Satellite L20-101: I think as 667 Mhz module runs only with 266 Mhz

Hello

I bought 2 x 1024Mo DDR2-RAM for my L20-101.
First I tried 533 MHz, but the laptop does not work with them, so I bought the
Version of 667 MHz.
CPU - Z says that the FSB:DRAM - ratio is 1:2 If the two are in fact run with just 266 MHz.

I've updated the BIOS with the latest version of the Toshiba-home page, but nothing has changed.

So finally, my questions:
1 perhaps CPU - Z is false (I don't think so...), are there any other good programms to check the parameters of memory?

2. If the values in the program are correct: where can I change the value of the report? Is it possible to see more than a few settings in the BIOS or is it a rider?

Thanks for your help

Hello

First of all it is important to mention that the Satellite L20-101 supports a FSB of 533 MHz.
So the DDR2 400/533 256 MB (PA3389U - 1 M 25) and DDR2 400/533 memory modules 512 MB (PA3412U - 1 M 51) should work and are 100% compatible!

If you use the module of 667 Mhz, it runs only at 533 Mhz due to the limitation of the front side bus.

In addition, I think you have misunderstood something.
Here are the modules DD2 and so the CPU - Z recognizes the speed of the modules as 266 MHz (2 x 266 = 532 Mhz)
If everything seems to be ok!

PS; You can also use the other tool called Everest home edition. It s a freeware and very useful to run a diagnosis system and equipment

Greetings

    Hello

I have Toshiba Satellite L20-101. He took 512 MB RAM (PC2-4300). Today, I added another module of RAM but this new module is PC2-4200. Is there something wrong with that? The two modules are DDR2 and 533 MHz and 512 MB.

    Hi Pawel,

In principle, there is no problem with the mixture of slightly different types of RAM modules, but normally the total RAM will run at the speed of the slowest module. When your notebook detects the right amount of RAM from two sticks then it don't will don't... no problem.

  • Satellite L20-101 - very low sound

    Hello

I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite L20-101, Windows XP (Service Pack 3). Yesterday, the sound of my laptop started to play very very low.

Drivers audio (conexant AC-link audio) seems to work fine, and I'm all set to maximum volume.
It was sudden. One moment he was working well, and the next time I start it the sound was strangely low.

I don't know if it's a hardware problem, or if she could we have resolved to restore the entire system with the recovery CD (I prefer not to do so).

    Any ideas? Any help?

    Thank you

    Hello

I think you should check the sound volume using the headphones.
If the headphones work correctly the problem might be related to internal speakers.

But to be honest it is really not easy to say what causes this problem as I said can be faulty speaker but you should also check all possible settings and perhaps a new OS reinstall would also be a good idea.

It would be useful to know if the sound issue would persist using the laptop with clean, factory setting.

    Hi maxco,.

About its pilot I n don't know why you're getting a blue screen with the latest version, but I advise to use the preinstalled version of Toshiba recovery disc. So try a point-to-point previous system restore.

Driver LAN and Toshiba Power Saver, you can download from the official site. Relocation of these tools should work!

  • Satellite L20-101: Question on battery & BIOS password

    Dear Sir or Madam:

I have a Toshiba laptop satellite L20-101, so can u please answer my questions below.

Is it better for the battery life to always stay connected to an electrical outlet when possible, or charge the battery and then use it until it needs to be recharged again? I mean what is best for the life of the battery, and I need to know if stay connected to AC power affects the battery life.

How can I set a password for the laptop not windows? Because when I enter BIOS setup and set a password for user and supervisor. He just ask me about this password when I try to login to Setup again, but it is still continuous to the windows boot without asking me about a password.

    What should I do?

    Kind regards

    Hello

The fact is that you can charge/discharge the battery about 500 times.
After this period, the battery will lose performance.
More recent laptops and batteries use the latest technology of load.
But I recommend to remove the battery, if you work on the DC for a long time.
In this case, you can extend the life of the battery and the performance

If you want to set the BIOS password and it should appear at the beginning, you must activate the password at startup option in the BIOS.

  • Satellite L20 - 101-, the fan won't turn on when starting.

    Hello!

I found that the fan on my L20 lights during startup (for the first few seconds). All started about 3 weeks ago. Sometimes it can be sometimes not. Than you think. Can be a serious problem? Perhaps it is caused by a weather? In the BIOS I chose "performance" mode

    L20 - 101, Pentium M (1.73), Intel GMA915, 1 GB of RAM

    ;)

    Hello

I don t think that this could be a serious problem!
Usually, the fan starts to turn if a temperature level has been reached.
The temperature inside the laptop depends on the use of the laptop

You can also consult the laptop for dust and debris fans. Dust inside the laptop may have a bad influence on cooling performance

But do not worry, everything seems to be ok ;)

  • Satellite L20-101: can't see my WLan access point

    Hello world

I have a L20-101. It worked well until we change our AP with 802n Apple AP again. I can see any other network, but I can't see mine.
    Any idea?

    Thank you

    Hello

Yes, I have an idea ;) How about you change the WLan card?
Seems that the new access point is not compatible with the wireless network for laptop card.
Maybe the minPCI wireless network card does not support the standard wireless access point.

    What do you think?

  • Satellite L20-101: could not connect my TV with the svhs

    Hi guys,.

    I have a problem.
    I have a L20 - 101 and I can't connect my tv with my toshiba svhs output.
I reinstalled the drivers for the motherboard and videography, what can I try?
    Thank you

Okay, it looks like a really not nice problem.

So, how do you try to switch to the TV? You have the possibility in your display properties, but not the machine * recognize * the TV? You also have the FN + F5 key combination to change the display, have you already tried?

And regarding your display drivers (including vga you? nvidia or ati?)

You can take a look here to find the latest drivers to work for mobile platforms:

  • Can satellite A100-784 - I register at 667 MHz RAM?

    Hello

I would change my modules of memory in my A100 - 784 (PSAANE).
Can I apply 667 MHz RAM instead of the original (533 MHz)?

    Initially, I have 1 GB (512 + 512) DDR2 533 MHz. I put in 2 GB (1 GB + 1 GB) DDR2 667 MHz.

    Can I do it?

Thank you very much for your answer in advance!

    Hello

    You can do it.
The point is that the speed of the RAM depends on the bus (FSB) front.
If the FSB supports only 533 Mhz then your modules would go only to 533 Mhz even if the modules support 667 Mhz.

If you n t know how fast is supported by the FSB then install a tool of free diagnosis, for example; Everest home edition and check out the unique values.

    See you soon

  • Satellite L20-101: problem of graphics card if I play games

I have a strange problem with graphics. Generally, all right, but I have problems with several games. Usually I'm not a gamer, but sometimes I like to play. Anyway.

When I get out of the game, the colors on the default backup screen. I don't like the default colors so I changed it. After the reboot, all right. Also when I go into the graphical console and click on apply colors became as they were before the games. What's wrong?

Also, is that when I play two games. These are games from codemasters. Maybe their games is not compatible with my graphics card?

I have no other problems running these games.

    Hi Pawel

Believe me it is not easy to provide any reasonable explanation. Maybe you should contact codemasters support. Usually after the release of the game display settings should be as before. I put t think that there is any sort of compatibility issue because in this case, you will not be able to read.

  • Screen flickers if I use Wlan on Satellite L20-101

    Hello!

I started to use my WiFi card about 3 weeks ago. My laptop has a year now. My problem is that when I use my card WiFi (Intel 2200BG) screen flickers sometimes. It is not very often (every hour or two) but iritates me.

Does anyone has this problem before. All solutions would be apreciated. I have no other problems with my laptop.

Very strange. Waves of perhaps a wireless LAN is a bad influence on the screen?
It is relly very strange because the problem sometimes, but not always.

Are you sure that this happens when you use the WiFi network or maybe it's a problem general screen at 100%. Sometimes the screen begins to blink because the inverter is faulty FL.

Have you tried to update the graphic driver WLan driver? Do it!
You should also compare the BIOS installed on your portable computer with the BIOS on Toshiba page. Maybe an update will help you. But be careful. Be sure you use the good BIOS and the right update procedure.

  • Sam L20-101 or satellite M40X-231? Need your opinion

Hi, I'm looking for a laptop and I hesitate between the Satellite L20-101 and Satellite M40X-231. I am aware of the differences and would like to hear user experiences.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Well, I think, between these two units, there is no major differences. Both units have a size of drive HARD and similar memory. Only the graphics card has other performance. The L20 has a shared memory graphics card and the M40X has a graphics card with the chip memory own 64 MB. In this case, if you need this device for applications of high-performance graphics (games), I'd buy the M40X. Moreover, I like the nice design of M40X. She very nice unit s :)

    Good bye

  • W2K for L20 - 101 Drivers needed

    Dear all,

Can I ask a few straight questions that I would really appreciate clear answers. This is related to the Windows 2000 for Satellite L20-101 drivers (I installed W2K with SP4 and everything works, but none of the fancy stuff work as hot keys, Manager wireless (wireless LAN works, but I have to manually configure the connection and I can only have one active at the time, etc...))

    1 are there DRIVERS for W2K for L20 - 101?

    2. they are all available or only few?

    3. If not (what I think) what should I do then? I can't use XP.

    4. What is the 'Official' answer from Toshiba? They pilot site does list ALL the drivers for W2K to the L20-101

All the 'rights' answers would be very useful.

    Thanks to you all
    Imad

    Hello

I don't know why you can use the WinXP, but the fact is that this unit was shipped only with Win XP. In this case, you will find especially drivers of Windows XP on the Web from Toshiba site.

On the European driver page you can find the drivers for WinXP und Bluetooth driver for W2k.
Well, I found on a U.S. website drivers for Satellite L25-S121. There are some drivers listed. As far as I know, the drivers are for WinXp and W2k. In this case, you can use a same driver for W2k and WinXP.
About Wireless: Generally Windows control wireless configuration. It is a procedure on the WinXP. If you use an Atheros Wlan card, you can use the Atheros Wlan utility to configure the WiFi network or the configuration of Windows. There is NO difference.
And usually, you can use only one wireless network connection at the same time.

See the page of the European pilot and an American Internet site:

  • Replacing screen on Satellite L20 182

My monitor satellite L20-128 is broken, so I need to replace it with a new one, I get the same. I mean with the same number (LQ150X1LHS2 / B 5XD24863), or there are other choices?

    Hello

Generally, you should always buy the parts recommended by the manufacturer of the laptop!
Then you could be 100% sure that the part (display) is right.

To my knowledge, the laptop uses a 15.0 "1024 x 768 TFT screen.
It is important that you buy the same size 15.
The resolution is not very import.
I m sure that the graphic card supports a higher resolution than 1024 x 768 and if you go to buy a screen that supports a higher resolution, you will be able to define the display on a higher resolution.
