Satellite M40-192 - Linux and network

English (but not perfect ;))):
First I want to install Suse Linux 10.0 on my new laptop (Toshiba Satellite M40-192), but Installation did not work, and so I had to install linux in text mode. Now, there is another problem with Suse Linux... NETWORK.

The Lan network is not working well, but the conifguration is right. Is there a will (drivers,...) or 'hope' lost, suse linux 10.0 running on my laptop? This statement, must then appear, I want to buy a laptop.

I hope that here follow many answers, to solve my problem.

Thank you!

Hello Dorfi

As you know that Linux is not supported by Toshiba and if you want to install it, you're on your own. Unfortunately, I have no much experience with Linux, but try it please visit the Toshiba Linux. You can find it under
http://www.Linux-laptop.NET/Toshiba.html
http://Linux.Toshiba-DME.co.jp/Linux/index.htm

Maybe you'll be lucky if anyone has the same or similar problem.

Good luck!

    Hello!

First of all, sorry for my bad English.

I have the following problem and ask for your help:

I need updated to my NB Satellite M40 192 drivers.

Unfortunately this isn't me, even to a list of drivers available with Toshiba to come.
    If I was here

    http://at.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=at

the available drop-down list field, the query with the

Asking for your help and thank you in advance!

    Hello!

Try to download the drivers here:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

There, you can search by Satellite M45 and maybe you set model number. This number you can find on the side of the button of the laptop.

  • Satellite M40-192: display freezes, cell phone then hang up on battery

    Hello

I have a laptop Toshiba M40-192 of 2 weeks. When running on battery, the screen freezes sporadically (becomes blurred with thousands of fine horizontal lines), the machine hangs completely. OS: Win XP home, SP2 no..

I did all the updates (but not SP2, because it causes more old software run defective): Win XP home, latest display drivers, update BIOS - nothing works.

Is this a known issue? It is a VERY BAD failure, because with that laptop you use data.

    Best regards
    Rambaldi

    Hello

His unit is known to me, but I never heard of this issue. In my opinion, you should backup your data and reinstall the unit by using recovery DVDs. Test again. If the problem persists contact your local or authorized dealer service partner and let check the device.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite M40-145: Portuguese and European models are different?

We bought 2 M40-145 and 2 Port Replicator III. These products are also compatible to the European and Portuguese Toshiba site. However, it seems that they are not. Can you confirm this? Is it possible that there are errors in the site?

    Thank you

    José

    Hello

I put t know if there is any difference, but anything is possible. The only thing I can tell you is that Satellite M40 cannot be used with any port replicator. Tecra A4 looks like Satellite M40 and it can be used with Port Replicator III.

Visit the site from the bottom of your laptop and you will see that there is no expansion port. Please contact your local dealer. I'm sure they can give you correct information.

  • Satellite M40-129 BSOD and does not start correctly

    Hi again.

I was working on my computer since my last question, but (almost) nothing has changed.
    The problem:
My laptop is booting, but only on very rare occasions.
    What can happen:
-l' screen stays black (almost 50% of cases)
-L' splash screen (Toshiba - in touch with tomorrow) becomes visible and nothing happens then (40%)
    -Notepad starts "correctly" (10%)

If the notebook starts correctly there are 2 options:
1st: I try to start Windows: it crashes with a blue screen with the nice request an update of the BIOS.
2nd: I boot SuSe Linux: EVERYTHING WORKS!

I tried to update the BIOS the traditional way, although it is difficult to get it started it runs until shortly before the end and restart the computer.
I don't see any confirmation screen as Im used to.

What I assume, that the associated BIOS startup problem.

I read a method for recovering the BIOS with a floppy disk, where you copy the BIOS. ROM disk and start the computer with the disc.
My question is: is this also possible with a CD (have no floppy drive), if yes: how to proceed?

I wanted to give a point of service of Toshiba, but if they can't fix it, I always have to pay 50 euros. I have to pay money to get my BIOS restored, but the service seems to be just a "-delivery service" the real point of service and I would like to speak with a qualified person, first :)

Hmm, you said that you have already received the traditional BIOS files from the ASP in your country. Then maybe you should take a look at this Toshiba document:

I can't find my network card all black can help me
My model No. # S3000 X 11, please help me.

    Hello

What exactly do you mean with cannot find a network card?
Is not possible to find a LAN 10/100 port or the LAN card is integrated and the operating system cannot recognize the LAN card?
Have you checked the Device Manager? You see yellow exclamation points?

If the laptop does not the LAN card, well you use a PCMCIA LAN card or you use a USB LAN adapter like this:

  • Satellite A100-192 overheats and stops automatically

My 9 month a100-192 * is overheating. specifically my cpu (processor intel centrino duo).
In normal operation (runing nothing too 'heavy', only for things like Opera, foobar, thunderbird and others) the temperature is around the 50-60 degrees celsius * and that it itself is too.

Really warm and not so comfortable to work, what makes the left side of the keyboard. The temperature is still higher than when running something demending. Do not have meassued that the temperature, but I persume it is really, really high.

After aprox. one hour of play "company of heroes" the computer closed like a messure of security due to the large heat (it happened more than once).
I do not think that the fans are blocked with dust, because from what I see they have clean air. Also I don't think it's the hard drive (it's temperature is about 40 degrees celsius).

Maybe it's my ati radeon x 1600, but I doubt that, as the temperature is very high, even if not matter what either graphically demanding (victory of base xp environment).

    What could be the problem?

    * processor intel centrino duo @ 2 GHz, 1, 5 GB, ati mobility radeon x 1600 with 256 MB, 100 GB hard drive
    * Jieme temperature CPU with CPUCooL

    Hello

    > In normal operation (nothing too 'heavy', running only things like Opera, foobar, thunderbird and others) the temperature is around the 50-60 degrees celsius * and that it itself is too.
Unfortunately, I'm not agree with you. The level of 50-60 degree temperature is not too high. My laptop also reaches this level if I m only to connect to the internet.

May I ask how do you use the laptop?
The laptop must be placed on the table or desk and you should have enough free space around the laptop for cool air circulation.
The cooling grids must be free!
Check if fans can turn with a maximum return.
Dust and debris inside of the laptop stops especially cooling modules run properly.

    What graphic do you use?
Have you used one from the manufacturing of the graphics card? This driver does not support a protection from overheating!
Therefore, you must use the drivers of Toshiba's own graphics card!

  • Satellite M40 frozen keyboard - and touchpad frozen

    Hello

I don't know what's wrong with this laptop, but I got it for a few months and the touchpad has frozen, sent to fix she came back and worked for 24 hours and froze. Could not have another 2 days to get collected and filed so now use an external mouse. 2 days ago the keyboard froze and doesn't work, then it works again for an hour or two the next night and has frozen - no key has nothing, even function keys. It seems to work when the machine is cold.

What is this connected to the touchpad frozen?

Anyone know why this is happening?

    Thank you

    Hello

It seems that this happens if the laptop heats up. He of right?
Well, you can try to pick you up BONES and check that the issue occurs if the OS is clearly installed.
If the operating system helps recovery doesn t, it seems that it s something wrong with the hardware.
In this case your laptop needs a service :(

  • Satellite M40-307: accessibility utility does not work with the limited user account

    Hello everyone,

I have a Satellite M40-307 (PSM44E), and I had a problem with the utility "accessibility", which displays an icon in the notification bar of Windows XP, to inform the user if the "Fn" key is active or not.

This utility would not work for the administrator would not worry so much, because the administrator is supposed to know what he does. But the limited user doesn't have access, that bother anymore.

In Administrator, this utility works quite well. But during a session of limited user, if I try to launch it in [runas / user: admin "C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Windows Utilities\TACSPROP.exe"],
I am replied that the file TCMSVR. DLL is not found. If I launch normally, a message tells me that this utility requires that I am logged on as administrator.

So, what can I do to use this utility normally, i.e. in a limited user Sessiona? *

    Hello

Well, you should try to activate the rights for the TACSPROP.exe.
To do this, you must enter the operating system as an administrator.
Choose the application, right click. There is a Security tab. Here, you need to activate the permissions for all users.

  • Satellite M40 recovery

If I have my Satellite M40 to format and install windows from scratch... will I still be able to use the recovery cd and get my comp. return to 'normal '?

Yes. This way your mobile phone will be clean preinstalled. When you are finished check it please this topic and do the same http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=5138&messageID=17384#17384

As much as I know Satellite M40 comes with the Express media player. If you want to have it once again it must be preinstalled in a first time. After the installation of Express media player install the operating system. I also recommend you create two partitions. You can do this by using the facilities expert mode. If you would like more information on this topic please read this topic http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=4462&messageID=14518#14518

  • Problem with heat on initialize to top with Satellite M40

    Hello group,

I have a question, when my laptop Satellite M40 warm up and I tried to restart the display changes to 2/3 and lock-up. Then I have to press the power button to stop the process and expect that the laptop cools a bit. I have them push the button power and Windows works fine. What is happening and what should be replaced or added software.

    Kind regards
    DJ

    Hello

I'm not a technician but I can say with certainty that described issue has nothing to do with the software and may not be resolved this way. Problem described is certainly caused by the material. It may be the graphics card itself or a faulty capacitor on the motherboard.

Technician sorry but only help you and give an exact explanation. All this can be tested with special diagnostic tools.

  • Satellite M40-136: network card is damage

    Hello

I have a satellite M40-136, which is a little more than 2 years. I have cable broadband installed and this had led me to discover that I have a problem with my network card (a Marvell Yukon map I think).

I had guys on the network at work to check the laptop and they say either the network adapter connection is loose or the card is damaged.
I rang one of their guys said tech that I need a new main board because the network cards are integrated on all laptops and PC WORLD.

Is this correct? If it is then it will cost an arm and a leg to fix it.

    Nicky

    Well, that's good.
Map of LAN (RJ45) is soldered on the motherboard.
Perhaps an independent technician with experience might be able to solve this problem, but in general, the motherboard should be replaced.

The motherboard is one of the expensive parts and you are right; the new Council is costing a fortune

  • Satellite L10-192: Video Out (TV screen is black and white)

    Hello

I recently bought a new notebook Satellite L10-192, and I have trouble with the video out of service.

The image on the TV screen is black and white. I have read and followed the instructions of the manual (indicate the video mode PAL B, etc.), but it is always black and white.

I have Win XP Pro without Service Pack.

Anyone has any advice on this problem? Can I change the resolution or color depth or install Service Packs? Or a Toshiba from the factory CD utility?

    Thanks in advance,

    Zoltan

    Hello

In my opinion, your settings on the laptop are right but please check your TV also. I put t know if your TV is a S-video port or you use a S-video adapter. Please check menu TV. Maybe it's for S-video option in the port.

If the TV doesn't have a S-video port, you can connect your unit as follows:
    (1) SVID-adapter that brings back the color! It works with any device with an s-video signal through a plug 4-pin or 7-pin. http://www.s-vid.de/images/SVID.gif
    (2) SCART - / adapter S-video http://www.mediaatlantic.com/product.php/366/1142//8aa0b1bbaf6020c785221873b2a985bd

  • Satellite L750 turns on and turns off by itself using Linux

Today, I had some strange behavior on my laptop. It closes unexpectedly, after showing a dialog box saying "your computer will stop in 60 seconds". And then when I turn it back on, it stops just before the start and it turns on by itself after a few seconds.

It not too much heat, the CPU temperature is normally between 50 - 60 c (I constantly monitored using Conky). In addition, someone told me to upgrade the BIOS, so I did it, but the problem persists. I also tried to replace the RAM and run a memcheck, but everything looks good on the side of the memory.

I use linux and had a look on ' / var/log/syslog ", but I'm not sure that I know exactly what to look for. Messages saved before you stop do not seem to describe something suspicious.

I use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, but it seems that the problem is more hardware related and I would like to study what are the causes stop randomly. The same thing on Windows, but there is no warning before stopping.
My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L750-11w.

    Clues would be greatly appreciated.

    > I use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, but it seems that the problem is more hardware related and I would like to study what are the causes stop randomly. The same thing on Windows, but there is no warning before stopping.

You have verified the functionality of the laptop using the Windows system, but have you used the Toshiba recovery disc and have you tested with factory settings?

I m wondering about the message: your computer will shut down in 60 seconds

If this would be a hardware problem, then the laptop would be closed without any warning messages.
So I guess there must be a software problem, I guess that some triggers for setting this automatic valve downwards.
But to be honest, I have no idea of what parameters can be

If you think that its hardware problem, I guess only a laptop computer technician would be able to help you.
