of a line and beginning of the next line, leave the box replace empty.

  CAREFUL directions: understand the space, then see the fourth passage below.

  On the third pass, reinsert the required return. Search: # replace: return

  Note that if your first pass sought and kept a sign of punctuation, you do NOT want to restore it - there was kept in the first pass.

  Fourth optional phase: one of the things I've taught students when we started using processing in elementary school was never press the space bar twice in a row. You need a space between the words, no space between a Word and punctuation after the word and a space between the mark end of a sentence and the first word of the following sentence in the same paragraph. This pass of find/replace removes extra spaces using find: replace two spaces: a space.

  Repeat this step as many times as necessary (until find/replace reports "none found" or a similar message).

  This is how it works if you have iCloud drive lit for than TextEdit. You can go to the Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Drive - Options and remove the check mark in front of TextEdit it. After that open TextEdit will open directly to a new document. You will still be able to save a document to iCloud by car if you want.

• Dreamweaver 20141 remove lines of code on me

  I have a file (it's a file ft3/min, but I don't think that it is important) that when I opened in Dreamweaver it removes the tags on me.

  In particular (on random chance I might add) has removed a < / cfdocument > and < / cfif > tags.

  Always only once, and it seems to be in the same documents.

  If I open the same document in textedit, before opening in DreamWeaver, the code is there, but dreamweaver removes the tags, causing errors on subsequent pushes on the server.

  I vaguely remember having the issue in CS6 (I think, maybe even earlier).

  I can edit, add code to the document, difficulty missing tags and save and it's fine. But if I close and reopen, the tags will miss again (although my changes remain)

  Very frustrating to say the least.

  Did you code validation to ensure that the code is clean and free of errors?  When DW strips tags, it is usually in an attempt at reconciliation stray code somewhere.

  Someone here on the forums had previously helped me to get a button set up a form that would add an additional text field to a form.  I need now to a separate created button that will remove a text field in the case where too many have been added.  I hope someone can help me with this because my XML knowledge is virtually nil.  It's not like I can upload files to the forum here, so I'll try to paste my code.  I just need to get the "-" button to subtract a line.  Thanks in advance for the help.

• need stop synchronization before finishing to avoid ipod classic remove

  I've updated to itunes version 12.5.1, as well as Windows 10.  If I let my ipod classic finish syncing, everything on the ipod is removed.  So I have to restore the ipod in disk mode so that itunes recognizes the ipod and avoid itunes gel settings.  I found the only way to keep my music is to stop synchronization before it ends or the entire contents of the ipod is removed, and I'll have to go through the process of restoring ipod to factory settings again.  During synchronization, I disable the Windows 10 firewall and anti virus as Apple support told me that it could interfere with itunes.  What is - this with the finishing of sync that removes my ipod?

  It's weird...  Hard drive it is possible to the iPod becomes unreliable and is damaged during the synchronization process.  What happens if you set it up to only synchronize a small number of songs, instead of "all"?  For example, on the settings screen of music from iPod in iTunes, rather than choose to synchronize the entire musical library, choose the option to synchronize playlists, artists, albums, and genres, and select only a SINGLE album.  These songs always get deleted at the end of synchronization?

  So I tried to help my wife to free up space on his MacBook Pro by putting all of his photos on an external hard drive.   I've recently updated my OS to 10.12 Sierra and went to install Server.app. However, when trying to install Mac OS Server, I received the following message:

  ***? In what universe would be an acceptable solution? Now, the fact is that I probably had installed Server.app before on a very old version of Mac OS (not sure which) and just never bothered to upgrade during the last major revision of OS X or more.
