S1410 704 (terrible) performance

Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite (S1410 704), it has 256 MB of RAM and Windows XP and Linux installed.

I lived very very slow and lazy performance during daily use, is an example: in firefox, with only 3 windows open, when filling out the data on a form, I typed data for 5 domains and it took about 30 seconds to think before the letters appear on the screen. (alt - tab between windows is just as bad)

Takes much longer that usual for starting and running a program like Eclipse, that used to work just fine is a complete no-no.

Recently I formatted my hard drive, reorganized the partitions and installed XP and own Linux, two of them still run as slow and there are no obvious clues why.

The swap file is the recommended size, I have (extra) no background running processes. I ran Memtest 86 twice with several passes through all the tests, there is not any light. I then tested the hard drive with the tool of fitness to drive from Toshiba, which, after several passes, was just as happy as memtest. I also tried to reset the BIOS settings.

Please advise me, I really want to be able to use my laptop, but with his current performance, it's not worth.

Kind regards

Alex Ellis

Hi Alex

My Tecra is not the fastest laptop, but I am very satisfied. It is very interesting that I have the same problem using the Firefox browser. There is always a small brake every 5 sec. The browser crashes and it is not possible to use it normally. I found on the net some parameters that should help to use the Firefox faster, but there is no success. I can really do not explain why this happens.

I read your announcement carefully, and in my opinion, you did the right things. You can also try to expand the RAM. As far as I know the maximum capacity of RAM for your unit is 512 MB.

  • Terrible performance virtual machine running SAV 10

Before we get too far into this, I blame especially SAV 10 to be a resource hog, but I wonder if there is a way I can increase the performance to an acceptable level.

In short, I set up a new PC the other day on Ubuntu 64-bit installed 7 workstations 64 bits for Linux on it and set up a VM XP 32-bit with 2 VCPUs, 1 GB of RAM and a 40 GB prealloue virtual disk.  So far, so good - performance was such that I could watch video in the virtual machine with a stutter that slight.

Then, for I can meet the requirements of the host for our company VPN, and use for remote access to work, I downloaded and installed 10 SAV of our intranet.  Immediately, the performance went in the toilet while the virtual machine CPU usage doubled.  I waited a few minutes after clicking on a button or icon to see the effect.  I tried to disable auto-protect, but he had only marginal benefits and actually seemed to wake quickly.  Uninstalling SAV completely resolved all the issues (I could see performance improve during the uninstall process that each component has been closed).

Is there a simple fix known for this problem, or is it just a case of being a pig irremediable Symantec?  I read that Symantec can't SAV 10 on a virtual machine, but I don't know what the extent of their endorsement.

    Try again with 1 vCPU.

Recent Linux kernels have a 'problem' (or should I say bug?) scheduling vSMP VMs.

  • L10-273: Terrible Performance - need 1 hour to boot OS

My laptop started running really slow - 1 hour just to load windows! No obvious cause. Tried a system restore to before the problem - not better. A check of the current process shows "system idle" working to 99percent cpu process. Is this normal? Is this likely to be a hardware problem?

    Any informed ideas please!

    Hello

This looks like a virus. But I m not 100% sure.
Have you installed the operating system with the recovery CD?
If this isn't the case, then try it. After the recovery procedure, the unit should work fine.
If this isn't the case, then it might also be a malfunction of the equipment. In this case, you must contact the ASP. But first try to recover you unit with the restore CD provided.

  • Station working 12, after suspend and resume, kills the host graphics performance (15.10 Kubuntu/Ubuntu host).

When I suspend and resume my comments on VMware Workstation 12 Pro systems, using the command "vmrun suspend", my system very fast host (Kubuntu 15.10) suffers from a terrible performance issue after standby.  Graphic files, such as photos, now take 20 seconds to display on the host system to the place instantly. Here is an example of command that shows the problem to a 2.5 MB JPEG file on my host system.

    display of $ IMG_1234.JPG

Other graphics software become even slow on display: geeqie, eog, etc.. However, the cp command is always instantaneous for the same file, so the problem does not seem to be related to the disk:

    $ cp IMG_1234.JPG whatever.jpg

The problem remains until I have suspend the VMs system again (or stop).  If I take it back once again, the problem sometimes returns immediately. Other times it comes back after a few hours or a few days. (The problem is intermittent, but suspending the VMs always makes the problem go away.)

If the graphic file is small, it displays quickly.  The slowdown is proportional to the size of the graphics file.

When I run a strace of the 'View' command, I see that the delays are produce for the read() of the image file. No errors appear in/var/log when the behavior occurs.

I suspend the VMs every night automatically (vmrun suspend) before that cron runs a backup of the entire system (using rsync). Then I have them back manually in the morning when I wake up. Sometimes, the problem is present and sometimes not.

Two virtual machines use shared folders to access the host system.

The problem started after upgrading my host of Kubuntu 14.04 15.10 LTS, and VMware Workstation version 10 to version 12. (Both at the same time.)

    System details:

    • VMware® Workstation 12 Pro, 12.0.1 build-3160714. Two virtual machines: Windows XP and Windows 7 Professional.
    • The host system: 12 cores, 32 GB of RAM (28 GB free), SSD
    • Using the new system for graphics (G-Force graphics cards)
    • Under Plasma (KDE) for host GUI.

    Thanks for any help!

The issue is resolved by disabling hugepages transparent in the nucleus of the host.

  • After Effects CS5.5 - Performance very serious issues w/RAM Preview

My system: Windows 7 Professional, two-processor Intel Xeon X 5650, 12 GB of RAM and a NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800.

Problem: RAM Preview in CS5.5 give me less than 2 fps (Yes - two images per second). It's even with the simplest compositions. I created a project of 1080 p 23.976 with two solid layers simple and retouching position and scale values to one of them without other effects to be switched on. RAM Preview gives me 1.8 fps.

I still have AE CS5 installed and it gives me strong and predictable results with RAM Preview. When I create a similar test inside the CS5 project, it creates the RAM Preview almost instantly and displays good real-time (23.976 fps).

My settings for CS5 and CS5.5 are similar (and I tried many variations in my attempt to solve this problem).

    PREVIEWS

Fast previews: Adaptive resolution limit 1/4

Compatible OpenGL and two sub-options for active OpenGL.

    MEMORY and MULTIPROCESSING

Reserved for other applications of RAM: 4 GB

I tried different settings for multiprocessing, which translates the same less-than-2 fps previews RAM. Currently I have MP'ing activated with allocation of 1.5 GB per background CPU and real processor used is 4. Yet once, no matter what I set it to, I have the same problem of performance.

On my screen magnification ratio setting, I use 25% and my Resolution/Down sample is on the quarter. In my preview, I tried setting my default resolution to "Auto" to "Quarter" without any difference.

In short: on the same machine, RAM of AE CS5.5 preview offers terrible performance. Preview RAM CS5 offers excellent performance.

Well, I got my answer and all is well in the world.

After uninstalling all AJA (and even turn off my Kona card), I lived even horrible RAM previews. Then I Dove which was actually installed on my PC and here I found entries that refer to something as "Matrox Utils". I had not installed anything to do with Matrox. I'm not a big fan of the MXO2, but we have a few floating around the office and after asking around, I found my enemy - one of my co-workers used my machine when I was last week and it has installed and used the MXO2.

So now I guess I have to install my AJA stuff and everything is good. Thanks a lot Szalam and Todd (and everyone else) for pointing me in the right direction!

  • Turning to black screen after the value time/RAM used FireFox

    Hello

My question is for the graphics. It lasts for several months now and he came to a point where it starts eating away at me.

I installed recently (within 6 months) 16 GB of RAM and a new extra GPU. I upgraded to an ATI Radeon HD 5750 to a Gigabyte Radeon R9 x 270. I never had this problem with my 5750 card, so that initially led me to believe it was a card problem, until I discovered that my problem seems to be ONLY with FireFox.

Now to the question: arriving to 2.8 GB + of memory used (according to Task Manager), FireFox flashes for a brief moment and to scroll the screen or between tabs, becomes completely black, forcing me to re - load the browser. Now the first question of the use of FireFox, so initially, amount of RAM is crazy, and I tried to lower the settings by disabling extensions, all sorts of things and the fulfillment of the only thing that is extend the time before flash made his boring appearance.

The screen flashes problem seems to be quite something else. I tried to upgrade to the latest version of FireFox, run a new installation of FireFox, update my graphic drivers their latest versions, just about everything I can think of, and nothing seems to fix. What seems to be the problem here? I would be very happy all feedback and better understand how I can solve this problem outside hard using a different web browser.

    Hardware specifications:
    Motherboard ASUS P6X58D
    Intel Core i7 930 @2. 8 GHz processor
22 GB of total RAM (3 branches of 2 and 2 strips of 8)
    Gigabyte Radeon R9 270 x GPU
Brand/model unknown 850W of power (honestly, I'm just too lazy to remove the top of my tower which is packed in a locked drawer to figure out the make and model at display time)

Running FireFox in safe mode seems to have solved or at least slow the excessive RAM issue however FireFox has now terrible performance much earlier. Adding constantly freezes and scripts constantly crashing, it would seem that addons and extensions that I ran helped to solve these issues.

What I do now is to reload firefox standard and turn my extensions one by one to see which seems to be the cause of most of the points in the use of the ram.

AdBlock Plus seems to so far be keep stable FireFox without problem. Going to turn in my next toolbar. Will edit this post more information after having observed the behavior of FireFox.

Edit: The reason to believe it's my toolbar like with AdBlock plus, FireFox was still around or less 1 GB to use physical RAM. After the reactivation of my toolbar, I jumped up to 2 GB. Contact the developer of the toolbar soon.

  • X 301 new OS question

I bought my X 301 prior to them sold with Windows 7 Upgrade coupon things and mine came with Vista. I upgraded to 7 when it came out and it never worked very well as the Thinkvantage button has never worked and I lost beside a few other features.

I noticed my SSD of terrible performance now and was curious if I sent it to Lenovo under the EasyServ will they install Windows 7 and do all the updates to the BIOS?

I do not understand your question completely, I'm guessing you bought an OEM/retail windows 7 and installed it? There is nothing wrong with it, and of the four X 301 I've owned, it is much better than my humble OPINION, the lenovo provided recovery disks. I have both your installation (XP/vista) and the disks to upgrade during this time of upgrade to Windows 7.

The X 301 is not based on the experience to improve so there is no difference between the normal window 7 and provided lenovo window 7 recovery (by X 301) disks.

What you need to do is download the software update from lenovo and install all the latest drivers and utilities to bring all the features you want. Of course there is no blue button recovery feature so you would need to use window 7 built in backup software to record your image, burn a CD for recovery and so on.

The DSS could suffer from no garbage collection, have you tried running the software to TRIM/garbage collection of the manufacturer? For example, Intel and samsung should have their own tools.

  • Moored W510 has really bad update video internal display

I noticed that when I anchor my w510 in my dock, updates on the internal display is terribly slow.

What I mean is that scrolling in applications is very choppy and rough.

Play videos full screen creates 'split-screen' effect where the Summit of the half is out of sync with the bottom half, this separation is not constant, different media are the divider at different locations. several media have it in about 1/3 from the top.

This is also apparent in other applications like games full screen.

I did some research on the internet about this behavior and have not yet found a good explanation.

First I thought it was something power, I have no 135W power, and I checked the CPU is without limitation down or something unusual rooted or not anchored. I read people have bad experience with the power of 90W with limitation or simply bad terrible performance of the CPU down.

The really strange thing is that as soon as I unplug the computer from the dock, this behavior disappears!

The laptop running on battery or external power gives me about this problem.

I also tried to fix an external display directly on laptop or docking station, and I see no problem on external display.

When you use external display with docking station, the internal screen is still having the problem, while at the same time the external display shows no problem, regardless of the configuration of extended screen or mirror.

    Computer running Windows 7 x 64 with Sp1.

Alll drivers are updated through system update.

An update, I used the updated system drivers, I tried today to download the NVidia driver, so I installed their Quadro Mobile 305.93 driver, and the problem seems to have disappeared!

It's looking good, but I need more than 15 minutes of testing applications scrollng, videos full screen, etc, to make sure that the problem is solved.

  • Clipboard and late at the start of Windows no longer works

It starts at random, and usually I just stop DWM and use the aero Troubleshooter to fix. When that happens, any delay. Windows take forever to pop up, my games do not work well, and everything is working slowly. I tried everything else a clean install and nothing suits him. I am able to achieve 100% of the time by minimizing a Chrome window and drag it to the top of my screen.

Anyone has any ideas how to solve this problem?

Chrome has two flaws that cause terrible performance.  It uses about 5 x as much memory as it should, and it sets your clock CPU 100% rate if she needs it or not.

Recommendation: uninstall Chrome, reboot, then see how the conditions change.

PS. Google has said they're going to solve these problems next year.

    Hi people,

Well, Frédéric solution should work (I didn't test it) but I wonder if its work more than planned gift.  I could be wrong, but I bet that as a person SQL that Don would like to do something in the sense

    SELECT FOO(x,y) FROM myTable GROUP BY acode, id;

and just to get a result.

It got me thinking about how many moons have passed since we all used to talk on the writing of our own space ODCI functions

Does anyone have an aggregation function APPEND

At the time seemed so possible, but over the years it seems a kind of consensus that do something with spatial data in this way the likely outcome an accident and/or terrible performance.  Anyone has revisited the things?  Is it not better to 12 c?  Did someone using their own space ODCI to aggregate successfully functions in the production?

Select it then final (which btw blows the stack into a FROG) would be the easiest way to do this aggregation from a SQL perspective.

Now I recommend this as a good idea?  Probably not, I don't know.  If the workload of the Don's just tens of points, I think that it working great - until it hits the gigantic of a line with 25,000 points, then it will break.  Or are things better now with ODCI?

It occurs to me that I've not seen a single question on this forum in the eight years since the issue of Jean Luc where the answer has been a custom ODCI function.  One might think that there are good practices here to avoid them when you work with spatial data.  Them would all you?

    See you soon,.

  • Why is LR 5.7 with 10 GB of memory?

I have 16 GB of memory, processor i3, honking big GPU (no, not that it matters), running LR on SSD, photos stored on WD Black internal and external Wd Seagate external drives. Somehow ended up with duplicates in my files, so I was passing by and marking each 2nd photo for the removal, deletion, then move the folder of Seagate drive on the new internal WD Black drive. Why these actions would use 10GB of memory? LR runs slow. (I have an SSD and WD Black, which is supposed to be designed for photography) I freeze issues too, especially when re - crop a photo that has been trimmed off several times. I'd appreciate if someone out there could help me solve these questions, please.

The i3 is the lowest part of my system, but is really weak enough to justify such a terrible performance of LR? Especially considering the quality of the rest of my components?

I guess it depends on what you are doing and how big are your photos and a few other things. Most of the speed (or lack of speed) in Lightroom comes from the CPU. The part of the computer that has the greatest impact on speed in Lightroom is the weakest part of your computer.

Why SSD speed up performance of Lightroom? I thought that an SSD has been recommended for this reason.

An SSD to speed up loading your software and the ability to scroll through your photos, these are operations that depend on the speed of the drive. Edition and most of the other things in Lightroom (export and import) depend on the speed of the CPU.

So you're saying that if I update my processor, LR will run eventually frost-free, trolling and uses tons of memory? If that's what it takes I'm willing to do, but I wouldn't throw more money in my system for nothing.

There is no guarantee, once again it depends on what you are doing and how big are your photos (in megapixels. not megabytes). If you do a lot of brushing or healing spot on a particular photo, this will also slow downs.

Freezing (especially when cropping) could be a different problem, you might want to try to delete your preferences file. Where to find preference files for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5

  • Questions of OpenGL (crash) on Ubuntu 16.04

Hi, we develop software on Ubuntu, and of course, we use VMware for that, for all the usual reasons large. We use an API that supports Ubuntu 12.04, 14.04 and now 16.04. We decided to go to 16.04, like its new and shiny. But it seems to be serious problems with OpenGL in 16.04, breaking OpenGL based apps. Or else, they work and produced a terrible performance.

    My setup is...

    Mac Pro end of 2013

    32 GB of Ram

AMD Fire Pro D700 / 6 GB of RAM

    VMWare Fusion 8.1.1

And we're runing 16.04 Ubuntu on a virtual computer

Our own app running, you get a stack trace, which is the last error...

    (/opt/oblong/g-speak3.24/lib/libNoodoo.so.2 oblong::noodoo:WindowedLinuxVisiFeld:DisestablishRenderConditions(oblong::Basement::atmosphere*))

The problem which seems to be with WindowedLinuxVisiFeld, which is an OpenGL who are attracted by the elements in our API window. This only happens that we load in attracted ex OpenGL Bitmap files. If my guess is, its bombing he's trying to put the mipMaps for the BitMaps. Why? Well well...

A colleague has glmark2 on a physical machine from Ubuntu16.04, and it has not crashed. BUT there does appear to be a pretty awful performance, with a score of 200, compared to 2000 + on Ubuntu VMWare 14.04. It was also to launch a large NUMBER of errors.

It looks like VMWare can do something to remedy this situation?

HM, this might be a limitation of our stack of graphics, but we have the graphic team to take a look.

  • Unique guest VM uses 100% of CPU Guest, but only 7% of the CPU host (includes screenshots)

We have a Dell T420 ESXi 5.5 server.  The host has to a single UC E5-2407 (4 Core 2.2 GHz without Hyperthreading), 16 GB of RAM and RAID storage.

The host runs a single VM Windows Server 2008, which was a P2V conversion.  The virtual machine is currently assigned 1 Plug and 4 Cores, corresponding to the host CPU.

Since implementing this server about a year ago, he had a problem recurring pop up every few months.  When the problem occurs, the Server 2008 VM suddenly max use of the processor and the terrible performance, but CPU is be contributed to the maximum, not by a single program, but several normal processes.  For example, WMI, explorer.exe and the Task Manager may show all 30% CPU usage.  In the meantime, even if the guest virtual computer has 100% CPU usage, the host will show only using 300 to 500 MHz of CPU, or about 7% of available.  It comes despite the fact that it is the unique virtual machine and has full reign of all the resources of the host.  If the problem seems to be not with an abnormal load on the Guest VM, but less than the resources of the host.

Restart the virtual machine does not correct the problem, and restart, which normally takes only a few minutes, lasts 30 minutes.  In the past, restart the ESXi host temporarily solved the problem, however it popup until today and persists even after several reboots of ESXi host.  See the attached screenshots for parameters and symptoms:

It's the performance monitor virtual machine, whereas the problem that happens.  Notes on the virtual machine, Windows 2008 reports 100% of a core 2.2 GHz CPU 4 CPU usage, while the side host, the CPU usage never goes 626 MHz.

    Other troubleshooting steps:

We changed number of vCPU on the VM from 4 to 1, without change.

We put the CPU reserve for the VM to 50% and 100%, no change.

The machine virtual was version 8 and we have updated to version 9, no change.

Has anyone ever experience this problem?  Any help towards a solution would be appreciated.

    Hello

I would say that it is somehow related to the fact that the VM was converted from physical server. Here are a few questions you should ask yourself:

Type of CPU on the computer old physical host and VM match? At least seller of CPU? It goes the same for the chipset: are there different chipset vendor on the two hosts?

What type of card NETWORK VM uses?

Has uninstalled the drivers card mother/CPU specific converted VM? The VM tools are installed?

Uninstall the old drivers of VM, currently they are not visible in the Device Manager here some is read: http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/virtualization-pro/removing-old-hardware-after-a-p2v-conversion/

I would also check the BIOS of the server - maybe there is some sort of option for active energy that interfere with the VM?

  • Supermicro onboard Intel and Adaptec RAID configuration unrecognized in ESXi 5.5 U2

Hi, I have a supermicro X7DAL-E r1.1b motherboard has integrated Intel and Adaptec sata raid controllers. To enable raid controllers, I go into the BIOS and enable the raid configuration for intel or adaptec. I tried two raid controllers and created a configuration raid 5 by going through the bios of each controller. However, when I start to go through the process of installing ESXi 5.5 U2, I see not a logical drive, all I see are hard drives that I thought were configured as a logical drive in raid 5.

I know that I am using an old motherboard which is not on the HCL, but I just haven't the money to spend on equipment. I really want to make it work if possible. I tried to download ESXi 4 but it is no longer available . I understand I tried to use an older version to see if it contains the necessary drivers for it work and attempt to port these drivers in ESXI 5.5.

I was wondering if someone actually got this similar problem with supermicro Board and whether a solution or workaround has been found in which ESXi 5 can recognize the raid configuration? If this is impossible, it can't be done, that's what it is. I'll deal with it or put in place.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Not sure about this 'r1.1b' version, but original X7DAL-E has no onboard hardware raid controller. What he has is i5000 chipset, which offers the raid software-(aka bios-, faux-, etc.). This is not supported by ESXi (for very good reasons). And even if it were, no cache, you would get terrible performance...

  • Premiere Pro jerky with h264

H264 is supposed to be that bad in Premiere Pro? I'm unable to edit effectively. All I see is the loss of images during playback of images. I'm editing images fps 1080 p 60 with the following specifications.

    Intel Core i7 - 4770K

EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB Dual Superclocked ACX

    Z87 Extreme 6 motherboard ASRock

Edition of 2013 for the GS series 800W Corsair

    Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR3-1600 memory

Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5 "Solid State Drive (primary OS)

Western Digital BLACK SERIES 4TB 3.5 "7200 RPM HDD internal (project and images)

    8.1 Windows Pro 64-bit

My monitor is a 32 inch 1080 p TV connected via DVI-VGA adapter provided with my gpu.

My plans are really terrible performance wise. It seems to play fine, then after a few seconds will dip and drop frames. Or if I have after effects mixed compositions, he will play and then not let me stop it and freeze the image but still to play the audio. I really hope it is my material and not Adobe. I wouldn't mind upgrading or RMAing a component if it is faulty. If someone could help it would be appreciated.

I think it works pretty well, at least simple reading (no effect).  In fact, the 2015 version seems to be a bit more responsive with H.264 that 2014 was.

However, H.264 is just DON'T edit as well as other formats.  I have all convert to DNxHD before editing it and it changes as used for DV.  Tried to convert Cineform today and same excellent performance, especially with the friction.  so much better than H.264.
