Resize/merge/combine two hard drives into one?

Hi there, I was wondering if someone could help me. I created a new Member Server in Windows 2008 R2 with an original C: drive of 20 GB. Later, I had to install a program requiring 30 GB of space thus created a second disk on E: with 30 GB allocated to it. Unfortunately, the default program installation on the C: drive and ended up running out of free disk to continue. Given that both drives are separate disks but always virtual in nature is there a way to merge them into a single drive C: with a total of 50 GB of capacity?

I didn't know that the machine should be stopped to extend the drive. To extend is greyed out when stopping the VM, it's where I fell on my problem.

  • Create new virtual machine of the model that have two hard drives in the different data store

We do VM deploy automation with PowerCLI.

There is already a model created with at least two hard drives to one side and each hard drive belong to difference datastore,

In the model's operating system is Windows server 2008 R2 already installed VMware Tools and other software in the second (other than C: driver) driver

We can successfully deploy a new virtual machine with this manually with vSphere client model.

But when we try to make the deployment with PowerCLI, can not find examples of similar scripts in the document of reference,

and we also google this question, still no similar question was found.

Is this possible with PowerCLI? If it's possible could you give me some advice or an example of script, thank you!

    Best regards.

    I already found the solution.

With the vSphere SDK .NET API, we can create the new virtual machine to the model

  • How to merge the C: and D: drive into one?

I have a laptop replacement, once again and now I realize that when I install games, game files will be found in the c drive which is only 100 GB, while the D: drive is Go 930, it wont let me install more files as c drive is already full. Is there any method to merge the 2 drives into one?

    Andre_Castillo14
so I have to uninstall the game and reinstall on drive D:

    Right.

And to answer your original question... no way to "merge records". Especially not when they are 2 physical disks separated with a disk on each partition.

  • Partition of HARD drive into two parts

I just bought a new HP laptop and in his HARD drive just a disk Local (C). I want to partition HARD drive into two parts C and D. can I do this without formatting my PC. I have windows 7 ultimate on it. have a problem on this way?

    Help, please

a big thanks to all the world...

You can use the built in disk management in Windows to do.  Click Start-> Control Panel-> administrative tools-> management-> disk management computer.  Right click on the C: partition and click on reduce the volume.  Then right click on the space unallocated and create the new partition.

    Good luck.

  • How to set up two hard drives (but not three)

I just added a second hard drive (500 GB SATA).  It is currently empty.

My first hard drive any currently-operating system (XP), programs (including PE4), multimedia files, scratch your files, etc.  The first hard disk is about 200 GB with only about 22 GB free.  There are about 70 GB of various video media on the first hard drive.

I read a lot of stuff about the implementation of three or more hard drives (OS/programs on the media, on the other hand, scratch files on a third).

But I only have two disks and will not get a third for this machine.

What is the best thing (s) to pass to the second drive?  (Note that I would rather not move BONES).

Besides everything that I should get to the second drive, is there a mileage by moving or by simply reinstalling PE4 on the second disc (assuming this is possible)?

For the record, I'm not a guru of user or computer power.  I just went into the machine store and claimed a second drive.  I have no idea on RAID etc, but I guess they aren't any RAID or RAID 0 (don't know what I'm talking about).

    Thanks for all the ideas.

    Dave

Given your hardware, I would leave the OS (obviously) and all programs on your C:\ drive. I propose all the media project, files etc. to D:\, and assigning Scratch Disks even as project, keep on D:\ also. As to your swap file (virtual memory in Windows), I doubt that you would see good imporvement moving to D:\, but you might want to experiment with this. I would also like to experiment with it running with a defined size (about 2.5 x your physical RAM) and also let Windows manage dynamically. I create a project test for experiments and then do the same on this project with a clock at hand. You will probably find that there is little difference between the configurations, and if this is the case, then I would leave just the Page on C:\ file, where it is located now. Where people usually see a big difference it is with a RAID 0 two small, but very fast HDD or a smaller very fast HDD, just for the swap file. Even in this case, the increase in speed may be minimal and could not justify the cost of the addition, say a 10 000 rpm 160 GB SATAII HDD, just for that purpose.

With this third HDD in the example of the harm, the media would go on that, but in your case, I would move to D:\. The idea is to spread as much of the workload, as it is possible, as much physical HARD drive, as you have.

Also, by giving your programs and your operating system a little more "room for manoeuvre", will allow you to eliminate as many bottlenecks, you can.

RAID is either configured via software or hardware. They are a method of combining disks HARD physical in tables. If you have not done this physically, and with the two HARD drives you have, there is no real reason to do, you don't have to worry about this. Suggestions of harm to RAID are to the highest speed (and probably a redundancy built in), in particular with HD media. However, in order to offer their full potential, you need matching 3 physical HDD, or 2 at least. Again, in an ideal world, you use a RAID controller card and does NOT go with a stripped software RAID.

Good luck and you will not be sorry that you added the extra 500 GB. You should notice an increase in speed in many operations and probably more stability with the largest projects.

  • Satellite P300 with two hard drives

    Hi all

I have a Satellite P300 1 9, which seems to have two hard drives of 250 GB. A (Hitachi) is partitoned 'Vista C and E Data' and the other (Toshiba) is listed as drive had ' which is empty. If I right click on anything, say a document, and select ' send to ' I don't have the option to send to the D drive. How to store data on this drive?

    Thank you

    cheven.

If your laptop has two hard disks, it clearly appears in Windows Explorer.
The first HARD disk is divided into two partitions, and on the second partition, which belongs to the first HARD drive, you will see folder HDDRecovery (do not remove the second HARD drive).

Deleting files is the same as on the withdrawal between the two partitions. It is the WXP/Vista basic know-how.

  • Two hard drives - what to set the page file to?

I have two hard drives, Windows is installed on C:, what should I set my page of the settings file for better performance? Hard drive space is not a problem, I have a 250 GB and a 1 TB drive, both are less than half full. I have 3.25 GB of RAM DDR2.

I heard move the swap file on a second hard drive is beneficial, because the OS files and the page file could be consulted at the same time. Defining a very large page file or file page on both drives will hurt performance? What is a variable size compared to a matter of constant size?

It shouldn't be noticeable performance difference if the swap file is bigger than "necessary".

If your system can it take into account, it is considered generally to be a performance advantage to put the file on a different physical disk than the operating system is installed, provided the other player does not see many IO already.

By using a constant size / fixed can eliminate fragmentation of the file page that can occur if it is sized dynamically.

If you anticipate relying heavily on the swap file, maybe reconsider and add more RAM to the system, if possible, or upgrade to a 64-bit computer and the operating system that is able to handle more RAM.

  • I have two hard drives 500 GB & 250 GB, 500 GB was drive C:, the two had switched, how I safely switch back?

I can find two hard drives, but he did tell me that one is the 500 GB or 250 GB. Need to get my 500 to the C: drive.

If you start the computer (start-> computer), you can see the drives with their letters of player sizes and how much space is used.  If your computer is running however, I would recommend against trying to move the letters because it is likely to make your computer unusable.

    Good luck.

My computer with two hard drives and 2 starting systems has the car crash in the solid state. When I got the new drive and tried to restore from time capsule, I lost some data. How can I see what backups are on the time capsule? My laptop is also saved to the time capsule. Everything is in 'Data' when I look through the Airport utility. I think that the information that I've lost are still there since I was a Capsule 3 to.

Time Machine backup to a sparsebundle.

The sparsebundle will use the share name of computer. So, it should be obvious who is your Macbook and that is your Macpro.

Open the sparsebundle in Finder and keep open the subfolders until you get to the backup of each separate hard drive...

You has of course set the exclusion in Time Machine?

By default, Time Machine will exclude your second drive unless you have included it. Did you?

Once you get to this level during the backup, you can do a full restore manually whenever you want.

  • Can I use two hard drives in the Qosmio G40-10th

Anyone know if it is possible to install two hard drives in this laptop. I read simewhere that it had to be two slots hard drive in it?
If so where is it located?
Ther would be all issues around extra heat that could be generated etc.?

I have had mine for about 5/6 months and have had a screen replaced (defective backlight).
Many other people have had problems?

I wonder if its worth buy the extended warranty.

    See you soon.

    Hello

As far as I know this laptop takes support only a single HARD disk.
Check the underside of the laptop. Do you see a second slot (cover) the second HDD?
I imagine that it has a single HARD drive Bay, and so only a single HARD disk can be used.

I m not a G40 owner and, therefore, I cannot comment on any other issue.
But each computer technology may start to malfunction it is why I always recommend buying an extended warranty.

  • Laptop support two hard drives

    Hello

I am looking for a screen of 15.6 inches that supports two hard drives. Can someone point me to the laptop that support two hard disks? I'm more interested in HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC but any would do the trick. I am also looking for the laptop to have the full HD screen.

    Thank you

You can watch the DV7 if having two hard drives is important. The DV7 in laptop computers range has a 2nd HARD drive Bay, and I understand that the DV6, M6, G6, G7, and M7 have only 1 HARD drive Bay. If you buy a DV7 which is not customizable, or retailer, you can always install a 2nd HARD drive by buying the Parts HP hard drive hardware Kit and a HARD drive. HP has been portable computers shipping with Seagate hard drives, but WD, Western Digital, will also work. I recently updated my DV7-3165DX to 2 TB (1 TB WD Scorpio Blue SATA 2.5 in HDD + 1 TB WD Scorpio SATA 2.5 HARD drive in),

Look at these DV7. The quad core seemed to be the same price when customized at the same level.

  • IDE hard drive into a portable speaker access problem.

I got your desktop who died (power is not a replacement value).  I removed the two hard drives (IDE) and bought pens for use as portable hard drives.  I have not had any problems at all with the 'second' hard disk that I had originally put in place as a backup of data - music, photos, etc.  The problem I have is trying to access the old 'C' drive like a laptop.  I was hoping I could at least reformat and use it as additional storage.  I tried every possible rider but still cannot access this drive from my Vista laptop or my desktop XP.  The disc spins and it is "kind of recognized" by the host computer, but when I try to right click on it in "my computer" everything freezes.  I can still access it through the BACK.  I guess it has something to do with the fact that there is an operating system on the drive, but I was hoping that I could at least go enough to wipe.  Another strange thing is that when it is displayed in 'My computer' it appears as two disks-(that is to say E, F, or similar)

I could solve this problem.  Using disk management, I was able to reformat the drive, leaving a small 4 GB EISA partition, which I was able to remove by using DISKPART.  In retrospect, it is more work that it was worth for a small car, but I now have a 120 GB drive laptop that I can use for storage of photos or other.

  • If you have two hard drives, can you wipe the second and just use it as a storage device?

If you have two HARD drives in a PC Windows 7, can you remove everything (including the System 32, Windows users, literally everything) in the second and still use his computer? All my programs on the first HDD would remain on my PC, but all the files of the second being scratched? I'm running out of space on my first HARD drive and need to know if I can keep the second as storage just pure.

    Thank you.

    Hey Elliot,

Thanks for posting your query in the Microsoft Community Forums.

According to the description, it seems that you want to delete all the data on the secondary hard drive without affecting the first hard drive operating system files.

I'll be happy to help you with this.

If the operating system (Windows 7) is installed on the first hard drive, it has nothing to do with the second hard disk. You can go ahead and delete all data without hesitation.

Note: Make sure that you remove the data from the hard drive where Windows 7 is installed.

If you want to reduce the number of unnecessary files on your hard disk to free up disk space and help your computer run faster, use disk cleanup.

For more information, see the link.
