Satellite A50 - starting possible USB DVD writer external?

I have a Satellite A50-11 four years old, I need to format a partition of the hard drive (the one with XP) installed but my DVD burner is broken.
My BIOS supports booting by an external DVD burner? Where it shouldn't, should I have any other possibility?

Thank you

I doubt that this could be possible

As far as I know the BIOS supports booting from HARD, ODD, LAN and USB FDD (floppy) disk

See you soon

  • Cannot start on USB 3.0 external hard drive?

I have created a startup disk, so much for my new Mac Pro 2013 and finally to put in my old Mac Pro silver tour 2012.

I did a clean install of El Capitan on an external HD. Nothing else on the subject. The Western Digital 2 TB Green is in a pregnant Sabre, connected to a USB 3.0 hub, which is connected to the new Mac Pro 2013. I tried a couple of different ways to select external HD and boot to it, but I keep priming in Macintosh HD SSD installed in the Mac Pro (2013).

I was wondering if the problem is the hub. Should the HD be connected directly to the Mac Pro?

Should the HD be connected directly to the Mac Pro?

    Yes, exactly.

The reason is that a USB Hub arrives too late to be seen at boot time, so the drive is not available to start from.

It is also a problem for the use of 'hang up the keys' at startup - beyond the hub keyboard is not visible at startup.

  • Satellite 100-049-engraver of DVD writes only a few files and then fails

My burner is Mat * a DVD RAM UJ850S ATA device and I am running Windows Vista. The problem is this: I start burning Burn option of Windows media player. I select the files to be burned, the fire starts. It breaks down after 3 or 2 files and then error occurs and the burning stops.

No error message appears. It is not possible to remove the burner CD without stopping the system. You can open the burner again during the restart. My burner is almost unused, it reads CDs and DVDs without problem I noticed.

Anyone who has experienced the same type of behavior - advice?

    Hello

I didn t has experienced these problems, but a quick question: have you you tried to burn files not only with this media player to windows, and then also with a full program of burning (like nero, cdburnerXP, CloneCd, etc.) to see if the same error occurs with a program designed just for burning files?

It could be that the Windows Media player not fully supports the burner, so it would be interesting to try.

Appreciate some comments on your success with this issue, just to keep me in the loop. :)

  • Portege 3490CT - I can't install XP using the USB dvd burner

    Hello

I can't install Windows XP Home edition. I have USB-DVD writer and also an external recorder Toshiba on PCMCIA (CPI 5025a Toshiba) but he couldn t find any external recorder.

I remove the HARD drive and format the extern in 2 parts.
I first install BACK and copy the files of Windows XP Home edition on the second part, but I could also install it because of the conflict of the FAT and NTFS t. In the BIOS, I chose cardbus-16 bit. My CD burner works (tested before).

Please help to install Windows on my laptop.

You cannot install Windows XP directly because there is no driver for the external optical drive to build.

Mainly, you're on the right track.
Format the HARD drive, make two partitions the two FAT32.
Copy the folder I386 from your CD to install XP on the second partition.
    Start the installation calling winnt.exe.
Install XP on the partition of frist.
After the installation is complete, you can use the XP "convert.exe" command to change FAT32 to NTFS partitions. Run "convert.exe /?' in a DOS window to get the correct settings."

  • Re: Satellite M70-148 - new compatible DVD player

I have a Satellite M70-148 and the DVD writer is dead some time ago, I'm looking to replace it now but I'm stuck. After looking a bit on Amazon, I found these:
    http://www.Amazon.de/GP/product/B0052JJ44C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&m=AX7W93QYFVSA2
    http://www.Amazon.de/GP/product/B0052JJ2P8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&m=AX7W93QYFVSA2

Is the 2 only I could find on Amazon, I asked the seller as well, but I prefer to know for sure, anyone know if either will fit in a M70 148? All this looks like but what about the connector etc...

    Thanks for any help!

    Hey,.

    What vendor you asked?
If it were an authorized service provider, you can be sure that the readers, they mentioned will not work properly and I would like to buy only one disk recommended by a service provider authorized because different readers have different pinouts, etc. to 100%, so not all readers are compatible.

I can t tell if Amazon readers are compatible or not, but if you ask an authorized service provider can give you an exact answer ;)

  • Satellite 2450-201: update driver DVD - IDE #1 error

    Hello

I need help to upgrade the dvd for my laptop model Satellite 2450-201 with internal dvd writer.

I have LG and I got this message at startup: error IDE #1. Any suspicion that I speak with Dep. error tech and he said that the problem of compatible driver. I think that good performance with the system.

If I update the bios from 1.3 to 1.5 it will solve this problem?
Or do I need another brand name model to replace the old DVD with DVD - RW?

    Hello

As someone from the tech, adj. suggested that this error message appears because the car is not compatible.
The disc has a bad master/slave setting and so the BIOS can not recognize the drive.
To resolve this problem, you must upgrade the laptop with compatible player.

    I found a compatible Toshiba PA3255U-1DV1 DVD-RAM drive. But this isn't a burner.
I suggest to contact Toshiba service partner in your country to control the compatible player and supported. So you can be sure that you will get a good player.

    Hi Arek

In my opinion, there are many reasons that may be responsible for this problem.

One of them is a conflict with other software of CD burning, that is currently or was once installed on the system. These other recording programs registry changes is the normal cause and only for cleaning the registry after removing the software will solve the problem.

You have some other burning software installed on your device?

My internal DVD player on my Toshiba Satellite Pro P100 failed, and my windows is broken.
So I bought an external DVD drive to boot from, so I can recover the system using the product recovery DVD.

Now, he actually goes ahead and starts from the DVD. But once in the setup it gives me the message: "ERROR: file Setenv.ini D:\Setenv.ini or X:\Tools\Setenv.ini not found!

So I went ahead and checked if the file was... it was... but it is on Drive E:\ (probably because it's a USB device I'm starting from)

-J' did some research and found that I needed to run the command: X:\tools\recogui /FE: say the recovery my files were actually on drive E:-which has helped a little... until I got a new error where it was always looking for the *. TPA file on drive D: eventhough I have via recogui had specified otherwise.

Now what do I do to understand everything is to the recoveryprocedure on drive E: and not D:, as he seems to think?

You can start only from the inside, ODD, HARD, LAN disk and external USB FDD (floppy)

    Hello

I hope someone here can help me...
After that a few years of the 'waste' on my Satellite A50 collection, today I wanted to format the hard drive and start with a clean installation of Windows XP.
Before that, I had both a wireless network and an external hard drive connected via USB, and the two works great.
Now, after that cleaning installed, Windows always tells me that I have material fast USB connected to a slower USB port and under 'Hardware', there is a USB controller that is not properly installed. However I can't find the drivers for this anywhere!
I know that it must be possible to update the USB 2.0, because until yesterday everything worked very well.

    Can someone help me please?

    After the foregoing:

References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.

Step 1: Please make all underneath the same if you have done some before as is often
the set of operations that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device.
The driver tab - click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then do a RIGHT CLICK
the reader - UNINSTALL - REBOOT this will refresh the default driver stack. Even
If the drive appears not to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, might

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then check

Often, clean power and contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the system
Designer and manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case
(Read burn CD & DVD and CD and DVD). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 pieces
No function while others do so properly.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? He

    be the cause.

Check with your system manufacturer Maker and possible device for two firmware

Here are the keys in my opinion, are those in question - for the CD/DVD drive - sub
the key of course because there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific
involved as well as the settings key.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

  • Question about recovery use DVD on Satellite A50

    Hello

My son forgot where he put the recovery DVDs for the Satellite A50 laptop (bought in store for almost 5 years) future, he tried to install Windows XP using another CD.
Later, we found the recovery DVDs, but we can no longer use it.
Is it possible to delete the operating system and re-use the original recovery DVD?

    Thank you

Preinstalled WXP has nothing to do with your try to install OS using recovery media.
I'm really confused why this is happening, but that s be clear:

Saved on recovery media recovery image is created for some portable model and cannot be used on another model of laptop. So before installing recovery starts, recovery image check and compare information with the laptop. If the information stored in recovery image correspond to the information stored on laptop recovery installation is possible, otherwise it will stop.

When the laptop is faulty or repaired service must be portable computer information with the good. If this is not the laptop can be recognized and recovery plant will be halted.

So if nothing is changed on the laptop my only theory is that there is something wrong with the recovery media.
You can send us all the information written on this recovery media (numbers)?

  • Satellite C70D - how to start from the DVD

    Hello
You just bought a Satellite C70D with Win 8.1. Everything works (as much as I know to knowledge), except start it from the DVD. I disabled the Secure Boot in the bios and changed the boot order on a DVD first, then USB and HARD drive. The DVD player starts, but then it jumps on the HARD disk and Windows is started. First time I tried there was a message like "DVD boot not supported" or something like that.
The DVD is bootable, so it's not the problem.
I want to install Linux Mint alongside Windows.
Someone has already solved this problem?

    Hello.

I have a Satellite 2450-101, on which the DVD player seems to have failed (could be engine, laser; uncertain).

I want to perform a full restore of the product, using both disks that came with the computer.
Defective hard drives before, I copied the data on these disks to an external hard drive and a usb flash drive.

Is it possible for me to run the recovery of the proceeds of one of these media (or indeed any source, other than the internal DVD player)?

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. See you soon.

Hmmm I doubt that this can be possible because it is not possible to boot from a USB flash or external HARD disk drive.

What you could do is to copy the folder the original Microsoft CD i386 on the HARD drive and then you can run setup.exe from this folder.
It would begin installing the XP installation program.

But Toshiba Recovery disk contains only image files and there is no i386 folder and therefore, you need the CD of XP Ms.
