Re: Satellite A40 - hard drive error - will not start

My friend bought this laptop in April 2007 and has been very happy with it until about a month when he stopped startup in windows xp.

At the start, she now gets the message

"PXE - E61 media test failure - check the cable for.
"PXE - M0F outgoing intel boot agent"
"Insert system disk in drive."
"Press a key when you are ready.

and then the laptop does not start in windows.

I thought that the hard drive can have detached, so I took it out and he handed in a State, but in vain.

I also tried to reinstall with the recovery CD but get the following error message
status «»
GDISK (E) no such fixed disk 1 "

It is followed by * ERROR *.
Error number 11030
invalid message destination drive
X;

I ran a Toshiba (or he could have Hitachi) utility disk that I burned on a cd and went up on the audit boot.

It said there are problems on Toshiba MK4025GAS, which is the hard drive. details coincide with what it actually says on the disc.

The BIOS sees the drive start on as he is listed as the master, with the cd as the secondary drive.
Therefore, is it true that the drive is broken. If so - can it be repaired or is there another solution.

I tried Googling the error message and there are conflicting messages on this issue, so your help would be very appreciated.
It seems crazy that the reader can break after only 18 months - was there a defective batch?

If that's the case Toshiba offers a replacement or it will cost a lot?

Thank you

Nashy

Post edited by: Nashy - sorry - it was bought in 2007 is NOT 2006

In your case, the HARD drive is certainly defective and you need to replace. Satellite A40 is pretty old laptop without guarantee valid and there is no replacement from Toshiba.

Just buy a new HARD drive. Hard drives for this good old classic are not more expensive.

    Hello

It decodes for hard drive error 305 or the hard drive has failed, you will need to get the replaced hard drive and reinstall the OS and have a Fresh start, note that all your data is saved on the hard drive will be lost.

  • MacBook Pro Panic error - will not start

I'm getting the following at the start. Have no idea what it is or what to do. Appreciate any advice.  Backup the latest TM is dec 10. But can't even get the stages of recovery to work.  Tests of material D on OK.

If you're in Snow Leopard as your profile is displayed, follow these steps:

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive

1 fix the hard disk and permissions

Boot from your Snow Leopard installation disc. After the installer loads, choose your language and click on the button continue. When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu. After that the charges of THE select your entry from hard drive (mfgr. ID and car size) in the list on the left.  In the status area, you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is faulty or has failed. (State SMART is not reported on external drives Firewire or USB). If the drive is "verified", then select your OS X volume in the list on the left (subentries under the entry for the road), click the first aid tab, then click the repair disk button. If THE reports any errors that have been corrected, and then run repair disk again until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, click repair permissions . Wait until the operation is complete, then exit FROM and return to the installer.

If THE reports errors, it cannot be resolved, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you do not have one of them or none of them can fix the disc, then you will need to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS X.

    2 reinstall Snow Leopard

If the disc is OK then leave FROM and return to the installer.  Proceed to reinstall OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a new copy of Mac OS X, the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, elements of support and network preferences in the newly installed system.

Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 v1.1 updated Combo.

If the above does not work, then follow these steps:

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard

Make sure that you have backed up your files because the following procedure will remove all of the hard drive.

    1. start the computer using the Snow Leopard installation disc or disc 1 that came

with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.

After the ring, press and hold the C"" key.  Release the button when you see

a small gear appear under the dark gray Apple logo.

    2. once the load setup program select your language and click continue

button. When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu.

After charge OF select hard drive entry in the list on the left (mfgr. ID and drive

size.)  Click the Partition tab in the main window of THE.  Set the number of

partitions to one (1) from the Partitions of the dropdown menu, click on the Options button

GUID, click OK, and then select define the Mac OS Extended format type

(Logged, if supported), and then click the apply button.

    3. when formatting is complete FROM and return to the installer.  Move forward

with the installation of OS X and follow the instructions included with the installer.

    4. Once installation is complete your computer will restart in the Setup

Assistant. After finishing Setup Wizard will complete the installation, after which

you will use a new installation of Mac OS X.  You can now begin the process of updating

at the opening of updated software and installing all recommend updates to bring your

    current installation.

    5. If you plan to sell or to give to your remote computer, then proceed as follows:

Once you reformat your hard disk and reinstall OS X, the computer restarts with a

Screen of welcome and you prompt to choose a country or region. If you want to leave

the Mac in an out-of-box state, do not continue with the configuration of your system. Instead,.

Press command-Q to stop the Mac. When the new owner turns on the Mac,

  • Satellite A40: HARD drive no longer works

I have a Toshiba Satellite A40 with a 40 GB hard drive that was supplied as standard.
I have had absolutely no problems with it since buying it... so far.

On September 19 I left my laptop (do nothing) for a while I had to rush. I went back to the 'blue screen of death' that says I had a hardware failure and Windows were closed. It was late, so I turned off the laptop and he left until the morning.

The next morning I start the laptop. It makes a noise of terrible rattle than he ever has before. It loaded windows extremely slowly, me connected and then crashed to blue screen.

When I heard the noise, I thought it was the turbine that is blocked will cause the laptop overheating and stopping. Then I checked the fan for obstruction and dust and then cleaned the dust out of the heatsink at the back. I turned on the laptop and the sound came back.

After listening to the noise more closely, I heard that he was not coming right in front of him - the hard drive fan, but the compartment. So when I started the computer I got the Toshiba POST screen and then it would not start. I booted from the recovery CD to reformat the HD, but whenever he tries to read the HD to start re-formatting it crashes. And now, whenever I turn it on I get the message "insert system disk".

I had this problem before with another computer and everything just re-installed windows, but I have never had such a strong and terrible HD noise. I'll try to reinstall windows later today, but wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar problem and if it would be wise to replace the HD altogether. Preferabbly I want to reinstall Windows and recover files lost which unfortuently have not been saved, I typed only their place the same day.

Any comments or ideas would be very useful.
    Thank you.

    Hello

For me, the matter is very clear. According to the description of you, it sounds like a HARD disk head crash. The noise is coming from the inside of the HARD drive.
In addition, the message "Insert system disk" appears because the BIOS can not find the HARD drive or operating system.

Well, unfortunately, in my opinion it is not big thing to do. I don't think that replace drive HARD will solve this problem and allows you to reuse the laptop.

    Good luck

  • Satellite P100: HARD drive sometimes fails to start or just not responding

I have a satellite P100 on xp professional service pack 2. Sometimes it fails to start and appears as if the hard drive just stopped responding, does not require defragmentation.

Checked all Diagnostics pass, can get it started by selecting the boot options multiple F12, HDD that appears first in the list.

Although it seems not take a long time.
Sometimes it seems to stall at the start to the top but picks up then after a few minutes and fortunately sometimes it starts without a problem.

What is data corrupted in the bios? but then why it starts ok sometimes and not others? It doesn't matter if it's hot or cold.

any ideas or help greatly received.

    Hello David

It's a very strange situation, and for me there is no explanation simply. In my opinion the laptop or HARD drive, the functionality must be tested properly. Here in the forum we can speculate just what is the problem here but mobile startup must be tested with the other HARD drive pre-installed with original recovery image.

It will be interesting to know if the problem disappeared with new HARD drive. So what you can do now? If possible, try to get the second HARD drive and do the only testicles or make a call to the authorized service center and explain the situation. If the laptop is guaranteed to be valid, it will be better to check in service because they can replace free HARD drive (if the HARD disk is defective).

Sorry, but I don't see another solution. Some test with the new HARD drive can help you to understand if this happens because of the HARD drive. I don't think that the BIOS can be responsible for the issue described.

How the hell can I put the original back with it works?

    Really really stuck with it!

    Any help would be appreciated.

The only thing I have not tried is the restore disc but I'm not paying for one if it does not start as itl be a waste of money.
Looks like it is a compatibility issue with the processor and hard drive because they won't be friends!

    Thanks in advance

    Hello!

You can start in safe mode?

If you don t have a recovery disk, use the Microsoft installation disc and try to boot from it.
And you said that you can boot from the hard t disc, done you have tried different discs?
Maybe some are not legible or not bootable.

The best way would be a recovery disk. The installation takes a few minutes and you have a clean install with all the drivers and tools of Toshiba.

  • my hard drive cloning will not affect the computer in the new OS?

I currently have a Gateway laptop that is running Windows Vista. The hard drive in the new ASUS that works under Windows 7 I just bought cloning affect or replace 7 with VISTA?

    Hello

    Yes, it will affect it

It will not work for many reasons

Your Gateway vista is an OEM license and is linked to the original machine on which it is installed

    It is not transferable

even if it's a retail license, which is not the case, it would not start as gateway motherboard drivers are installed on the old hard drive

and above all, it will not activate because it is only an OEM license tied to the Gateway Laptop

All this occurred within three days of using Windows 7 x 64, so I don't think there is a previous restore point to go back to. However, I would not I install updates to be rendered unusable and allow my system, and their insecurity. And, as stated in my original post, I have gone through the drivers to uninstall or disable normal, remove, reinstall, etc. etc. without help.

An update my original post, I finally got the unit of work, although not as fast as it was in Vista x 86. I did back up the device to a laptop from Vista Home Premium I have, let it load the drivers it needs, and then after reconnection to 7, it has been working well, but overall slowly in read/write functions and clicking on a lot more than he did primarily when operating. What I went through get this thing to work, I think that the currently loaded driver is for a 32 bit OS, and there is no update (again) for 64-bit. I leave it alone, because it is functional, and if it is not recognized after the next set of Windows updates, I guess I have to restore to a previous image.

Dell doesn't seem to have anything for her, and Seagate plans explicitly on their site that they don't provide drivers for this HARD drive while referring to Microsoft or the manufacturer of the equipment for drivers.

When I hold the button '0' on start nothing happens. The beginning of doesn´t of system recovery.

Can you help fix the problem.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Hello

This does not work because you have installed Win 7 64 bit as you said here:
    > I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, that the laptop came with Win7 Home Premium 32 bit.
But have you tried also pressing F8-> fix my computer-> drive HARD recovery?
    Try this

Otherwise, drive HARD recovery does not work because the boot manager has been changed or damaged as a result of the new install of Win 7 and this is why you cannot load HARD drive recovery.
That is why it s always recommended to create a recovery disc before changing anything on the HARD drive.

What to tell buddy you need recovery disks. I guess that you have a European model for laptop

You can order the recovery discs here:

    Hello

Sometimes, CDs and burned DVD cannot be read with no closing sessions of engraving. You should check this option.
In addition, this burning program did you use?
I use Nero. Form is the program better combustion and I never had a problem.
What you need to do is to test several DVDs. not all media work on the disc.

    Hi DanSiroky,

Windows that reports using its built-in algorithms and these standards, drives
do not defragment. However, there are other commands to change how the Defragmenter
reorganizes the files on the disk. 3rd party tools can also be used for added functionality and/or

  • Satellite A200-PSAF6A - white screen, will not start

I've had for about a year or more now, out of warranty, and I had no problems so far. The operation of the machine is perfect, done a little warm here and there, but I never had blockages of material etc. The problem lies in the boot process where it lights up but the screen remains black and the HARD drive activity light flashes once, the optical reader clicks like it normally does at the start, and all the normal power supply/battery lights are as they should be, but the laptop will not progress beyond that. The power led remains blue and there is not much activity from the hard drive or any part of the material. This not even the screen of the BIOS at all. At some point, which I suppose because I can't see a pattern emerging in any form, the laptop will emit several beeps and the HDD led starts to blink signifying a boot up is ongoing, but the screen remains blank. At this point, if I turn off the laptop holding the power button / I am sometimes able to start with the display work, but once these things are depend on chance then sometimes it works and sometimes it isn't. Is that a real problem for me because I use this laptop for school and I get sometimes it will feed any or he will, and I'll have to wait a certain amount of time, which could be easily half the class and when he does the beep hard distracted others which is quite annoying.

Now, I went through a lot of similar topics and tried what was said, but to no avail of course. I tried to delete all the components (RAM, HDD, optical drive, Wifi etc.) and reinstalling them that sometimes only a temporary solution. In the RAM slot I have 800 mhz and 1x1GB 667 mhz-1x2GB, I tried various arrangements with the installed RAM and RAM I have around my house, but I have not yet come to a solution. I find that I can't start up with RAM in just the second slot, I guess it's probably normal, but if it's not please comment and tell me otherwise because I read about another solution to a similar problem a person should use the ram in the second slot to get his laptop to start.

My suspicion is that it's to do with a kind of BIOS check or maybe a BIOS corrupted, that I could not resolve without a technician because I am already in the current version of the BIOS. I did not update the BIOS that is not. If not then I'll assume that it is just a fault of power on the motherboard circuit. It's a really weird problem because it works quite well after, and I don't think it's a hardware problem perfectly serious because he wouldn't if it was.

Any help is appreciated on the topic, share your knowledge, if you have had a similar problem because whatever it is would be useful

    Thank you

    James

I'm not 100% sure but I think that the graphics card can be removed. Maybe you have enough experience with replacement of equipment, but laptop disassembly without maintenance manuals can be risky.
I really hope you know what you're doing. Maybe you should contact the nearest authorized and ask for help.

BTW: Where you want to get the new graphics card Satellite A200?

  • Add the new hard drive, windows does not start now

OK, ill be as specific as possible here

Ive always had a few hard drives in my computer at all times

A few days ago, I had problems with my windows 7 install that I tabled to the installation while I had all of my hard drives connected at installation time.

2 days ago I decided to start over fresh with a windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. I also bought a new 64gig OCZ SSD for my OS.

I disconnected all my drives except the SSD and performed a complete installation of windows 7 and all a well worked first go again.
I then started to shut down my computer and adding a hard drive to the times and re starting and in ensuring that the drive letters came back how I got them I had on my previous built and changing them were nessisary.

I installed my 5 drives in this case and the computer rebooted fine and everything was perfect until!

    installed hard drives
    1 SSD 64 GB
    2. 1.5 TB of storage
    3. 1.5 TB of storage
    4. 320 GB movies
    5. 320 GB games

I copied all HDD 4. movies (only movies and music files) on disk 3.
then I removed the hard drive of 4 and replaced by a new hard disk 1.5 TB and restarted the computer
the computer starts very well and once loaded windows I coppied the movies and music of the new 1.5 TB hard drive back.

    now, I had

    installed hard drives
    1 SSD 64 GB
    2. 1.5 TB of storage
    3. 1.5 TB of storage
    4 movies 1.5 to
    5. 320 GB games

This is were the problem started. I restarted my computer and it wouldn't start. He gets the message of realteck and just a cursor flashes and remains like that permanently.

If I remove the sata cable to the back of the hard disc 4 the computer starts fine
I can plug the cable in just before the windows screen comes up and the hard drive works fine and is FLEURIDAS and all.
but leave it plugged during the start of what the computer does nothing

things I've tried, I made sure all my boot priorities are pointing to the SSD drive
I have turned all devices normal priming and the hard drive with the OS selected
Ive made sure that all the drive letters are correct on each drive
Ive tried to get started with the windows 7 CD to get to the repair section and I click Repair tool, start it recconises there is a problem but informs me it can not be fixed automatically and asks me if I want to send the information to microsoft (which me).

It's really made me this one any help will be great and thanks in advance
