Satellite A500 - BIOS downgrade - HOWTO

I had to get off my Satellite A500 BIOS v1.50 v1.30.
I found no information on how to do it, so I had to research, and eventually I got.
I hope it will be useful to someone...

Steps (* at your own risk *):

(1) run the update of BIOS Toshiba v1.30.

(2) when you get the older version error message, do not close the window.

(3) copy WINPHLASH temporary folder (in my case, + c:\Windows\Temp\WINPHLASH+). Paste it into a different folder.

(4) WinPhlash close this window.

(5) open your new + WINPHLASH + folder. Edit + PHLASH. INI file +. Set + Advanced = 1 + and save.

Race 6) + WinPhlash.exe +.

(7) click + "Advanced settings" +.

(8) uncheck + "Flash only if the BIOS version is newer than the system +.

(9) click on 'OK + ' +.

(10) click + "Flash BIOS" +.

Hi mate

Thanks for sharing this info with us.
But the upgrade BIOS or down is always a reasonable procedure and as you mentioned in your ad; everything you do is to always at your own risk.

I read some horror stories about Toshiba users who have tried a BIOS update, although Windows like Toshiba recommends, and their computers got fried. It seems that it was a problem experienced by Toshiba (I mean that they knew the question users face tried updating the BIOS thei), which they tried to resolve with this latest version of the BIOS.

Has anyone tried this update and I share his opinion? Is it a go come or not?

    Thank you guys.

To be honest I ve read also several horror stories in this forum on the BIOS update, but the question is do this people do BIOS update following the instructions of Toshiba.
Can you imagine that some people make recovery installation or update of the BIOS on power electric battery? And when the cell phone cut because of the empty battery then it is Toshiba's fault of course.

I did several times on different laptops upgrade BIOS and everything goes well.
The fact is, all available BIOS updates are tested.

Can you please send us the exact laptop model name or model number? I want to check the BIOS update is available for your model of laptop.

  • Dead by Satellite A500-1pj after involuntary Bios Update

    Hello world

A friend of mine bought a new PC laptop toshiba Satellite A500-1pj a month ago. Windows 7 pro 64-bit pre-installed.
Also preinstalled: support software toshiba who - correctly - configured search automatically and installs updates and critical fixes.

Last Sunday this wonderful software recommended an update 'critical' to my friend - she's no expert but a user experienced who can make the difference between an update of the bios (and avoid this!) and a security patch, she agreed to download and install what she believed to be a security update.

Sure, she gave permission to an update of the bios being installed. During the process of updating the machine froze completely. She waited for three hours and then pulled the plug. Guess what: the machine is now completely gone. Does not display without fan, simply nothing.

Hotline support Toshiba told him that his cell two weeks old is not under warranty because this warranty does not cover software 'problems and the Bios updates are software upgrades.

The company repair says a repair will very probably equal to buy a new laptop so here we are...

    My questions:

    (1) the laptop is a Satellite A500-1pj (PSAR9E-01M00QGR) fitted to a phoenix UEFI bios (bios toshiba/phoenix, 1.1.26 update tool is pretty radical - no warning at all! he tried to update me my computer dell laptop, lucky!).
I found some posts on older machines that can be reflashed using a usb disk, hot spare bios back and a combination of keys (Fn + B or Fn + F...). is it possible to do this with a UEFI bios too?

    (2) anyone out there have the same problem?

    (3) any chance of toshiba help us with that issue and prevent others from making the same mistake to understand at least a warning in their bios updates?

    Thanks for your help!

    Tony

    > The company repair says a repair will very probably equal to buy a new laptop so here we are...
    I doubt that
I think that the module ROM BIOS was flashed incorrectly (don't know why) and therefore you can not start the laptop.
This can happen for different reasons, maybe that the update process was interrupted due to a process running in the background, etc.

In order to solve this problem, the ROM module must be flashed again using a special crisis disk BIOS... that's all.

The update of the BIOS is always a sensitive procedure but if everything was done correctly, then update the BIOS must successfully complete.

I found this very interesting and useful to Toshiba and HowTo doc correctly updated the BIOS!

I would recommend contacting a local ASP (authorized service partner Toshiba) in your country. Guys will help you!

You will find here all the FSA all over the world:

  • Satellite A500-17 x - micro does not work after BIOS update

I have a Toshiba Satellite A500-17 x which I have just updated the BIOS to version 2, as recommended by the tempro software. Now with the new update my microphone does not work. Where can I download a copy of the old BIOS?

({I used winphlash64 in advanced mode to restore the original backup, it does to the computer, but it just gives the new bios to}) Thank you rich

    Hello

BIOS cannot be demoted in windows mode.
Even if you use an older version of BIOS update, you will get an error message saying that the latest BIOS version is already installed. So, forget the downgrade.

By the way: I put t think the update of the BIOS assigned the microphone.

Go to control panel of-> sound-> recording tab.
Here you will see all the available recording devices (micro)

Activate the microphone it (in this case the people with reduced mobility) and set its default value.

Where it works: reinstall the audio driver.

  • Satellite A500 emit after bios update 1.50

    Hey guys and girls,

I have some problems after the update of the bios. Before the update my laptop has been the scene of much smoother and everything was fine and dandy until Tempro told me to update my bios. The problem is that after the update, the temperature seems to be considerably higher as usual when I play the game (I am a gamer) and also all the games I play seems to be much slower than before (lower, gal frame rate). Before the update I could play Dragon Age Origins with 1366 x 768 with 4 x anti-aliasing and the only one that I could get the same performance with the graphic parameter above is on 800 x 600. Now, it is certainly a big problem for someone who is a graphics junkie when it comes to games.

    * What do you think I should do? *

    A. downgrade my bios for when I bought everything first? (I don't know what version of bios is if anyone knows the stock bios?)
    B. perform HARD drive recovery?
    C. clean install of Windows 7 64-bit?

    My laptop computer spec:

    Model name: Satellite A500
    Part number: PSAR3E-00N005EN
    Serial number: X9206227K
OS version: Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium edition
    BIOS version: 1.50
    Physical memory: 4096MB RAM
Graphics card: NVIDIA Geforce GT 230 M

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

    Hi mate

I think you had a version of BIOS 1.30
In older versions of the BIOS update are not available on the Toshiba driver download page. Only ASP (partner) has access to these early BIOS versions

In any case, I found an interesting thread:

Not sure if it could be useful but check

PS; the graphics card driver update is a good idea it too check

  • Satellite A500: update BIOS V1.50 is fan noise problem reappears

I have a Toshiba Satellite A500 with fan noise problem.
It has been partially resolved the upgrade of BIOS from v1.20 to v1.30, according to this thread:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=46719&start=0&TSTART=0

Yesterday I updated the BIOS v1.50, and the sound of the fan returned.
I do not recommend this upgrade if you have had the problem of fan noise.

I have downgrade BIOS v1.30 and fan noise problem is solved again.
I know that people have problems to get the downgrade to BIOS, so I describe the process in this thread:

Thanks mate for sharing this with us

But perhaps you could use the v1.5 BIOS and could reduce or reduce the activity of module cooling in Vista/Win7 power management settings.
It would be interesting to check it out

  • Touchpad no longer works after update BIOS on Satellite A500-1GL

    Hello world

I just bought my laptop Satellite A500-1GL today. I started at the top and plays a bit (nothing serious). The touchpad worked very well at the moment.

Then I discovered this tool to update the material and the update of the BIOS that worked without any problems. After I restarted the laptop, BIOS, loaded the default values of the installation and recorded.
After that Windows 7 (x 64) started the touchpad no longer works...

I downloaded the driver here and installed again once, still does not. I went into the BIOS, disabled the touchpad (I thought that maybe it's a bug...) and started again. It still does not...

I enabled it again in the BIOS, tried to push the function + F9, but it still does not... Finally, I used the recovery and installed a Windows 7 costs.
    But unfortunately it still doesn't.

Now, I'm out of ideas, can anyone help?
Is there a chance to get the older version of BIOS to downgrade it?

    Thanks in advance ;)

    Hello

It seems strange that after update Bios touchpad no longer works.

    > Is there a chance to get the older version of BIOS to downgrade it?

To be honest, I don't know where to find. In any case, do a search on Google. Perhaps, other users of the forum can give you a link to download.
The downgrade of the Bios is riskier upgrade procedure. So, be careful the next time...
Advice for the future; Do not touch the running system.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite A500 boot UEFI/legacy option - request for update of the BIOS-

    I am the proud owner of a Satellite A500 PSAR9A - 02S 001
I was very happy with it over the years.

However, when you try to dual boot, I use in all sorts of problems.

I really need uefi/legacy startup options to be unlocked in the bios menu
I think that this feature is present
However there is no options to configure in bios, please release an update for this.

    Please, I beg you.

It would help me a lot.
Not too much talk of what all the other hidden settings in the bios u could also unlock.
I'd appreciate any help in this

As far as I know, Toshiba offers a few changes of BIOS options and is not also a part of the BIOS updates.

What kind of problems you have with dual boot?
What is preinstalled on your computer? Post please some info on exact OS install.

  • Satellite A500 - update BIOS with dead battery

    Hi all

I have a Satellite A500 (PSAR3E) laptop and I need to update the BIOS to the latest version.
Unfortunately, my battery died completely, and I have no chance to get a working one.

I was trying to update the bios all day, but no matter how I try (even created a boot back drive and took command line phlash16, /forceit and so on) it keeps telling me that he needs at least 10% charged battery present.

How can this problem be solved?

    > If I remove the battery, engine update fails, say there is no battery present, if I fix the battery, then update will fail saying the battery must be at least 10% - but he died, this percentage is 0.
And you write about original Win version that you have downloaded from the Toshiba BIOS download page and started in Windows?

To be honest is unclear to me that there is a trick to avoid this situation.
Maybe something stupid, but now, do you really need to install the update to the BIOS?
Is there a problem with your machine?

  • After BIOS update Intel speed step does not not on Satellite A500

I upgraded my Satellite A500 PSAM3E model to the most recent BIOS 1.50, now the Intel speed step does not!

My CPU is always 2 GHz +, I have chagned power Plan to balanced, but no change... with precedent the CPU was about 800 MHz.
When I try to change the Windows 7 power management and set the maximum CPU at 50 or 80% performance, the system hangs.

    Hey Szaby59,

What older BIOS version were you using before update to 1.50?

I also use maximum CPU performance option for ecomode (50%), but it does not work properly.

In addition, it would be interesting to know if use you your own Windows installation or factory settings. Normally, after using the Toshiba Recovery disk you don t have install Toshiba tools more. Everything is preinstalled on your laptop.

  • Satellite A500 will not start - cannot access BIOS

    Hello

This morning, I got my satellite a500-1GH. I activated the option "quick start" in the bios and can not enter the bios since the screen jump the "f2" for the parameters and f12 for the boot menu and I can't get into the bios.

I tried press f2, as soon as I turn on the computer but it dosent get into the bios menu.

And also the custom of the bone rises, the stack of the screen in 'bbs-hard disk... boot. "and it stay like that until I shut down the computer.

    Please help me here...
    Thank you!

    Hello

To me it seems strange that you can not enter the Bios. I just suggest you plug the keyboard external usb and try to enter the Bios (maybe, for some reasons allowing the quick start, the laptop keyboard doesn't work pressing f2). Then try to remove the hard drive and check.

I've no idea what to say, maybe other users will also suggest something.

  • Satellite A500-025 - improvements of the new version of BIOS

I did an update of the bios on my Satellite A500-025. I had a version 1.2 and 1.5 BIOS update BIOS.

Anyone know what that improvements and is it advisable to always do a BIOS update when a new one comes out?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Normally the changelog of the BIOS is placed on the Toshiba laptop, but if you can t find it, unfortunately there is no available changelog.
By the way: I noticed that the BIOS changelogs are often placed on the Toshiba page we. Maybe you can find it there.

And this update should be carried out only if it of really necessary. If you n t have any problems, to forget about this update.
Never touch a running system! ;)

  • Satellite A500-1GL - cannot upgrade the BIOS

    Hello

I tried to upgrade the BIOS on my Satellite A500-1GL (PSAR9E) for awhile now, but a dead battery so I can not go beyond the security check at the beginning. Is it all of the way around it, like I'm connected with current alternative, so I don't see what the problem is! Could I have possibly self-extracting zip files.

Any help would be appreciated as this is very frustrating!

    Hello

I think that you will not be able to update the BIOS, if your battery is dead.
Victory based BIOS update can be updated from Windows system, and there is a security option that allow you to update the BIOS only if the laptop is connected to the power adapter and if the battery is charged.

You can update the BIOS using a traditional BIOS version, but as far as I know that Toshiba service partner could do that.

    If you have two options:
Purchase a battery in order to update the BIOS by using win according to BIOS version or you will get in touch with an ASP in your country and will ask you to update the BIOS by using the traditional version of BIOS.

But the BIOS update is necessary to you?

I have a laptop with the old BIOS version and I don't have that day even if the new version has been released.
