Satellite P20-761: Windows will not start - it loads agp.sys then freezes

When I pass my laptop it starts with the Toshiba logo as if commissioning, but then the screen goes black with the following message:

We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware of software change might have caused this... etc etc.

Then I have a list of options to choose from:

Safe mode
Safe mode with networking
Safe mode with command prompt
Last good known Configuration
Start windows normally

If I have the choice between the options of safe mode the screen goes through a list of files ending with: multi (0) disk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS\System32\DRIVE.sys, then freezes.

If I have the choice between the last two options simply, the screen goes black and nothing happens.

Of I'm desperate is not to lose all the data that I have accumulated on the laptop. Stupid me not a not bother with backups.

Discs only can I find supplied with the laptop are 'tools and utilities' and 'product recovery dvd - rom '. Seeing that I am not a technical interest, I'm afraid to try just in case I lose all my most important files.

Help, please! Answers must be plain English as like I said I'm not really technical. Thank you. I cross my fingers.

Sounds like something wrong with the graphics card or with the graphics driver.

I think that you have no other choice than to use the Toshiba Recovery CD and attempt to reinstall the OS. I hope that the graphics card doesn t malfunctions.

It's very sad, because in this case, you will lose the data on the HARD drive.
Optionally, you can remove the HARD drive and then to connect to little via the USB port on the other computer, then you can make a backup of your data.

I have a problem with this laptop. I simply re - install Windows and everything worked perfectly.
Well I started to updated with windows update, but it took too long, and I had to turn it off

The next day, I came and turn on the computer laptop everything seems to work fine at that time, Toshiba screen and then black with white letters (I don't remember what they say), then the screen goes black and nothing happens.

I know that the laptop is on the cause of the leds in the front. I tried to turn it out and a star above, but the same result.
I myself have the installation and the tower to the configuration by default to try more options, but the same result. I think to could be a problem with the screen, so I Plug and external one no result either.

The computer was working fine... so I started to get worried (I am still worry).

I tried to boot with a CD, did not work, boot with Xp CD did not work.
I think that I have not tried many options but this where I got so far.

The laptop had some problems with overheating, but I do not know if that have something to do, make turns on.

Any suggestion? (btw, I open the part where the cooler is and nothing smells bad).

    Hello

My understanding of the notebooks, question had begun after that windows update was not completed. I think it s a system problem.

But I wonder why you are not able to boot from the recovery CD or the own Windows XP CD and impossible to reinstall the operating system. ?:|

You should try to press the C key immediately after that laptop was turned on.
This would allow the start-up of the ODD (CD/DVD drive).
However, you can also use the F12 key. This button would allow the start menu. Then you may choose the CD/DVD drive and could boot from the bootable CD.

    Feedback would be appreciated

Why my TestStand deployment installation appear under my Windows will not start menu of my target machine?

I managed to install the deployments of work to the target machines. However, I expected to see the classified facility "My TestStand system" in my Start menu, but it is not. Am I misunderstanding something here?

Also, if I do another target second deployment to the station as "My TestStand system B", all LabVIEW files in my previous installation for "My system TestStand" disappear from the directory (c:\Program Files\My TestStand system) target.

I use TestStand Professional 4.2.1 on Windows XP and LabVIEW 2009 development station.

    Thank you Paul,.

That solved my second problem and inspired me to look deeper for the response to my first problem. The answer lies in the tab 'distributed file","Installer properties' box 'create a program item:

Wouldn't be nice if it is automatically checked by default for main sequence files? Wouldn't also nice if "Upgrade Code" was regenerated automatically by default whenever we have saved the file *.tsd under another name?

This isn't their recovery process, Microsoft.

    Hi DavidMitchell,
I would first remove all external devices from the computer and try to start again. This means that any player mp3, external drives, USB storage devices, etc.

If this does not work and you're still stuck on these 5 options you listed above, then it might be time to use the Recovery Console.

  • Windows will not start completely freezes...

    Hey!
I had a problem that my laptop HP 7 windows does not start more... It takes time to get the Palm from windows screen and then it freezes when it gets to the office. Anyone have any idea how to solve this problem? I was thinking about the HP system recovery, but I don't know if that clears all my data or resets just windows. Don't want to lose all my data if its possible somehow. (I have the system on different hard drive recovery not on disks by the way).

    Hello

Hard disk 1 (303) fast means hard himself is a failure and change Windows is not going to help.  Replacing the hard drive in a laptop is surprisingly easy.  Although the machine in the following link is different from yours, the process is almost identical.

    Replacement hard drive HP

Once this is done, simply use your recovery DVD to reinstall the operating system on the new drive.

If you do not have your restore CD, try the link below to see if you can order a replacement.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00810334

A possible way to try to recover your files from a disk non-boot is to follow the process described in the link below.  The CD of the Ubuntu operating system you create can launched from the CD alone (IE it doesn't have to be installed on the hard drive) and I've often found to successfully extract data even a hard failure.  When you created the CD, follow the instructions and see if you can save your existing files.

  • Re: Satellite Pro L300 - update after the BIOS, Windows will not start

    Hello

I updated the BIOS on my laptop to the latest version and now it does not start in Windows. I can get to the BIOS menu. I tried to restore the default values and saved the day, but he's just a blue screen with writing on whichIi do not have the time to read it before it tries to restart and continues to do the same.

    Any ideas anyone?

    see you soon

    Hi chaospunx,

Which HDD mode did you use before the BIOS update? Perhaps this option, you need to change, then Windows will start up again.

You can choose between the mode of access AHCI and Compatible HARD disk.
    Check this box!

  • Re: Windows will not start on my old Satellite A50 - 105

    Windows xp SP 2
Marketing and toshiba screen comes on and then just a blinking cursor. Power and ctrl alt del and f12 produced 5 symbols.
Various arrow keys highlights 5 symbols in turn. Pressing enter on 1 (hard drive?)
    Why windows won't start?

When you enter the parameters of the BIOS HARD drive is recognized and registered correctly?
Set the BIOS to the default settings and try again.

Try to start with a bootable disc and check if the HARD drive is recognized correctly.

You must understand that on this virtual path, it is not easy to say what the problem is here. We don t know nothing about your machine except WXP is installed on it, further information can be very useful.

  • Satellite Pro A300 (PSAG9E) - after updating BIOS Windows will not start

Restart went well after update BIOS and Windows XP logo appears loads for a few seconds then a beep and restart - last good known or start Windows normally same effect.
Reboot back to start - this is a new laptop - using the BIOS of Toshiba s official download site.

Quite annoyed to try to find a way to upgrade or downgrade the BIOS.
Took battery and RAM to see if I can delete it?

    Any ideas anyone?

I think you mean BIOS * update * and do not upgrade ;)
    An upgrade is not possible

However, you can try to remove the battery and the AC adapter and wait an hour. After that, reconnect the battery and the AC adapter and try to start Windows.
Moreover I would load the default settings in the BIOS before starting Windows.

If it doesn't work, it seems that your ROM module needs to be reflashed. In this case an ASP can help you.

  • Satellite C665 is damaged, will not start

My internet and satellite C665 has been corrupted after download. The hard drive is ok because it works in my other Toshiba Satellite. The other Toshiba satellite hard drive now works an ok. But when I put the original back hard drive, he goes to the Toshiba page and you got to the bios.

I found out, after having tried everything, that I change the Advanced Start affecting fast it starts the next time. But after that, I have to go into the bios every time and change it back to normal changes, this return to fast and save and exit. Sometimes, it connects directly or to turn it off and it starts when I turn it on again. Very annoying.
Also, it will start up fine if I do a restart or hibernation. Although this morning he gave me a shock because doing nothing for a while when I left it on hibernate during the night.

Impossible to Flash the bios because it doesn't allow me to update and says that he does not update because I have the same version.
does not start on USB or DVD.

    I'm going crazy!

Stand by. More important is to make data backup. I hope that you copied all important data and make backup.

Now, when the data is backed up put disk HARD starts back, your laptop, enter the BIOS and set it to default settings. After this verification, if the HDD is recognized correctly.
To be honest I don't know what the problem is there but, in my view, the next step should be to test with factory settings so please use the recovery disk, if you have one and reinstall Windows recovery image and test mobile with its own OS preinstalled.

    Hi @Dontworry,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion dv6500 CTO Entertainment Notebook and questions with press < F1 > to < F2 > for the installer to start. I recommend to restore the default BIOS settings. You could restore the BIOS withthis document by selecting the reload the default BIOS settings. In this way, it will look at the hardware installed on your laptop.

If it's not a help to any first start Notepad hold b and Windows key. Just keep holding it. Once your nothing that happens, restart the laptop. This should restore the last configuration of the BIOS.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Thank you.
