  I know your question is around the age of 6 months, but this might help other people that it happens so that it is happening to me now and I did the research on it, and the most common reason for this is because the computer had a tune-up by done AVG. I don't know if you did but I certainly made (thought I was set, but apparently he screwed up again-.-) but AVG have addressed this problem (although I don't know why they don't just fix it instead of you tell how to).   No doubt the HARD drive is defective and must be replaced.
  You should know that a HARD disk is part no reusable who was going to die sooner or later.

  In my case, the HARD drive died twice within 5 years of the use of the laptop.

  It seems that the file format has been corrupted. You might consider formatting the drive in NTFS file system and check if this solves the problem. For Windows 7, the best choice for hard disks is NTFS.

  Note: Make sure that you back up the data before formatting the disk.

  I suggest that you perform auto repair windows recovery option and check.
