Routers: 64-bit and 32-bit

I have a 64-bit PC and that you want to configure a wireless router that will receive my portable 32-bit online. I guess if I get a router that is 64 and 32-bit compatible I am home and dry - but maybe I'm wrong on this issue. Can anyone recommend a reliable router that will do the job (in the United Kingdom)?

Hi Langspiel,

If a device is specially designed for the 64 bit version of Windows, it will not work on the 32-bit version of Windows. (However, most of the devices designed for the 32-bit version of Windows works on 64-bit Windows version).

Your best bet is to check if the router is compatible with vista 32-bit and 64-bit windows.

http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-Vista/default.aspx

You can use your favorite search engine to find a router (your choice) which is compatible for both 32-bit and 64-bit windows vista.

  • Automatic configuration for routers, switches Catalyst and ASA backups

I am looking for a free solution to make monthly backups of my routers (2821), Catalyst (X 3650, 3750-X) switches and ASA (5510). I'm in a Windows environment and have you not mind doing a bit of coding.

I did some research looking at other popular solutions:

-SNMP and a combination of Bash scripts, but that does not support switches Catalyst from what I've read.

-Rance, on Linux & OS X, not something common in our environment

-Tools of Tao kiwi, not free

Is there something (or if applicable, somethings) that I am missing that will do this from a Windows environment for free?

    Thanks in advance.

Kron seems to be supported on the routers only, ASA here is a good explanation on how to collect the backups regularly:

    https://supportforums.Cisco.com/docs/doc-14958

If you are looking for a centralized solution and you machine to act as a collector, rancid is really the best option (if you can allow non-windows machines).

  • The way of writing to a wireless bridge between two different routers.1:broadband and dir 2:dlink 605 l

I want to bridge.and wireless I can't do that... Please send me how to write to a wireless bridge between two different routers.

    1:broadband
    and
    2:Dlink dir 605 l,

    Hi Mohammed Ehsan Jourah,.

Thanks for posting the request in the Microsoft community forums.
I understand that you need to know how to make a wireless bridge between two different routers

What version of the operating system is installed on the computer?

To connect multiple computers, install a network adapter in each and run a network CAT5 cabling to connect each one to a hub (and thus the other.) The computer that will serve as a transition will have a standard network card for wired and a wireless network adapter that will connect to the wireless (WAP) access point or gateway on the second network.

A network bridge is software or hardware that connects two networks or more so that they can communicate. You can create only a single bridge network on a computer, but a bridge can handle any number of network connections.

You can try the steps at the bridge between two different routers wireless.
    a. determine the coverage area. When using two or more routers, the coverage area should be divided, and each router should be placed in a central location in each subdivision. If you add a wireless router to an existing network, this may mean moving the first router.
    b. decide which router is the main router. The main router is connected to the Internet, a LAN cable or other networks. It should be as close to the wired network connections or who has the best line of sight to another wireless network. In addition, the main router should be a high range router, allowing large tables of State and more users.
    c. buy a spare antenna, as the antennas that come with most routers do not have very good range. Quality omnidirectional antennas can push the range and signal strength of each of the routers, which, in turn, will reduce the cost by allowing routers less cover more space overall.
    d. deploy the primary router carefully. This router is the most important and requires most of the time of installation and options. Set the WEP (Protocol) encryption Service Set Identifier (SSID) and wireless, set up the Internet connection and test the router with some clients (computers). Once you get the main router deployed, deploy other routers should be easy.
    e. deploy the secondary routers, which must be configured to operate in "mode of transition." Secondary routers should be deployed around the perimeter of a large area or 'hot spots' where users placed - for example, will convene a bench Park or the table.

  • Backdoor in Cisco routers and firewalls.

The more I read on the NSA scandal (and Yes, I apparently a scandal) less I trust corporations hardware and software.  There is no reason for anyone to doubt that all Cisco equipment comes with a backdoor.  Because these probable backdoors exist it's a matter of time before hackers discover and exploit them.  It's happened to Microsoft a number of times and there is no reason that it could not happen to Cisco.  It is no longer our trust Cisco equipment and have already started researching alternatives network.

It is more a crazy conspiracy theory, that is the reality.

In all liklihood, we use a series of firewall to further isolate our network against intrusions.  To reduce costs, we can keep our existing in this topology Cisco equipment, but we will replace hardware Cisco when it breaks down or needs to be upgraded.  I do the same thing with my home network.

In the last months, we already moved all of our e-mail to secure servers overseas and changed all our McAfee, AVG and Avast antivirus software.  We are also researching Linux distributions to replace Microsoft.

If Cisco wants to protect their brand, they need to take a stand or see their market share continue to erode.  There must be a CEO to a U.S. company that will take this position and be a hero rather that continue to be a lap dog.

  • Need help connecting 2 routers

Hello, I was scratching around the search for a solution to my problem for a few weeks now.

I have 2 routers (connected according to the picture below) - I have it set up so that I can collect access logs (one of the routers is bit I found that can connect internet URL) to any person who connects via wifi on the BEF router, however I cannot get an internet connection using a LAN port (according to the red line). I read that to record the activity that I need to connect via the internet port (yellow dotted line), but I can't make it work, and it's frustrating the heck out of me now

Does anyone have any solutions for this?

    Thanks in advance.

What is the address IP of WAG?

Press and hold the reset button on the BEFW router for 30 seconds. Release the reset and wait 30 seconds. Open the BEFW router configuration page. Change the local IP address of BEFW to 192.168.5.1.

Connect to port Internet router BEFW WAG. Cycle power to the BEFW11S4 router. Now try to access internet through router BEFW11S4. DO not disable the DHCP server on the router BEFW11S4.

  • The utility Airport and Time Capsule, not appear...

Hello all! I have an old TC (not sure how old but less than 3 years) which appears in Airport utility on my iPhone but not on my Mac. I have my TC in Bridge mode.

During the night, we lost our internet connection so this morning, I restarted my modem/router to Comcast. He looked like my TC starts fine but when I open the Airport utility on my Mac it isn't here, but if I open Airport utility on my iPhone 6 is here. I wonder why it appears on one and not the other...

Thank you for your valuable information and knowledge! Judy

You only need a device with AirPort Utility installed to be able to administer all the airport on your network routers... and, as you have found... the software on the iOS version of the utility is better than the software on a Mac.

Thus, an option would be to use Airport utility on the iPad and not to use it on the Mac.

If you want to keep the AirPort Utility to work on your Mac, there are some settings to check and possibly change that could help with the "airports endangered" issue, who is with us for a few years.  No guarantee that this will help, but it won't hurt either. If you have 10-15 minutes free to work on your Mac, and we'll see what we can do.

  • Satellite L450D: Windows 7 and Netgear connection problems

    Hello

Ive recently bought a Toshiba Satellite L450D but I can't connect to a netgear wireless account...
It works fine on another laptop and my toshiba can connect to an account of different eircom without problem...

What is the new Windows 7, which is not compatible with the server or do I have another problem!

    Thank you! :)

    Hello

What you mean with Netgear wireless account exactly? Do you mean the router Netgear WLAN?

Normally, you can connect to each WLAN router. It makes no difference which manufacturing, you have the router but factory settings are different, this means that some routers have DHCP and static IP addresses, for example. I think you should check the TCP/IP configuration and update the WLAN driver.

Check for an update WLAN Portal: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/

    Good luck! :)

  • Cascading WRT160NL routers...

I have a client with a very large house & the WRT160NL does reach all areas of the House (more than 8,000 square feet, thick walls with heavy insulation, & 2 floors).  I want to do is pick up two other routers WRT160NL & connect them in other parts of the House to help remedy this situation.  What I need to know is how to configure the secondary routers to work (I know all hang their LAN to LAN from the main router & disable DHCP).  I also need to make sure that each secondary router will be able to have a wired office hung their & have network/internet access.  Any input will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Well, you already know everything. You must set up a free LAN IP address on other routers, disable DHCP and LAN - LAN Server.

You can then use the access points in the Wrds and 3 ports remaining LAN for wired devices.

For a mobile wireless network, you must set the same SSID and wireless security settings. Enable broadcast SSID and use different channels, at least 5 pieces.

  • Xbox Live with ICS and WRT54g2

I have a PC with ICS turned on and my xbox connected via ethernet.  The PC is connected wireless to my WRT54g2.  For the life of me, I can't configure my xbox setting network correctly.  Once I logged with the help of the network on the Xbox support page using 192.168.0.2 but I can't forward ports in this way to open my NAT. I had NAT MODERATE warning.

Can someone please help me get this straightened out?  What I am doing wrong?

1 how the WRT is connected to the modem? Via the internet port?

    2. If you run ICS on a PC then the PC works as another router. You have now two chained routers: the WRT and the PC. Implementation of the port on the only WRT redirects will not change a thing because you do the port even redirects on your PC as well.

    3. the best recommendation: keep it simple. Do pass a wire of your WRT to your xbox or get a wireless adapter for the xbox to connect directly. Connection through your WRT and your PC ICS to your xbox is simply a mess. Even if you got all the ports properly transmitted, I won't expect too much stability and quality in your network connections.

    4. If you want to keep as you have now, you must configure the following:

Xbox: set a static IP 192.168.0.2, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.0.1, DNS 192.168.0.1 mask
ICS PC: set a static IP address for your wireless network connection: IP 192.168.1.5 subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1 dns 192.168.1.1.

Next, configure the shipments of necessary port for your xbox on the WRT. Before all these ports to 192.168.1.5.

Then configure the same redirects on your PC of the ICS. Before all ports to 192.168.0.2.

If everything is configured correctly and works well it should work. But once again: don't expect too much.

  • What is Firmware and how do I install it?

Just downloaded Firmware on my router (info by GIS)

What does really do and how do I install it?

    Thanks in advance.

Firmware is basically the operating system for the router.  It fixes the problems or make improvements.  Access the routers admin pages and look for the upgrade of the firmware section.  Rename the firmware on the computer in the code.bin file and perform the upgrade.

  • I have a Photosmart C7280 and s question about a decision of the network.

I currently have two workstations connected to a router via ethernet cables.  They are connected to a single (not HP) printer with USB cable through a USB switch.  Two laptops to connect to the wireless router.  I could replicate the existing configuration with the C7280, but the idea of a network in which the laptops were allowed to participate is very attractive.  One of the laptop is running Windows version 7, the other computers running Linux.  If I go for an ethernet network, the laptops will be able to connect to the printer via the router?  If I go for a wireless network, desktop computers will be able to connect to the printer via their ethernet cables?  A couple of Wireless USB adapters are a possibility.

I understand that you have questions about networking with your printer.

Yes, wired network connections will be no problem to connect to a wifi connected printer.  Most routers bridge cable and wireless to work as a single network.  There are some routers between wired and wireless networks, but these are before any company grade routers and network equipment.

A wired desktop computer will be able to print to a wireless printer as long as it is connected via the same router.  Conversely, a wireless computer can print to a printer connected Ethernet as long as it's the same router.

I recommend using a network for the printer configuration, if possible, to avoid printing problems.  USB hubs have been known to cause printing problems, although this isn't always the case.

  • Unable to connect to Homegroup Windows 7 between the Modem to the PC and the Modem to the router for PC users.

I want to talk about WIRED computers, do not speak of wireless.

    I have 3 PC:

-2 are connected via Modem directly to the PC.

-1 is connected through router, and the router is connected to the modem.

The problem, this is it, it cannot detect the homegroup that I created on the computer that is directly connected by modem.

The 2 PC via modem are perfectly detected and connected to the homegroup, so I want to know what I would do to another PC (which is connected to the router via modem) detects the homegroup, I had already created?

    Help, please.

A Modem can have only two ports, connect to the internet (Wide Area Network) and the second to a SINGLE local device. In most cases the internet Service Pwill provide with only an IP address so itself cannot connect to more than one at a time. In current solutions, it is very rare for a Modem to use. If as you say, you have several devices connected to this unit then he himself is a router but possibly with the Modem built in if you have ADSL ISP.

If your second unit is also a router then that explains why you cannot connect all devices in the same residential group.

Router 1 has created a Local Area Network including both PC and the WAN port on the Router 2. Router 2 has created another independent local network with the 3rd PC. It is very likely that the two local networks will be IPv4 and traffic can be routed between them correctly in both directions according to the two local networks subnet ranges.

Even if they are properly configured to allow traffic that HomeGroup requires IPv6 that some home routers support fully and every Member of the residential group must be on the same LAN anyway, he will not support a routed connection.

Remove the 3rd PC of the 2nd router and plug it into the direct 1 router, remove the router 2nd the 1st in order to free the port. 3 all PCs are now on the same local network and communicate both IPv4 and IPv6, and homegroup should work.

If you need additional ports provided by the 2nd router for other devices is not part of this problem then consider replacing it with a switch. If you use Router 2 for other devices Wi - Fi irrelevant then you need a wireless access Point.

  • Windows 7 and DSL Modem lock up

This problem has been ongoing for the last 6 weeks, before the system has worked well for 2 years.

I have READ of border, I have 2 computers wireless to the router configuration. If the laptop is connected directly to the router, it works fine, it's just the wireless portion that no longer works. In collaboration with the border, we tried 3 different routers, change channels and other settings without help.

I'm at the point of tests that the problem seems to be with my office w/w7. If I leave my computer turned off during the night, the next morning the DSL is online and working with the laptop. (It has an internet connection). Start the office and everything works well, especially for everyday. Reverse the process, turn off the laptop and leave the office on it all night, the next morning, the DSL should be reset as he turned off the wireless part.

Still working with Frontier, one of the technicians mentioned support a problem with windows 7 filling the buffers DSL and not flushing flushing them, problems disappear in DSL is the power to bike.

Yet once, this configuration has worked for 2 years with a few resets modem. Also, I tried a Netgear N300 Wireless Router with the same results. I'm suspecting a Windows update 6 to 7 weeks, which may have started the problem, but that is only a guess.

    Good ideas out there?

    Tom

It was necessary to call Dell and reload the drivers wireless on the PC.

  • Cluster AP541N of problems with the sticky homelessness and slow connections

I have a client with about 20 users with wireless and a cluster of 4 AP541N on their activities. They have an app that they get on a cloud that connects to a remote desktop in the same sense that Citrix. We have a problem of connectivity to the wireless network and also some speed issues. I went when they have problems and tracked down the AP where is the MAC machine and often it is not the closest access point to the user. Many times, it is an access point with 2 other AP in the same cluster between him and the client computer.

Concern for speed appears on different machines, not necessarily the same as those with sticky homelessness issue. Some of them have a wireless n card, but are only connect to g. I don't know if it's related to that, but I also have machines 100% or close to it, the signal strength and they dive into the region of 15Mbps. The LAN is fine, other wireless devices are fine, but these intermittent problems happen to some users. We have updated the firmware for the wireless card, and generally, this does not resolve the issue.

The cluster uses automatic management of channel and in order to cut down on the thorny issue of roaming my network engineer value emission high instead of full power to limit overlap.

Any suggestions about where to go next with troubleshooting? These users entered a wireless network that was not clustered with retail store bought routers Cisco wireless and had similar or better performance, so they ask why they're not getting a better experience with the equipment upgraded. Thank you all

My name is Eric Moyers. I am an engineer in the Small Business Support Center.

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue.

The AP541N does not support roaming. Yes, I know that in the Administrator's Guide, he mentions one seamless experience. It is actually mentioned in the WDS section and not Clustering. However is not roaming as you would find with a wireless network with a wireless LAN controller.

Within the Cisco Small Business equipment and any other provider, for networks that do not have a controller wireless LAN to a wireless client to move from one access point to another that the first signal would actually have to drop to get the next strongest signal to authenticate and connect.

With the AP541N, there is an option to activate prior authentication if you use Radius Authentication. This assistance in faster authentication but is still not roaming and would require a signal switch to the next strongest signal.

Have you done a scan wireless in your area? I use a tool called Analytics of a Wi - Fi connection, the best thing is it of free. This can help determine which static channel is best for your environment. One of the Con to use an automatic channel is that when the AP is changing channels, it will pass some clients are currently connected and won't allow all connections until a new string is found and the beginning of the device transmitting again.

If you want help to determine the best configuration for your situation, lease call our support center and prosecute so that one of our engineers can work directly with you. Once you have a file number, all engineers know who I am and can reach assistance me if needed.
