Satellite C660 - 28 d - first impressions

I am happy to say that I just bought a toshi C660 28 d.
It has the Intel i3 core clocked at 2.4 Ghz. Front side bus to 1066 MHz.
I chose this model because it display 1080 p without glitching video youtube. Now that I have VLC, OpenOffice, Firefox, Gimp, DosBox, Process Explorer and a few other goodies installed, I'm a happy camper. I like same win7 now that I've discovered how to create a system restore point.

First impessions are very good with the exception of three questions.
1 / the touchpad with all its multi touch and the ability to scroll was so bad, I gave up and pulled out an old usb mouse out of the attic. Kept the thing "sulking" all the time and would take up to 5 seconds to move.

Drive USB 2 speeds / diabolically slow. 1 MB/s when the connection through a hub 4 ports USB 2. An acceptable 20 MB/s when connected solo. But here is the best, according to the self supplied from routine Diagnostics there are two internal USB ports on this system, but only one is connected to the outside world. This connection is done via a hub 8 internal ports. It has only two ports can be used. I think it means that there are 40 MB/s of the port bandwidth go to waste here. If someone comes up with a brazing hack to work around the hub 8 ports I'm strongly tempted to embark.

3 / this n wireless seems to be a bit of a lame duck. When I plugged in, we talked to 45Mbps. tonight we were able to connect to 58Mbps. My box wireless g connected to 56Mbps as it says on the Tin. It is any activity of 2.4 Ghz. Maybe I should try the 5Gig on my Netgear DGND3700 option.

Well, the features and additional touchpad options must adjust.
But this can be controlled and you can check the options of touchpad available in Control Panel-> mouse-> tab advanced-> avancĪ˜s

Brazing hack? I think that such procedure would undermine the mobo

802.11 N works only on 2.4 Ghz if 802. 11's is not supported by the wireless network adapter.

  • Driver Vista for Satellite C660 & using the free extended warranty EMEA code

First of all thank you for taking the time to read this email and possibly to answer me.
I encountered some problems when registering my Satellite and Toshiba Satellite A205-S5851 * Satellite C660.

First computer bought in the United States, and then in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Unfortunately * Satellite C660 came without windows operating system.

I have installed a licensed version of Vista Starter and now I'm having problems to install all the necessary drivers, because your web page supports only Windows 7 and XP.

I recorded my warranty and offered a free warranty extension (no way to activate it), but when I tried searching for support for my model on your web page, but it doesn't 'recognize' serial number!

I would be recognizing the assistance since it is my fourth Toshiba laptop and I want to be your customer.

    Best regards

    > I recorded my warranty and offered a free warranty extension (no way to activate it), but when I tried searching for support for my model on your web page, but it doesn't 'recognize' serial number!

If you have a few problems with the registration, I recommend to check this page:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/JSP/vpoWarrantyRegHome.do?service=EU&LNG=null

But are you sure you typed the correct serial number to 100%?
Maybe you have mistyped the serial number or mixed with letters or numbers

    I have a Satellite C660 - PSC0AQ-03C019 + 1B194392K

For the last year laptop worked fine in the last 2 months, however he had a problem starting. The first starting attempt of the day, it does not start, it is consumed on gets in front of splash screens after the cursor flashing in the top left then hold with a blank screen (not the cursor just a low glow).

Hold down the power button / turn off and turn on again then the computer will start. sometimes (not always), it will ask to start normally or repair.

The laptop works perfectly in use does not fall out of mistakes. Restarting the laptop works as expected close and turn on/off after 5 minutes works great.

If the laptop is left for an hour or more, it starts the same as above. turn off and turn on/off the system will start but with boot normally the question.

Enter the BIOS and set it to default settings. After that restart your laptop and to describe what is happening exactly.

  • Re: Driver ATI Installationsur Satellite C660 1 - EF

    Greetings!

I have a problem installing the ATI vga driver. I know that only drivers from the Toshiba site may be used, but they do not work yet. I have a Toshiba Satellite C660 laptop 1 - EF with ATI HD5470 and Windows 7 SP1 x 64 installed. I bought without OS, so I did not all discs.

After I installed it (clean install) of the OS, I have seen that some devices had been installed with the drivers built into windows (or not yet installed). So I decided to download the proper drivers. The first problem is that I couldn't find the driver ATI for W7 x 64 on the Toshiba site for this type of laptop. I tried to find a similar notebook that has the same graphics card. At least I could find a driver. But when I tried to install it, it was closed. He did nothing, just closed.

Since then, I've tried several drivers (most of them that I downloaded from the Toshiba site), but the result was the same.

    What should I do?

    Hello

It's good for Win7 64 bit ATI display driver.
    Can install you it?

  • Webcam is blurry on the brand-new Satellite C660

I just bought my Satellite C660 Saturday and have just opened the webcam for the first time.
It is REALLY blurry. I can't seem to find an option in the settings to fix, and I gave him a towel to check that it was not just dirty.

I read the posts about the different lights that can affect the quality of the image, but I just tested it out in the different lights and it did make a difference.

Can someone give me advice! I'm not really a techno person and I really want the webcam to work so I can use Skype!
    Thank you

Did you remove sticker protector of the cam?

  • BOOTMGR missing Satellite C660

    Hi people,

    I have the Satellite C660
Initially, I had a virus and tried to reinstall windows, but not good.
When it came to the point of saying there was not enough space on the windows installation disc,
I realized that I had forgotten the bit score.

Now when I try to start it again, it's a black screen that says... BOOTMGR... Manager of... is absent.
When I try to start again, I get the same point on not enough space on the disk
so im going round in circles and not getting any case,

I think to make a new hard drive, but no one knows how to fix this before I have to buy a new drive... has soon

Missing Boot Manager is an error message that is displayed if the laptop can not find and start the common system.
Therefore, find the reason why the system cannot be found.
I think that its HARD drive problem. The system partition or HARD drive is probably faulty.

In my opinion, you should access the BIOS and check if the HARD drive is listed on the first page of the BIOS.
In case it does not appear in the first page of the BIOS, the HDD isn't recognized and, therefore, I think that it must replace it before you try to reinstall the system.

  • Camera / Webcam quality on Satellite C660-155

    Hello

I bought a brand new Toshiba Satellite C660-155 only 3 days back. However, on the first day, the quality of the built-in webcam is very very poor.
The picture seems very noisy and only dorts and distortions appears even in full sun.

Can what steps I take to solve this problem?

Have you checked quality with preinstalled Web camera application or perhaps with Skype or MSN?

By the way: did you remove sticker protection of the cam?

  • Satellite C660 - right of the screen will flash green

Hey, I wonder if someone can help me - the screen on my satellite C660, only about two months old, started flashing green stripes a couple of days after I set the screen forward slightly. Nothing has got rid of him, and whenever the screen is moved it flickers more strongly or turns into a solid green Strip.

I thought that this could be a problem where the screen connects to the computer, but I looked around the hinges and it seem not to be the son of cowards. I have not yet contacted Toshiba because I'll have to call their support number UK since France, which will cost a bomb, wonder if anyone here had any ideas first? If it happened to someone else?

    Thank you!

In my opinion, it is not so important if someone else the bonnet or not and that you should not waste your time waiting for responses.

I put t know where you bought this laptop but every laptop purchased in Europe has guaranteed EMEA then please call authorized Toshiba service provider in the country where you live now and ask for help. You have the new laptop and if there are some hardware related question lets fix that.

Addresses and telephone numbers of aspic all you can find on Toshiba support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > support & downloads > find an ASP.

    Good luck.

I think I exaggerated my storage and deleted a program/driver too. As a result, I lost the use of the FN key. Can someone tell me what (s) I need to re - install? My laptop is a Satellite C660 - 10H.

    Hello

the FN keys require value added Package and Flash Cards Support utility. These two tools can be downloaded from the official website of Toshiba:http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/ > support & downloads > download DriversInstall value-added package in first, then the Flash Cards Support utility.
After the installation of these two tools the FN keys will work as usual.

Please, an update on the progress made.

  • Satellite C660-1J1 does not illuminate

    Hi guys!

First sory about my English, I'm from Croatia

I have the Satellite c660-1j1 for about 2 years now and never had any problem until 2 days ago, when he stops in the middle of work after which he used to shoot more. I tried to remove the battery and the ac power button and hold it down for 30 seconds, remove hard drive, ram etc. and did not help. I noticed that when I press start button / right stop green light flashes once and that's it... nothing another hapend... also, I noticed that it happens only when the battery is plugged... If I remove the battery and leave one plugged ac nothing happens... laptop completely died... also I tried plugging another adapter that I know it's working, and same thing.

So I think something is wrong with motherboard or dc in the Jack cable and power supply.

I would like to fix this myself if I need your opinion what could be a problem, so I can buy a right-hand side.

I hope if someone knows this problem or knows what that means green flashing of led.

    Thanks in advance

When you connect power AC is DC led on?

    > I would like to fix this myself if I need your opinion what could be a problem, so I can buy a right-hand side.
I can't say for sure but I'm afraid there is an electronic power problem and I don't think that you can remedy only Mr. it is part of the motherboard. In the end you can't find parts for laptop easier with regard to jobs.

In the past a guy from Croatia reported on the good service of Toshiba in Zagreb. www.mojservis.HR maybe you should communicate with the guys who work there and ask for help or advice.

  • Satellite C660-108 does not start if the USB Bluetooth dongle connected

    Hiya,

I hope you could help me.

I'm having a problem with my dongle bluetooth and satellite c660-108.
It all works perfectly. It connects devices via bluetooth and I can do whatever I want.

But then when I'm mobile stop and turn it on again it will go if the bluetooth dongle is always in the USB.

I see Toshiba screen and then it hangs with a black screen and a cursor flashing at the top left.
I have to turn it off, remove the bluetooth dongle and then turn it back on.
And then windows starts. After that, I put in bluetooth dongle, once again I want to work with her.

It isn't a huge problem, but it is a bit annoying when I have to leave the bluetooth and put it back again to get the windows began.
I'm running under win 8.1 but he already had with 8 victory.

    Anyone any ideas?

    > I see Toshiba screen and then it hangs with a black screen and a cursor flashing at the top left.
Especially the blinking cursor is displayed because the laptop can not find a boot device.

It seems that the device cannot put on the HARD drive while the USB dongle is connected.
I would recommend you check the boot order in the BIOS.

Put the HARD drive in the first place and the USB boot last device.
Save changes and check if it helps.

  • Satellite C660-223 - system caution: "" problem with cooling detected system "".

When I carry my Satellite C660-223 somewhere for example wear at home to College in a protective case in my backpack, I sometimes get a window warning flashing upward every 20 seconds or so said system + "warning: a problem with the cooling system has been detected." Please turn the computer off immediately and return it for service. +

This only happens when I transported somewhere and as a first step, that these warnings system flashed only sometimes upwards after I hauled somewhere, but in the last two years, he started to get pretty much whenever I took the laptop somehwere. When the system warnings blink until the computer doesn't feel a little warmer than normal. no danger of overheating, immediately.

I didn't fix it because the problem seems to resolve itself the next time that I carried the computer somewhere. It's a very strange problem where the short-term solution was the same as the cause: as in I would take the laptop somewhere, the warning system flash upwards and I learned that take "for a walk" would fix somehow everything which was the 'problem '. I solved the problem in this way too often so he could be a coincidence.

So for a while it wasn't really a problem because I just didn't take the laptop anywhere. But the warning system has recently start flashing to the top if I wear just the laptop on the floor, and the warning system does not disappear with my method incredibly non-tech-savvy to "go for a walk", which I am sure many here would give something to laugh :).

The obvious answer is that I need to get the service pronto thing, but I'm in the middle of final exams and the situation of tech in my house means I can't leave the laptop away for service for who knows how long when I really need to study.

Responses, I'm hoping to get are ideas as to what actually caused this problem and short-term solutions that are a little better informed that my approach "going for a walk".

I think THAT what is, is that the movement to carry your laptop around in a backpack something within the done cooling system moving out of place causing the evil TI work. I say this because, while writing this thread I was turn the laptop over and over again to get a look at the stickers on the back and the practice that seems to have "solved" the problem of warning system because this window flashes up while he was only a few minutes ago.

It seems so that all component moved his place before been moved back again by the movement to turn the laptop over and over. And I was not even take him for a walk!

    Any help? Thanks in advance.

    Hello

This notification may appear for different reasons.
The alert might appear due to
    (1) cooling system malfunction
    (2) blocked cooling vents or fans
    (3) software question (VAP - added value package or BIOS)

Malfunction of the cooling system, you should contact the service agents at the difficulty.

In case of a blocked vent and fans it s enough to clean the parts using a jet of compressed air.
This allows to get rid of dust inside the cooling module.

If the vents are not blocked and you still see this message, check the application of the service station for updates on your computer. If any are found, download and install.
You can try to uninstall or update the Toshiba value added Package. This package contains a few essential tools and utilities that control the cooling system too.
    Also check BIOS update.

But if you continue to receive this error, your laptop may require repair

  • Blue screen to Satellite C660-1EL

    Hi all

I have a serious problem in my satellite C660-1EL, I bought it for two weeks, I received free back and I installed WIN 7 Ultimate.

The problem is when I put on day of win 7 using auto. Update and installing these updates the notebook suddenly stopped. When I turn it on again it gave me a blue screen with the message "{color: #ff0000} {color} irql_not_less_or_equal" during boot.

I tried more time with safe mode, but still give me a blue screen before the victory. the startup.

I tried to install the new system using the CD original WINDOWS 7, but before the installation of the files are extracted, the bluescreen reappear.

I checked the RAM, HD, CD/DVD, in another laptop and it worked fine.

Also I tried to install WIN 7 using USB flash boot and Win XP PRO on CD, but still the same blue screen appears before the configuration copy victory. files.

Please help me, this notebook is brand new.

    {color: #ff0000} Note {color}:

Firstly the Toshiba start screen disappear, but when I removed the RAM and installed again it appear and I went into the setup by pressing F2 and restore the default bios, but still problem exists.

    {color: #ff0000} Sorry for my language {color}.

    Hey,.

The problem could be related to RAM modules as Timox wrote. You can test the modules of RAM with Memtest86. Which is a freeware software to test the memory modules live. If you do a Google search, you can find it. You must create a boot disk and if you start from that you can test the modules.

In General, there should be no problem to install Windows 7 on Satellite C660. If you have problems (blue screen), it could be a malfunction of the equipment. An authorized service provider can help you to repair the computer.

  • Satellite C660 - RAM Question

    Hi all

I have a question for the Satellite C660 I bought a week ago. Now, I noticed that it uses DDR3 1066 Mhz RAM and with the updated technology on a monthly basis, I wonder if I could upgrade to DDR3 1333 Mhz?

I read this model is expandable to 8 GB of RAM, but could not find a speed upgrade post anywhere.

At first, I have to confirm that your Satellite can be improved up to 8 GB of RAM and it is good decision to upgrade RAM to improve performance.
Upgrading Toshiba offers 4 GB of RAM with PA3677U-1M4G part number, then you can use two of them. This module is 1 066 MHz.

In General, you can use modules faster but that doesn t mean your laptop will be faster than 1066 MHz modules. If the motherboard FSB is faster at 1066 MHz modules need to slow down and will work at the set speed.

If your car can ride with 250 km/h, but the speed is limited to 120 km/h there is no many advantages for you, except maybe high gasoline use. Do you understand what I mean?
