According to specifications of the laptop, this machine was delivered with pre-installed Win8.1. Yes, there is no recovery media. For years, Toshiba and many other laptop manufacturers offer laptops without disk installation, but original recovery image is saved on the HARD drive, so if everything is OK you can start installation of recovery of the HARD disk image or create a recovery media that you can use for installing the OS.

  • Satellite L850D - 12 p - no boot device - please reboot

    I hope someone can help

I have the laptop above and I turned it on to get this error

    + "No boot device - please reboot ' +.

    But was OK yesterday
It doesn't let me in Bios at all. As soon as I turn it on I get this message instantly
I tried a new hard drive in the laptop, but still the same error

    Hello

    > I tried a new hard drive in the laptop, but still the same error

The laptop computer was preinstalled with the Win 8 System.
The laptop BIOS UEFI s takes the mode and secure boot.
This means that if the secure boot and UEFI is enabled, the laptop is unable to start the external device or wouldn't boot to other systems such as Windows 7 or Linux.

To install another system, you must change the mode MSC UEFI boot mode and have disable secure boot option.

To access the BIOS, you must press the F2 key immediately after the laptop has been powered.

  • Re: Satellite L850 - starting with "no boot device - please reboot"

I tried to correct this L850 - portable 1LK which keeps crashing and so on. But while going through the options in advance in the troubleshooting section (Windows 8). I tried, I think its called Toshiba Recovery tool and click on the option to erase data, assuming that he would remove all corrupted data, so I could reinstall from factory settings.

But now when I boot it just says "no boot device - please reboot" and when I restart it does the same thing. I tried to open the recovery partition, but there are a lot of different buttons that supposedly bring it I don't know if I support on the right. Any help?

On this virtual path, it is not easy to say what the problem is here. In my opinion, you should try to reinstall recovery image once more.

  • Cannot start by Satellite L850 - no boot device - please reboot

    Hi, can you help me?

I have a toshiba Satellite, win 8, and when I try to start it it shows the message 'check' media (fail) and then shows "no boot device - please restart."

How can I solve this problem?

Unfortunately for these questions there is not some sort of magic bullet. Start your laptop and press F12 to get into the boot menu. If it works check if there is the option to enter setup. Choose this move down arrow and press ENTER.

If it works, you will see the BIOS settings. On the first page (HAND), check if the HARD drive is listed and recognized correctly.
In any case, use F9 and BIOS to the default settings. After doing this use F10 to save and exit.
Check again please. If the same thing happen over and over again I fear you have professional m need help with this.

    Hi LindseyMarsh,

Thanks for posting the request in the Microsoft community!
I understand that the computer Toshiba laptop says "no boot system reboot device please. Try the suggestions and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

    Method 1:
You can try to repair the computer:

    (a) starting from the DVD of Windows 8.

    (b) click on repair your computer.

    (c) click on troubleshoot.

    (d) click on Advanced options , and then click auto repair.

    (e) follow the on-screen instructions and complete the repair.

    Method 2:

If the computer does not boot the system from windows DVD then it could be a setting in the BIOS that is not compatible to windows startup 8 DVD or it's hardware

You can make sure that the boot order is correct in the BIOS (Basic Input Output System), and the video card settings.

For all related parameters of the BIOS, I suggest you to contact the manufacturer for support.

BIOS settings are different for the different computer based on the motherboard manufacturer and the key to enter the BIOS can vary.

Note: changes to the BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

Just reply with the results. I'd be happy to help you further.

Completely erase the computer to start and am now only able to get a black screen that says:-

    "Control of the media.

    then, after two seconds

"No boot device - please reboot".

Restarted about 10 times now and the same error message.
When I press a key, the message is repeated.

    Thank you

    Hello

First, check which device was chosen to start the laptop.
Generally, the laptop should boot from the HARD drive.
Then, go to BIOS (F2) and check if the HARD disk has been set as first boot device.
In addition, you should check if the HARD drive is recognized in the first page of BIOS (size, name).
In the case where the HARD isn t listed, the HARD disk drive is defective and cannot be found by the BIOS.

This would require drive replacement HARD and the new installation of the OS.

Hello, so I performed a reset that restore my computer to factory settings, I have chosen to erase all files. I've done this before, and everything went well. What was going on, it was my disc useage was at 100% a lot and that something was wrong with my computer then I factory reset it. While the factory reset is 44% in "resetting your computer" and the next thing I knew I had 2 options, stop or start with advanced options. Well, I chose to stop it, 5 minutes later, I turned it back on and I ran a SMART check has no that was the ID # 9367LW-86J89N-MFPX7G-60BR3 followed by the product id that is shown above. He said that when I start to Boot Device not found, please install an operating system on your hard drive. Followed by the hard drive (3FO), I can only click f2 and it gives me the link to visit the Help Center. The computer saying that it did not have an operating system was not the first alert, that I had, it was something else saying there was an error of hard disk which then became not having not not an operting system. I tried to go to f11 and go in this way, but regardless of what it always comes back to the screen that shows the found boot device, please install an operating system. Help, please! Thank you. in advance.

  • Satellite L50D - no boot device please don't restart

    Hello

I'm trying to fix my parents laptop: it's a Satellite L50D-B - 14 p. It shows the error "No. Bootable Device please restart System" at startup. So far, I tried disabling "secure boot" and by replacing the boot mode 'boot CSM', without success.

I can see in the settings of the BIOS that the HARD drive is still recognized, is not dead. I don't have the installation diskettes.

Any advice on what to try next would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Any ideas on how I can proceed?

Is the fact that the HARD drive can still be seen in the BIOS, means that it is not dead? At the MS DOS command prompt, I typed in C: and it found nothing - it gives me to think that the hard drive may indeed be dead?

I also ran a program of removal of data from a bootable CD. He managed to acknowledge that the HARD drive has existed and acknowledged that he had 932 GB. However, it said 0 bytes were free (which is odd).

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • Satellite L855-149 - "no boot device. Please restart.

    Hello!

Recently, I have been making a mistake on my computer; driver iqle not less or equivalent. The errors were happening maybe once more 2 weeks. Yesterday however, it started happening every hour, then the second, she has restarted since the last crash again.

Finally windows did not start properly and it came with a recovery menu. I tried everything, except the cloth of hard drive because there's stuff that I need. After a system restore, everything worked, but then it crashed again. This time when I started it went to a black and white screen then reading letters controls the media, checking [fail] media and then no boot device. Restart the system.

I looked but each video and post is a different error as no found boot device. Insert the disk and press a key. So now, before I lug the PC World and get ripped £ 200 to receive no said that they could not fix the problem, I come to you guys. Please help me! Your My only hope! Hello

In general the media error check failure always appears if the BIOS cannot find the boot device.

In my opinion the various basic scenarios are possible:
First of all it is possible that your HARD drive is dead and so laptop can not find system
But this seems strange because in case of BIOS, HARD drive problems would turn to another bootable device as ODD or LAN.

So a card mother (defective controller for example?) general problem could also be possible.

To be honest, it of always difficult to establish a fair and definitive diagnosis without verification of the material first.
Anyway, in my opinion, you should check if the new HARD drive and the new installation of the OS would solve your problem.

Of course, you can try to start Notepad using a LiveCD bootable disk just to see if you could start Notepad without a fresh install of the OS.

  • Satellite C50-A0413 - no boot device - restart System

Satellite C50-A0413 that was installed with Win8 pr but I didn't like it so I decided to downgrade it so that I can install Win7.

I formatted the HARD drive and then installed Win7 on the HARD drive. Everything happened until perfect present, but do not forget that the HARD drive was working on another machine, so when I put it back for the things of my laptop went bad because the machine couldn't detect my drive again. Is he didn't keep show no boot device - restart System. What has tried to remedy the situation? Press f2 to access my utility set up 'Security' tab and change the value of the "Secure Boot" option to "Disabled" then the System Configuration but I can't find Boot Mode to change the UEFI to CSM.

  • Satellite C55: error - no boot device

My laptop showing No. BOOTABLE DEVICE - insert the diskette of starting, and then press any key

I do not have any disk how do I fix this

    Hi Renji

Of course, no boot device (typically the HARD drive) can be found and so the laptop asks to insert media to boot the system.

End most of the cases this message appears if the internal HARD drive is defective, and no system located on the HARD disk... it would be also possible that the HARD drive is not recognized by the BIOS.

That's why I recommend you to check the BIOS (first page).
Usually, HARD drive should appear on the first page of the BIOS, and you should see some HDD details such as size of HARD drive or the HARD drive name.

If the HARD drive does not appear, you will need to replace the HARD drive and retrieve the laptop using the Toshiba recovery disc.

You said that you do not have the installation diskettes... Well for me it means that you have not created the recovery disc in the past...
It was a big mistake; However, you can order the CD here:
