running centOs 6.3 KVM under esxi 5.1

Hi all

I try to run CentOs Linux with KVM under esxi 5.1, is this possible?

I'm trying to load kvm_intel, but I have error.

Thank you

Lucas

You may need your VM upgraded to Virtual Hardware 9 in order to have the ungreyed checkbox.

Power off the virtual machine, right-click on the virtual machine and choose upgrade virtual hardware. Who's going to format virtual material 9.

Then use the web client to check the box for "expose hardware assisted virtualization to the o/s.

Fix.  It is possible to use the HV virtualized under ESXi 5.0 on systems without EPT/IVR, but not recommended, due to underperformance miserably.  When we officially launched the functionality in ESXi 5.1, we decided to not support the hosts without EPT/IVR, because the feature was not the quality of the products.

  • How to get a virtual camera to work? the host is Lenovo W550s running CentOS 7.1, guest is Windows 7 Professional

With VMware Workstation Pro 11 and now 12 never got 'virtual camera' to work.  Do not find documentation, only advice, this should work, exist.

Active host computer is Lenovo W550s running CentOS 7.1.  Camera works very well in host in CentOS in the cheese.  As a removable device, it appears as "Chicony Camera integrated".  But appears later in the guest PC Window 7 Professional.  VMware Tools in the comments are the latest version, now for VMware Workstation Pro 12.

Any chance install USB driver for camera (not found), so not excited to get 'virtual camera' to work.

    Intended use is GoToMeeting.

What happens when you connect the device to the prompt?

    I did a test with my laptop HP - Win7 host - player 12.0

Guest - VMware Tools Win7 updated at the latest.

Built-in laptop webcam shows as a "Webcam Chicony HP HD"

First image - tooltip for the player as I hover.

    Right-click the menu actions.

After selecting the connection (unplug the host)

When the guest saw the unit it is passed to Windows Update to search for a driver... and he did take a few minutes... but he was installing finally successfully.

    Windows features in the comments.

And finally a picture taken with the webcam works inside the guest.

  • File under ESXi versus NAS appliance server

We have a Netapp file server that is used for sharing files using SMB 2.0

I want to virtualize file services, since I have all the other virtualized servers

I came across two solutions for this under ESXi 5.1

    • Use the Windows Server 2008 R2 or Server 2012 file services role
    • Use Enterprise Martin http://www.Sanbolic.com/web_serving.htm . This option seems to bring some nice features on the single use of Windows Server

I did that three actions files with a be 2 TB, the other two are much smaller. If I virtualize file server, that I need to use virtual RDM or iSCSI initiator of Microsoft to present a volume of more than 2 TB.

Any thoughts on virtualization of files under ESXi 5.1 services?

With Windows 2008 R2, it can be done with Failover Clustering, and there are some things to know I suggest checking the document "Setup for Microsoft Cluster Service and Failover Clustering."

I know Martin Enterprise, so I can't speak to that one.

  • Limit the software and Services that run in the Service Console in ESXi 4.0?

How to limit the software and Services running in the Services Console in ESXi 4.0?

    Hello.

There is no Service in ESXi Console, and it is not really a lot of apps for ESXi either. Policy and/or limited access is the best way to limit these things.

  • How to configure port forwarding on a dedicated server running CentOS 5.4 to use Ubuntu 9.0.4

The basic situation that I have is a dedicated server running CentOS 5.4 for the moment I have a virtual machine running Ubuntu 9.0.4. Later, I want to add a virtual computer that is running Windows Server 2003, but right now I focus on the implementation and running Ubuntu.

The installation of Ubuntu works very well, but I am seriously struggling to get the port forwarding so I can visit the Web sites to be hosted on the Ubuntu VM. As a newbie on Linux, I am confused about the relationship between IPTables and VMWare own port forwarding.

Here's what I've tried so far.

My server's IP address is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, provider support told me that the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, gateway address is xxx.xxx.xxx.1 and the network address is xxx.xxx.xxx.0. (These last two surprises me a little, I'd expect to be private rather than public gateway/network address).

First of all, I tried Bridged Networking, but had no luck contacting the machine other than through the VMware console. I tried it the ping from the host (using ssh in the host), but no joy. also no Inernet access from the VM. I changed the configuration of the DHCP server to static interfaces, using a static address 192.168.1.100 and by assigning to the doors of such xxx.xxx.xxx.1 as advised by the supplier. No real difference, still cannot ping the host prompt, or vice versa and any of the customer's Internet access.

Then I tried NAT. The host automatically 192.168.132.128 with a 192.168.132.2 gateway IP address now, the client has access to the Internet and when I do a VNC host and open Firefox with 192.168.132.128 I can see the correct hosted Web site but I still can't get in from the outside.

I mentioned that I am a bit confused about IPtables and VMware port forwarding, what I wanted to say, it is that I'm not sure if IPtable transfer must be set to the IP address of the interface of comments (192.168.132.128 in this case) or the address of the 192.168.132.2 bridge.

I have the impression that I'm missing something simple here, can someone tell me what it is?

Find your "/ etc/vmware/vmnet8/nat/nat.conf" file and change:

    Example:

    \[incomingtcp]

    8887 = 192.168.27.128:80

That would redirect a header of TCP packet entering the port 8887 on the host on port 80 of the guest with the IP 192.168.27.128.

    Ditto for the UPD:

    \[incomingudp]

    6000 = 192.168.27.128:6001

You can (must) use iptables for firewall purposes but does not redirect traffic at the prompt.

I can convert Windows servers on the ESX Server without any problems. Can someone translate this myself and I would like to know how to work around errors?

    Thank you

    Shannon

On the Linux server you are converting.  When the converter reaches step 3 Options display/change the last option is called Helper VM Network.  You can change this option and add an ip address.  The ip address must be on the same network to your default gateway on your Linux server.

  • Run the Workstation 8 under ESXi 5.0?

Quick question: is it possible to run a virtual Windows on ESXi 5.0 machine and then run 8 Workstation with 64-bit VM nested?

For example, I want to run:

    1. ESXi 5.0: on physical hardware
    2. Virtual MACHINE running on ESXi 5.0: running Windows 7 64 - bit with VMware Workstation 8

If you use dhcp on your network, run the follow command:

    eth0 - v #dhclient

If you use the static ip address, run the follow command:

    #ifconfig eth0 IPADDRESS

    for example:

    eth0 192.168.0.1 #ifconfig

  • VM under ESXi 4.0 recognizes as USB NIC

    Hello

I have a Dell PowerEdge R300 running under VMware ESXi 4.0 license.

The server has built-in network card Intel Gigabit AND Dual Port, and I added an another PCIe Broadcom NetXtreme II 5709.

I installed Windows Server 2003 virtual machine, and after complete installation, the 2003 recognize the USB network card and displays the icon in the systray.

This allows me to "Remove hardware safely'-> 'remove Intel PRO 1000/MT".

Of course if I do that I lose the networking on this server... Jac's for "security".

Anyway, when I created the virtual machine, I used the default values of VMware NIC adapter E1000.

I could choose E1000, Flexible, VMXNET (improved) 2 and 3 VMXNET.

Is it possible to disable the deletion of the Windows NETWORK card? Or I must stop the virtual machine, install another NETWORK card and restart?

    Thank you.

    Hello

It is advisable to install the vmware tools in the comments. I always recommend you to install the vmware tools.

You're talking about the issue of vNIC, is not really a bug, is a new feature called hot plug-vNIC.

Anyway is to disable to avoid accidentally remove it the vNIC, you can disable the connection to hot network card following this procedure:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1012225&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&dialogID=64244650&StateID=0%200%2067543541

The steps above does not affect snap-ins not to hot memory/cpu.

    A saludo/best regards,.

Windows hangs at startup while displaying a black screen with logo and won round progress indicator.

There are always two or more CPUs stuck in KeFlush...() functions dealing with IPIs.

The problem looks like interrupt loss during IPI-ALL-BUT-SELF dispatching, we tried to track possible problems in KVM code that may lead to an issue like this but found nothing so far.The issue looks even more interesting taking into consideration that as far as we know CPU grouping is SW-only feature that doesn't have real effect on hardware. We will be grateful for any idea that could help to resolve the problem. Thanks in advance!P.S. Kernel crash dump is available at https://www.dropbox.com/s/07qb6wz9nacwhxn/MEMORY.DMP.zip?dl=0
