Satellite M40 recovery

If I have my Satellite M40 to format and install windows from scratch... will I still be able to use the recovery cd and get my comp. return to 'normal '?

Yes. This way your mobile phone will be clean preinstalled. When you are finished check it please this topic and do the same http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=5138&messageID=17384#17384

As much as I know Satellite M40 comes with the Express media player. If you want to have it once again it must be preinstalled in a first time. After the installation of Express media player install the operating system. I also recommend you create two partitions. You can do this by using the facilities expert mode. If you would like more information on this topic please read this topic http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=4462&messageID=14518#14518

Good luck!

  • Satellite M40: Recovery Procedure hangs on reboot after using the recovery CD

    Hi all

I have a clients Sat M40-197, which was badly marred by malware that I did a full restore using the supplied disc that has the number of product PMR400490EN0. After the reboot, the system hangs just in normal mode and safe mode, I noticed that the last connected line is Mup.sys, but even in this mode the system always starts. I tried to use Ghost in advanced mode do not resize the partition, but not matter what I try, I can't start.

Before taking what I think, this is my only option to use a standard OEM XP Home disk and the installation using the supplied product key I was wondering if anyone had solutions to this?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

First looks like a mistake to restore CD. I mean it s possible that the CD is damaged or whatever and then some data is maybe damaged.

If this isn't the case, then I guess that the following reasons:

-HARD disk no is not correctly formatted-> reformat it completely and create a LARGE partition
-HARD disk is defective-> check the HARD drive with a special HARD drive tool of the manufacturer (in most cases you can download it from the manufacturer's Web site)
You can also download "UBCD4WIN" (just google for it) and check your HARD disk with built-in tools
-Memory could be faulty-> use the "UBCD4WIN" and check the memory with "PI" or "SuperPI".

    She's...

  • Satellite M40 - 136 product dvd recovery

    Hello

I have problems with my laptop Satellite M40 136 I bought a year ago. If I close down the machine when I then turned it on it would give me a screen saying there is a problem in Windows and gave me the option 'Start windows normally', 'start with the last successful settings', 'start in safe mode', 'start in safe mode with networking' or 'start in safe mode with command prompt '. It would usually take several attempts before that Windows would fire up ok, any option to choose. However yesterday any have repeatedly tried it would not be in windows.

I decided that I need to use the dvd - rom product recovery is a relocation complete (fortunately I had saved my personal files). I did it, but at the end when he says 'ctrl-alt-del"to restart, reboot I got the same message"problem going into windows"with the same options. I repeated the recovery process 2 more times with no luck.

This morning, he did go further and asked me to go through the installation process of Windows (i.e. giving the phone a name, asking if I wanted to save the machine with toshiba/microsoft etc.) However he then pop up with the message "problem going into windows" with the options that I mentioned earlier. I choose any option that he ends up back on the same screen.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    HI Nicky,

It is possible that you have a problem with your hard drive. The operating system will always be usually resident in the same sectors of the hard drive even after a re-installation using your recovery CD, the same sectors of the hard drive will be used to store the files of the OS.

I suggest that you try to run a CHKDSK/F on your hard drive to see what it brings. Of course id there are lots of bad sectors then will consider you replacing the hard drive.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite M40 reads no DVD of product recovery

    Hey all.

I have a little problem that I hope someone can help me.
My laptop Satellite M40 fell while he was in the bag and the dvd player has stopped working.

I had repaired it and it plays CD but I can't get the recovery disk to work.
It opens, but for some reason, the files are unreadable.
When I try to press C after having turned it on, the computer sounds like it's working, but then the windows XP just icon appears.

Can someone help or give advice? I would really appreciate

Seems that the drive is not able to read the original recovery CD Toshiba.
According to your post, I don t think that the recovery CD is defective or broken.

In my opinion, the problem is related to the CD/DVD drive. Maybe the lens can not calibrate correctly after the fall of the laptop.

  • Satellite M40 - cannot boot from the recovery cd after format HARD drive

    Hello

After my Satellite M40 - 133 being affected by the virus of security internet I had to wipe my hard drive. The virus wouldn't let me do anything, boot without failure or system restore. I wiped the disk and it still wouldn't load up. That's why I had to do a full erase of the disk including the hidden partition.

After doing his now do not let my boot from the CD of restoration as it says invalid partition as his search for files that must be on the hidden partition. What can I do to get it started. I'm not bothered about to recover anything on the disc. If I remove the hard drive and put the recovery cd in, it excludes the disc and begins to start until he fails to see the hard drive.

Outwardly I can link the drive to another pc and he sees it as a storage device so I'm glad that there is nothing wrong with the hard ware - help please

    Hello

Can you see the HARD drive with all the details in the BIOS?
If this isn't the case, then this means that the HARD drive is faulty or not fully compatible.
If you can see the HARD drive in the BIOS, then this means that the HARD drive is compatible.

But this should not affect booting from a bootable CD.
Even if the HD would not be recognized in the BIOS, you should be able to boot from the CD. For example a live Linux CD has not only any disk HARD because the BONE would not be installed on the HARD drive, but it loads into RAM.

The question is; Why you are unable to boot from any CD?
Maybe the discs are scratched or the CD/DVD drive cannot read the disc more because of problems of laser lens
If possible, try to copy/burn the Windows CD using another computer, and then try to start using the copied disc.

  • Satellite M40 - how to use the recovery cd

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite M40 using XP Home
My anti virus has caught a virus and delt with him.

He told me to reboot, which I did. When he started toward the high winlogin.exe TI displayed cannot start because it is missing shell32.dll
I clicked OK and it showed lsass.exe failed to load because it is missing shell32.dll
I clicked on OK and a message showed the user interface login user interface dll failed. Msglna.dll failed to load. replace or restore the original dll.

I restart and it brings back me to winlogin.exe message.
Normally I upload these files and install them, but I can't the computer on at all.
I can't get the safe mode or safe mode with prompt orders and last known configuration failed.

I have a Toshiba restore disk but I don't want to do a full reformat and the other option on the drive says not to use it if you know what you
made with files - and I do not have.

I watch the options he had, but it just made no sence and would not make my situation worse.

    I hope someone can help.

    Thanks much sally

    Hello!

Looks like you have a strange virus on your laptop

But I put t know why you don t want to do a complete reformat of the laptop. The point is that the Toshiba Recovery disk contains a picture of the factory settings. This means that you can restore t that only some files and you need to do a complete reinstallation of the operating system. To be honest, I think that it is in any case the best solution, because I think that the virus can only be deleted if you format the HARD drive using the Toshiba recovery disc.
To use the only recovery disk, you must boot from it and follow the instructions on the screen. It of easy to use and only takes a few minutes.

If you want to save some files before you begin reinstalling Windows, you can put the HARD drive into an external HARD drive enclosure. Then you can back up your data from another computer. I did it and I have had success with this and maybe you too. It s worth a try.

And let me give you a little advice. After you have reinstalled Windows to use a good antivirus program and keep up-to-date. I have a good experience AntiVir (Freeware) and Kaspersky. In addition to activate the Windows Firewall or you use another firewall. Don t forget to install the latest Service Pack for your operating system and activate the Windows automatic update function. If you can get all of the updates in a timely.

I hope I could help you, and now you understand the best deal.

    Good bye

  • Satellite Pro M40 recovery disk install XP on satellite or L300?

I had a Satellite Pro M40 with XP Pro who died completely (hard drive). I have the recovery disk.

I now have two laptops more - a satellite and a L300, both with Vista. I want to install XP on one of them (preferably the L300). Is it possible to do using my M40 recovery disk?
A bit of googling suggests that the differences in the size of the hard disk - may be an obstacle. My M40 40 GB drive, these new drives are much larger.

Anyone tried this or have any advice?

It will not work. Before the start of the recovery procedure the laptop will be identified. If the recovery media doesn t code is code on the laptop, the installation will be interrupted.

M40 MS on L300 recovery no way.

  • Satellite M40 - format and install NO CD from recovery

    Hello
I need to format the hard drive and install XP Pro SP2 on my Satellite M40 - 239 (pre installed XP HE). How do we install the Express Media Player? Do I need to do before installing with my own XP disks? The Express Media recovery disk reformat the hard disk and let me choose the size of the partition etc.? Or should I first install XP SP2 (not from the recovery disk, it is my own), then the media player? And how do I install all of the tools supplied preinstalled in the factory? On the product recovery disc, it seems there is no installation of software for them, am I stuck with XP it if I want to keep the tools (Bluetooth, ConfigFree etc.)?

    Hello

Well, the drivers needed on the Toshiba page you will find:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
Please also check out this other post:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=8872

    On the express media player:

Should at least 150-200 MB of available free space on the HARD drive.
This free space must be on the end of the HARD drive and there must be unallocated.
To get this space available on party products 3rd HARD drive must be used.

  • Satellite M40-185: recovery CD works, now have serious problems

The problems started like this: once I sent the computer to sleep mode, and when I tried to reboot, the OS has not loaded (black screen just after the BIOS welcome screen). Safe mode etc. did not work as well.

I ran PartitionMagic 8 of bootable CD, and he pointed out an error on the Disk - Partition disassembled or smth like that.

PartitionMagic could not format my HARD drive (error reported during progression), so I decided to use the recovery CD. He could not recover the HDD-reported "unable to load FILE_BITMAP MFT" during the first minute of the recovery process. I tried all modes of recovery - nothing has worked.

Then I did a weird thing - I used an other M40 recovery CD, with 60 GB HARD drive (mine is 80 GB). Surprisingly, M40 another recovery CD could format and recover the system! Then I applied my recovery CD and it worked and system has been installed and working now.

But the problem is that now my os partition 60 GB. Really, what scares me, is that I can't use PartitionMagic now! During loading, he pointed out: the drive letter of the Partition cannot be identified. and write-offs of loading.

What is more, the system is now very unstable: i.e. the sleeping mode sometimes hangs system, Office 2003 is to report errors and does not (this copy worked fine before formatting).

Could you advice me what software to use to solve the problems of partition?

I can't go to Toshiba service as I am not in the country where I bought the PC, and there are some problems with the service where I am now.

    Hello

Have you tried to use the "sleep" after the recovery procedure before installing other applications?

As far as I know there may be a problem if a employee of application or active processes don t support hibernation and don t want to get arrested. Please don t worry about 20 GB of free space on your HARD drive. You can turn on is that the second partition as logical drive.

S ' please go on my computer on the desktop
-Click with the right button of the mouse and choose the option Manage
    -Under storage select disk management
-L' free space should appear, click with the right mouse and option to create the logical drive.

Please try to do it. If you have no success please write again.

  • Satellite M40-244 - cannot start from CD after driver change

    Hi all

I have a Satellite M40-244 and the original DVD drive is faulty. So I changed the drive with one that is exactly the same (same brand, same date of manufacture).

Under Windows, the new disk is recognized and works perfectly. However, when I try to boot from the CD, I am not able to do. I successfully changed the boot sequence in the bios, I tried all possible combinations without success.

One thing I remember is that when I tried to boot from the faulty driver, I got the message 'Not bootable CD' (the tested CD is bootable and tested on other computers)

Any idea anyone, I desperately need to install a new OS. :-(

    Hello

I doubt that you can boot from CD t if your drive works properly in Windows...
You can try another disc of starting, for example the Toshiba recovery disc or the disc from Microsoft, please?

Alternative try to load the default settings in the BIOS.

    Good luck! :)

  • Satellite M40-107: cannot re - install Powersaver - Code 0x7E

Recently, I had to re - install Windows Xp on my Satellite M40-107 (PSM40E). Everything went well. Finally, I wanted to install the powersaver and I downloaded the latest version for my machine from the Toshiba web site. Installation fine until I press the complete installation (kerncentrale).

A pop-up window appears with the message: fatal error, this programme will be completed. Code 0x7E.

After restarting the same message appears until the powersaver is removed from the Board to run.

    Hello

It seems that there is no general solution for this problem.
I found and read a few comments on the similar problem, and it seems that the Toshiba recovery CD installation will eliminate this error message popup.

  • Question about updating BIOS for my Satellite M40

So, my laptop does not start, but works recovery procedure. Support suggested me to update my Bios.
OK, given that the last time, it was easy.

    I downloaded the newsest version vor my Satellite M40 (PSM40) (1, 70 - WIN<= i="" have="" an="" ati="" grafics="" card)="" and="" extracted="" the="" bios-20070709161345.zip="">
    But there was a surprise:
Instead of getting the old data structure, as written in the FAQ update Bios
1 extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
    2. in the folder temporary three subfolders will be generated. "docs", 'Update - 3.5' disc', 'Update - CD - R or CD - RW"

I get a file only: BIOS of Windows Knockhill10GV170.exe
Extraction of it I get 8 files:
    -fdbase.img
    -InsydeFlash.exe
    -iscflash.dll
    -iscflash.vxd
    -KPM170. ROM
    -Platform.ini
    -The c:\windows\system32\unicows.dll

Now my question: How can I create this bootable CD-ROM to update my Bios?

Just to know: download all the other things are done on my desktop from my laptop is not starting ;)
I also tried to run the exe in the hope that it will create a floppy disk or a CD-ROM, but it is written "basic cfg address not found."

    Hello

Update the BIOS there are two ways to do this:
-Traditional mode (TRAD) and in this case, you need floppy
-Windows (WIN) and this update can be done under operating system running.

Update BIOS WIN will work if you run Windows on your laptop satellite. If I understand your assignment well you are trying to do traditional BIOS updated, but using the BIOS to WIN update. On the Toshiba download page, there are two listed BIOS updates and two of them as versions of WIN. This means that you can update the BIOS under operating system only.

Back to your problem: in the history one thing confuses me when you write: my laptop does not start, but works recovery procedure. Sorry, but if the recovery procedure is working and you will have clean installed OS.

Be a little more concrete in our laptop does not start. What happen exactly when you press the power button / stop?

    Hello Mohamed

  • Satellite M40-256 - error starting by CD

    Hello

a well known friend has Satellite M40-256, which Windows problem (error during the update and the manipulation of her children).

It does not have an external Toshiba FDD or ODD. This laptop is also no built-in floppy drive. Buying one for that matter? NO.
The boot priority has been changed: CD-network-HDD.

I tried another Toshiba no ODD (in BIOS not mentioned/found) of brand
The STRANGE original works/boots in another pc (via an adapter) very large.
I tried several CD/DVD to boot from (error is displayed): moment-Linux such as knoppix, suse and other windows CD, recovery CD,... without success

Each time the same result: the laptop has a black screen, the STRANGE is accelerating and after about 3 to 5 seconds, windows starts with the black progress bar.

I also tried to press C to force startup from the CD.
Some time previously, I had only access to windows in safe mode. But after uninstalling some updates, it ends with a license problem. This problem can be solved only by starting windows cd via cd.

It has a bios Toshiba 1.00 (interesting, seems old enough).
I'm trying at the moment to start the network. The Toshiba shows some messages regarding success/failure at startup via the network or a CD?

Defined execution bit one influence on behavior?
Does anyone know a solution to windows startup?

    Thanks in advance

Check the instructions posted by Akuma.

If it doesn t work I think that the CD/DVD drive is faulty and must be replaced. Contact the nearest ASP that you can find on the Toshiba site and ask for a replacement.
It of important that you buy a disc that is compatible with the laptop but the ASP that will.

    Good luck!
