Satellite A30: overheating maybe?

Hello. I had a problem with my satellite SA30-303. When I run certain applications, such as WinDVD Creator and more recently, the online game Lineage 2 and a few others, my pc just stops completely, after an increase of "noise" coming from the ventilation. So I think it's maybe an overheating problem? Unfortunetaly, due to another person, this pc has been used on TWO napkins that were under it, and I think that could have caused this problem. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Should I open up the pc and clean vents and heatsink? Or do I really have to take it to the store so that they can do something? And how to open the pc to access the fan? Am I supposed to get out the whole half of the pc?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

Hi Jose,

It is very easy to clean the heatsink on your A30. On the bottom of the adjacent unit at the entrance to two air grids is a small cover attached by two screws 'star '.
Simply remove this cover and the heat sink is more visible.

The heat sink is attached with four screws. Cancel them and the heat sink can be raised as a result. do NOT remove the heat, scatter the dough.

Dust and debris can then be removed.

Re-assemble the heat sink and replace the access cover.

Work done and it made a significant difference to the ventilation of you A30.

I've had my A30 for about 9 months now, he is just starting to give me problems. At least I have put the computer on top of some books (which is very heavy) my A30 overheats and shuts down. It only started happening. Is it just because of the dust build up or do I have a technical problem. If this is the first, where should I go to get my computer cleaned? Any help will be received with recognition of Ed

    Hello

Dust clean usually of the heatsink from the CPU using a domestic vacuum hose in the fan air intake grilles.

Alternatively it is possible to remove the heat sink by removing the small plastic cover (adjacent to the air intake grilles) and then by unscrewing the screws in the sink four hest. The heatsink can then be lifted off and removed debris. Ensure that the heat dispering paste is always in place reassembly of the heat sink.

    Hello

The dismantling is a delicate procedure. I recommend you test the vacuum procedure. It is very easy and it works correctly.

  • Satellite A30 stops due to overheating

My Satellite A30 cutout due to overheating.
The cooling fans are free of dust.
    I put the Max-performance cooling.
Is there another reason of overheating?

    Hi David,

Everything that hinders the free movement of air across the processor HEAT SINK cooling will have the effect you describe. The problem is that dust can not be seen by looking at the fan grids because she has built up inside the unit. The easy way to remove it is to use a vacuum cleaner hose from the cleaner to the grids of aspiration air (using a piece of cloth to maximize suction). This should make the fans running at very high speed and can produce a WAD of debris inside the grids you'll need to choose carefully.

To be really complete, you need to remove the radiator cover (adjacent to the grids of aspiration and locked by two "torx" screws). With the cover removed, you will be able to see the heat sink itself fixed by four Phillips head screws (two on each side), delete them and remove the heat sink. Note that it will stick to the CPU because of thermal paste used during Assembly. DO NOT REMOVE THE DOUGH. Once the heatsink is removed, you will be able to see an accumulation of debris.

Reassembly is the reverse of the uninstall, but note sequence on the heat sink numbers, so that you can tighten the screws in the correct order.

  • Satellite A30, PC shutdown due to overheating of the CPU

My Satellite A30 has a new problem, the PC shuts down due to overheating.
Fans are set to Max Performance. The cooling fans are not blocked by dust.
I think that the CPU is overheating for some reason any.
Can someone explain what parameters can be modified to avoid this problem?
I also saw that the other Toshiba PC needed a BIOS upgrade, it will be necessary for the A30?

    Hello David

Your device is certainly full of dust and cannot be properly cooled. If I remember the unit has two vents on the lower part. The must be removed and cleaned properly.

Trust me on this machine, the dust is placed behind the fans and if you look they seems to be clean, but they are not. Contact the customer Service of your country partner. The cleaning procedure takes about 20-30 minutes. I can't imagine that it will be expensive.

  • Satellite A30 seems to be overheating

Hello. I just read the previous posts about the A30 overheating and stop. Mine did the same thing. If someone could clarify, where are the vents for me to try vaccing - they are at the back by the power cable - these look quite clean. I need to open to ACCESS them?
If that doesn't work can not someone tell where I can go for repair, IE is there a list on the internet of the Toshiba certified service engineers?
    Thank you very much

    Hi Alison,.

The aspiration air on the A30 grids are in the bottom of the unit just behind the battery. There are two racks, and you use the hose of vacuum cleaner on each grid.

  • Satellite A30 shuts down / blocks

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Satellite A30 for about 2 years with no problems. Until today...

I was chatting on MSN Messenger, but had to put my missing status and left the computer for about an hour.

When I came back to it, the screen was all what it was when I left, but there was no control of the mouse, no whirring HARD drive away, not nothing. In fact, it seemed that he had closed the partitally without turning off the screen.

The only way I could reboot had to turn off the power. I disconnected the battery, reconnected everything and tried to reload. I don't even have as much as Logo of Toshiba screen, click on the HARD drive, * which is normal for this machine * and off.

I thought that maybe it was an overheating issue, then I left for half an hour and go home. This time it restarts, but the display was all out of sync. was on 800 x 600 when its usually on the following resolution. (Don't remember who he is). I ran dxdiag and he told me that there is no present display driver, as I had reloaded using the last well known record. It was not a problem, I reinstalled drivers, restarted without any problem.

Everything was fine for 2 h with the laptop, so at this point, I don't think it was a heat issue. I went through the net, when hung just computer still once, I lost all control of the mouse, even if the optical lights on it were always activate when moved, and he seemed to stop again.

Well, I left for 10 minutes, he came back and tried again, it started ok, but as soon as I tried to access anything, he hung up again, forcing me to press the power button to shut down.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but can anyone shed light on this point, I use my laptop on a daily basis, and there are things about it, as I need to access.

    I hope someone can help

    Thank you

    Hello

It is very interesting because it can happen to anyone. I really put t know which can block the laptop. On this way, we can only speculate and it is really not easy to say why this happens to concrete.

I put t know how is your unit configured and that these (process) applications run in the background, but you can try to stop all the unnecessary stuff and see what is happening in this case. Check the Device Manager and make sure that everything is properly recognized. After that create a system restore point and in this way you can restore the system to an earlier time if something goes wrong.

If you do not find what happens I recommend you back up the data and do the recovery procedure. On this way the unit will be own pre-installed and things like this can happen. As you know sometimes happen oddities and there is no logical explanation.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite A30 shuts down suddenly

Toshiba Satellite A30-504, connected to the power adapter and with fully charged battery, turns off suddenly while I was reading something on the internet. I tried to turn it on, but she did not respond, and I thought that his mother might have broken down. As by chance, I saw the battery light flashes red for a few seconds, I took the battery of the laptop and left just with the AC adapter. It's on!

When I put the battery, it turn on, but the battery was suddenly + blank +!

He accused now and everything is working well, the laptop runs without the adapter sector is plugged in, but can someone tell me what is the thing that's happened? The problem is perhaps not in the battery but in something else? I don't think it was overheated because it came on after I took out the battery and I continued to work for hours after the incident... Thank you.

    > He accused now and everything is working well, the laptop runs without the adapter sector is plugged in, but can someone tell me what is the thing that's happened. The problem is perhaps not in the battery but in something else?

I think that no one will be able to tell why this happened. Maybe there is a problem of short with electronic power supply to the Board of directors who knows I think that only a technician of the laptop could provide a response after the laptop has been verified.

But the most important is that your laptop works fine now.

  • Questions of Touchpad on Satellite A30

    Hi all

Recently, I sent my Satellite A30 for repairs because the touchpad is dead. Since I had 'fix', his erratic behavior. Sometimes, I lost all the horizontal movement, with only the operation of the vertical direction. Sometimes during a windows session, I lose the feature full touchpad (including the left/right button).

I also noticed that a fresh windows session allows me to use scrolling (side of the touchpad) and also rear ease in web browsers. However, after a few moments, windows stopss recognizing the scroll and the b/f gestures (even if the touchpad in my tray icon highlights the fact that I use).

I've updated my ALPS drivers to the latest version, but that didn't fix it.

I'm guessing that it's a software issue and not a hardware fault as a reboot solves these problems temporarily. I don't know if there is a hardware problem that confuses the software. I have no idea.

If anyone has any ideas or has experienced this before, please let me know as it's more boring.

    See you soon,.

    Jason

    Hello

It's not easy to say why this touchpad problem.
Questions sometimes very strange occur due to overheating. I noticed that if the temperature goes down to the critical level of the operating system stops, the laptop crashes or many strange issues occurs as a malfunction of the touchpad. In your case, I recommend that you check the cooling modules and try to use the vacuum cleaner for cleaning. Maybe it helps.

The second possibility is that the touchpad has a malfunction. You know, it has been replaced in the past and it is possible that there is something wrong with the hardware.
You can contact Toshiba service partner and explain the situation after the replacement of touchpad.

    Good luck

  • Upgrade of RAM for Satellite A30 213

After buying my satellite second hand I immediately found why it was for sale, the dreaded overheating.
I cleaned the fans with compressed air and it worked fine, then my error fatal, flushed with success, I bought the RAM online and installed. It was recgonised by the system and I thought all was well until it has proved defective and crashed my operating system, no recovery was possible.

An operating system later new XP (and £50 poorer), I'm ready to have another go, but I can't open the user manual on the Toshiba site.

I want to get right to the RAM of a reputable suplier, but the specifications I have indicates only DDR RAM, does anyone know the full specification (pins etc) because I don't want to lose it all again?

    Hello

    Have a look here:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=7249&ft=m&St=3

You need the PC2100 200 pin SODIMM (266 MHz) DDR modules.
You can upgrade the Satellite A30 Ram up to 2 GB. This means that you can use the 2 x 1 GB module.

I had a good experience using modules from Kingston.

    Welcome them

    I have a laptop Satellite A30 - 92.

Suddenly I'm unable to access most of the internet sites. Can I use it fine at high speed and on the LAN, but using the dial up, no.
I can dial my ISP very well, but it will not download web page. Oddly enough I can get some (but very few sites), but above all no that I looked at the Device Manager and the modem works fine. Looking at the ports I have a ltp printer port, but no com port doesn't appear.

This could be the cause and how to fix? Thank you.
I must say I checked the firewall and even turned off.

Must the connection by modem specific DNS and Proxy settings? Call them and find out.

If you are using IE, try to disable Protected Mode.

Or maybe just try another browser such as FireFox.

  • Satellite A30 generic fault

    Hello

I have four Toshiba Satellite A30 in the workshop at the moment and all have the same defect.

    The machines are:
    1 - satellite Pro A30
    2 - satellite A30
    3 - satellite A30 921
    4 - satellite A30-931

All four machines behave as follows:

Once the power adapter is connected to the power supply and charging the battery LED come. When the machines are turned on the battery charge LED goes out, they then continue to start, but it stops after a short time. A few times that I was able to boot into windows XP and checking the condition of the battery, the machine is running on battery power only, even if the AC adapter is plugged in. Meanwhile, power is on, but the battery charge LED is not.

After some research, this problem seems to be a common one, but I still have to find a solution.

Does anyone know a fix for this problem.

    You have enough old machines.
Do you use all of them with original AC adapters that you got with these machines, or maybe, do you tests with clean (Universal) adapter and test with each machine?

This suggests that memory is faulty, as bought crucial memory must be compatible with my laptop?

    Thanks for your time,

You have this problem if you use modules or only the new module?

If you only use the new module, the case is clear. The new module is defective or is not compatible with the laptop.
I think you should get back on the computer dealer and request a new. Maybe you can get a Kingston module because I have only good experience with this production.

If you use both modules, they are not compatible. You should only use the modules with the same specifications.

  • Satellite A30-414 turn off randomly

Hi, I'm new here. I own this Satellite A30-414. It works well, but it turns off randomly. I explain.

I might use it for non-stop days, it works well, but sometimes it empties and turns off. Then it always turns on the second attempt. I mean, after the stop, I turn it on, I see the MESSAGE, then it turns off again. The second time I turn it on it goes OK and starts Windows XP Pro SP3. There is no particular action, I do it turns off, it can happen any application at any time. As I said, it can stay for days, connected to the internet via wifi or lan, download P2P stuff, no problem not turn off.

I thought it was the temperature because it's warm enough, so I run it on a laptop computer have lower airflow, not at all, it turns off randomly anyway. Maybe I'm thniking more heating unsoldered some brazing under BGA chips, so it might need a redistribution of some chips, maybe the graphics chip

    Can you help me please?

    Thanx

    Hi satiropan,

    > I thought it was the temperature because it's warm enough, so I run it on a laptop computer have lower airflow, not at all, it turns off randomly anyway.
Such an external Notebook Cooler will not help you solve this problem. The internal cooling fan is designed and tested for this laptop and everything will work perfectly even on high usage. External cooling is not necessary.

It's old enough laptop model, so I imagine that a lot of dust blocking the cooling fan. Therefore, clean it with a jet of compressed air to blow the dust from the cooling fans. The exact procedure is described here:
[How to clean a Toshiba laptop cooling system? | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=40]

I hope that it helps :)
