RoboHelp: Air, server, or?

I use Robohelp 8 HTML to create a Help Center for our call for various groups of the Center. I currently use the WebHelp output to a browser-based tool. The challenge facing us is a lot of feeback that "research is too hard" and our system is too complex.

I looked into the atmosphere, specifically using Air installed locally, as this would allow bookmarks to be defined by each user, and make comments. This may help the user to customize our system according to their needs and provide feedback. The challenge is that our content changes on a daily basis and it seems that pushing through updates isn't smooth as help browser based systems.

I'm looking to RoboHelp Server 8, and it seems that the report and the 'improvement loop"may help determine what content is frequently consulted. We looked to create small projects and deploy them to different groups instead of a company-wide support system.

mollyid wrote:

Indeed, the research is too hard. I used to have a similar setup and the situation with a call center that requires a quick (and easy) access to information on hundreds of different products. Indeed, if I offered him only to find they would have crucified me.

I came across this incredible technology that allowed them to type a few letters and instantly locate any information they wanted. And it was eons before AIR or Google or the RoboHelp w. server entered in the image.

I pushed too much content on a daily basis and my users like my system.

Oh, I guess you could ask you what I did to make this happen. Yes, this can be useful, huh?

I created something called Index and it filled with useful terms that makes sense for my users. Make an index correctly and teach your users how to use it. I guarantee you that it will outperform AIR or Google or RoboHelp Server on any day of the week.

  • RoboHelp AIR layouts with RoboHelp 7?

    I am designing a new system using RoboHelp 7 online help. As I started looking for RoboHelp 7 (I've not used since the X 5) I came across the AIR. I love the layouts and the user within the AIR interface feature. However, I need not characteristics of package installer that provides air. I want only the layout! Is is possible to import a schema of RoboHelp AIR in RoboHelp 7 HTML (perhaps with a personalized presentation of single Source?), without having to use the package/install Manager features?

    Welcome to our community, Ayanna

    I don't know which AIR skins you're enamored with, but you should know that there is no way to transfer them to RoboHelp 7 like a skin, you can use it. They are mutually exclusive. For anyone wondering, RoboHelp skin no matter what you use is not in the AIR application either.

  • Should I RoboHelp Server to publish RoboHelp WebHelp/WebHelp Pro?

    Hello

    I've used RoboHelp to create online help for a web application, many years ago. As I remember, it was very easy. My developers told me where to download the files, and I told them this file to reference from the web application.

    Now I'm in a different society and is about to start using RoboHelp to create an online help for a web application. I have RoboHelp, but I do not have RoboHelp Server. My developer is asking questions on the server and the license server. I don't remember ever having these concerns, the last time I've used RoboHelp, and now I'm confused.

    I think I have not has no need of RoboHelp Server the first time is because I have generated WebHelp and not of WebHelp Pro. Is this fair? And so I would need only RoboHelp Server if I wanted to generate WebHelp Pro?

    So if I have everything than the right, and if I want to just generate WebHelp, so what information should I provide my developer? I have not any information 'server and license server' to provide to him, right?

    And on the other hand, if we decided that we wanted to WebHelp Pro, it have to buy RoboHelp $999 server, is that correct?

    Your help is appreciated!

    In order to clarify the comment by Rick. You only need the RoboHelp Server to publish WebHelp Pro and FlashHelp Pro.

    Outputs 'Pro' are strictly for the extraordinary RoboHelp Server needs.

  • New to RoboHelp, what do I need?

    Hi people! My apologies if there might already be a discussion about this, but there are so many topics to cross I'll start my own thread for my business.

    I'm new to RoboHelp and I was given the task of helping a team of colleagues who will use the software for their project. We have 11 RoboHelp, and they released their project on their Intranet site for the public who are watching one a couple of years. The former team of support of RoboHelp being gone, they did not leave any type of documentation how they created this team, and now I'm starting from the ground up.

    So my questions are:

    1. What do I need other than RoboHelp HTML 11 to publish on their Intranet site once again?
    2. We have set up a VM for RoboHelp Server Help home their project (apart from the local files in their computer). Should we RoboHelp Server 9 for help with this company or another RoboHelp HTML 11 in this VM Server?
    3. How to publish on an Intranet site? Just pointing to the RoboHelp VM server will serve this purpose?
    4. What else am I missing?

    Thank you for the time in research on this question for me. Advice or recommendations are really appreciated.

    Leiza

    Hi Leiza,

    1. You need not what anyone else.
    2. RoboHelp server is to have welcomed the exit only. There is no need to use it. I am, however, not clear about how your server and local files are set up and work together. Normally, you work on a local version of the project. You store backups on the server.
    3. In RoboHelp, open the unique Layouts of Source pod. (View > pods > Single Source layouts). Find the output type you want to use (try WebHelp to start) and double-click on it. Then click on save and produce. This creates an output. You take this exit and post on the Intranet. If your VM server is also intended to accommodate aid as a web server, you can link your intranet. But if you, depends on what you're trying to reach.
    4. It's a difficult question to answer. I see you just yawn at this stage, but as I don't know what you're doing and how it is set up, I don't know that I can give you a valid answer.

    Have you considered a HR training course or get a book of introductory courses? Who will go on all the basics and will answer most of your questions. There are several books and courses online if you are interested. Some well known are the Rick Gooberguides and IconLogic books of course.

  • How can I call robohelp files from web pages

    Hi all

    Happy Monday. So I was responsible for getting our new MVC based Web site by using the new RoboHelp 9 server running. The server is all set to the top and the documents they wanted to bring more were returned. My question surrounds calling pages within the web site. Is building a URL, really all it takes? I read William van Weeldens site and the grainge.org site and seemingly everything else. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    A URL is all you need. Who or that of the provided API (which built a URL for you in the required cables.)

  • Any way to link between the projects merged on HR server?

    Hello. Me once again.

    Is it possible to maintain links between the pages of different projects merged to the HR server?

    Clarify, consider the gross example of presentation of the projects merged in HR server. Say that the authors of the projects have an agreement that project names (for example, "output of the second project") and the first ('welcome') subject will have static names. Is there a way to, for example to create a link in the Welcome th pagee first output of the project , which opens the page home of the second output of the project? If so, please suggest the correct syntax.

    Note: I found that do a right click on a navigation item, copy the link, then paste the link in the address line of the browser, then the project that contains the link opens outside the context of the environment have been merged. Only clean the project navigation is displayed.

    Thanks in advance.

    ... If you take this copied link and use it as a the hyperlink address, instead of in the address line of the browser and navigation to him directly, just copy the link DOES not work. For example, the hyperlink works for the original query:

  • What combination of server is the best?

    Initially when we installed the RoboHelp Server (Version 9), we have set up in what seemed to be the easiest and most relevant: IIS7 pointing to the Tomcat application as described in the installation guide. It was logical, given that the company uses for most Microsoft products.

    However, I realized that integration between IIS and tomcat is far from perfect. For example, I could never get the URL "showcase" for work, as an attempt to make the URL rewriting to fail. It is because they are not 'the same server', I do not understand. Yesterday, I tried messing around with getting custom 404 pages because I want to get a notification under a certain form of work whenever a page is not found (for now, it's usually because we are re-writing of our software from scratch and documentation suffer the same fate, so some pages only have not been yet written). This doesn't seem to work although I followed the tutorials customerror IIS to the letter.

    So what I am, it's... I was wondering is there a better combination? Since Tomcat is maintained by Apache, would it be better to use the web server Apache itself? Or perhaps not using an external web server at all and only use Tomcat - after all, this server is 100% dedicated to the documentation, there is nothing else on this at all.

    My requirements are:

    -Must continue to serve our existing 'static' documentation in HTML and PDF formats

    -Must support rewritten URL (we have many of them, redirecting users of documentation not translated to the English language, rewriting for 'global' style sheets, etc.), especially to make pretty URLs of documentation (rewrite of help.mycompany.com/en/software-name/installing-software.html to help.mycompany.com/robohelp/robo/server/en/projects/software-name/Default.html#installing-software.html, without the user to see the latter in its address bar)

    -Must support the custom error handling. I'm admin, I don't know JSP more than I know ASPX if I prefer if I could use PHP to do this, but I can read tutorials... as long as they work for this configuration.

    -Must run on Windows.

    Help, please?

    We have always used Apache as web server Tomcat and have not encountered the problems you describe. This combination caused no undue problems for us. What I would say, is trying to get another server that you could install RHS9 on with Apache and Tomcat and publish some of your help to test your needs.

  • Is the workhorse HR server?

    The more I read HR table of contents, Index, glossary creation and (especially) the ability to search all html webhelp files.
    I have to wonder - whence all this power? To obtain this robust search functionality (and the creation of glossary, Index and table of contents) must I HR server too?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello. No you need not RoboHelp Server to get any of this 'power '. It is only necessary if you want to deploy you helps a server for your users to access AND run various reports on what they use, research, etc. If you want all this 'power', but just publish it on a website or an intranet, you need not RoboHelp Server. See this link for more details of the imminent release of RoboHelp 7 and this link for the RoboHelp 7 Server option.

  • Establishing a socket connection between a .swf file and a current-test program (TCP/IP generator - Windows), in AS3.

    I have a problem with a college project, I'm trying.

    Using Actionscript 3, I did a program simple .swf, a smiley face, lively and interactive, which "reacts" number entered in an input box.

    For purposes of this project, I now do the framework for establishing a connection socket with the smiley .swf and another program.

    That's where I run into problems. I have very little knowledge of the AS3 programming, so I'm not sure how the connection - what is required for it, it is.

    To test the connection, I try to use the "TCP/IP builder" program for windows, which allows me to set up a server socket. I need to program the .swf file into a client - to recognize, connect to it, then be able to receive data (so that data then allows for the smiley "react" him--like how he does now with the input-box, 'automatically' as it gets the data, rather than by manual input).

    My attempts at codification it are as follows, with the help of a tutorial (link HERE):

    INSERT HERE THE SOCKET STUFF

    //****************************************************************

    var socket:XMLSocket;

    Stadium. addEventListener () MouseEvent. ( CLICK, doConnect ();

    It connects to the local port, 9001 and applies event listeners

    ( function doConnect ()evt:MouseEvent():void

    {

    Stadium. removeEventListener () MouseEvent. ( CLICK, doConnect ();

    socket = new XMLSocket()'127.0.0.1', 9001);

    outlet. addEventListener () Event. ( CONNECT, onConnect();

    outlet. addEventListener () IOErrorEvent. ( IO_ERROR, onError ();

    }

    This locates the connection (allows us to see what has happened or failed)

    function onConnect () evt:Event():void

    {

    trace ("Connected"();

    outlet. removeEventListener () Event. ( CONNECT, onConnect();

    outlet. removeEventListener () IOErrorEvent. ( IO_ERROR, onError ();

    outlet. addEventListener () DataEvent. ( DATA, onDataReceived ();

    outlet. addEventListener () Event. ( NARROW, onSocketClose ();

    Stadium. addEventListener () KeyboardEvent. ( KEY_UP, keyUp ();

    }

    ( function onError() evt:IOErrorEvent():void

    {

    trace ()"Login failed"();

    outlet. removeEventListener () Event. ( CONNECT, onConnect();

    outlet. removeEventListener () IOErrorEvent. ( IO_ERROR, onError ();

    Stadium. addEventListener () MouseEvent. ( CLICK, doConnect ();

    }

    Here, the flash titles what keyboard key.

    If you press 'q', the connection ends.

    ( function keyUp() evt:KeyboardEvent():void

    {

    if (evt. ( keyCode == 81( ) / / key for q code is 81

    {

    outlet. Send ("exit");

    }

    on the other

    {

    outlet. Send (evt. keyCode );

    }

    }

    It must manage the data that we get from the server.

    ( function onDataReceived ()evt:DataEvent():void

    {

    try {

    trace ()"Server:", evt. data );

    }

    catch (e:Error) {

    trace ('error');

    }

    }

    ( function onSocketClose ()evt:Event():void

    {

    trace ()"Closed connection"();

    Stadium. removeEventListener () KeyboardEvent. ( KEY_UP, keyUp ();

    outlet. removeEventListener () Event. ( NARROW, onSocketClose ();

    outlet. removeEventListener () DataEvent. ( DATA, onDataReceived ();

    Try to connect to the Jack gives me no result (other than a "Connection failed" message when I click the .swf) or the following error message:

    Error #2044: unhandled securityError:. text = Error #2048: security sandbox violation: file:///C|/Users/Marko/Desktop/Završni/Flash%20documents/Smiley%5FTCP%5FIP%5Fv4.swf cannot load data from 127.0.0.1:9001.

    127.0.0.1 could be supported through your HTTP software, I'm not familiar with the tool you are using. It could also have been show in your hosts file (in Windows you will find here: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc). Check to see if something is the substitution of 127.0.0.1 (local loop).

    Apart from that, I've given you source to a rapid AIR server that has just opened a listener to 127.0.0.1:8910 so you would need no other tools to test the client, even if you have a. I just include the source and a product AIR installer so you can reproduce them to see that I do anything malicious. The Server.air file must be "installed" to test it. When you double-click it, it is a Setup. He moved to C:\Program Files (x 86) \Server (should have called something less common in hindsight). It also has a checkbox to run it after installation. If you don't you will see the server pop up a standard window of 550 x 400 with a text inside the box there letting you know that it is listening. Everything connects, messages (channels) and disconnects the will displayed in the Server text box.

    The customer is the only SWF file, you must run, after 'something' listening on the IP address and port configure you with.

    Here is a picture to show you the server is not running in the same folder the SWF did, tell the server and it only run the client exactly how I should it look like all together:

    I'll show you that after running the Server.air Installer, here is the the path of the executable file is running from and the client SWF isn't here. No problem connecting despite being in different places.

    The server is running and says that it is listening on 8910. Feel free to modify the source and reproduce for a different IP/port.

    -J' open the Client.FLA and just run. It creates a new socket, add headphones, connects to 127.0.0.1:8910.

    -The server responds that he sees and accepts the client connection. The server sends a message "connected." (10 bytes) to the customer immediately.

    -The client receives data (String), he draws. The customer sniffs for this specific message, and then sends the server a string "thanks for the connection!

    -The server receives and is coded only to echo the string in the "Echo - thank you to connect!" back to check that the chain is correct.

    -The customer receives the echo of servers (30 bytes), he draws.

  • Title displayed in the output is not correct - to where?

    RH9, HR Server 9, IE8, WebHelp Pro

    In the project settings > title of the project, we have the label we want users to be able to see in the title bar of the browser output WebHelp.

    However, in the browser, the title displayed in the top navigation bar is different from what we have in the project settings > title of the project. How to change that?

    The title of the project in the project settings > project called MyProject

    In the output of the server, the browser bar says:

    http://MyProject-test/RoboHelp/Robo/Server/General/projects/MyProject/Temp_Project_for_Myp roject.htm

    At the same time, we had the project named 'Temp_Project_for_Myproject {}' but we changed and we cannot get rid of the old name in the output.

    View > pods > implementation of the project. Expand the Windows category and double-click on the definition of the window you should see.
