    1. click on the Start button

    2. click on accessories

  • Software Distribution Service 3.0. my wallpaper, all my documents, my videos, my photos, my desktop shortcuts, etc. all gone. has had to do a system restore. How can I avoid this in the future?

XP Professional 5.1.2600 Pack 3. Automatic updates are on. After that an automatic update on Mei and June 2012 identified as Software Distribution Service 3.0 my wallpaper, all my documents, my videos, my photos, my desktop shortcuts, etc. all gone. has had to do a system restore. How can I avoid this in the future?

Software distribution service 3.0 is a system restore point, not an update.

When an update is installed a SDS is created.

To check the name of the update, go to the Microsoft Update Web site and check your update history, search for the date, that the error occurred.

Also make sure that your system is clean:

Download, install, update and scan with these full free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/

    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

I guess 'Mei' is your abbreviation of Microsoft Security Essentials under your antivirus protection, is this correct?

  • How to uninstall software distribution service 3.0

HOW TO UNINSTALL software distribution service 3.0

    Why would you do that?

    You use Microsoft Security Essentials?

If you see Restore Points in your system restore calendar who say:

    Software Distribution Service 3.0

Restore Points see you who belong to the Distribution of software Service (SDS) and are created when Windows Update detects something to do.

Windows Update will download the updates in the folder c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution and once the download is complete, and at the start of the installation of updates (automatically or stop or manually - depending on your configuration) a new SDS Restore Point is automatically created before updates are installed.  After that the SDS Restore Point is created, then the updates are installed.  It works this way so you can still use a Restore Point to go back to a previous time before the updates were installed.

The updates could be the usual things like updates to security updates of the operating system XP, patch, or if you are running Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and it will update its definitions, you will see a restore SDS everytime MSE Point updates (because it is considered as an update from MS).

If you run MSE, you see a Restore Point of your configuration / SDS each day or more a day depending on suite how often updates come out.   The appearance of these SDS Restore Points can be worrying if you don't know what they mean, but you can always find what it means if one needs to solve a problem.

If you run MSE, expect to see the restoration of the SDS shows up every day or so and that, usually just means that your MSE got an update (not a problem).

Now do you really want to uninstall your SDS 3.0?

    Thank you

When you install Office 2010, Silverlight, Windows Live Essentials or Microsoft Security Essentials, you can make two changes:

1 Microsoft Update (vs Windows Update) becomes your update by default source (that is, if she had not already the default); [1] and...

2 automatic updates will reset the automatic configuration by default (that is, if one of the other options had been selected.)

[The above is specified in the EULA that you accept when you install one of the requests, but it is "buried" in the small print and difficult to anyone who bothers to read.]

Since you had MS Office 2010 installed for a while, chances are that Microsoft Update was already your default. So, it seems that #2 happened to you after you have installed Windows Live Mail (part of Windows Live Essentials) a few weeks ago (i.e. the or after 12 February).

If you have not already done so, do not hesitate to change your automatic updates affecting the 'download but do not automatically install... '. "option.

    ======================================================

[1] so that Windows Update provides updates specifically for Windows, Microsoft Update expands the service to download and install updates for other Microsoft software (MS Office 2010, Silverlight, Windows Live Essentials and Microsoft Security Essentials).

    Hello Laura,

Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Community.

According to the description of problem you downloaded Windows Update but not installed at the same time and want to install in the folder C:/Windows/Software Distribution.

I would like to inform you that the folder C:/Windows/Software Distribution just keep the entries in the updates that get downloaded or installed. We are not able to install the updates in this folder.

However, I suggest you to check the update history and see whether or not the updates to install. According to my experience, the knowledge and conclusions, I know that if updates downloaded but then installed it after the next reboot of the computer.

I suggest you return the item mentioned below and learn more about the Windows updates.

It helps those answering questions if you provide:

what version of windows (32-bit or 64-bit) and service pack level.

How many times are the restore points created? Restore points are created automatically every day, and just before the events significant system, such as installing a program or device driver. You can also create a manually restore point. http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/system-restore-frequently-asked-questions

System Restore is a handy feature, but it can take up to several gigabytes of hard drive space. You can reclaim space, but turn off the system restore, however, in doing so, you will be able to restore your computer to a point in time.

An alternative, or a middle, is to remove all restore points except the most recent. To achieve this in Vista:

Click Start, all programs, accessories, System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.

Click files from all users on this computer.

If you are prompted, click OK.

In the dialog box that appears, click the other Options tab.

In the section system restore and shadow copies, click Clean.

When you are prompted, click on delete.

    Click OK.

As a result, there will be more free space on hard drive.

Furthermore, to free up more space with Ccleaner, when disk cleanup is no longer enough

Download the version of base through the

    http://www.CCleaner.com/download/builds.aspx>

The basic version does not contain the toolbar disgusted

    3. are you able to install other updates successfully?

    4. What is the brand and model of the computer?

5 all the troubleshooting steps you have done?

    Method 1.

I suggest you follow the steps in this article.

    Method 2.

Clean boot : Try to set up your computer in a clean boot state and check if you are able to install the update. Tuning your system to start in mode minimum state helps to identify third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

    Note:

Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable the antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must activate it as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 3.

Warning of Security Scanner: there could be a loss of data while performing an analysis using the Microsoft safety scanner to eliminate viruses as appropriate. The virus scanner is provided so that the computer is virus-free before you start to install the updates.

    Method 4.

The system update tool scans inconsistencies in the computer where it is installed. It usually takes less than 15 minutes to run the scan. However, the tool might take much longer on some computers. Although the progress bar seems to stop, the analysis is still running and you should not cancel the update.

  • Way around being hung to one outlet during the update of Windows Vista Service Pack 2?

I have a problem, I have a laptop Toshiba where AC internal adapter is broken, it has been for some time - but my buddy has also a Toshiba laptop computer, where I can just return for batteries between the two and this system has worked fine just now, the problem - I could do my Windows updates business as usual until Service Pack 2 for Vista, it will not allow the installation of the update because my laptop is on battery.  Is there a way to get around this?  I have of course no way to connect to food unless it is repaired, and at this point I just prefer to get a new laptop that money put into this one - I'm hoping somewhere someone has suggestions! :(  Help!  Thank you!

    Hello Victoria MariaElena.

Unfortunately, there is not another way. Your laptop must be powered by the sector during the update to avoid the laptop shut down due to lack of battery power.

  • Game and the system hangs during the update of software occurs prompt

When you play many I experience a complete system failure after a game for a variable period.  I suspect that the problem might relate to the next available software updates and a quick occurring asking if I want to load/install the update.  I think that my PC is set to interrupt the game, when occurs a such prompt and I suspect that some games cannot manage this interruption and cause the crash.  Problem is that I can not find where swith this parameter to stop or INTERRUPT a game session when an update is available.  Update from Dell Support Center are an example of these software updates.  Any comments on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks - Kevin

Yes - you probably aren't going to find any setting specifically says: "I play a game, let me alone.»

I've been a player for 20 years and did not have the updates stop playing once (and some of them were worthy of the experiences of game marathon. 'ha').  Of course - about my gaming PC I always put updates to the manual because I know if I leave auto on (at least) most of the time Windows updates, it could decide to update and restart at any time (without some other parameters).

What I mean is that I think that looking in the right place, for the most part, to solve the problem you are experiencing.  Please follow the advice and at least update your video drivers (which is one of the largest components of the more modern games) and you can make the audio card motherboard chipset drivers while you're there.

"Dell" stuff - it is not necessary.  Really.
