• Need router and switches for simple network tips...

  I have to get a new router and switch to an office with 9 computers, 1 printer, and a server.  They are all Mac computers. Two Mac computers are running Windows XP through Parrallels (not sure if it matters).  All computers have just need access to the Internet (through the router), access to the printer and 5 of them on the server.  A few more important details: the router will be located about a quarter of a mile away (where we could get a broadband Internet access) but will have a fiber optic cable running to the office, where will be the selector. In the building off site where the router, we would like to have a backup disk to send important files at the end of each day (or set up to do this automatically later).  The optical fiber has capacity of the card.  We want that the router must be connected only (wireless).  Any suggestion that router and switch combo would be enough?  Thank you!

  You can use a RVS4400 router that has a gigabit capacity with 4 ports, connected to the gigabit switch.

• How is the best way to connect the configuration of my router and switch?

  I have a cable modem. connect to a switch, I have 2 computers connected to the switch. I also just connected my router wireless switch. That's the best configuration or I lose my firewall of the router in passing is not by ports directly above?

  Most of the cable modems will give an IP address, so connect a switch to the modem and then connection of two computers and a router to the switch will usually result in one of these three devices, get an IP address (and internet connection), while the other two will not be.  (Notice that I guess a true "Modem" and not a "Modem/Router" device).  The correct configuration would be to connect your router to the modem (router gets the unique IP address).  The router can then process from the addresses IP what either side LAN of the router, then plug the devices you need (including switch) to the router's LAN ports.  This also ensures that all devices will be on the same subnet that your connection scheme to separate devices on the router wireless from the other two devices on the switch (here, assuming that you have a router/Modem device).

  just uninsralled o2 connection manager and tatara tmp disappeared, so his tied up with the o2 connection manager I did as the connection manager as it shows the use of services to mobile broadband, but I fear its useless if he messes about connect me to my router home as tatara tmp thanks o2

  Please remove the etherchannel port f0/24 of the switch configuration and store it in the trunk.

  Configure f0 on the router as trunk I think has 877, a switchport which fe interfaces are a part of. To display the corresponding Lass on the router, that you need to configure the VLANS corresponding on the router, then only the Lass will be in a State of going / up otherwise it will be in a down state.   Hello.

  I have a small question.

  I implemented a simple extended ACL.

  ip licensing 10.10.10.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255

  refuse an entire ip

  It is enabled on the SVI interface IN direction with ip 10.10.10.1/24.

  When I test with the ping from the router to a network blocked from using the interface (SVI) source ACL does not work.

  Example: ping source 172.16.1.5 10.10.10.1 = success.

  This should not be blocked and only allow traffic to 192.168.1.0/24?

  So my questions. The ACL effect on the interface of the router itself and only other hosts on the subnet / vlan? (I think I remember having read about it, but can't find it)

• WRT600N advanced routing problems / use as Access Point and switch

  Firmware 1.01.36 build 4 The WRT600N is connected to an existing LAN and is really only used as a Wireless N access point. There is nothing plugged into the WAN port; only the LAN port. I have NAT disabled. All traffic from a client connected to the WRT600N wireless going very well for the gateway and the Internet router. The customer experience is very good. However, there are a few minor issues as follows.

  1] Setup > Advanced Routing tab has only the following options; to do this, * not * have a picker 'Mode '. NAT, static routing and dynamic routing (RIP).    IS this NORMAL, OR should HAVE a MODE (e.g. switch) AS REFERRED to IN THE HELP FILES?

  [2] even if a connection wireless or wired to the WRT600N works very well, the WRT600N himself is unable to connect to the internet. It cannot connect to NTP to set the time and I can't ping past the gateway router using the ping of the WRT600N diagnostic utility. I ping the gateway 192.168.1.4 port inside, but I can't use the diagnostic the WRT600N ping ping utility something beyond this gateway port. The routing of the WRT600N table is below. THE GATEWAY SHOULD NOT BE 192/168.1.4? HOWEVER THE WRT600N DON'T ME LETS NOT CHANGE IT.

  Topic 1. Linksys, used to have a mode option to switch between the modes 'Bridge' and 'router '. The latest routers call it now better NAT power. Gateway mode means THAT NAT is enabled. Router mode means THAT NAT is disabled. The help files are probably a little bit over. But the option is still the same.

  Re 2. It's normal if you use it as only access point (i.e. do not use the WAN port). The router always takes into account that the internet connection via the WAN port, i.e. it will always use the default gateway on the WAN port. If nothing is connected to the WAN port on the router itself has no default gateway and therefore has no access to the internet. Generally, you are not able to establish the default route in either advanced routing page. It is a known limit of these routers if you do not use as a router.

• Can ping the router and the computers to the network, but not beyond router

  I have 2 computers in linux and 3 Windows XP computers.  All can ping the router and inside my network.  Anyone can browse the internet.  None can ping outside my network (google.com or its IP address) if connected directly via the switch or router.  Traceroute shows stopping at the router.  Router firewall is disabled.  Ping on the router tool not working anymore. Linksys WRT54G Router is and I've just updated to firmware 4.21.1 but the old firmware is has never worked. I use 192.168.1.1 for the router.  Linux has some IP fixed all the other usind DHCP.  ISP is a provider of mobile phone to the modem.  Just like cable or DSL, I guess.  I've looked everywhere with no solutions.  Anyone have any ideas?

  Now, since both can do DHCP and DNS I was wondering what you use and what best practice would be?

  I would look at the RV instead as your dhcp if you do not have a windows or Linux system can do, and who would be more ideal

• Dual WAN router and protocol binding

  Hello! I'm trying to find a dual WAN router with support VPN, which allow me to redirect part of the traffic to a specific port WAN and balancing of this specific traffic in the case of this WAN failure (the latter is preferred but is not entirely necessary) load.

  RV042/G could help me with this? In this case, allow redirection Protocol only? What port/ip forwarding? Or some sort of filtering of packets to redirect to specific WAN ports?

  Hi Jose, RV0XX model (g) supports a protocol source LAN link to extended network destination set. It can be a host of high-end LAN or a single host LAN. It may be the customer service or all services. In the case of a failure of network SCOPE, all links in the Protocol are "ignored" and switch to the active WAN until normal operation is restored.

• Why my xbox getting kicked out of router and sometimes subsistence have limited connectivity

  I have an Xbox 360 that works on all other routers very well so I know very well that this is not my wireless card. When sharing the internet threw a computer to the same router there is no problem. the computer uses a wireless card. so I do not understand why the computer share internet with a xbox there is no problem with the router but the Xbox connection it itself using a wireless card (and the Xbox is still closer to the router to the computer) has horrible problems such as disconnection without reason. and sometimes the connection and all I can do is communicate with fried but nothing else. and this is a new router because the other was replaced because he was falling packages. This new router is now a RT-AC66R. It's actually pretty cool, I can walk like three blocks away and still have the wifi on my phone. My xbox is about ten feet away from him and the computer is about fifteen feet away. and now my new problem is that I can run is no longer an Ethernet cable to the computer to share internet. because the computer sees the xbox but xbox does not see the pc. or rather the xbox has failed the test of pc. and also, I can share is no longer my internet with another pc. I changed the map from one pc to the other wireless and connect the pc with the wireless card without problem. and this is supposed to have an incorrect ip address. and if you return it the problem are the same now that with the wireless card works, but cannot share internet with each other. and before there was no problem of internet sharing. but I could see the other pc also not one way or another. I solved this problem and now the PC can not only see each other they can copy cut and delete files on the other pc and the media. but it's when I can share is more of the internet with the xbox. and now the xbox can not see ether pc. and I thought that was the problem, so I disabled the sharing and then it still doesn't work. I have even made the system restore and that did nothing. I have been reading forums for two days now and no help no one has the same problem as me. a pc is Windows 7 Professional and the other is running Vista Edition family Basic. Please someone anyone help me im going nuts. I'm about to get a switch, so I don't have to keep switching the ethernet cord so I can have only two things in line at a time. I have also in the future will get a long enough cord to plug the switch directly to the router. but don't have the money to do it right now. I live in a motel and already got in trouble for my landlord to reset the old default router so I could do better for my system. then I told her that it was dropping packets. then he replaced. and set up a cage to stop me reset it. but all I have to do is with my finger tilt it upward and I access to the reset button. I have to pay for the internet service and am really frustrated because I tell him something is wrong, but he thinks that his fine because he bought a new router. But if my xbox is still having the same problem do you think it might be the cable from router to the modem Ethernet. but the new router does not drop to all packages and it works beautifully when he wants to. Sometimes it stops just to put a signal and it will stay like that for hours. even unplug for 30 seconds and in him plugging back in does nothing. or do you think it is because it has only a limited number of ip addresses available and put them to save to say ten days instead of one. because by resetting my wireless card and other peoples computers also reset the wireless card when they have problems connecting or it ask for a new ip address. that such use then upwards of all spaces allocated for the connection?
