Reportection SRM failed in a reverse replication

Hello

We have implemented VMware SRM 5.1 with HP EVA P6350 and continuous access. We managed our recovery plan Test between

two sites back and foam, everything went well. Our client requires us to make a hard Test! So we have shutdown-a-Site and start the recovery

Site-B process and everything worked well. When we tried to failback to Site A, we had an error in the process of Reportect:

«Error - cannot reverse the replication for the consistency group «...»» ». SRA command 'prepareReplication' failed for the consistency group. The fault of server 'ExtendedFault' was no message'

I checked the output of the command for any error and warning messages. But the views of command for both sites are Clean!

Can you help me solve the problem?

See you soon,.

NetRock

After 5 hours of struggling with the issue, finally I found the solution and the problem, it's ridiculous!

When you configure the DR group in HP Command View he will appoint the Original volumes and recovery with a same name and makes the scene.

My setup is as follows:

Site-a.

Picture of EVA: SiteA-Array

vDisk: HP-LUN01

Site-B

Picture of EVA: SiteB-Array

vDisk: HP-LUN01

The problem was namesake to the vDisks in the recovery and protected site!

Order prepareReverseReplication SRA may get confused and end if it detects two volumes with the same name and would not begin the inverted duplication.

So I have re-created the DR-groups and then rename the name of the vDisk in protected area. I added just basically '-Repl ' at the end of the name of vDisk.

And now the configuration looks like this:

Site-a.

Picture of EVA: SiteA-Array

vDisk: HP-LUN01

Site-B

Picture of EVA: SiteB-Array

vDisk: HP-LUN01-Repl

Hope it helps guys.

  • SRM using the issue of replication VRMS vSphere

    Hi guys,.

Basically normally when using vsphere replication, if you lose the VRM, then you cannot recover your virtual machines.

'With the VRMS device in offline mode, it is not possible to recover virtual machines with vSphere replication. There are some items of third person out there that suggest that it is possible to manually change the files to the target location that make up the replica and recover a virtual machine. "While this is possible, I do not recommend relying on this method of recovery, because it's a very manual process and, above all, not supported by VMware "

vSphere replication device failure and recovery prevention | VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

Am I right in thinking that when you use SRM with replication of vsphere, this isn't a problem that you can 'force' recovery with MRS... .where is it always going to be a problem?

This is a question published iI in Re: 1 primary replication running unit and 1 device running the module

    Cheers for the help guys!

As Martin mentioned in the other thread, VR (and SRM when using VR) require work VRMS at the location of the target/recovery. To clarify your statement, read: "when using vsphere replication, if you lose the VRMS on the site of your target/recovery , then you cannot recover your virtual machines.

With MRS is still a problem, but normally if your production site is affected it will not be an impact on VRM on the recovering site you will always be able to recover. Enforcement is where any operation is attempted on a protected site, so it's really for a different use case.

    Does that answer your question?

  • SRM - excluding the OS data replication store

    Hi people,

I had a requirement as one of the application to exclude OS data replication store after the initial replication of secondary site.

So first I want to know is it possible to exclude replication to secondary site data store BONES as VMware SRM (by SRA) control replication?

If it is possible is recommended to exclude the data replication OS store?

    NOTE:

Operating system data store will be later replication when some manual changes committed in the ms (as the update, changes in demand, etc.)

    Thanks in advance...

    Kind regards

    Hello

I had a requirement as one of the application to exclude OS data replication store after the initial replication of secondary site.

Are there other virtual machines on this data store that should be protected?

So first I want to know is it possible to exclude replication to secondary site data store BONES as VMware SRM (by SRA) control replication?

You must stop / cancel the configuration of the replication of the LUN manually on the storage array. SRM cannot 'see' that the LUNS are replicated and stop replication when you do a failover.

What you can do to protect that VM is to start the Wizard "To configure Protection" and on the storage options screen select the VMDK not replicated and mark it as detached. This will allow you to complete the wizard despite the disc not replicated VM. But consider only failover / recovery test, you will need to present the data store to the hosts and fix the OS VMDK on this virtual machine manually.

If it is possible is recommended to exclude the data replication OS store?

Of course, it cannot be a common recommendation. What about application settings / settings OS / event logs / other things? You want to replicate the data manually store whenever something is changed in the OS?

What is the specific reason to not replicate the BONES?

  • SRM and the volume of replication

    Hi guys,.

I have a client who seeks to implement the SRM.

Available to the virtual machines are as follows:

    • system on vmfs1 VMDK

    • VMDK vmfs2-data

    • Windows swap file on vmfs3

    • VM vswap files vmfs3

VMFS 1 & 2 are replicated but not 3. They tried to reduce the amount of unwanted changes block replicant.

Have I reason to say that they would have to replicate vmfs3 (even just once) to allow sucessfully SRM protect virtual machines?

Has anyone else came across such a configuration?

    Thank you

    Dougie

You don't need to reproduce your vmfs3 volume.

Just follow the procedure "avoiding replication of paging files and other transient data" of the SRM administration guide.

Machine configuration virtual swap sit on no replicated data store is pretty easy, but the swap file configuration is not that simple and requires several steps to be completed for each virtual machine, including cloning VMDK, the VM configuration, operating system setup and configuration of SRM.

  • POS Advanced reverse replication

I'm working on the set up of backups offsite replication advanced POS.  The camera source and target are both running 5.5.6.  The target device has the only license replication installed on it.  I have successfully implemented a test of a single virtual machine replication and restore this virtual machine to the offsite location.

POS local backups on the primary site go to a dedicated storage array.  Let's say that something is happening to the table and it is no longer available, but the rest of the environment is correct.  Is it possible to replicate backups of the external device to the target device?  I looked to see if I could set up a replication on the device off site job, but there is no client available on the selection screen.

Is not (yet) possible to re - duplicate backup data replicated - hopefully, that makes sense.

The key word in the sentence above is "(yet).

I guess that if you lose the table origin than the unit lit up VIENNA source, this means that the device COME source was also lost, which means that you would have nothing to replicate in any way until the storage is available on the source site and a new device of VIENNA is deployed.

A possible "Workaround": deploy a third device of VIENNA with a license of replication only on-site source of different storage, if they are available. Replicate data to backup of your primary device, fully licensed for two devices of VIENNA the and remote with replication only licenses. This 'different storage' could be something as simple as a large local hard drive to one of your hosts vSphere. Unit to COME would be bound to that host, but have a local copy of the replicated data backup would allow faster restores in this scenario (as opposed to restore the virtual machines on the remote target and then somehow putting these VMs on the source site, for example, vSphere replication).

The port is not correct, the port must be the RMI port, which by default is 11333

  • Celerra + SRM and Replication manager

Hi do anyone knows if its possible to integrate EMC replication manager a Celerra ISCSI / MRS. configuration?

Replication Manager / SE, I read integrates with Virtual Center, puts the virtual machines in snapshot mode (kind of like the fact of vcb) and then starts the replication to ensure that everything is in order, I also thought with the module for VMware tools with 3.5 update 2 part tools VSS should quiese SQL and make sure that its happy before the virtual machine put in snapshot mode.

I know with my current Celerra/SRM talks SRM server through the matrix of configuration manager and I expect actually has nothing to do with the real task of replication in celerra manager, im thinking it should be possible to use RM to kickoff between the Celerra replication and still have happy and work SRM.

I'm way off here?...  If someone knows the answer to this... Please let me know... It would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello

I write this as an EMC employee

«Replication Manager / SE, I read integrates with Virtual Center, puts the virtual machines in snapshot mode (a kind of like vcb) then launches the replication to ensure that everything is in order, I also thought with the VMware tools with 3.5 module update 2 part tools VSS should quiese SQL and make sure that its happy before the virtual machine put in snapshot mode.»

That's right – Replication Manager is able to do two things - integration with VMware Virtual Center to snapshots by car from Virtual Machines residing in a VMFS volume built on iSCSI.

Following the call in Virtual Center agent proxy Manager VMFS Replication called Celerra to take the local snapshot. This snapshot can then be mounted to another ESX for backup (if this ESX host is running version ESX console with a backup agent installed in this console - backups for flat file VMDK) or simply to allow the machine virtual administrator to navigate in the data store is presented as a wink on the recovery of ESX host to activate the Virtual Machine defined in full file recovery. The vocation of VMware SnapShot Manager provides a consistent point machine to return where the virtual machine recovery fails

Replication Manager can create replicas consistent application for such Applications a SQL and Oracle if these scores of applications based on VMFS volumes rather than posing as Raw Device Mappings. The caveat with this is that the volume presented to the Virtual Machine in question must be devoted to this Virtual Machine and a single VMDK file can be built on the VMFS volume) so you would need a volume for your logs, your database, etc. We call this use of replicas of "Virtual disk" case - confused I know

    So two use cases

VMFS machine restoration for a set of Virtual Machines and integrated individual application VMFS volume consistent replicas for specific virtual machines with their scores of applications built on individually provisioned VMFS volumes

I don't know why you want to use Replication Manager kickoff the SRM associated Celerra replication. the SRM model is basically continuous replication - i.e. an algorithm runs to determine to what extent the site of DR comes from the primary and push any data the differences across the wire. The bandwidth used for this can be strangled and demand

Replication Manager leads Celerra replication tends to be regular and non-continuous

With regard to your query on the integration of Replication Manager and SRM. I prefer to think to Replication manager and SRM for the moment be tolerant to each other. Replication Manager solutions I have just described are focused on the side backup and restoration of the entire equation of continuity of business and focused around that at the local level, so that the RS is more oriented toward the recovery room disaster

I don't see that going forward, there will be more integration and I hope that Replication Manager may in the future serve to ensure consistency of the request as a level of additional service in the comprehensive proposal of SRM

  • vSphere Replication options missing in 5.8.0.1 SRM

In my lab, I have the following Setup and can not get any vSphere replication to be available within the SRM options.  Single table according to replication is an option.  I looked and looked for a solution and we tried everything I could think to get the options will appear and I had no luck so far.

    vcenter1 - 5.5 U2 windows install

    esxi1 - 5.5

    SRM1 - MRS. 5.8.0.1 (install file 5.8.0 - 2336305)

    vR1 - vSphere replication 5.8.0.1

    vcenter2 - 5.5 U2 windows install

    esxi2 - 5.5

    SRM2 - MRS. 5.8.0.1 (install file 5.8.0 - 2336305)

    vR2 - vSphere replication 5.8.0.1

I started my lab tests by deploying the lefthand VSA with MRS.  Now, I'm moving on using SRM with replication of vSphere.  The steps I've taken since the tests on the left:

    Devices removed from Lefthand VSA

Uninstalled SRM and chose to clear the contents of the database also

Confirmed SRM is not displayed in the Web Client more

VSphere installed a replication on both sites or set to 1 VM - replication is complete

Installed SRM on the same servers as before and matching installation

Market thought the SRM configuration theres no reference and no vSphere replication option.  There's also no mention of any SRM integration when in vSphere replication interface.  Now I remember to deploy the same configuration in 5.1 which gave vR deployment options in RS, but that was then.  Now, says the documentation, you're supposed to first deploy vR, which set up and deploy the SRM.  SRM then detects vR installation and I guess that, in theory, these display options. I checked the permissions and everything seems good.  My lab account is the account I use to save and install everything.  Fine RV, by MRS replication pairs, they do not know that they could work together.  I even reinstalled SRM again and confirmed the installation files have been correct on the interoperability matrix and everything seems good.  MRS. acts just like theres nothing, but the options table replication.  I think theres a version special MRS or vSphere replication, which is necessary for the two to work together, but I can't find any documentation on this topic.

    Help, please.  Thank you!

    Joe

    Hello

Since 5.8 SRM and VR are decoupled. The only way to install vSphere replication is for download and by deploying the vSphere unit of replication.

Once you do this, you should be able to right click on a virtual machine, and then select Configure replication. When replication is set up for at least a virtual computer, you can include it in a group of Protection of SRM. You can do this by going to SRM UI, select "create Protection Group and selecting"vSphere replication"replication type.»

  • SAN replication vs VMware SRM on?

    Hello

I wonder when should we choose as VMware SRM on the owner SAN replication method?

for the moment, I see a plan of the DR site that would be well if my production environment data can be reproduced by the SAN in the DR site.

    Thank you

SRM is nice, because it gives you a a (wonderful) DR failover button

Of course, the disadvantage is the cost and the fact that once you have switched, you will need to reconfigure to backspace.

SAN is generally cheaper (because the assumption is that you should replication stoarge for SRM anyway), but requires scripts on measurement or manually export and import of virtual machines to operate. It's also a bit harder to work around the question if your VLAN don't is not strained between sites and if the INVESTIGATION period.

If you're used to the script thouhg, it shouldn't be a problem, so your decision simply come sdown to ease of use, cost and skills,

Personally, I scripted before and would take the same approach again (even if the SRM is a very good tool) - but I think it is different for a lot (more) like not everyone a) the script, b) trusts their scripts.

Finally, if you pay someone to adapt, it will be easier to understand what is happening with MRS with a bunch of custom scripts and SRM allows 'dummy runs', which scripts cannot do.

Good luck and post with your final word please.

  • Using NetApp SRA with vSphere SRM and suspension

    Hello!

My understanding is that SnapMirror is no suspension, so as a result, you will only get consistent backups fail?

My question is, when you use the NetApp storage replication adapter in Site Recovery Manager, you now get supported in standby, as MRS can work alongside the matrix to orchestrate the recovery correctly?

    See you soon,.

    Bilal

Necessary for suspension of application with NetApp NetApp SnapManager.

SRM does not add any capabilities of demand for NetApp mise en veille (or another provider of table). SRM monitoring, can trigger and in some cases reverse replication, but it is not change/impact how replication is running.

If you perform a scheduled migration (or a failover of DR and MRS can communicate with servers SRM & vCenter protected site), SRM will replicate storage, turn off the system VMs graciously and then happen again so it is not necessary in these cases of app-compatible replication.

    Does that answer your questions?

  • SRM Reprotect scenarios

Hi, ive done some research on SRM that we could implement in a few months.  Had questions about the part reportect of things and some scenarios.

With the release of SRM 5.1, it now allows reprotect when you use replication of Vsphere.  But from what ive read it only allows it if he were a planned migration not a disaster.  Not sure if this is true, if anyone knows?

So I was wondering what is happening in some scenarios.  All scenarios are with replication of Vsphere

Lets say the power outage on the main site.  We discover from the power company something bad has happened and power might be down for more than 24 hours.  They decide to use the DR site and switch to it.  Everything works very well after a bit of work, people are working from home or another location.

After 24 hours power returns to the other site.  We want the failback to the primary site.  So what is happening here.  If reprotect works then just restore us, but if reprotect only works in planned migration then we can just push the button to reprotect.

We must therefore create a recovery plan, return to the main site.  This part, I don't have a problem with until you get to the part where you want to use the vmdk files that are already on the main site.  But this raises questions

With Vsphere replication, there may be a delay of 15 minutes between the sites.  Which means the Main Sites (vmdk) virtual machine might have 15 minutes of data that has not been synchronized on the site of DR.  I don't like to get these data in only 15 minutes, but when I goto to reseed these vmdk files to different to use?

Basically im trying to avoid having to resynchronize the vmdk together via the wan connection, or else copy the VMDK on the site of Dr. and dissemination on say via USB drive and copy them to the main site then.  It would take to long (some disasters require it of course)

Is smart enough RS to just trash the last 15 minutes that does not get synced to the top and start to synchronize new data on the DR site?

If that's enough, smart whats a typical cut off the coast before its not able to do it, I can see situations with bad outages of the internet where users can continue to work for an hour or two before decide us actually tipping, in these cases is that long?

    I hope it made sense

    Thank you

    Mike

You can run 'Restore' operation after a recovery plan was complete. It does not matter that the stimulus plan was executed in planned Migration or recovery mode after a disaster. Usually planned migration is performed when the production and dr site are rising and running and there are some predicted the failure, while the disaster recovery mode is used in case of unexpected events.

When you configure the VM to be replicated with vSphere Repliacation, one of the parameters that you specify is the RPO (recovery point objective), it can very from 15 minutes to 24 hours. It's time that is acceptable for your company to have a loss of data. In your example, when you click Reprotect, SRM will reverse replication in the opposite direction and production of old VMS files vmdk will be the initial seed. This will cause the changes that have taken place on the site of DR since the event of failover to replicate in return. VR will conduct a parity check and will copy only the differences that occurred in activity on the DR site to the primary site of origin. You don't need to manually download files in the site Dr. back to the original site. Of couse, the more changes on these files on the site of Dr., data more than you need to synchronize again, but, again, it will be only the changed data, not the entire file.

  • Moving VMs to different vCenter using SRM + RecoverPoint

I need to spend 5 virtual machines to a different data center permenetly. The good news is these virtual machines are already protected by 3.4 SP1 RecoverPoint and Site Recovery Manager 5.0, because we already have replicate them I'm working on a way to swing these VMs, reverse the RecoverPoint replication and pretty much swap around, so they are replicated to the initial data center.

I just installed SRM 5.0 so we continue to use its latest features, but I assume that what I said above is actually possible? Perhaps he might not be as clean I hope, but at least I wouldn't be able to do the following? Keeping in mind, if this fails, we would just go back to how it was.

    1. run the failover plan that will recover virtual machines to the new data center

2 reverse replication in RecoverPoint, making the new primary data center

    Is this possible?

The old production VMs is converted into placeholder VMs. The point behind this conversion is that identity of the virtual machine does not change when you cycle complete (failover from A to B, Reprotect to B, B to A failover). It should all work modulo any RecoverPoint questions and / or ODA I mentioned. Incidentally I have never worked with RecoverPoint SRA, so that part is purely speculative.

  • 5.1.3 or 5.3 5.1 update view failed

    Hello

I have a functional vision 5.1.0 with about 1500 jobs.

I tried to upgrade to 5.3 and it failed. I reversed (snapshot) to 5.1.0 and tried to 5.1.3 and does not...

The page/admin does not work, 443 ports are not open.

    The services are started.

I have vCops to view installed 5.7

    any ideas?

    Here are a few logs.

As mentioned, it is a known problem with the vcops for the component view - while it is running, actively use the files that are part of the installation of server connection. 5.1 uninstallation, impossible to remove these files, time to remove on reboot. This is a known issue that we created a KB article for, you must stop the vcops service before the upgrade as a solution and we are planning to set the stopping service to vcops during the upgrade automatically in future releases it.

  • Uninstalled SRM. vCenter management VR error display Service status

    Hello

I've been trialing SRM and uninstalled.

I uninstalled SRM and also removed the replication apparatus that I deployed to it.

There is now an alert in vCenter Service status VR management is impossible to recover data on the health of https://ipaddress:5480/service/HMS/CGI/health.py

I did some research for the error and found people taking on this error and how to solve if SRM is still present by updating the thumbprint.

I have followed the steps in this Blog from VMware to locate the entry in the LDAP Server vCenter.

If I have more SRM installed, can I remove the many "CN = com.vmware.vcHms," all together? Or is it necessary for other things?

What cleanup steps should I follow to remove all the remains of MRS.?

    Thank you

    Trent

    Hello

Please see section vSphere vCenter Server if replication Unregister the device has been deleted in the documentation of VR.

    Kind regards
