Replacement of ODD on Satellite P10

Hello

My UJ820B disc began to play up, which gives power calibration error reports. I recently bought a UJ830B to replace, but although physically identical, including the screw on the bezel, it does not read discs - CDs and DVDs.

It appears in the correct device manager as a UJ830S and as you can see in 'My computer' as a DVD player. When I put in a disk, the clicks in the car and I think that she strives to find. When I take the disc, it seems that the disc had been run.
The player flashes with the flashing icon on the pointer of the mouse [Win XP] but is only it works.

A rare opportunity when I put a DVD in the drive, the software WinDVD launched but that's it!
The BIOS is V1.6 [I have a version PSP16E of the P10].
A curiosity is that, during the "BIOS boot sequence diagnostic Phase there is no reference to the DVD player when the UJ830 is installed, but there is when the original UJ820 is installed..."

There are all sorts of subjects related to DVD and master/slave settings, firmware etc, but if XP is seeing the drive do not have jumped the barrier or things are not as they seem?
Any of you good people have ideas about what could be the problem? Your opinion would be very appreciated...

Thank you!

Hello

I read your ad very precisely and for me it seems to be a malfunction of the player.
You said that the power calibration error pops up this error appears only if the lens of the drive cannot be calibrated in the right position.

Hmm, I put t know where you bought the disc, but I think you should contact your dealer and replace it with another drive.

Good luck

  • Replacement of ODD on Satellite L30

    Hello
I have a laptop L30 (PSL 30) with a Mat * 770 UJDA DVDR / CDRW. Its an IDE drive. The CD player is not more open. LED on the dirve works and that the infromation system lists it as a defective drive.
I tried the usual opening PIN using a paper pin - which did not work. I guess that now that the drive is now a jammed and will need to be replaced.

    My questions:
    (1) I was wondering what is the procedure to replace the CD for a L30 player? It is the standard lock the appliance or is it necessary to open it with a screwdriver?

    (2) assuming that the current CD player is defective, I would replace the current drive with a DVD RW drive rather compatiable. Is this possible? If Yes, can someone let me know the compatible players? Can I upgrade the bios? or download drivers for replacement?

    Thank you very much!

    Hello

I have a L30 at home and the CD/DVD drive is fixed with a screw at the bottom of the unit. You will need to remove it to remove the CD/DVD drive.

Notes; not all CD/DVD drive are compatible because of the different master\slave\c-salt settings. If the STRANGE supports the wrong settings of the BIOS will not recognize the drive. And also update the BIOS could not help you!

So it is very important that you use the right CD/DVD player.
I think that the ASP in your country might help you. You can order this player that is compatible to your ASP usually guys order parts laptop direct from Toshiba

  • Replacing a graphics card on Satellite P10

I have a Satellite P10 554 for more than 2.5 years (warranty expired). But now the display start to Flash (sometimes some horizontal strips as refreshing disorders, sometimes turns completely black,...).

Meanwhile, the laptop is frozen until the view retrieves. After flashing several times, the screen can not recover more and sometimes restart the laptop (with sometimes after a blue screen of death). If I'm lucky so far, WXP tells me that an error related with the NVIDIA driver and switch to 800 x 600 resolution asking me to restart.
This usually happens sometime after Windows XP starts, usually at the age of 5 minutes. I did not notice any software related issue and he persisted after full format and reinstall Windows XP.

In addition, the most annoying part is that when I reboot after that, the screen is still bad for the Welcome startup screen (some horizontal strips down because it was a problem refreshing). To solve the problem, I let the laptop for at least 15 minutes. When I restart 'cold', the problem is repeated after some time.

My guess is that the graphics card is broken. My laptop is installed with a 64 MB NVIDIA FX Go5600. I updated all the drivers. The same problem also appears even if I use an external monitor or TV.

My question is if I can replace the graphics card. In the specifications of the laptop indicating that the graphics card uses a port AGP 8 x. Pourrais then replace the problematic graphics card?

    Thank you

UH... maybe the question was too complicated?

Is there a way that I replace a damaged nVidia FX Go5600 64 MB in a Toshiba P10-554?

I guess that it is integrated into the motherboard, but it does not check for myself.

  • Satellite P10-304: replacing a WLan card - can I the same WiFi chip?

    Hi all

got a satellite P10-304 of a companion here.
He said the free thread never worked on it and hes had it years and someone else has already looked at and changed the TNA wireless card.

Basically, she acts only as the wireless switch does not work and it remains permanently off the coast, although the drivers install correctly and map also shows ok. Simply disconnected.

Now, I thought, okay, I'll take a look because I'm pretty good on the old hardware. Has taken apart and this you know, switch has been bent and not up. I handed the place, checked the switch and stop positions with a multimeter to check the switch worked and he was doing his job perfectly.

    Now it still doesn't.
I guess it is now due to the fact that as I said, the map has been changed since its origin to a processor intel pro jobby.

My question is, I'm right, do I just need to get the same card that was originally in it. I assumed that when the switch is set correct return, that I solved it.

    Hello

The WiFi card must be activated bu switching the switch TO the position (the LED must illuminate) and in addition, you should choose the WLan antenna using the FN + F8 key combination.

    Please check this!

Notes; go to Device Manager-> properties-> Advanced tab Wlan card
There you can check if the WiFi is enabled as well.

  • Satellite P10 - sometimes it will not be running

    Hello

I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite P10 (bought in 2004).
Sometimes it will not be running (no air conditioning, no battery) and sometimes the "Shut down" - the dialogue appears as if I had pressed the power button (really, I have not). Then, he died instantly, and I can't turn it on. Rarely turns without touching the power button a few minutes later.

First, I assumed that the reason was the envelope, but recently the same problem appears despite the case open.

Finally, I think that the problem is caused by a defective power controller chip. So, I read that I could at least try it deflexing by a hairdryer. This is why I would like to know where the power controller chip is located on the motherboard and how do I recognize it.

    Thanks in advance!

[If your notebook won power t on sometimes you check out this article: what steps must be followed if your Toshiba laptop does not start? | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=21]

But I think that no one here can tell you where the power controller is replaced and if you can fix it yourself or not. Here he s only one user to user forum and if you have these technical questions should ask a technician for laptop (authorized service provider) for help. Guys have access to all the databases of Toshiba and can order spare parts Toshiba and it would be no problem for the guys to repair the device for you. ;)

  • Satellite P10-304-DVD-ROM/CD-RW questions!

    Hello world

I own one of the original computers Satellite P10-304, which has a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive. For these last months, we have one or two problems with that. It was a little skittish in which CD it reads, but in the last days he almost completely stopped read correctly (audio/data) CD / DVDs. He doesn't seem to know they are there. However, the Player opens and runs well, as if it were playing the CD, but nothing happens on the PC.

Curiously, I then looked on the list of the system, and the DVD-ROM/CD-RW driver had an excalamation mark. Even more curiously, the pilot was called TOSIICA! DWD something or other, when I'm sure it should have been DVD TOSHIBA etc.etc. Following the instructions, I uninstalled and then tried to reinstall, but it does not appear now when I try to add hardware.

    Confusing.

I would be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions?

    See you soon,.

    Ian.

    Hello

It looks like a car damage registry entry.
But that is only my suggestion. The other possibility is broken (lens calibration problem) by car.
You say that you have already removed the drive from the Device Manager, but the peut t OS recognizes the drive again. Well, in this case one of the possibilities is to use the System Restore tool or retrieve the device with the recovery CD.
But if the drive is broken recovery procedure doesn t help. In this case, only the replacement of the drive can solve this problem.

  • Satellite P10 804: how to remove the HARD drive?

I would like to remove the internal hard disk of 60 GB of my satellite P10 804 and replace it with a bigger drive, but cannot find a way to enter in the case of removing the HARD drive.

Does anyone have the details on how to do?

    Hello

To my knowledge, the HARD drive must be placed under the optical dirve.
To remove the HARD drive, first remove the battery and the optical drive, and then follow the steps below:

    1. remove the four black screws that anchor the shield of aluminum covering the HARD drive and pull it out.
    2. gently pull on the HARD drive the front panel of the computer to disconnect the system board, then pull it out.
    3. remove the four silver screws that attach the HARD drive to the HARD disk case.

But be careful. If you have no experience ask someone with more experience in these replacements.

  • Need drivers for Satellite P10-304

    Hi all

I was wandering if someone could point me in the right direction.

I bought a second hand satellite P10-304, had to replace the hard drive and operating system and now need drivers. Unfortunately the P10-304 model doesn't seem to be on the list of drivers.

If someone could let me know what letter it is or it is a pro, etc, I would be very grateful.

    Thanks in advance

    Steverino

    Hello

All drivers for older models of laptops you can find under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > support & downloads. But please, under product type choose ARCHIVE. In the lower corner you can find the label with the exact model number. This model number must be set to download under Model No short option page.

If you have any other questions please post again.

    Bye and good luck!

  • Sudden loss of power if it works on battery on Satellite P10

I have problems with the battery on my satellite P10. I can use the laptop very well when I'm on the current, but when I want to run on battery, it will last awhile (showing 100% decreasing slowly as usual) then will suddenly change to 5% and turn off due to the critical battery level.

    Can someone help me?

I wouldn't have thought, it's just a case of having to replace the battery, because he suddenly disappeared like this, it has not got gradually worse over time.

    Thank you

    Hello

How old is your battery and how many times have you loaded and unloaded battery?
Usually after one year or 500times charge/discharge, the battery slowly loses performance
In my opinion, it is simply a matter of battery and the battery must be replaced to solve this problem
Just contact the ASP in your country and order the new and compatible battery!

  • Satellite P10: Default at the disk - all solutions?

I had problems with my Satellite P10, with him taking ages to start, but now it will not go beyond the automatic test screen (where it shows the Toshiba logo). After that, she says that there is a potential flaw in the hard drive.

I ran through the laptop recovery disks but the same warning message appearing even though I deleted the hard drive...

I got a virus at some point, which could explain this...?

does anyone know what anyone else I can try? Or I'm going to purchase a new hard drive?

    Thanks for your help!

    [Edited by: admin]

    Hello

I don't think that the virus might damage the HARD disc. Of course, the data and files could be damage but not the surface of HDD or sectors. These issues may occur because of the long use of HARD drive. It just happens.
If you are a lucky man, then it might be possible to use software as a generator of HARD drive. Such request repair bad sectors on hard drive surface.
Perhaps it will help you save the HARD drive.

If this isn't the case, so I think you need to replace the HARD drive.

    Hello

I think that the PA3416U-1MPC should be compatible.
I mean the laptop supports wireless Mini-PCI network card and PA3416U-1MPC is a Mini-PCI wireless network card.

The WLan antenna behind the screen of the laptop computers must be connected to the connectors on the wireless Mini-PCI network card.
