RS232 slow bed

Hello

I'm reading the information on a sensor RS232 [M.F. meter]. Everything works fine, but I think that my reading is slower than what the manufacturer says I should get.

They said that the standard data frame is 43 characters in length and in the 19.2kBauds this should take a little more 22mSec to transmit and 38.4 kBauds, it should be a little more 11mSec.

The numbers that I get are about 50ms.

I tried to use the VISA and .NET instructions to do the readings, but in both cases, I got the same results.

My basic configuration:

I have init/configure serial port, flash the buffer, and then in a loop, I read in the buffer. [I tried to empty the buffer after reading, but no difference]

How I time how long it takes to read a line in the buffer zone. It is using the two counters of tick and reading the difference.

I am trying to determine what 'real time' mean in my application, and so far, everything is less than 15 Ms reading series seems to be "neck of the bottle. It's not a huge deal, but if I can improve it better.

[similar editing]

I will appreciate any help you can give me to help improve it or point in the right direction.

LV2011DevSuite, Win7,

Are you sure that the device sends data consecutively, or is there a gap between data packets?

It can take only 22 ms 11 ms to transmit actual data, but there may be a break between the actual packages that the device is do its thing and prepare the next packet of data for transmission.

  • Slow reads as follows: my data is meaningful to use with Berkeley DB?

    Hello

    My speed of insertion is wonderful, but I feel slow bed. It may be the way I use the sliders.

    My key is a double. My data looks like this: (int X, int dontcare, int dontcare1, dontcare2 byte [8]).

    I'm trying to do a 'select' statement that uses a slider to look through a RANGE of keys. In this range, the cursor looks like inside the data to find specific records which have a particular value of X (int). I ask if my data is logical to use with Berkeley DB because to find records in the beach is fast (VERY fast), but to iterate through all the records in the range, open the data and then analyze int X to see if X == someparticularvalue seems to be very slow. Because I go INTO the data to find particular values of X, this prevents me from using the getSearchBothRange() method.

    PSEUDOCODE:
    COUNTER = 0
    Open a cursor
    getSearchKeyRange to find the key value closest to you at the beginning of my range of keys
    WHILE the value of getnextnodup is still in the range I'm looking for & & COUNTER < LIMIT_NUM_OF_RECORDS
    get data
    IF data.x is particularValue
    memorize the current folder
    counter ++
    END IF
    END WHILE

    (because Berkeley DB forces the user to manage low level to research, I fear that I use one) not correctly b) do not effectively research the sliders. I could remove the "counter < limit_num_of_records" and put it in my IF statement and break when the condition is met, but I don't think it really makes a huge difference over time.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you
    Julian

    Julian,

    I hope that I don't mislead you. This only works if the values of k1 are sequential and known in advance.

    int k2 = ...
    for (double k1 = start; k1 <= end; k1 += 1) {
        // make a key {k1, k2}
        // call Database.get or Cursor.getSearchKey
    }

    If this is not possible, you will need to return to an analysis of the values of k1 and select by k2. Sorry if I'm wrong you.

    There is nothing magical about the queries I. The only mechanism underlying query is key or key range. You can add secondary keys for additional requests, but only if you have a unique primary key.

    The same is true for all databases in general. If you were using a language such as SQL query, the query would likely be implemented internally by scanning of a range of key for k1 and selecting by k2.

  • [rs232.h] ComRd (-) slow performance

    Dear users,

    I am a student in electronic engineering of approach to obtaining his diploma with a thesis on the absolute error in gsm positioning.

    I create the server application to receive an sms (at THE controls of a Siemens TC35 gsm module connected rsr232) with the RAD_ERROR_NOCONTENT information by the mobile station of the client, to develop them in order to send (using API) Google to retrieve the position with a given RAD_ERROR_NOCONTENT.

    I meet a lot of problem with ComRd which is quite slow, for example in the configuration of the connection, I need six blocks like this (one for each parameter) and total execution takes more than 15 seconds:

    **********************************************************************

    FlushInQ (ComPort);
    strcpy (writeBuf, "at clip plus 1\r"); Presentation of the identification of the appellant
    ComWrt (compote, writeBuf, strlen (writeBuf));
    Delay (0.2);
    ComRd (compote, readbuf, 10); ATTENTION! Slow down execution, even with 'ComRdTerm (compote, readBuf, 10, 0)';
    If (! findstr (readBuf, "OK", & indexBuf)) setErr = 0; check if OK responded

    **********************************************************************

    Breakpointed to the first statement and follows step by step execution, if any other statements are executed immediately, on ComRd it takes seconds. even if reading only 10 bytes. Even if I use ComRdTerm until the 0 (null).

    I can't explain why, reading only ten bytes of rs232 buffer, it takes so long. There is no time-out problem, the command is not hanging from something else!

    Can someone help me please?

    Thank you

    Luca Gallucci

    Hi Luca,

    You needn't 0.2 seconds after the call to ComWrt.

    You can directly call the ComRd, the time it takes for the GSM modem process your order and the answer is actually tolerated by the value of timeout of the port, which can be set by the SetCommTime function.

    It is possible that you are missing the answer during this wait 0.2 second.

    I highly recommend use ComRdTerm, because you may know exactly how many bytes will be after an AT command and this can cause problems because he must give the number of bytes to read into the port when you use ComRd.

    But it is guaranteed that a response of AT command will end with a CR or LF.

    Let's not how you call ComRdTerm. You must use CR or LF as end, not NULL character.

    The GSM modem will never send you a NULL character, then the function will wait until the read operation times out (because it cannot end on a NULL value), where the downturn in behavior complained.

    I hope I could make myself clear.

  • iMac 2010 slower that a turtle stuck in the mud after having swallowed the glue

    Since upgrading to OS X El Capitan (from factory 10.6 Snow Leopard), my poor iMac have been incredibly slow. To the point where eventually it still would not start.

    Since I have everything of importance on an external hard drive, I just went ahead and started from the install disc, go for a clean install.

    It took several attempts for the system to boot from disk (starting with C) before finally reading the disk and load the language selection screen. It took almost three days to go through the own installation process. And I mean everyday! Each step takes several hours. I had two beds in this horrible process!

    Finally, I registered and through on the desktop. How he was always slow that I felt a stop down was in order. I left for the day. I just go back and press the power button and watched the gray screen with spinner logo and daisy apple during the last 30 minutes.

    Does anyone have any ideas why this might be. I appreciate, it's a six year old machine, but my experience with Apple computers over the past 15 years has been such that I don't expect to die after only six years.

    My guess is that it is a problem of hard disk of a certain type? But if someone could point me in the right direction, I'd be happy.

    Thanks in advance.

    It should of course not take three days to install OS X, even if the Mac is a former model.  My 2011 mini ran Mac OS X El Capitan (and currently macOS tracks Sierra) very well, and it has the lowest overall performance compared to an iMac of 2010.

    It took several attempts for the system to boot from the disk (starting with C)

    El Capitan is not installed on a drive, if you are saying you reinstalled Snow Leopard first?  That is what is running slowly or not at all?

    Here are a few things to try...

    Because you have previously installed El Capitan, depending on how you launched the "clean install", its partition Recovery HD hidden is maybe still there internal hard disk.  Press command-R to start.  Here's more information

    On OS X Recovery - Apple Support

    Alternatively, you can start with the Option key to display the Boot Manager screen, which gives you the choice of available startup disk.  See if Recovery HD is an available choice.

    If you can start ("Recovery") as described in the linked document, run disk utility and Erase the internal disk volume.  Then reinstall OS X.  This gives you El Capitan directly, instead of first Snow Leopard install.

    If the internal drive is actually defective, and you have an external USB drive that can be erased, you can (temporarily) install the OS on this external drive.  You should unplug your drive with the user data (if not already done), to avoid accidentally erasing.  You can do this installation of the recovery screen (if you are able to start up the Recovery HD).  If not, you need to install Snow Leopard, first (if everything goes much faster than three days).  Whatever it is, run disk utility (from the menu bar if you have reinstalled Snow Leopard).  Select the external target drive in utility box disc and Erase completely.  Then install OS X on this external drive.

    After installation and reboot, you can reconnect to another external drive with user data and use this way until you replace the internal drive.  If you have installed Snow Leopard, he move to El Capitan, using the normal procedure.

  • Re: Performance very slow Satellite C855-1GN - startup procedure takes 15 min

    My sister bought a Satellite C855-1GN installed with Win7 64bits in December (typical - 4 days of warranty now) and for a time found it getting more slower.

    She asked me to take a look for her, and she is quite right, that this laptop is appalling insensitive to even the most basic tasks such as opening Windows Explorer, which takes more than a minute to open.

    It's a similar story about any button on this machine, sometimes longer depending on what has been clicked. Getting even the startup thing of press office being visible (and even less usable) takes a staggering 15 minutes more.

    Text input, such the password of user to connect to Windows, or a URL in any browser (IE and chrome installed by default) causes the circle of rotation equivalent to an hourglass at least 60 seconds before anything happens, as does pretty much any click button. For example, Windows Start button or right click on anything whatsoever.

    Initially, I suspected some kind of malware / too much garbage installed. A ran full scans, no problem. Disabled / uninstalled all the bloatware, that I could find, still no difference.
    Close all the features, always terribly slow for energy savings.

    Windows experience / Task Manager / resmon all report nothing out of the ordinary or anything by eating resources. In desperation, provided Out Of Box Experience with the help of the hidden restore partition... who took more than 24 hours to complete, and is not an exaggeration.

    I went to bed, then work during the day, and he had not yet finished until I had been home for a couple of hours.

    This machine now has a completely new (although specific Toshiba) install Win7, and runs just as horribly slow. I'm still waiting for the office, 17 minutes after power on before typing this. It took several resets and is yet to install anything.

    6 GB of RAM is ample. While not a P3, 5 or 7, there is no way that an Intel B950 double heart clocked to a class, certainly not top than 2.10 GHz can be this slow (that is a few months ago), I had the terrible Celeron in my time, which were infinitely faster than that.

    Has anyone else had a performance of same pathos of this model? If so, we are anyone of you is able to solve it? Or should we bin just this paperweight?

    Hello

    In the past, we've discussed several times on similar problems, and some people were dissatisfied with the performance of the portable nine pre-installed with original recovery image.
    Small example, you can check this thread. In general it is described you can do with this machine. You, I prefer to use the word optimize operating system preinstalled. It will run better and faster.

    Otherwise it can also be problem with HARD drive. If your sister love this machine, I recommend a small investment in new hardware. Exchange HARD SSD drive. SSD aren't so cheap anymore so you can buy one, I would say, with 250 GB and I think that there is enough free space for their work.

    You can't imagine how fast they are. I use on my old P500. Laptop starts in just 40 seconds.

    I m pretty sure with new SSD and optimized original Win7 that you got your sister with this laptop will have a good and pretty fast machine.

  • serial communication - program is slow

    Hello community,

    I have a problem: I'm using LabVIEW to communicate with a CPU with RS232, but the program is extremely slow. In this configuration (it's a minimal example), it takes about 8 seconds to send a new string. What could be wrong? (I'm a beginner)

    The program of mission is to prepare a string containing incrementing values and send over the UART.

    Thanks for your help!

    The yellow bulb is to highlight execution.  It is strictly a debugging tool.  Your turn that to slow down execution and be able to see how the data passes through the wires.

    Disable execution of climax, and it will run at full speed.

    But how do you use this VI?  You have not a while loop and you have not told me if an another VI call this VI.  So this VI runs only once and then stops.

    (Please don't tell me you use run continuously the button which is also strictly a debugging tool.)

  • Slow Signal acquisition

    Hello

    I'm still an inexperienced user and just started to compose the new laboratory in modules, the software Subvi. The file in the annex shows the arrangement. The problem is that writing and plotting are 50% faster, it should be. I.e. after 10 sec 5 seconds are drawn and written. I tried already to have writing file and the path in different loops, but the problem remains the same. I also ran an older code that has not all Subvi and there, data acquisition (score and writing) went as it should. So I guess the problem is buried in the code, but I'm not (already checked the forums).

    I'm a bit under the pressure of time at the end of this program, and therefore a quick help is very appreciated.

    Thank you!

    RUF,

    The fact that a part of the code is in a Subvi is not the problem.  SubVIs have a very small ovehead which is totally negligible in your case.

    I see several things that can contribute to your performance problems:

    1. you save each other data point to the file and draw those XY graph between 0.  Is - this intentional?

    2 gain. you a point at once (per channel) and then write it to the file.  This means about 50 DAQ bed and 50 written to file in the Subvi, another bed DAQ 50 and 50 entries on the chart per second.  Writing to the file can be quite slow. Write faster that the eye can meet a graph of fornt Panel soon. Can you keep it up, or you get buffer overflow errors?

    3. perform the calcuations inside the loop that never change losing time.  Make a time outside of the loop. (rate from 1/100).

    4. you take scalar, build them in tables an element, convert to dynamic data type, cross the XY Graph VI Express Build (which converts in wavefroms, then back to tables) by two points and then draw on XY Grpah 0.  A fiber node would do most of this in a single step.  But what is the value of a graph of a point?

    Solutions.

    1. define exactly what data you need to acquire, what data you need to back up, and what data you need to display.  You specify that data loss is expensive.  What is the most likely cause of data loss? Slow performance of your program? Power cuts? Something else?  The data used while being acquired or only after the test is complete?  I suspect the latter because you indicate you could write later if there is no risk of data loss.

    2. consider architecture of producer/consumer for your program.  This would have the DAQ bed in separate (producer) loop.  The only other thing in the loop of the producer would be a queue or some other mechanism to transfer the data to the consumer hand strap. The loop of consumer would accumulate data and periodically written to the file and update the graph.  Loops could (and probably should) run at different speeds.  Look at the design of producer/Consumre models that ship with LV, how much have you read in each iteration of the producer and how often the consumer records in the file and updates the data graphic depend on the results of the proposal 1.  I don't know the time wherever you have now is far from optimal.

    3. clean loops. Loop iteration/frequency = (1/frequency) * iteration of the loop.

    4 in the loop of the consumer shift registers will probably be how to collect the data for the chart and the file.  You should never send the chart more points than there are pixels in the plot.  Plot graph XY 0 has a width of the box 624 pixels.  If you never send more than 624 points, LV will compress the data (in a way that is not good publicity) the number of pixels on the screen.  So don't send tens of thousands of points on the graph.  Insert in the table can cause problems with the memory allocations and speed when used in a loop.  Use initialize the array outside of the loop and replace a subset of table inside.

  • The instructions of different via RS232

    Hello
    First sorry for my English and thanks to google translate

    I'm trying to communicate with a receiver via the RS232 port.
    The instructions should be sent are like this:

    RF8507000
    MD2
    AT1
    BW1

    My concern is to send the data in writing "visa".
    In fact, I found a solution using a "constant line end" at the end of each command.
    but this has slowed the sending of information.
    When I send a single frame, the transfer immediately, but this approach does not satisfy me, because I want to send several different information.
    I thought I would send only frames this change in the buffer, but I don't see how.
    Do you think my title is good? Or do you have another solution?

    Just in case, however, attached is a variant of your code. While what I've provided may be of some use to you, it is really a crude way of doing things. But I hope you can see the different methods you could use to do what you want.

  • How to synchronize streams RS232 and GPIB in labview

    Dear all, SOS.

    I built a system with 2 instruments GPIB and serial RS232 1 instrument.

    The VI works well with high light performance. But when I run the program normally with games step by step, what I get is only the stream GPIB. The serial data is not found after reading the GPIB data.

    I wonder if there is a sync issue. If so, how can I get these two data streams synchronized?

    BTW: I was trying to use the RS232-GPIBCVA converter to connect GPIB, but always had error6 at visa read. I still can't understand. Without the GPIB-RS232 converter, data can be read with the series making.

    I'm fighting this case several days, hope you guys can give me some suggestions!  Thank you very much!

    Zhenxing

    A quick glance and I don't know why you need all local variables. And even if you have bunches of error wired inside all of these structures from sequence (you should also get rid of), you have not connected to the indicators or pass them to the sequence of the sequence. I have a question some of your other codes. With each iteration of the inner loop, you can reset each instrument. It is highly unlikely that you need to reset or initialize the serial port more than once.

    You will need to also get rid of the constant cable outside during the end of the Terminal loop. Using the button abandon, this isn't the right way to stop a program.

    Highlight the performance slows down the program in a little. You may need to add some delay. Run in normal mode and set breakpoints so that most of the code that runs at a normal speed. By the process of elimination, you will finally find the area problem.

    p.s. These are Keithley instruments, you should really try the drivers that are available.

  • its really slow gains. I want to run faster and be more afficent

    its really slow connection... It's just not as fast on foot beds like he used to be.

    Select Start, all programs, accessories, System Tools, cleaning disk to emptying your trash, delete temporary Internet files and other selected options. I recommend also you click Other Options, System Restore and delete all but the last system restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

    Using the system restore option is most appropriate when your system is slow and you need to increase the free disk space on your C partition. If you have errors that could be solved by using the system restore to your system settings back to before the error occurred initially do not use this option.

    If more than one person uses the computer and they have their own user log you need to run Disk Cleanup in each user profile that you want to delete all the unwanted files.

    A better program of disk cleanup is cCleaner but note that cCleaner will not manage system restore points. Remove the old restore points can be important if you have little free disk space. cCleaner comes with a registry tool. Do not use this tool as any registry cleaner could lead to the creation of very difficult to resolve system errors.

    If so, is there a quick way to mark all read emails as read in Windows Mail (Vista)?      .. .in windows Live Mail (Vista)?

    I also regularly get an alert Norton of 'Use of disc high by Microsoft Windows Search Indexer.'  Gravity is the next, and what can I do to fix the problem?

    Finally, I have a lot of folders: would have 2,000 emails in the Inbox Windows (Vista) slow down a computer more than if 2 000 mails were one or more files?   This change of response if the e-mail is unread vs bed?

    #2: the Inbox is accessible by your computer whenever he asks new messages. The fact of having 1,000 messages in the Inbox slow it down? I have no personal experience, since I never have more than a dozen or messages in my Inbox, but it is so likely. If you have lots of free space on the hard disk, the messages would be better in another folder (s). Even if you create more WinMail's local folders and move messages to them.

  • E4200 is slow, YouTube HD videos

    I have the cable @ 15Mbps down, 2Mbps upward. The cable line comes in the attic in my daylight basement. I have 3 Cat-5 cables, running through the House. 1 in the TV downstairs and then 1 to 2 rooms upstairs (which is my home office). In the Home Office, the Cat-5 is connected to a switch 24 ports. I plug my computer printer, NAS, etc. in this switch.

    I have a WRT54G2 v1 I used in my router/access point.

    I have a 1st & 3rd generation iPad. 3 bed iPad videos from YouTube in HD. About 6 weeks ago I started having some slow YouTube video playback on my iPad. They would play a few seconds, then pause to buffer, etc.. It was the videos started playing almost immediately and would never buffer.

    With Wifi Analyzer for Android, I noticed that my neighborhood is saturated with wifi 2.4 GHz. So, I thought that the 2.4 Ghz band is saturdated and if I moved to a 5 GHz band, the buffering of YouTube would be fixed.

    So, I bought an E4200 (v1 I think) Amazon. I bought this router/access point because it supports the 5 GHz band. He had also some other nice features like a separate comments wifi network.

    I have it plugged into my cable modem and installing everything. Always slow YouTube, and now YouTube videos are slow on my laptop (connected via ethernet). I still get ~ 15Mbps via ethernet or wifi using the speed test page provided by my ISP, but YouTube videos are VERY slow.

    Today, I called my ISP today and they made me plug my laptop directly into the modem. I was surprised to see 1080 p YouTube videos load quickly and never buffer.

    So, I returned to my WRT54G2 and plugged my laptop. Always get quick videos.

    At this point, I now use the WRT54G2 as my router/access point, and I have configured my E4200 as an AP and plugged into ethernet.

    I'm on my iPad connected to the strip of the 5 GHz on the E4200, which is connected to the WRT54G2 using ethernet, and I can watch YouTube videos without problem.

    It seems that when the E4200 is used as a router, I'm getting poor performance of YouTube. My speed on other sites seemed to go well, including video streaming from Amazon.

    I really want to use the E4200 as my router/access point because it allows the network to comments. And then I set up the WRT54G2 as Access Point to provide the best coverage WiFi and connect it to the switch in my home office (because it is higher in the House, I suspect it would provide a stronger signal).

    My question is: is this a configuration issue with the E4200? Or is it possible the E4200 is defective and I should send him a replacement?

    It turned out that the DIF is that YouTube does not like a MTU of 1500. I dropped it to 1 460 and it works much better. I would like to know if there is a bigger problem however.
