  Unfortunately, the screen of the laptop doesn't support resolution 1280 x 800, it is a WXGA resolution screen. If you want a higher resolution screen, you can change either with a WXGA + or resolution LCD WSXGA +, but which will void the warranty.   As I know there is only one flat cable which is connected to the screen, as well as the motherboard.
  But I can't say for sure that the cable is the troublemaker... it could be the cable problem, but that's just an assumption...
  In any case, I think that the laptop must be disassembled in order to know if it's really a problem of cable and a disassembly of the laptop can be very difficult if you have no instructions detailed step by step.

  I m not L500 owner so I can't tell you if that happened or not.
  I A200 and U400 for my company and I didn t have shown such symptoms in the past

  It might be a problem of display or something with the graphics card.

  If you see this new symptom then I would recommend connecting the laptop for external monitor to check if the same would be visible on the screen 2.

  OK, I have a Satellite L500 and I got it in December 2009. Since I got it, if I ever press the function key the BSOD appears and the computer restarts.
