RV110W and WDS

I have a RV110, and I am interested to extend the reach of the WiFi using WDS function.

Simply indicates the data sheet RV110W... "can wireless be repeated signals by up to 3 compatible devices,"

Where can I find these "devices", and has anyone had success using WDS with any APs of the range of SMB products?

Thank you

Hello Chris,

All Small Business support WDS Access Points.  You can take a look at the different models of AP here:

http://www.Cisco.com/Cisco/Web/solutions/Small_Business/products/wireless/index.HTML-tab-AccessPoints

I have install WDS for several clients successfully.

The only thing to keep in mind is that, for each position (or access point) that you repeat until the line speed on the remote will be reduced by half.

Also several of thewireless routers support WDS, so you can use another RV110W for example.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Does anyone know if the WDS compatible WRT54GS v5? I tried to connect a Terminal to Airport Express via WDS and that never works. My only assumption is that the linksys is not compatible with WDS.

I use the latest Linksys firmware.

    Thanks, people.

The WRT54G/S does not support WDS advanced by the official Linksys firmware.  It supports a bit a 'lazy WDS', but which really only works with the WRE54G.  If you want some real WDS, you need to use a different firmware.  If you are interested in where to get these, PM me, or there are many other people here who can give you directions.

  • ESX 3.5i Guest OS Architecture (x 86 vs. x 64) and WDS

I ran into a bit of a jam while creating and image VM ESX 3.5i with WDS deployment. Here is some information:

I have VMWare ESXi 3.5 (Build 153875) installed on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 (Xeon Quad Core 2.5, 16 GB, 1 TB HD).

    Guest operating system 1: Windows Server 2003 R2 (SP2), x 86 Standard edition w / WDS

Specifications: 1 processor, 2 GB, LSI Logic, 1 NIC. Specified OS type as "Windows 2003 Server 32-bit" in the new Wizard of VM.

    Installed services: WDS, DHCP

    2 guest OS: Windows Server 2003 R2 (SP2), x 64 Standard edition

Specifications: 2 processors, 4GB, LSI Logic, 1 NIC. Specified OS type as "Windows 2003 Server 64-bit" in the new Wizard of VM.

    Installation services: by default

I want to be able to capture an image of Guest OS 2 and deploy it as a new systems of operating client 64-bit on 64-bit virtual machines.

    Here's the process I followed:

Generalize the OS 2 by using sysprep (sysprep-mini - reseal - reboot), restarts, PXE boot in WDS capture WinPE image, image capture and stop.

At this point, I see an x 64 image of architecture in the side WDS image store server.

I create new OS choosing "Windows 2003 Server 64-bit" in the new computer Assistant virtual guest. Make sure that the hardware specification corresponding exactly to that of the 64-bit OS prompt that I copied in the previous step. When I PXE boot the new VM 64 bits in the WDS configuration, I do not see 64-bit created earlier in the image image store: only 32-bit images. I enabled the detection of Architecture WDS (wdsutil/set-Server /ArchitectureDiscovery:Yes). At the start of the new VM PXE, WDS detects it as 64-bit (it shows that information during the process to boot PXE - Architecture: x 64) but WDS does not show the 64-bit image.

The WinPE installation WDS boot image is 32-bit. From what I've heard, it's ok because the 32-bit WinPE will allow deployments of 64-bit image. Is this correct?

What I need to know is how to force a 32-bit virtual computer architecture or 64-bit, or how to specify a static type of HAL to all virtual machines newly created. This will solve the problem?

If the HALS is different for each virtual computer, WDS I cannot install the 64-bit image.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve

Have you looked at templates, much simpler method to deploy virtual machines.  It is good for physical systems, but for environments of VM, models is what you want.

Basically, you start with a virtual machine that you use for your virtual machines.  Change it in any way you want, then save it as a template or convert it.  Later, you can clone and make new models...

    Rinse and repeat if necessary.

There are instructions on how to make work of sysprep, but it's easy, just copy the sysprep command (latest version works) on the VC and personalization Server deploys there the command sysprep on a virtual computer and changes by customization parameters, also in the CR.

  • RV110W access point / bridge mode?

    Hi guys,.

    I have a few questions on RV110W.

I would like to install wifi on my local network access, I have gateway with wan, web filtering etc. etc.. I just want a good wifi access point.

So why I want to equip with a RV110W and not a normal access point? It's just my boss want mandatory limitation of the internet access of planning by hours, days ~ ~ and guest access. Another detail, my local network have not all dhcp.

So, in the first place. Can I plug my lan rj45 on switch of RV110W port for internet by my current gateway?

If I set the limitation of the internet, has done this job of feature on switch port wireless access?

If I put the dhcp on RV110W (for example 192.X.X.5 to 192.X.X.10) and I identify the ip address on my other gateway for internet access (filtering fortigate), can I put the dhcp on RV110W only on wifi or it will assign ip on other devices on my LAN?

    Thank you very much!

Hi Ash, you can connect the RV110W by a switch port to another router.

Dhcp RV110W is not customizable to the point where you can specific to your other router IP of the gateway.

If active RV110W dhcp would provide DHCP what accept DHCP.

You may want to look into WAP121 or WAP321.

  • Cisco router: RV110W

I am installing a Cisco RV110W router in my network, currently I have a service contract with TalkTalk broadband, which uses PPOA to connect to the internet. They advised me to put the router in that had mode bridged, what I've done. Te router that they provided is a D-Link DSL-2680.

After plugging the ethernet to the WAN of the Cisco port cable and port LAN 1 of the D-link I can't get the Cisco to initialize the internet.

I select the PPPoE function in the Cisco router, however, when you use the D-Link router, it's usually a PPoA VC Mux connection. It doesn't seem to be an option to select a PPPoA connection in the Cisco router.

When it try to connect there is no response from my modem/router in Bridge mode.

I would use the Cisco router with my current router in this way. If this is not possible, I would like to give the address IP of Cisco have all computers on the network through the Cisco route before arriving to the internet enabling my firewall and access control setting etc to work. I don't know if this would work but that I would use the VPN and QoS options on the cisco too.

Is it possible to have the D-link router/modem function normally and connect the LAN of the D-Link port to the LAN/WAN port on my new cisco to achieve without forcing cisco to connect to the internet and to recognize the connection?

    Any help is very appreciated.

Here you can see the Cisco GUI; Launch the emulator from device online

The different subnet mask thing that should not be, it was just to avoid having two routers using the same network, which has taken care of by changing the 2680 to 192.168.0.1.

You're right about the strange gateway on the WAN connection, it should be 192.168.0.1 (2680).  I think it might be the problem, because your pings are never power the 2680, the RV110W routing table sends those 192.168.0.2 for some reason any.

I'm going to put in place here at home so I can go on it as well, in the average to make sure that you have power cycled at least once, and you might want to try resetting the RV110W and setting up again (what you have done so far has been correct) sound silly I know but sometimes things just stuck.

I put the same scenario here right now, and I'll see if I can make it work.

Oh and the only ping you were missing was the 2680 WAN IP address, but since you can't even ping the router LAN port, it, it won't work anyway, so don't worry it.

  • Why my Macbook Air poster as a bridge to my Wifi network?

We fight network gremlins in our small office.  We have an unnecessarily complicated network topology, but I don't think that the 'complexity' network is the fundamental issue (guess total).  Here's the situation.

Periodically, we have network problems that range from individual devices or IP phones, problems at the Internet, across the Office of failures.  The Internet seems to be stable during the network problems and is also big enough to handle the traffic.  There seems to be no problem with the Internet itself - FYI...  We have a mix of Mac and PC, printers, file server and IP phones using the network.  The network is a mix of wifi devices connected and wired devices (PC/Mac wifi wired connected...printers/phones in General).

The network itself is as follows:

AirOS WAP which does not respect NOT IPs, just toward the life of a HP switch, which in turn is connected to a D-Link router that handles DHCP.  D - Link is then connected to our Internet modem.  The AirOS WAP is used because it is the signal strength and performance are supposed to be better than the performance of the D-Link wifi.  Note: The wifi radio is turned OFF on the D-Link.  All attached devices appear in the ARP table on the device from D-Link (as expected).

But and I finally get to my question on the AirOS my MacBook Air (El Capitan) is displayed in the ARP table under a bridge.  It is the only device that appears in the ARP table besides than the D-Link (showing also as a bridge - what is planned).  In other words, my Mac "is differently from any other device in the office, we want to eliminate as a potential problem."

Any who have thoughts on why my Mac is illustrated as a bridge.  I checked my network settings and nothing seems out of the ordinary on my laptop.  (only the bridge I find together are thunderbolt - that is NOT connected)

I'm sure that someone has an idea or two on why my device showing as a gateway into our network, and if this could be a problem.

    Thank you.

After the Ubiquiti AirOS AP firmware up-to-date have been upgraded - if it is not already there - you have Ubiquiti why their software of AirOS reports what is shown.   AirOS has many configuration options and can be configured to distribute the signals with multiple devices Wi - Fi - what you see here, what version of AirOS is involved, how the device is configured, it is something that people of Ubiquiti are likely better to troubleshoot.

The only way that I expect to see a Mac acting as a bridge is via system preferences > sharing > Internet sharing or maybe lower configurations of command line for access to these parameters.   If Internet sharing is disabled, I would not expect OS X works as a bridge.

I would be the network inventory and nettoieriez configuration.   (Set in bridge) modem, firewall, to move, to cables and AP (s) systems.   I would use connections wired to the APs when possible and WDS where not.

If you have the OS X Server autour (this forum), then those who need static IP addresses and will probably also want to wired connections for performance reasons.

If one of the servers in use is accessible from the outside, we can a required more complex network configuration if you want to isolate the damage caused by a failure of the server.

Wi - Fi can have serious interference problems in some areas.  Interference can wreak havoc with the connections Wi - Fi and AP, that can walls and anything that can block signals.

If it's really a D-Link router (like the series DSR, etc.) and not a D-Link gateway area, these routers are not very effective firewall.   He worked with one of these.   Really hard to guarantee.    Not what they are built, either.

  • Boot PXE T430 problems

First off I would like to list my hardware/software

    MDT/WDS server:

    MDT 2012

    Windows 2008 R2 server

I have a fully working MDT PXE server with a WDS images. Basically, I have a Server TDS who gets the PXE request and then stops on the WDS image to start the imaging process. It works fine on the lenovo thinkcenters ok and I can boot from the CD from the MDT server. But when I boot from the network card I get no response or not DHCP.

-J' downloaded all the drivers for the Thinkpad and they injected into the MDT and WDS for the WINPE image

-J' updated the BIOS to the latest version 2.09

-I can start from the cd very well on my server and pull an ip address

Not sure why this laptop model is a failure on the network boot process... Anyone see the problem?

    Adkyle, my model is:

    Lenovo ThinkPad (2349-KZ4) T430

Last night I let my MDT completely rebuild my boot image rather than update the boot image. Imported image for WDS (PXE) and always start not go.
Now, if I use the CD to boot I can bypass the WDS server and rethink the role of the multidisciplinary team. Forcing the circumvention of the PXE boot. The (already flashed to the lates) BIOS settings do not give many parameters in the network boot box.
Don't know how well I like it, but at least we can boot from the cd of MDT.

  • How default search instead of Windows Search Assistant?

Using XP. Windows Search has been installed with a recent update of the Windows desktop. I use other software for indexing as most of my documents files, binary no text or word. I disabled indexing, but "Windows Search" is always the default when I select "Search for" in a Windows Explorer window.

I can pick him 'click here to use the Search Assistant' at the bottom of the window, but I would have preferred that search companion is the DEFAULT search method.

What do I need to 'twist' to get the default return Research Assistant?

I found the answer here, and it has worked great for me.

    http://www.ehow.com/how_5473226_make-instead-Windows-desktop-search.html

I did have to uninstall Windows Desktop Search.  The change is taken into account, you may need to restart your PC.

The instructions at the above URL address are as follows:

1 log into Windows as a power user or administrator - you need elevated privileges to access the registry editor.

    2. open my computer or Windows Explorer. Expand your C: drive. Right click on the Program Files folder, and then select "search".

    3. Windows Desktop Search (WDS) opens. In the lower left of the screen you will see "this folder is not indexed. Click on the "...". Please use Search Companion"link to open the Wizard search. This step ensures that the necessary registry value is created.

    4. close the Windows Search Companion and WDS.

    5. click on the Windows Start, then "Run" button (or press WINDOWS + R keys on your keyboard.) In the open dialog box, type REGEDIT, and then click OK. The Registry Editor opens.

    6. to change the setting for all users of the computer, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Desktop Search\DS.
To change the setting for the current user only account, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Desktop Search\DS.

    7. in the right pane, double-click the item "ShowStartSearchBand". In the value data field, change the '1' '0 '. Click OK, and then close the registry editor.

    8. now when you right click on a folder in Explorer and select 'Search', the Search Companion window opens instead of WDS.

  • Cisco compatible AP541-N & WAP551 between them or not?

Hello everyone. We have 18 AP541-Ns and 2 WAP551s in our office. And we want to use cluster. My question is that, these access points support each other? If anyone has any idea on this, please help us. And another question:

They can support 10 (AP541) & 12 points of access (WAP551) by each cluster. So, how can I configure them? Maybe I should create 2 clusters (1st floor and 2nd floor) and divide 10 by 10.

Please help on top of problem for us.

    Thank you

    AYUSH

    Hi Mary,

Cluster is not comatible between AP541N and WAP551/561, if you have two choices:

-use two Cluster, that have the same range of IP to connect between them or

-use a WDS bridge between an AP541N and a WAP551. The AP541N can use Cluster and WDS for the same time, but the WAP551 does not work. Then, you have the WAP551 in an AP541 Bridge-Mode or you use two WAP as a second group, but Wired then on the same switch.

  • Windows Installer CS6 Master Collection 8.1 update 1

I am trying to create a new custom image to deploy on all our computers in our school. We create our image using a virtual machine, hyper v and then use MDT to capture and WDS to deploy. The first step in our process is to ensure that all windows updates are installed before you begin installing third-party programs. When I try to install our CS6 Master Collection package (created using AAMME) a window appears with the title "Please wait while windows configures"package name"" and "Collecting information" content and a loading bar. The loading bar will go through once and then come to halfway, and then reverses. I checked in "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Common Files" for the Setup logs, but there are not.

A little more information. When I try to install our package before the updates it does not work. This is until the updates are installed, it will seem to start installation then "reverse."

The way we have circumvented this problem was to launch a prompt as an administrator and then run the AAMME package in the folder of generation.
