RoboHelp for Word vs for HTML

Hello

I am currently evaluating RoboHelp 7 and wonder what may be the advantage of using the HTML editing on Word editing. We currently use x 5 RoboHelp for Word, but this does not necessarily mean that I have to stick with it.

Part of me wants to stay with the Word because I'm familiar with it, and because I think I have to use its functionality of changes in track as a way to changes as well for the evaluation and translation purposes (i.e. identifying what has been changed).

Part of me wants to pass in HTML format, but as I dabbled a little in this environment in the past and feel I'm missing out in Word. Also, (and I could be wrong here) but I think it is easier to identify the changes by comparing the HTML files as Word files in a perspective of source control.

I wonder what others in this forum think. Why don't you use Word or HTML editing? And if you have changed from one to the other, what was your deciding factor in doing this?

I appreciate your time to help me decide which way to go.

See you soon
Heather

Thanks to Rick and Leon. Between the two of you, my questions were answered! See you soon.

Curiosity inactive, is a compiled. CHM only several outputs, you create and you still need to WinHelp? If this is the main output, you should really consider moving away from RoboHelp for Word and RoboHelp HTML.

  • Are there patches IE11 and Chrome for RoboHelp for Word 10? Table of contents, Index, and search do not work as expected in WebHelp...

    Question:

Fixes IE11 and Chrome on the Adobe web site ask you to put their new files in RoboHTML templates_stock folder. However, I need these fixes for RoboHelp for Word. Is there a such difficulty?

    Background:

I use 10 RoboHelp for Word, generating WebHelp.

I try to solve the problems about the table of contents, Index, and search appears not not or not being not completely functional IE11 or Chrome, not including many of our customers use. I found a couple of workarounds that my boss doesn't like.

    • In IE11, if the end user adds the web site to the compatibility view list, they all appear and function correctly, but my boss is adamant about not wanting the end user having to do anything to solve the problem.
    • In Chrome, I can get a table of contents and a non-functional search to appear if the user turns off JavaScript for the site, but this solution also violates the lists see also in help. Again, made my boss wants to not that the end user to have to do.

His solution is just to generate using pure HTML, but then the search won't work in IE11 or Chrome (I'm not sure about Firefox). I are based largely on the research, when I'm working on the product, so I really don't want to lose the search function.

    Help, please.

    Kind regards

    Jenn

As I said in my reply to your message in the RoboHelp for Word forum, there is no patch for this.

I can understand your not wanting to Manager end users will do anything and agree with him. However, the fixes for these issues in HTML HR are simply not available in RoboHelp for Word.

  • Height adjustment of window in RoboHelp for Word 7

    Hello

I'm working on a help file using RoboHelp for Word 7.  Is it possible to adjust the size of the help file window so that it is larger when you create a .chm help file?  I understand that the Robohelp help file indicates the window settings are only for winhelp projects.  However, I'm trying to see if there is any way or something to adjust the size of the window to generate a. chm.

When I set the window to 'expand' and I hit generer generate for Microsoft HTML Help, then press display once it is completed, the help file actually appears in a maximized window.  But when I open the .chm itself (apart from Robohelp), it is still a small window.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Now that you have a CHM, you can reverse that, as described on my site. It takes very little time. Suggest the method 2.

Once you have done this, you can move topics in records and make things organized in HR HTML.

  • RoboHelp for Word 7 is not save the rtf and won't compile .hlp

I use RoboHelp for Word 7 for producing WinHelp files. It has been working fine since several months on this computer.

Just in the last week, I had a problem with my Word 2007 when you try to open a .doc file. I received the message that the nswrd632.wpc converter was not found. After a search on the Microsoft forums, I edited the registry and saved this converter.

But now (and which may be unrelated to the Word Converter message) HR will not save the .docx or .rtf file. Whenever I click on save all, nothing happens. When I click project output, the message I need to back up the files, and I click Yes to all. Nothing happens except the message is closed. No files are saved and HR will not end. The only way I can get out of HR is to click on no, which means of course my changes are not saved. I can't save the file menu of Word .docx, either.

Also, I can not compile the file. Yet once, no error message, just does not compile.

I searched the Word HR forums, so that I reinstalled RH, made sure HR add-ins are enabled and removed all the .dot files. Nothing works. I went extracted 112 of Peter Grainge and followed the instructions there - no change.

I found that, after making my changes in the Word document, if I save manually the RTF file by going into the directory Word save slot, the changes will be saved and HR compile the .hlp file - once.

    Any ideas?

Hi, I have a problem almost identical, except that my project uses rather than .rtf files .doc files. I was able to solve the "unable to save" problem by following the information below. I still have not solved the problem "cannot compile.

I use Windows XP, RH7 build 100, Office 2007. My project was created by using Office 2003 and I haven't lived all these issues until I recently upgraded to Office 2007.

This correction was sent to me by guy 'tech' in my group.

A number of Adobe RoboHelp for Word 7 users have reported that they cannot save the changes or generate output. The issue has been isolated to the RHComAdd.DLL be disabled.

    Check in Word:

    • For versions 2003, go to help | Everything | Disabled items. If RHComAdd.DLL display, re - enable.
    • For Word 2007, click on Office button | Word Options | Macros complementary. Under 'Manage' select disabled items, and then click Go. If RHComAdd.DLL appears, highlight it and turn it back on. (This IS WHAT I DID)

You can also re - register the DLL. Go to start | Run and type the following line, assuming that you have installed RoboHelp at the default location.

    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 7\RoboHELP\RHComAdd.dll"

How to get off this DLL? The cause was identified as a Word document is open in Internet Explorer rather than in Word.

This problem has been fixed in version 7.0.2.

Hope this helps you. I'm still working on the compilation error.

  • With the new PC RoboHelp for Word does not open

When I try to open RoboHelp for Word, you receive this error message:
"The version of Microsoft Word you have installed is not supported." Please install an earlier version of Word before you run RoboHelp for Word. »

With this new installation of PC, I always use Word 2003, which is the same version that I used previously. However, the operating system of the PC is now XP, while she was before Windows 2000.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

Peter and Brian, thank you VERY much! RoboHelp for Word works now.

Peter, your advice to install RoboHelp after installing Word was key to resolve this issue.

For a quick summary of the result - our Help Desk uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook, Word and RoboHelp. Then they have reinstalled Word and Outlook; to change a setting 'Advanced' in outlook; to get the word to stop giving me the error messages, they need to redo my user profile. Then after that I was convinced that Word and Outlook work properly, this afternoon I installed RoboHelp X 5 through my CD and then downloaded and installed these two tasks on Adobe.com:
-rho_x501.exe (for updating HR Office Word 2003 support)
-rho13_x502.exe (for the Microsoft XP Service Pack 2 updated X5.0.2). help

I am so grateful that RoboHTML and RoboHelp for Word seem to work well! Thanks again!

P.S. I have a question on a patch that I have not yet loaded, but I'll post that under a material full.

  • RoboHelp Word closes generation HTML Help after 2 MB of images

Hi, I'm evaluating RoboHelp for Word 8 for my business. I use the trial version of RoboHelp for Word 8. Building the content of files hep in the Word document I insert images by using the Insert-> picture-> Word file menu. After that I inserted about 2 MB of images RoboHelp crashes when I run the RoboHelps file-> generate main Layout for MS HtmlHelp, in the menu. The compiler output crashes just essentially by the following:

    From compilation...

    Compensation output folder...

    From compilation...

I found the image on the border of the size limit and delete it and am able to generate the output. I can also replace it with a much smaller image and can generate the output.

This seems very strange to me, 2 MB is nothing. We mainly use a JPG image and two small GIFs. This could be just a problem with the trial version of RoboHelp 8 or maybe RoboHelp wants images inserted in Word in a different way?

Thank you, I appreciate any information you can provide me.

You missed my point. With RoboHelp HTML you do not have to import, you link and then create the CHM. The Word document can reside on the network and SMEs can change. When you build, RoboHelp prompts you to update the topics in the current version of the document.

Thus, you always have your Word documents available for others to update and you still have your CHMS.

Which version of Word you are using. In 2007, things RoboHelp seems to be in the Add-In Ribbon.

  • "Unable to install the plugin from RoboHelp for FrameMaker...." »

    Hi-

I have 9 Frame and a copy of RoboHelp 8.0.0.203 demonstration and works in Windows 7 (all of a sudden. Yet to learn my way in the operating system after a catastrophic failure of the weekend with my trusty little machine XP.) I have no TCS2; just these two stand-alone tools. I have a book of frame I need to turn into contextual HLO and am auditioning Robo for the task.

No dice. Whenever I try to import (see below re linking) I get an error message in a box marked "RHUtils": "unable to install the plugin from RoboHelp for FrameMaker. If please close FrameMaker and try again. »

With your permission, I'll cover a few points in the order in which they come to mind:

== > Initially I tried linking, hoping of course to the advantages of the single-sourcing. I learned in this forum and elsewhere (-btw, thanks for this great resource) I need the TCS2 in good faith in place to connect. Thought that I could import for now instead of it, just to see how it happened; received the same error message.

== > It was AFTER I had done the research and on the Adobe site (http://www.adobe.com/support/robohelp/misc.html) found this: "the plug-in for RoboHelp, FrameMaker FrameMaker users allows quickly convert any number of books for a simple import or FrameMaker files in RoboHelp 2002 and X 3.» RoboHelp X 4 includes the plug-in! For RoboHelp, FrameMaker plug-in is only available for Windows. To install the plug-in, unzip the RoboMIF.dll into the Plugins folder in the installation of FrameMaker folder (normally found in C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker7.0\fminit\Plugins)...   Once the plug-in has been installed, restart FrameMaker. FrameMaker now includes a RoboHelp menu. "OK: I have downloaded RoboMIF.dll, installed according to the instructions, rebooted just in case, and now"Adobe RoboHelp"actually appears in the menu bar in the frame. I however always the error message whenever I try to import (now).

== > For several of these attempts Frame was indeed closed. For several other Frame opened to the entry page and nothing else. No apparent effect, anyway.

== > Import and link Word files seems to work very well - which is cool, but my document is in frame at the moment. I know I can convert, but up to now to convert the word seems to need to get all references, what I did in the framework. Doable but not my first choice.

== > I found a thread of editors at http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg18576.html / / www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] msg18576.html relating to this problem. The recommendation, (published here for brevity), who was the author:

    1. locate [the] Maker.ini file and ideally make a backup of it, just in case.
    2. in the [APIClients] section of the maker.ini file, add the following line:

    RH4FMver9 = Standard, RH4FMver9, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2\Adobe RoboHelp 8\RoboHTML\RHFrameMakerServer9.dll,all

    3. you should now be able to launch RoboHelp and 'link' files, FrameMaker, FrameMaker application should launch correctly.

This doesn't seem to be my answer because I don't yet own TCS2. This path does not exist.

(I still get excellent advice of training provided by this answering machine, RJ Raquez, to http://blogs.adobe.com/rjacquez/2009/05/linking_framemaker_9_books_in.html.)

In any case, this is where I realized that I was, at least for now, of ideas. Does anyone have more?

    Thank you-

    Anne

If you do not want to go down the road of miftogo mentions Arnis, you can always download the demo of TCS2 - it is fully functional for the period of the demo. I am tempted to install it in its own virtual machine (or another machine entirely) so that you do not get the demo interfere with your legitimate copy of FM9.

  • software standard in the industry for HTML and CSS

    Hello

I'm curious to know if Adobe Dreamweaver is the industry standard, used software in the industry. I understand that many developers prefer to use HTML editors, but is it true for web designers too?

If that's true, then I wonder if creating delicate design will not become more complicated if it is rested solely on coding, when we have available Bootstrap. Please let me know your point of view.

I'm curious to know if Adobe Dreamweaver is the industry standard, used software in the industry. I understand that many developers prefer to use HTML editors, but is it true for web designers too?

A word processor (such as Notepad) is the standard, all other applications, including Dreamweaver, add modules to facilitate faster processing of industry. In Dreamweaver, these modules are primarily for HTML, CSS, JS, and PHP. Other processors may include the likes of ASP.NET or ColdFusion. Next to word processing, Dreamweaver also has a module that manages the FTP. Some developers can use a number of processors as media alongside Dreamweaver.

As far as I know, Dreamweaver is the unique integrated development program which is used to teach the subject.

Bootstrap is one of many front end development infrastructure and should not be included in deciding to use the processor. The fact that it is included in Dreamweaver does not mean that it should be used, it is simply more convenient to use when using Dreamweaver.

  • How do I change name of file for HTML single image pages in the web gallery for LR 3

    Hello

I would like to change the file name by default for HTML pages produced by Lightroom 3 in the web gallery. Specifically, I would like to withdraw the name of HTML in the 'great' chain file so it exactly corresponds to image file.

Specifically, the default URL is like this:

    http://www.mysite.com/content/_c_EMT2146_large.html

and I wish it were like that

    http://www.mysite.com/content/_c_EMT2146.html

I guess that there is a way to make this change by using model editors, but I can't understand it.

    Thank you

On Mac LR is provided as a package. You must Show Package in the Finder, and then work down to:

    \Contents\Plugins\Web.lrmodule\Contents\Resources\Galleries.

  • RoboHelp for FrameMaker requirements

I have v1.1 of RoboHelp for FrameMaker and FrameMaker v7.2. RoboHelp complains that FrameMaker is not installed. V7.2 is not supported? Is there a way I can deceive RoboHelp to using anyway (change file name, etc.)?

As far as I know, RHF supports FrameMaker 7.2, 7.2 is out significantly after RHF. He seems to recognize FrameMaker 7.1, but has problems with newer versions to distill that are provided with the latest versions of FrameMaker. I guess the 7.0p578 frame would be the best option for the Interior with RHF.

However, you CAN have several versions of FrameMaker on the same system. So, you could have framework 7.0 (for use with RHF) and Frame 7.2 for other projects on the same system. Save your FrameMaker files in MIF files for maximum portability of the different versions.

The sticking point will be to distill - several versions of Distiller on a system can cause all sorts of issues.
