  • To use Robocopy to copy files, but you will notice that after the initial backup, it ignores the unchanged files, but I don't want it!

    Hello

I use robocopy in Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system.

    Here #1

I would like to use Robocopy to copy a disc (z) files on an external drive (f) and want to "full backup" every time regardless of whether the files have been modified.

    How do I do that?

I tried to use the command

    Robocopy z:\ketchup f:\ketchup/e

It works very well if there is nothing in this record, but once the initial order has been executed. It will skip all files of unchaged but I want yet it backs up to the top anyway.

    Want to #2

I would like also to add a unique name that includes the date and time I'm it backup (in essense a new backup folder name that contains the date and time).  Hoping to place it under scheduled tasks as soon as I get going.

  • Robocopy.exe

I'm looking for an easy way to make a copy of the file 'My Documents' as a backup of everything I don't want to lose.  I found, downloaded and installed the Windows Resource Kits.  After stumbling and trying to remember the old DOS command I finally could get "robocopy.exe" at work... except for the files I want to copy.  I always get the error "Invalid Parameter #3".  According to me, that he has something to do with the spaces, it the name of the source (Documents and Settings) directory.  When I ran "robocopy.exe" with names of directories source and destination without spaces, it works beautifully.

My batch file reads as follows:

    CD \program files\windows resource kits\tools
    Robocopy C:\documents and settings\bob F:\documents\bob/s

Place the path of the whole directory in double quotes:

  • Robocopy - invalid parameter

This is similar to the problem of spaces in filenames previously reported with robocopy.

I use robocopy to back up data from our e-mail application on a DVD + RW, except that in the repertoire of one of the other users is a bunch of JPEG files, some with spaces in their names, which (apparently), he put there to make it easier to copy to the e-mail application to send.

I thought I could get away with the help of a generic specification preceded a subfolder with the flag of the XF name to exclude these files from backup, but I got 'Invalid parameter #9' when I did.  Should be the generic specifications in quotation marks?

  • use robocopy with the switch /MIR safe?

    Hello

I use Robocopy to copy my phone book c:\users\username on a second hard drive (D :). No problem. But I also want the mirror of this second hard drive on a third drive hard (e). I have been using the /MIR copy/mirror hard drive D: E: switch.
We know that /MIR deletes several files from the disk of destination files (e: in this case) if they no longer exist on the source (d) drive.

But I recently saw somewhere on the internet, there are certain risks that /MIR can also remove some of the source files in certain circumstances. Scary!
Here is the exact quote (unfortunately I did not record the site it comes.)

Use /MIR with caution - it has the ability to delete a file from the source and destination, under certain conditions.

This happens usually if a file/folder in the destination has been removed, causing ROBOCOPY to mirror the source to the destination. As a result, the same files in the source folder are also deleted. To avoid this situation, never to delete all the files/folders on the destination - remove from the source and then run the backup to mirror the destination to the source.

If in doubt, do not use the MIR, but be aware that backups will take more time.

So I wonder if it's true and/or tailored to my needs.  The explanation above don't make much sense to me. For the moment, I have abandoned the /MIR switch and am just using the Robocopy command to copy the second HD in the third.

Thanks much for the thoughts or advice or links.

    Jack

The /MIR switch is NOT a two-way synchronization.  Right of the Microsoft documentation, it tells you/MIR/e + / purge.  It does not remove the source files.  The /MOV option removes the files from the source because you move them from the source to the destination.

The /mir option is equivalent to /e plus/purge with a small difference options in behavior:

    • With the /e plus/purge option, if the destination directory already exists, the destination directory security settings are not replaced.
    • With the /mir option, if the destination directory already exists, the security settings for destination directory are replaced.
  • ROBOCOPY can move files created yesterday to the target files and keep the folder tree and datetime attributes

I want to create a script to move the files created in the day before in a file archive (and subfolders) into a new target folder daily.  For example, whenever I run the below script 10/02/2015, I would move files created on 01/10/2015 and earlier source archives files to the destination folders, with the same folder structure and datetime preserved.  This is my 1st ROBOCOPY command in the script.

    % VarSourceArchives % varTargetArchivesFolder % Robocopy / MIR / COPYALL / DCOPY:T / MOV / MINING: 1

However, it doesn't move the files of more than 24 hours from when I run the script, rather than all the files created yesterday. Technically, he did what has been said, but not exactly I want.  It seems if you use /COPYALL switch, the switch / MINING: N compare file date & time stamp as file age exclusion, rather than just the number of exclusion of age days.

How can I achieve my goal to move files from a specified number of days while preserving the postmark date & time of folders and files?  Are there different ROBOCOPY switches to set, or if it is complex date and the calculation of leap year?

    Thank you

    Michael J.

Robocopy is a bit lacking in this regard. You can use the hybrid batch file below to reach your goal. Sets the attribute archive every file that was modified yesterday and it resets any other file attribute so that robocopy will only move the files of yesterday.

    off @echo
Set Source = folder Temp D:\My
the target folder = target value M:\My

    Set Scr="%temp%\TempVBS.vbs".
    (echo sPath = 'Source %'
    echo Set OFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.Filesystemobject"^)
    echo sYesterday = FormatDateTime (DateAdd ("d", Now (^),-1 ^), 2 ^)
    echo process feldspar
    echo Process(sP^) Sub
ECHO for each represented in oFSO.GetFolder(sp^). Files
    FormatDateTime(oFile.DateLastModified,2^) if echo = _ sYesterday
    the echo then oFile.Attributes = 32 _
    echo oFile.Attributes = 0 Else
    Following the echo
ECHO for each older in oFSO.GetFolder(sP^). Subfolders
    echo process oFolder.Path
    Following the echo
echo End Sub) > Scr %
    cscript //nologo % VCC
    del % VCC
    Robocopy /a /s /mov 'Source %' 'target percent '.

  • Robocopy hangs when you try to copy a file which in use

    Hello

I find that Robocopy hangs when you try to copy the file using, for example an Outlook .pst file. The behavior of Vista was not to copy the file according to the retry and wait switches from command line, which allowed the backup race move to the next file and finally finish. With Windows 7 the Robocopy session is suspended and resumes ever, even if the file she is trying to copy is closed.

Is this behavior under Robocopy in Windows 7? Is it possible to get Robocopy to move to the file according to when he's trying to copy a file that is in use?

    Thank you

    Jason.

"There is no need of me a pause in my script"-Yes, I understand [and should have done before].

    I just tested a network for the first time operation.  It hangs forever as your done even after I closed Outlook & waited for the w: 30 I put.  {I also ran with closed Outlook the first time just to make sure that the network itself had no problems}

I read that you have provided the link.  This suggests that there is no solution.

    - - - - - - -

You seem to be doing a lot more & probably more structured than mine operation, this workaround might not be of any use to you.  The other open files issue concerns a simple hourly backup of my kernel files that includes pst files.

1 I xcopy all the files in a folder internal InterimBackup first.  Can I use XCopy or RoboCopy to send InterimBackup to the real destination.

2 If Outlook is open then it will copy on InterimBackup and, if the previous Outlook.pst is still in InterimBackup she gets deleted by the attempt of xcopy.  [conclusion - XCopy verifies the existence of the replacement of a file, deletes it and only then discovered that the source file is locked and cannot be copied.]

    So I precede this with

    0 I run [if exists] copy D:\InterimBackup\Outlook.pst to D:\InterimBackup\Outlook2.pst

The result is that whole process always ends but it only includes the last Outlook.pst that was available.  So I always make a point of Outlook to quit at some point during the day so that he could take part in this backup.

If you have also tried this as a two part operation, your xcopy / robocopy in the folder InterimBackup would always succeed but would include only Outlook.pst if you had first closed the application.  Subsequent operation of RoboCopy would always succeed with the same possible omission.

The downside of this might not suit your overall goal.  You'd have to RoboCopy separately all your others folder trees but keep the Outlook.pst in a tree that has not been included.  You could do this either by restructuring of your data or using RoboCopy exclude switches for the file Outlook.pst file.

You have to accept that you might not be sure about the last time that the Outlook file had been included unless you had deliberately run the RoboCopy closing.

I have reviewed this improvement by using Task Scheduler to respond in the event of closing Outlook and use it to initiate the copy outlook.pst to InterimBackup, then by running the part of the main operation on RoboCopy to this folder.  But my needs are so simple that I've never felt it's the logs of the events that I would have to put in place.

As I say, it may not meet your needs.
