• Cascade 2 routers?

  New to the forum, so I apologize if this has been covered. He's probably, and if so the directions to the correct thread would be appreciated.

  I originally installed a router Linksys 4 port in my house. When we had this House built I wired it for ethernet myself. The point where the router is installed is very close to what the phone company bark when she enters the House. Problem is back, then wireless is a thing of the future, and since all ran on cable it did not matter that this thing was off at one end of the House.

  Now, it is important, because with the advent wireless, I upgraded to a Linksys WRT54G2 a few years ago (I think). But I'm developing 2 new problems. The first (1st) is that I've not enough ports to support all the devices wired, we could have connected - I'm flat out ports and need at least 2 more. The second (2) problem is the wireless signal is just low enough to drop signals on some devices within the confines of our network. Most work well (laptops), but some do not (Kindle, smartphones).

  What I want to do is to install a new router 8 ports to the current location of router (problem 1). I want to spend the WRT54G2 existing at a more central location, then plug it into the first router that I hope will solve the problem (2).

  I would like some advice on which router to buy 8 ports, and any advice on the installation of a system of cascading of routers like this.

  It seems that I see today are wireless routers. If the new 8 port router is a wireless router it will interfere with the other wireless router or can they be used together to boost the signal still more?

  2. you don't want to buy a router 8 port. You want to buy an ethernet port (or more port) switch 8. An ethernet switch extends the network wired with additional ports.

  3. If you need better coverage get an access point or router (set up as access point).

  Assume option 1:

  • Guest access not exist anymore (because it requires DHCP... even if it is on a different subnet)?
  • PC that is connected to Router 2 will receive their IP address of Router 1?

  Guest access to Router 2 is not available. Should work the Router 1 however.

  DHCP server on the Router 1 will provide addresses IP to all PCs no matter if they connect to Router 1 or 2.

• Help cascading two Linksys routers

  Hi, I tried to cascade two Linksys routers, but it did not work for me. Maybe you could help us. The first (which has the connection of the cable modem) is the brand new E4200, and the second is the former WRT54GCv3.

  However, the WRT54GCv3 does not receive the IP address of the DHCP E4200. I also tried to connect directly (without the PLC), even specifying a static IP address on the router second, but I got the same results.

  I have to State, that I will not change the gateway IP/first router because I have a web server and game works with a static IP address and I don't want to put it temporarily offline due to adjust the network settings.

  I understand double and triple NAT is unstable.

  How to configure routers to solve this problem?  DMZ?  port forwarding?

  I want to divide the internet access from a single IP DHCP of Comcast to two separate networks; business network the router E900 and comments for Netgear router network.

  -I want the E900 and Netgear network is completely separate and invisble to the other for security issues.

  -i want hosts to connect to networks with no special configuration required then I would like if possible that DHCP on both routers,

  You certainly don't want to put the E900 in bridged mode. Put the E900 in to fill the mode would not meet your security requirements.

  Your first statement in your first post "I understand the double and triple NAT is unstable" is an incorrect statement. I have currently triple a NAT configuration and there is nothing unstable at all. The only time where people suffer from instability and problems is when they don't cascade NAT routers correctly. In other words, if you try to cascade NAT routers and put them both on the same local network segment... you will most likely problems.

  Why you want to work around NAT?

  It seems you have the routers cascade properly, so there is no need to bypass the NAT.

  If you post the brand and model of your modem, someone here on the forum can tell you if it's a NAT router or a simple dumb modem.

• Cascading E3850 disables the config. page?

  So I was pretty excited when I had just purchased a new Linksys AC2400 WIRELESS router because it would be a huge upgrade for me from the router D - Link DIR-615 cheap I had before. But now, because of what I consider a problem very serious design with the router, I am about to return and to ensure that his replacement doesn't have the same problem.

  The problem is only on the difference in the use of Basic for the router, where there isn't that one router in your home and all your home devices are connected and the router is connected directly to the internet, I need this new router linksys with router-bridge cascading my ISP in my basement and it is impossible to do without the Web page of the router configuration (as well as some features of "premium" of the router) becomes unavailiable after setting up the network. This means that whenever I want to change a setting on the router, I have to restore the router to factory settings and restore the previous settings before I can make the change. This implies two reboots and a lot of hassle for something that should be achievable within a webpage of simple configuration at any time.

  Let me explain how this happens. When you connect two routers and you want to have the same network on both routers, you must connect the LAN to LAN routers and disable the DHCP server on one of them. If I keep the DHCP server on the Linksys, I don't know why, gateway / router my ISP ceases to provide internet. Even if I change the LAN IP of the gateway to be within the range of the Linksys allocation DHCP IP range, all computers that never connect to the network get their DNS address automatically (it is empty). I was able to disable the DHCP and still no internet on bridge / router my previous ISP, so I don't think that disabling DHCP of the gateway must disable its internet (but for some reason, this is the case with the new access provider). So the only availiable is to disable DHCP on the Linksys router. While all cameras, wired or wireless, can connect to the internet perfectly in this configuration, by design (http://www.linksys.com/ca/support-article?articleNum=132275, search for "you will not be able to access the web-based configuration page" inside the page) This disables the page of the Linksys router but also some of the functionality of outlets like printer sharing (I have not tested other features can disappear as well).

  While I don't dare argue that 'premium' functionality should always be available with the off DHCP protocol (although I strongly suspect that it should be possible to keep it available) of the fact that the configuration page disappears is a huge problem. This is because I know that as time passes I will need to change the settings here and there on the router such as port forwarding and storage sharing functions of the router.

  And even if I didn't change the settings frequently, it of not fair for me to have (relatively) paid a lot of money for the router and must accept having to reset the router to factory settings everytime I want to change a setting.

  I don't know why Linksys took the design decision to intentionally disable configuration page when the DHCP server on the router is turned off. The cheap D-Link router has managed to keep its configuration page to the top after I disabled the DHCP.

  So I say Linksys, please remove this unnecessary limitations (disabling the page config. when the service DHCP disabled and if possible also remove the deactivation of value-added functions (printer/storage, sharing, etc.) when the DHCP service is disabled). You will not be able to correct them before my product back from the ends of the window, but if solve you this problem, I will look into your routers the next time I have to buy a new.

  I solved the problem, fortunately. What is happening is that the linksys IP was on a different subnet that the ISP router assigned to the local network. Router of the ISP gave the address of 192.168.0.X subnet LAN but the Linksys is the 192.168.1.X subnet so anything on the network can access it. By changing the IP Address of the linksys to something in the 192.168.0.X subnet router I can access its configuration page now and all the features of "premium" of the router as the printer / hard drive/media sharing now work!

  I had to do a lot of testing with my older router and ISP router to discover the problem. It was later that I learned the technical explanation of what was going on after looking upward.

  What is the Linksys support page at http://www.linksys.com/ca/support-article?articleNum=132275 trying to say by saying "NOTE: when cascading of routers by using this method, you will not be able to access the configuration page of the secondary router web-based since it will have the same IP range as the main router.'? '" I do not know. But the page of the "secondary" router web-based configuration is still available after the waterfall it.

  I have to clarify that the steps that I had to do to solve my problem wasn't in the Linksys guide linked above. The guide will make anyone trying to cascade on the routers default IPs are on different subnets (eg. Linksys 192.168.1.1 with Cisco 192.168.0. 1) have the same problem I did. The guide mentions changing the fourth byte of the "secondary" router IP (eg. the '1' in the 192.168.0. 1) so that they are different to the 'main' and 'secondary' routers, but it says nothing about the second router (eg. 192.168.0 in 192.168.0.1) IP subnet which must be the local network of the "main/primary" router subnet

  Long story short, the official guide for Linksys I linked somewhere above does not cover a particular case when certain brands/models of router combinations are used and will not work in these cases. The guide should be updated so that the subnet of the IP address of the router being cascade is the same as that of the main router's LAN.

  So, I'm sorry Linksys to say something that was wrong on your products. Your routers do not hell their configuration Web page when their DHCP is disabled or when mount you them cascading, but the guide to http://www.linksys.com/ca/support-article?articleNum=132275 does not correctly handle routers whose default subnets are different.

  I'm tying an e2000 (connected to the modem/internet) for a WRT54GL v. 1.1, which in turn, I want to connect to our TV with a cable ethernet through LAN ports. Both have the latest respective software.

  I can cascade right routers via the lan ports and the e2000 assigns ip addresses, etc. - all great. But when I disconnect the connection to the local network, no joy.

  I tried to set up a static address in the Routing window advanced, but the computer does not find the router later.

  My set up:

  E2000

  IP = 192.168.1.19

  subnet = 255.255.255.0

  DHCP = 192.168.1.100 ip address range - 192.168.1.149

  Wireless = g only, secure

  the WRT54GL

  IP = 192.168.1.254

  subnet = 255.255.255.0

  allcoation DHCP = disabled

  Wireless = G only, secure, exact same SSID and password

  chosen rather than the gateway router

  Is my static routing badly due to the same domain 192.168.1.XXX address?

  Should I static routing?
  Is there a simple setting I'm missing?

  Linksys support suggested I put the e2000 in the #1 position and, during the configuration, review the port #2... as I said, everything looks great until I have try to disconnect and use the wireless.

  Any help much appreciated, or, if I'm trying to do is impossible, it would be great to know too. I turn signal replacement software if it is a much better solution than the road I'm.

  You can't connect two Linksys wireless routers.  You should always use a cable as you discovered.  I'm sorry.  However, there may be some 3rd party firmware that will support this.  Search the Web for DD - WRT firmware to see if your router supports it.

• Cisco E3000 connect Mode cascade

  I have a Linksys E3000 mode cascade with my Modem - Router ADSL. However, even if I can connect using the IP address of the router, I am unable to connect using Cisco connect just in case I want to allow anyone to use the comments feature.

  Can someone tell me how I can connect using Cisco Connect or how to activate the functionality of the web page comments?

  You can't connect two routers using the Wi - Fi connection. So there should be a cable between Actiontech router and with valet services more.

  Connection type 1:

  If you want to use the network comments on Valet Plus router then router function or the DHCP server on the Valet more should work.

  Consider that the IP of Actiontach router address is 192.168.1.1. Then connect the cable to the port of Actiontech router to the Internet liked Jack port.   I have this old wag160n, which is very old and I am facing a lot of problems with it. I have ourchaced a new E2500 router licksys wireless and I try to use the WAG as a modem.

  WAG is configured as: Wireless is disabled - encapsulation is bridge Mobe - DHCP is disabled.

  E2500 is configured and works perfectly (I tried with the 2wire and it worked fine, but I have to give that back to the ISP), but when I hang it to the WAG, there is no internet access

  Hi farafiro, since the WAG160N and the E2500 have the same IP address, you really need to change the IP address of the 2nd unit 192.168.2.1 to conflict of IP.  It's like cascading two routers in a network.

• Weird Bridge Mode

  I had successfully set up my ea4500 in before bridge mode.  Recently, I had to use it as my main router and reset it to do this.  When I tried again to configure it in bridge mode, I had a problem.  I put to the 'bridge' Mode and set the IP 192.168.1.2. subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and gateway IP to 192.168.1.1.  When I hit enter, I got an "invalid IP address".  After several times to tryinbg, I called Linksys that after having tried several other things, a technician told me also enter "192.168.1.1" in the slot to DNS1.  I've never had to do this before, but it seemed to work.

  Someone at - it a reason why I should do.

  The two links are "official" links  The link I posted suggests different ways to configure the bridge mode.  Maybe we are just differing by samantics.  Yes, the diagram show a laptop connected to the Ethernet, Lan-to-Wan port.  Howefver, is not the only way to use the router connected by a bridge once it is implemented.

  In the link you suggested the second to the last paragraph reads "setting the router in Bridge mode disables the guest access.  When cascading of routers, specifically using LAN to LAN connection, affecting the second router bridge Mode would not allow access for customers.  However, guest access is allowed if the connection type is LAN to WAN. »

  I do not use the guest access, is not important for me.  I am only using the accrss as a SSID wireless point in this part of the House.  I've installed and used the router bridge lan-to-lan mode in the past with good success.

  We had a WRT54GX4 wireless router.

  Upgrade to an E2000 wireless router.

  We have now 6 things we use wired, the E2000 has only 4 wired ports.

  Can I use the WRT54GX4 as a hub, plug it into one of the ports wired on the E2000

  and be able to use the ports wired on the WRT54GX4 for a total of 7 cable ports?

  I need 2 routers cascade, but I can't use threads (at least for the moment), to extend the coverage of my private home network.

  First router is a WRT610Nv1, connected via PPPoE for my ISP and Internet. The two radio freq (2.4 & 5 MHz) are activated but I use mostly the 2.4 with the devices.

  Second router is an E2000, 2 floors below. During this second device, I would like to connect some cables (XBOX) and some wireless device (computers). It would be ok to configure E2000 as an Extender (same IP subnet) but I can't find any option or similar configuration to use WDS.

  Currently the E2000 place is taken by a 3rd router (WRT150Nv1.1 with firmware WW - DRT) acting as a Repeater bridge (over 2.4 MHz) but I want to dismiss this 3rd possibly using 5 MHz and didn't want to put the dd - wrt firmware in E2000.

  Is it possible to connect WRT610N and E2000 cascade wireless? How can I configure them?

  No you can not mount cascade two Linksys wireless routers, you must use a thread.  However, there are 3rd party firmware that can do this.  Make a search for DD - WRT and discover their firmware.

  I want to create a network where IP numbers are distributed by the ADSL Modem (it's now with DHCP on). To be more precise, the Modem has the default 192.168.25.1 IP, and I want to computers connected to the Linksys routers have IP 192.168.25.xxx ranges.

  WRT160N 1: 192.168.25.2

  WRT160N2: 192.168.25.3

  I think you can get the configuration of your network of your choice by entering the first and the second router to your modem through LAN-to-LAN. If your modem has 192.168.25.1 its IP address, you can 192.168.25.2 the first wrt160n IP value, configure the wireless settings, and then disable the DHCP server on it. You can do the same thing for the second router wrt160n - IP is the 192.168.25.3 value, configure the wireless settings and turn off the DHCP server on it.

I m relatively new in the arena of router´s and the I m of learning (sorry if I make stupid questions), in this case I m trying to access the usb connection of the internet storage (Yes, I ve set up DDNS and also I ve the WRT160NL in DMZ mode) and I ve had some problems "cascading" correctly the Linksys router and the the my ISP's who is a modem/router.

  While I was reading the discussions related to the storage of that link it am fell on this screenshot a WRT600N where FTP set up is fairly simple. My question is: how will I achieve the same for the WRT160NL? Although it would be great, I m does not have the same user interface, but perhaps a set of instructions... is this possible?

  Unfortunately WRT160NL doesn't have the function "FTP server". Routers like WRT350N, WRT600N, WRT610N, E3000 has this function.
