Satellite M30 - need to change HARD drive

Hello

I bought a Satellite SM30-104 (model No.: PSM30E-0QRYK-EN) in 2004 and it seems that the HARD drive is dead since it reboots windows xp family again and again. While Windows is loading, at some point, the laptop restarts from the beginning. I can not even access the Bios.

Therefore, I suspect the HARD drive to be dead and would like to change: SMART MK4021GAS HDD2182 B ZE01 T, 40 GB, 4200 RPM,.

Could you please let me know where I can buy a new, similar or compatible with more storage?

Your response will be much appreciated!
Best regards

Florian PAUMEIR

Hmm if the HDD died then windows would not load what whatever, and you get an OS message cannot be found.

However, if you want to change the HARD drive then you can do this
You will need a 2.5 IDE HDD. I think the 120 GB limitation due to the LBA28bit
However, it is my personal opinion perhaps more HARD drive would be compatible as well

    Hello

You can not replace the HARD disk controller.
The HARD disk controller is part of the motherboard and if it works badly then you would to replace the whole motherboard.

But are you sure you bought a good HDD?

  • Satellite C660 - need a new hard drive, but which?

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660-1f1 run windows 7 64-bit. 320GB hard drive there and I want to replace preferably with greater capacity, a but I'm not sure what would be appropriate.

    Anyone has any suggestions please?

    Hello

Satellite C660, but also other models of notebooks to new generation supports the SATA controller, which means that you need a HARD drive 2.5 SATA.
The size of the HARD disk is not relevant for the compatibility of the devices. This means that you can use HDD of 250 GB, 500GB etc.

But I wouldn't take a HARD drive for an upgrade. I would choose an SSD. This SSD drive is more expensive but believe me; It of certainly worth taking a SSD instead of HARD drive.
You will get great performance gain. This SSD drive is also very quiet.

Maybe it s best option for you

  • Satellite M30 is not unbootable HARD drive and I can find no error

When I start the laptop, I get only a black screen (after the Toshiba/Bios screen) and a flashing cursor. Nothing else happens. I didn't like the change of configuration, updates etc. before that happened.
I am able to start the computer from the CD (with a XP pro CD or UBCD4win) drive and access the hard drive (so I was able to copy all of my data to an external hard drive), it does not start only windows (XP Professional SP3) from this drive!

Using UBCD4win, I ran diagnosis tools like memtest and TestDisk, without any reported errors. I also ran DFT (drive fitness test) of Hitachi (which is my hard drive manufacturer). Have not found errors, too. I also tried the repair install of windows, which went very well, but has not changed the situation at all. Also, I tried fixboot, fixmbr and bootcfg/rebuild of the recovery console, does not solve the problem. Load default BIOS - no change. I'm out of ideas...

So does anyone have an idea what's wrong with the system? I find no error, but this thing just does not start from the hard drive. Any idea/input is very appreciated!

    Hey Buddy

    > there must be a way to solve the problem without having to reinstall the entire system.
    I doubt that!
Not all problems can be solved without having to reinstall Windows.

I know this is strange and it takes a lot of time to install all your programs, but I think that in this case, it is the only solution for this. I mean you have tried many things and if a Windows repair installation does not, for me are obvious: a relocation complete!

You can spend more time to solve this problem without having to reinstall Windows, but don t forget you can do a complete new installation at the same time.
    Think about it! ;)

    Good luck!

    Hello

It s is HARD disk controller.
You can use the 2.5 IDE HARD drive.

But if the IDE controller supports only 28 bit LBA then you could use max 120 GB HDD s.
If the IDE controller supports 48-bit LBA, you can then use more big s HDD.

48-bit LBA is supported because ATA-6 sets (also known as Ultra DMA/100, Ultra DMA mode 5 or Ultra-ATA100) IDE controller

I recomment to install hardware detection tool like Everest home Edition...

  • Satellite M40-154 (PSM40E) - which HARD drive new can I use?

    Hello community,

need a new HARD drive for my * Satellite M40 154 GR PSM 40th *. The old a HDD is: Toshiba MK8025GAS. The new need Toshiba also, 5400 RPM and 80-100GB capacity.
I already try to find out which is right for my laptop, but I do not understand much about the HARD drives. There are more types, like GSX... But I need one that is compatible with my M40. Pleas help.

    Kind regards.

AFAIK you can use each HARD top of page 120 GB disk because your laptop is a limitation of LBA 28 bits. This means that you can use the top of 128 GB of DISK space.

The new HARD drive should be have an IDE interface and size 2.5. All that s and normally each Toshiba HDD should work with these specifications.

  • Satellite A135 - new installation of HARD drive "windows cannot be configured.

I have a portable Satellite A135-S4467 with a hard drive failed (WD 160 GB).
I bought a new hard drive (WD 320 GB).
When I try to install windows vista (32 bit) on the new hard drive by using the original factory software installation CD toshiba, I get the following error message:
"windows cannot be configured to run on this computer hardware.

After reboot, Windows will start normally or in safe mode.
I updated the BIOS to version 1.9.
I tried also to install the updated RAID/AHCI drivers of intel to the windows installation, as recommended by the windows forums - I always get the same error message, even after several attempts to completely reinstall windows.

Several forums, I searched for recommended to change the settings of the HDD (RAID COSM) in the BIOS.
I don't know how / if to do this. When I enter the BIOS, I see the hard drive, but I can't select it, so I couldn't try it.

It seems that I've tried everything, without success. I took care to unplug all external/etc devices during the installation as well. I also did all the drivers are for vista 32 bit.

    Hello!

As far as I know the Satellite M70 was available with hard drives SATA and IDE hard drives. If you have a SATA HDD, you can use this HARD drive.

The Satellite M70 takes to load only SATA150 (SATA1) but this isn't a problem. All SATA2 HDDs runs SATA1 mode and are 100% compatible.

  • Do I need an external hard drive if I use iCloud?

Do I need an external hard drive if I use iCloud?  I had used a Western Digital My Book Essential Edition, 500 GB, for the past 7 years.  It kept blinking and blinks so I unplugged probably too old.

Now, I'm wondering if I should get another external hard drive or if iCloud does automatic backups.  I'm not too knowledgeable on these things and would appreciate help.

I use a Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite.

    Thank you!

Yes, you need an external hard drive to back up your Mac.  iCloud or iCloud library reader are not a backup of your data and documents.  Are the copy job. Get a new external drive with enough storage - Lear three times the size of the internal drive of your Mac and then set up Time Machine.

  • I need to change the drive to a new drive letter, but XP will not let me because he thinks that the letter is in use.

Quick question: I need to change the drive to a new drive letter, but XP will not let me because he thinks that the letter is in use, when it is not.

The question for a long time: I've updated two disks in my computer from 1 TB to 2 TB. They were e and K:. The KC: drive is used as a backup of data on E: drive.

I copied all the data on the old drive E: to the new, but when I put the new drive in place of the old, XP wouldn't let me assign the E: drive letter. It is ironic that several times, I see the warning that if you change a drive letter, some programs may not work - so of course that Microsoft is aware of this problem - however, it is annoying when you NEED to change a drive letter to OPERATE programs, but Windows won't let you. Sometimes, trying to protect users from doing stupid things prevents them from making things work...

Anyway, after some research, I discovered that if I put the drive E: OLD and "remove" the drive of her letter, then the letter E: becomes available again. It did not work, and my computer is now partially satisfied with his new E: drive. However, the same trick with the new drive K: does NOT work.

I removed the letter 'k': the old K: drive, but when I install a new one, it won't let me change it. It happens to be stuck at 'l': it's no use to me because backup programs are ready to use the K:\ path.

There is that no "K:" drive in my computer and I deleted the letter k: the old disk. How do I FORCE XP to designate the new drive K: so that my backup program can work again?

    Thank you.

Did you try to start your computer in Mode without fail (repeatedly, key to tap the F8 as your computer starts) and then try to re-assignment of drive letters?
I think that some programs on your machine may be playing with your drive letters.  Boot safe mode will allow Windows to operate with a minimum of processes that are running and you should be able to change drive letters in these conditions.

  • Change hard drive between 2 laptops

At work, we use the same models of laptops, HP Probook 4510 s.  Now, I need to swap hard drives between two of them, as it stops because it's hot.  Of course, this now happens after the warranty.

Should I do this swap of problems?

Although the same model, the Windows authentication system will see this as a new motherboard. However, because they are the same model with the necessary BIOS table must self authenticates without any problem and in all probability, you will in fact see nothing wrong.

The most common cause of overheating is the radiator for the cooling heatpipe CPU system get cluttered with dust. Any portable reasonable technician should be able to solve this problem pretty quickly in less than an hour.

  • Change HARD drive on Satellite L300 - Windows Vista need

    Hi all

My laptop hard drive is completely dead and the repair option didn't work.
I backed up all my data, etc., including the folder HDDRecovery and WinRE partition/folder.

This is a laptop Toshiba L300, which I bought in the United Kingdom (from the Toshiba online store) and I now live in China. I visited the workshop of local support from Toshiba in China, but they were unable to provide any assistance that offer me a disk empty (usually overpriced).

They said that they can not install anything because the model is different from those that are sold in China and the Windows Vista sticker is no more on the laptop (Vista sticker for a couple of years ago but I think it has never been a serial number).

Anyway, I didn't buy their hard drive and I didn't really get the original hard drive since that I didn't, and I decided to buy a hard drive from another brand for myself.

My question is: is it possible to install the Windows Vista (which I've already paid anyway) in my new hard drive? I don't know if it's relevant, but I will emphasize here that I saved my folder HDDRecovery both WinRE partition/folder. I'm not ready to re - buy Windows or buy the top-selling Toshiba Recovery disk. My plan is to install a Linux OS if Windows is no longer an option.

I could give you all the details of model and the order if necessary.

    Thank you
    Georgios

    > is there a way to install Windows Vista (which I've already paid anyway) in my new hard drive?
Yes, but you can do so via the original recovery DVD only.
Saved on external HARD drive recovery image is useless now. I put t understand why you didn t created recovery disk according to the instructions of Toshiba.

If you don t want to get Toshiba disc I recommend you to install the clean version of Win7. Your model of laptop is fully supported for Win7 and it works perfectly on your machne. I ve installed long ago on friends L300.

    Linux is also good alternative.

    It's your decision.

  • Satellite L750-16Z, bigger new HARD drive need

Now I need to buy a new internal HDD for my laptop and I would like to buy one that is at least 1 TB. What is the maximum capacity drive that I buy for this laptop and are there restrictions on manufacturers/brands should I buy? Are there good internet sources for this?

Also, I imagine that most portable hard drives are SATA now.

Thanks a lot for any advice.

No one answered it in 2015. Nobody knows the answer please?

Is a 1 TB SATA HDD good for my laptop model (Satellite-L750-16Z)? Can I get a bigger car? Is SATA the right one?

  • Guaranteed - just change hard drive on the Satellite A100?

    Hi people,

my girlfriends A100-407 shows really bad cluster errors in Microsoft scandisk, the indexer service research plant always shortly after startup. The laptop is about 23 months, so this should be a matter for the guarantee.

Because she really need the laptop for his study, I thought to simply by changing the disk hard so that she can use the laptop again immediately after reinstalling windows. Is it possible to send just the hard drive damaged in replacement?

    Thanks for the help!

The best way would be if you go to a local ASP and ask them.
They can order a new HARD drive and maybe you can get the defective HARD drive and take a new.

Of course, you can change the HARD drive by yourself if you wish. You will not lost the warranty if you change the HARD drive.
