Satellite A660 - diagnosis of HD spin-up/down control

I got my Satellite A660 back from the shop. They replaced the HD with a high reallouees area County in a report S.M.A.R.T. and they also replace the mobo due to BSOD and NVIDIA display driver stops.

Since back them, I tried to find the source of a vibration felt at the touch pad (finger actually tingling). When I reported it to the Technical Support, they asked me to send it in their filing, what I'll do, but I was wondering if there was some kind of test, I could do before the arrival of their box. Because I don't have another machine, of course, it would help to be able to understand the case without sending it (but I can't disassemble the computer).

However, if nothing can be done about it, even if I find a probable cause, it could accelerate things if I provide information about things that seem to cause vibrations. In order to avoid possibly send in, I wonder if these vibrations are necessarily harmful (I thought specifically about the consequences long term hard disk). They thought it might. Then send it I will.

The vibration is not correlated with the fan - on time. At least not one that whirs every few seconds and causes the hot air to come out of the vent. I'm assuming that there is only one fan, based on information from a technician. I was wondering if it could be correlated with the rotation of the HD setting. Y at - it a diagnostic application that allows the user control if the disc is spinning?

As far I know this app doesn't exist, and I also think that it can be really bad idea to use it. Why?
Each of us want to have a very quiet machine, but the fact is that portable devices produces a lot of heat and material must be properly cooled.

Several sensors placed on motherboard control material temperature and activate the cooling system (fan) if necessary. In advanced settings of power there is an option where you can reduce the level of method. You can try to use it.

Anyway, if you have noticed anything on your laptop which can be defined as unusual or not normal contact service behavior and they should fix.

    Hello Ardo

My advice to you is to contact Toshiba service as soon as possible. You bought the new product with a warranty and it should work. Describes problems sounds quite serious and you should not waste your time waiting for tips.

Be honest, what can you do about it? Not much. You can try to reinstall OS, play with block power (start without battery, test with AC adapter only) remove the memory and check this yet, but in general, I put t think this will help.

Contact the service and let them check your laptop.
Do you know how to find the service provider authorized in your country?

  • Satellite A660 - display seems to come out of the 'calibration '.

I often hibernate instead of shut down or restart, even if I go to and from an administrator account to update Windows 7, Firefox and antimalware. I find that the screen tends to get all washed out, as if someone bent to the high brightness and reduces the contrast. It is not quite the same thing as the real Visual problem resembles a panel painted which is being altered, as white dither. It disappears after a reboot.

  • Satellite A660-18 - screen too bright if the update to the BIOS?

Hi guys, I need your help with this laptop because it gives me a lot of problems.

I changed the screen of this Satellite A660-18 because one had been installed has been damaged. I installed and works fine but I have problems with the brightness. When I click - on brightness, it goes back and when I click on + it breaks down. It is much too bright and want to do something about it.

Bios help to solve this problem and how Flash the BIOS on these laptops? I flashed the BIOS on desktop pc but on that I don't see any way to do it. Is it possible to fix the screen without changing the BIOS? Some have said that I have to Flash the BIOS as new screens do not work 100% with old BIOS.

    Help, please

    Thank you

    Hi sky blue,

You have an original spare part of Toshiba (display) or is it a 3rd party screen? It is important to use the Toshiba spare parts only because they are tested and designed for your Toshiba laptop. If you use 3rd party parts, they may not work.

The version of the BIOS has nothing to with the brightness of the display and the brightness of the display can be changed with the key FN + F6/F7 combination, but not in the BIOS.

  • Satellite A660 - USB 2.0 ports are inadmissible

My laptop series Satellite A660 is a month old and worked fine so far. However, I turned on the machine and all the three Ports USB 2.0 are inadmissible. I Shut Down and restarted the computer - no change.

In fact, NO device in one of the three (3) USB2.0 Ports are actually be recognized or working at all - there is no answer. Interestingly, the port eSATA/USB combo of 1 one works and responds correctly.

    Can anyone help?

Should I just send it was pushing the shop? Yes, it's still under warranty.

    Hey,.

    > Should I just send it was pushing the shop?
No, I think that it s just a USB driver problem.

In your case I would reinstall the chipset of the official website of Toshiba driver. Also, you have the latest version, try to reinstall it because it contains the USB drivers and maybe it's something wrong with her s.

After installation of the chipset driver test it again. If it doesn t work to remove all the USB ports on the Device Manager and restart your laptop. The USB ports will be reinstalled automatically.

  • Satellite A660-18 - WLan cannot be enabled - SOLUTION

Awhile back I posted this message on my wireless LAN switching solution.

I finally solved this annoying problem, my laptop is a Satellite A660-18

Out of the box it just wouldn't connect to the wireless network. With the combination of keys Fn + F8 of the report: "Wireless communitcation is disabled, please enable the wireless communication switch.

Of course there is no such switch, just the FN + F8 key combination. After having tried various forums and technical support, I solved the problem myself.

    * The solution is: *.

Go to the folder on your c drive "program files\Toshiba\TBS. Then scroll down the list of program files and double-click the file named TBSWireless.exe and hey presto, wireless communication goes on (Amber Light lights on the lower right front of the computer). Now the combination of FN + F8 key it will turn on and.

    Bye to all

But I just realized I forgot to mention, you just do this once after the FnF8 press key on functions correctly.

I had to redo the procedure recently when I've updated my Bios system, the wireless Lan would pass on once again, regardless of how many times I pressed FnF8. But the routine above it sorted once more.

So now, rather than to go through the routine of the entire folder/file, I just click right on the file of TBS and then selected send to the taskbar, so now if the problem persists, I just click the TBS icon in my taskbar.

    hope this helps,
    End

    Hello

    I own TOSHIBA Satellite A660 - 10 X
the problem is that fan will slow (when the laptop starts its goes much faster that slowing it down). Problem is that the laptop is overheating and that it stops without any warning. I'm working on it and must be reliable.

I tried the power management but there are only "optimized batery' or 'up', but at least it won't max for sure.

Is it possible to check the speed of the fan? I tried several aplications to see fan speed but they do not work.

And I never found fan in BIOS.

You use applications that require a lot of graphics performance?

  • Re: Satellite A660 - media buttons do not work

First of all I apologize if my language is not good, because I'm Spanish.

I have a * Toshiba Satellite A660-13D * and this model has a button touch media at the top, next to the keyboard. Here is a picture with the buttons marked in red: [http://forums.toshiba.com/tshb/attachments/tshb/brd_input/10621/1/Toshiba-Satellite-A660-Multimedia-Notebook.jpg]
Two days ago the buttons works well. There are a few buttons, one for an ecological mode, one to turn wireless on or off, one for play/pause Media Player, etc.. These buttons work only those who turn up and down volume. The button that activates / deactivates the Mouse-touchpad does not work too.

I'm looking for solutions, and one of them suggests the BIOS update. I tried to update my BIOS with the downloadable files of the Toshiba website for my model of PC, but when I run the executable, it always crashes with this message: Winflash for UEFI has stopped working. I read on someone with the same problem as me and someone replied that he should try executing the BIOS via a .iso file burned into a CD-Rom and boot from it. But, where I could get this .iso file? If I enter on the Toshiba site in English and go to the download section, I can't find my model Satellite, so I can not get the appropriate files. Is my Toshiba Satellite A660 13d, and I find only A660-ST2GX1, A660-BT2G22, A660-BT3N25X and similar products.

I would really appreciate if someone can help me with this. Thank you.

You have mobile EMEA model then all the drivers, tools and utilities that you can download from http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Try please reinstall extra package from Toshiba.

Here, you should check if all protocols are installed.

  • Re: Satellite A660 turns off

    Hello

In June last year, I bought a Toshiba Satellite A660, when I took out of the House and the box, he doesn't work, turn on, and then he clicks.

I got the next day traded with another sealed unit. While in the store of the computer, I demand to see work before I take it home. Open the box starts, it worked. Last month he began to go off while in the workplace, I linked to an overheating (it heats up a lot on day 1) I bought a laptop cooler, run on USB with 200 mm cooling fan. No difference, it is capricious, some days work all day another time just clicks off and I want to never start.

Today I'm not if happy because I can not start my work is always on it. What is my solution?

I am a computer professional and is my diagnosis for this laptop: it runs too hot and the breakdowns are inevitable in the first six to 12 months, depends on its daily use (hours / day).

    In my opinion:

    (A) I don't want to fix it (it is still under warranty) I need a replacement because it is a manufacturing defect.

    (B) If this model has design problems especially overheating then it should be exchanged with a reliable model equivalent.

    see you soon,

    Vania Lolham

    Hi mate

    (A) I don't want to fix it (it is still under warranty) I need a replacement because it is a manufacturing defect.

I think you need to check with your dealer to laptop.
To my knowledge the certified partner Toshiba is able to repair and fix the laptop, but you will not get a refund of ASP.
If the laptop is under warranty, your laptop will be corrected for free.

(> B) If this model has design problems especially overheating then it should be replaced with equivalent reliable model.

Don t think that there could be a problem of design one of my friends has a series, and it works properly.
First of all, you should check if you BIOS update could improve the functionality of the laptop.
You should also check if the dust and debris does not prevent cooling modules work correctly. In my case, my old laptop didn't work correctly because of the dust.
I used to delete this jet of compressed air and it worked.

Finally, I must say that it shouldn't be necessary to use additional cooling pads in order to cool the laptop. If portable s temperature is too high, then it must be something wrong. If above advice doesn't help, then I would say that the material could be affected and in this case, the technician must verify that

  • Cannot access drivers for Satellite A660 on Toshiba support website

    Hello

I think I need to update the video drivers on my Toshiba laptop (it's a Satellite A660, but I don't think that's relevant).

I tried to use the downloads on the Toshiba site page: http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/download. It gives me no answer, no list of products, nothing, if I try to use the drop-down lists or enter in my laptop of reference directly.
And it does the same thing using another laptop too.

    I'm doing something wrong?
Is there another way to make the product downloads?

    Hey,.

Which makes it very difficult to use the laptop that I can use is no longer the touch pad, as he will start. I can only use the laptop when I have a mouse connected.

How can I reallocate these buttons to their roles?

PS. I tried to install the value-added package with no result.

    Hi mark,

You should try to reinstall Toshiba Value added Package, and Flash Cards Support utility. These tools are necessary for the illuminated buttons and keys FN. Cool it down, that you can download on the official website of Toshiba:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

Install VAP in a first time, and then restart your computer and then install the Flash Cards Support utility. Reboot once more and everything should work again :)

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite A660 with a CARPET * A BD - CMB UJ141ES DVD/CD-ROM. It is around the age of 18 months and recently I noticed that it does not recognize the CD/DVD. He made a few noises once inserted but then stops spinning and nothing happens or changes in my computer.

Please note that there seems to be no apparent problem with the reader:
-It is present in my computer
-The device works correctly in Device Manager

    I already tried things:

  • Satellite A660-07U freezes when Streaming video

    I bought a Toshiba satellite A660 07U 2 months ago.
Since the beginning, when I try to watch any video streaming of Facebook, Youtube, etc, my system crashes completely and don't stop making the zzzzz... noise and I have to manually shut down the laptop by pressing the power button.

This happens very often now. I contacted toshiba support and the response was to change my microphone amplifier, configure Volume settings... : smileysurprised:.

Does anyone have advice for this problem?

    Hello

This only happens for internet streaming videos or have you noticed that also play videos stored on the HARD drive?
Could it be linked to the internet connection is slow?

If this isn't the case, then I would check the processes running in the background. Some processes may insist on the CPU, and this might be the reason of this gel.

    Just an another idea;
Have you checked a few other graphics drivers? Update the driver and test again.
    I recommend also using actors.
