replaceable drives a VMware ESXi host running hot?

In theory, it is completely safe delete a failing hard drive to a RAID 5 array that support the connection to hot. But is this supported in ESXi 4.1? Can I license the company to this supported?

I just need the assurance that it's safe swap a failed drive in a RAID 5 array on a physical server supported hot when it runs always ESXi 4.1 without having to shut it down.

Thank you!

Hello

Yes, it is safe to remove if your controller supports hot, your ESXi has nothing to support because your RAID controller is responsible to rebuild your RAID disk faulty no ESXi.

  • ESXi host running 6 VCSA disconnected from the vCenter

    Hi guys,.

I have a weird problem with my vCenter build 6. Single cluster of ESXi hosts. Running VCSA 6.0 and 6.0 ESXI. Making a storage of the vCenter vMotion initially got stuck at 77% and the ESXi host running the disconnected from vCenter vCenter. But I can connect directly to the ESXi host with vsphere client and see the vCenter VM works perfectly well. If I try to manually connect host ESXi and vCenter, I get the error "Failed to contact the host specified") both are in the same subnet and VLAN. I can migrate to other virtual machines without problem. I even restarted the host and yet I am not able to connect to vCenter. The host connects to vCenter if I reboot vCenter, but after a few minutes, disconnects again (even if no task does run on this topic.) I have no HA or DRS enabled at this point that I build this new environment and only presented a single LUN as a store of test data to the cluster.

    Any ideas?

OK, I think I fixed that or have at least a work around. So the underlying question was hiding ID mode/CPU EVC. I'm under the cluster to a level of EVC to reduce until I have migrate workloads from old environment and I think that this created a problem for the unit vCenter. To resolve this problem, I turned off the unit, directly connected to the ESXi host that had the camera running, edited the virtual machine and reset the masking of CPUID. Also, I've hidden the flag NX/XD of the guest. It's temporary (I hope) as once I increase the EVC to the Haswell, I will expose the NX/XD comments and test. For the moment, it is of the workaround I did. It may be of some use to someone.

  • Recently added that in environment VMware ESXi hosts do not appear

I'm running worm vFoglight 6.7. recently, I added 2 new 5.1 ESXi host and 2 data stores into my vsphere cluster. These new fabrics do not appear in vfoglight under dash VMware environment. I tried to update the server vCenter added by re activating the latter. Without success. Could someone help me how to get it to update.

Give a washer, they can probably find what is happening and turn it on.  It is very rare that I've ever seen an upgrade fails or not be able to recover the worst of him.

  • VMware ESXI host Client is not compatible with the Ipad

    Hi all

First of all I want to say that I am very happy with the introduction of the ESXI host Client, it's a very good start for not having a vSphere client to be installed.

One thing I was hoping too is compatible with mobile devices, for example, an IPad. Unfortunately this isn't the case. Not for IOS 8 or 9

I tried several browsers without a bit of luck.

    There are several problems;

    • The page is not scaling properly
    • The top bar is not visible, you can, for example, sign out
    • The Web page expands when you rotate the page on the iPad horizontally, not having not not able to see the Web page complete.

I found these problems in Tech Preview, build 2015.08.25.3015331 combined with ESXI 6 with the latest patch

    Kind regards

    Marcel

    Hi Marcel,.

Thanks for pointing out these problems. We have made a few improvements wrt. support iPad in the last version of the adventure. Could you update and let me know how it goes?

  • VMWare ESXi host AutoDeploy profile questions 5.1

    All,

Our Organization has just bought a UCS configuration, and we are working to build on the new system. I have scoured the internet looking for a potential solution, but have not found. We get the following operation:

    VM Auto deployment server

    ESXi PXE boot process

Set of rules that applies the profile of home on the connection with the vCenter

We are experiencing a problem where when a host is added to the vCenter, the location of the swap of our host profile file does not apply (the swap file is on a data store that is also configured in the profile of the host). In addition, the vNIC for our vSwitches configuration has two network adapters for standby on all 3 vSwitches. The configuration is the following: two vNIC by switch, the expected host profile configuration is set to active, active. Each vNIC for each vSwitch is on a separate side of the UCS fabric (a and b). Cards network to view DHCP addresses assigned in ranges appropriate for all configurations, but the vNIC is intelligence rather than active, active.

If more information would help to understand this issue, I am happy to provide.

    Thanks in advance.

    Apparently, it's a known issue:

  • The SSD drives on local ESXi hosts dilemma...

My company went ahead and installed the SSD drives locally in each HP Server, so this basically means I can't my hosts in cluster and enjoy the HA\DRS... in my view, correct environment vMotion?  I found a few links referring to this scenario, but it was not clear if the failover will work if one of my hosts breaks down?

I use them and set the swap file to be stored on the local host.  This save space you on your back-end SAN and reduced some IO.

If using local storage is important for your VDI sale, I would take a peek at Nutanix, which is a host ESX SAN in a (basically they use local storage and make it work like a San that rocks.)

I would hold these SSD at the moment, I do not know how CBRC will apply once VMware he applies fully.  If it works anything like Citrix Intellicache, then you could end by using these SSD as the volumes of local cache.  For now though I would not try and design their use.

  • Can not see 1 TB Sata Drive in VMWare ESXi 5.1

    Hello.

I have a HP ML350 G6 server which currently has two RAID 1 arrays. The first table consists of two 300 GIG forms large factor readers and the second table consists of two 450 GIG disks.

I just added a single SATA 1 TB drive on the server but I do not see it in my client of ESXi. Is what I'm trying to do possible? I can add a disk of 1 TB to this mixture, or maybe I need to delete one of the tables or in a control card memory cache? I'm working on a ML350 G8 at home and I have three paintings on it but not able to create the third table without a controller card cache for the controller smart array P420i. I wonder if this is the case here.

I have attached a screenshot of my storage and what I see when I try to add a data store.

    Am I missing something here?

Thanks for any help or comments.

Haven't you set up the new HARD drive on the RAID (e.g. as a JBOD) controller, which is presenting as a logical volume to ESXi?

Currently I see many MAC beat in the log of the switch.  From my understanding, I expect the MAC address out all ports, because that's what'd ESXi when you use 'route based on the hash of the IP.  I'm worried about the impact this might have on the CPU / switch.

  • Affinity reserve esxi hosts and host rules

I'm trying to reserve a few for some special VM ESXi hosts, I used affinity DRS rules to make the virtual machine to run on special guests, but other virtual machines are also coming on ESXi hosts reserved because of the DRS.

I have about 300 virtual machines running on 10 ESXi hosts running VMware 5.0 Update 2

Currently using Vcenter 5 Update 2

I have just installed 3 new hosts ESXi running the same VMware 5.0 Update 2

The new ESXi 3 hosts must be temporarily reserved for a project with 30 new VM only, but always be part of the main cluster because they will be used with the 300 existing virtual computer when the project is completed.

I have a rule configuration of affinity for the new virtual machine only works on the new ESX hosts

But the problem is that some of the other 300 vm get Vmotioned with DRS on the new hosts as they have a lot of free resources.

There are new virtual machine being added to the VM s 300 all the time by other people that I can't control.

I'm happy to manually add my special project of the virtual computer to the rule of the DRS of affinity for the reserved ESX hosts can not have "other persons" manually add the new virtual machine to another rule, should it be automatic for them.

I would like to set up a global rule to tell if you are not a virtual machine in my special project group DRS that you are not allowed to run on the 3 new ESX host.

Dose anyone know if this is possible?

Why not move the hosts in a cluster instead?

  • VMWare ESXi 4 or VMware vSphere 4 Essentials Bundle

    Hi all

We are size medium no criticism of business when it come to the

servers and COMPUTER service. We currently hold 10 physical servers in the future

will be placed on the virtual environment. We already have VMware ESXi 4 running that

    who currently hold 3 VMs.

We bought the very powerful server that can accommodate more than

    15 virtual machines.

    Specification of the server:

2 physical processors with 6 hearts

    16 GB memory

    2 TB internal hard drive

    4 * a gigabit network card

I'm not sure I should install VMware ESXi or pay a

version of VMware vSphere. The new server will be critical such as servers

Exchange, BES, Finance server. We do not want to spend more than £1000

License of VMware. VMware vSphere 4 Essentials Bundle responds to our

requirements and the budget. I was watching VCB guide and it is perhaps useful

but it took a lot of configuration, SAN/NAS and extra money (agents of)

    third party software to backup).

We have SIN, and it is connected to the network switch. Yes, I did

trying to backup to NAS (70 GB) and it took about 6 hours using FOSS Veem.

Should I go for free version or VMware vSphere 4 Essentials

    Bundle?

    Thank you

    > What benefits will I have more other free version VCB then?

Well well with VCB, you can make full backups of you vms, but you can also use with free ESXi as GHettoVCB free tools.

  • How can I move an ESXi host to another?

    Hello

I have 2 ESXi hosts running on similar hardware. SSH is enabled on both hosts. I need to move all the VMs from one host to another. What will be the most effective way to do it?

Most average effecitive: buy vSphere Essentials, configure vCenter, connect the two hosts, virtual machines turn off, do a right click and "migrate." 1 k$ for 3 hosts and vCenter.

Less effective, but cheaper way: turn off virtual machines, copy VMs to an another ESXi, search for all data, made store .vmx files right-click and "add to the inventory.

  • Renaming of ESXi hosts to vCloud 5.5 Hosting Manager

    Hello world

I wanted to know if anyone has experienced problems when you rename the hosts ESXi who is restoring the vCloud Director environment?

Our names for the Server naming convention has changed and it is now mandatory to rename all VMware ESXi hosts.

All the information/help will be very appreciated!

    Thank you

United Nations prepare a crowd of vCD, move it cluster at the data center level, then it reboot.  After that, do all your work in renaming (certs, hostname, IP address management, etc.).  Adding this back in is the reverse... put it in the cluster and prepare it to vCD.

  • How to span multiple LUNS on one (or less) data store (s) in Vmware ESXi 4.1 vSphere environment?

    Hey guys -.

I currently have 2 hosts ESXi (version 4.1u3), 1 vCenter Server and 1 EMC VNXe3300 SAN (20 to via iSCSI) that make my virtual environment.

On the EMC is, you create VMware Datastores (which have a limit of 2 TB) then connect these data storage to VMware ESXi hosts.  Once logged in, would continue it the process through the Add Storage Wizard via VMware to connect the disk/LUN storage via iSCSI.  Ultimately, the Lun (s) would then be accessed through the virtual environment (in the Configuration > storage > data warehouses) as generally expected.

Due to the limit of 2 TB (both on the CEM, Version of VMware and VMFS3) on data warehouses, I find myself with having several data warehouses being created on the side of the EMC and VMware (see photo) appearance.  I know that's not rectifiable via CEM level, but I was wondering if there was any way for me to bring together all these data stores on the side of things VMware.  This way rather than navigate to Configuration > storage > data warehouses and separate iSCSI indicator 6 data warehouses, it would just be a (or more, but less than the existing) data store; It would then extend in all actual data stores that I would.

I don't know what the appropriate terminology is used to describe it, but I hope someone can help me to what I want to achieve.  Or at the very least, can you please steer me in the right direction.  If this isn't something that can be achieved or it is discouraged, what are the other options which would be recommended?

    Thanks for the help.
