  The latest version of the BIOS should not cause this kind of thing. Have reset you the BIOS to its default settings?

  Have you checked the CPU radiator for an accumulation of dust? A can of compressed Air can help remove dust through the vents.

  What was the reason that you updated the BIOS, in the first place? Had previous problems with the system?

  you have a problem with my satellite A30 - hard drive has been corrupted (due to accumulation of dust on the cpu!) and I replaced it with a 100 GB hard drive.
  Tried the 'recovery cds', but get an error message 'error #1537 file greater than 4 billion number' and recovery has been abandoned halfway after inserting the third cd. The XP Home operating system does not install completely. Any suggestions?

  already tried the recovery process more then once? If so, the error appears at the place of installation? You said that you have installed a new hard drive but actually you have formatted the hard drive before you perform a full restore? That would be really helpful, sometimes recovery is suspended because the disk formatted or partitioned before luckily.

  You should really try. One way would be to use the "UBCD4Win' which is a Windows Live CD with really good tools. Format your hard drive with this CD and retry the recovery. Maybe it works...

  I just installed xp pro sp1 on my a30 but not from toshiba drives, as soon as it was installed it takes 30 minutes just to load xp before signing

  It's not easy to say why it happens. Maybe a virus, treated them melts strange procedure or there is something wrong with the hardware.

  You are quite correct because the fan on your A30 will run most of the time (especially in hot weather or in a warm room), although it should not run at particularly high speed.

  You should also find that applications that use a lot of CPU will cause the fan to run more frequently and more quickly.

  You do not have some control in the management system of the Toshiba power where you can set the A30 to use less CPU in order to reduce the activity of the fan.

  Regarding special tools, you will need a small screwdriver 'star' to remove the heat sink access panel (which has five points as opposed to a Phillips screwdriver, which has four). The heat sink is attached with four classic Phillips screws, but it can be a little difficult to remove in fact since it is also attached to the CPU chip with the heat, scatter the dough that acts as an eraser and tends to stick the radiator in place.

  My Satellite P10 automatically goes to sleep after 15 minutes. This is a setting that is controlled by Toshiba or the Console of Toshiba power management settings.

  It is not easy to give a correct answer, but the fact is that 256 MB of RAM for using Windows XP Home edition is really not much. I do not know what A30 you have exactly, but some of them can be upgraded up to 2 GB of RAM.

  RAM modules are not more expensive and I recommend you to upgrade to 1 GB minimum. After this the laptop will have a lot more resources and will go much faster.
