scheduling P2V using converter

We have recently upgraded to 4.1 and 4.3 VCS converter.

Now, I can't program a P2V more... someone knows what happened to this function. It was quite convenient

Thanks in advance

Hello.

Don't you have to "Import a machine" in the list of scheduled tasks?  If this is not the case, make sure that the vCenter Converter plugin is installed.

Good luck!

  • Speed of P2V using Converter Standalone

It has been a while since I P2V was something and I wanted to do a survey to see if there was something wrong with my setup or if that's just how Converter works.

It is not a real P2V - I'm trying to move a virtual machine from a test server (ESXi 3.5) on our new production server (4.0) of vSphere. I used Standalone Converter to move the virtual machine, but he said he would take a whopping 6 hours. Converter was about 5-6 MB/s during the show, but our HDD 30 GB said that he would take 5 hours, which does not match correctly.

Converter is usually this slow? Network cards are set to 1000-Full and our switch is set to Auto/Auto on ports.

    Hello

I've been using VMware converter for several years and it allmost seems that the better (more), he gets - it gets the slower.

Nowadays (build 4.0.1 161434) it is not uncommon for as little as 2 MB/s when it runs file copy level. Copies of level block and volume runs faster, but then you can't change of disksizes.

  • Scheduler by using SSL

    Dear,

Is it possible to configure the Scheduler to use SSL to connect to an SMTP mail server.
Does need to have ssl configured between the system components? because as fare as I know if one of them use SSL then others should also use (ssl everywhere)?

    Concerning

Lol you don't need to configure SSL on all the components, just for the Scheduler to connect to a SSL mail server.

Everything as you do not need to configure SSL for the web server or the OBI components simply use a LDAP SSL server is enabled.

You simply hit the correct ports, etc..

  • P2V Linux server using converter 5.5

    Hello

I use VMware Converter 5.5 standalone for P2V one of our Linux servers. I found the converter running on the vCenter Server gave me the error: authorization to perform this operation was refused. I used the credentials of root of Linux servers and run the converter as an administrator but it does not work. My colleague has a converter client on his computer that he ran and was able to run a P2V. We both administrative access to vCenter, but when he ran the client on your PC without connecting to vCenter, he could go forward with the P2V. A little weird... Any ideas?

    See you soon,.

    Bob

The account that you use to log on Windows Server where VMware vCenter Converter client is installed has administrator rights? And that the user is a member of the local administrator group?

Some post on the internet shows that work if run the converter using 'Run As Administrator' and put the user in the local administrator group.

  • SQL 2000 on Windows 2003, which is a physical machine is vSphere6 (P2V) using last Converter?

    Hi all

I am considering P2V, i.e. 2000 SQL under Windows 2003, in vSphere environment 6. Lastes converter he takes?

If this is not the case, how can I do? With the help of old converter? I did not before P2V. Your opinion will help a lot.

    Hello

It seems to work (tested with 6.1.1)

I would say stop all sql processes before the conversion.

  • Preferred solution for P2V (vCenter Converter or VEEAM)

I am analyzing and is about to convert a list of the physical servers in vmware VMs and I was wondering what is the best solution to use. Use vCenter Converter or VEEAM? I want to know what most people use out there and all the pros and cons with each of them.

    Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, Veeam does not have any tool for p2v conversion. So, in this case, you'd better stick to VMware vCenter Converter. However, once the physical VMs remaining are converted, you will need something to save them. That's exactly where Veeam can become very useful for you.

  • Question of P2V RHEL5 Converter 5.0

I have problems with a Linux P2V conversion. The OS is RHEL5, the converter is 5.0, the ESXi and vCenter are two 5.0 and the error is the following: "error: do not start the virtual machine of destination.» The highlight of the previous log just before the error is: 'in the meantime the destination virtual machine start the assistance of converter server '.

When I console using the virtual machine to see where it is in the boot process, it displays: "Load/boot/vmlinuz..." ». Here, he just constantly hangs and eventually displays the error above in the converter.

This jumps out at anyone as something they experienced?

Thank you very much for any help.

It did not work in the end. However, eliminating intermediaries, that is my local machine, seems to do the job. After having paid greater attention in newspapers, I found that the problem resulted from an HTTP error. I loaded the converter on vCenter from the pole to eliminate the network from my local computer to the equation.

However, now I have new problems: despite the success of my first P2V RHEL, I have a problem with my second. The VM Converter helper requires a login complete installation. It says the default passwords for 'root' and 'user' is 'password '. It does not work. A few searches on Google told me that I need to annotate the file converter - agent.xml with an indicator of password, but this file doesn't exist in my repertoire of converter 5.5. Any ideas?

  • Poor transfer rate using Converter standalone 5.0 compared to the 4.3

I recently started using the Converter new version 5.0.0.  I did successfully more than 30 years of P2V Windows 2003 systems using version 4.3.  Immediately, I noticed two problems:

    (1) the average transfer rate went from about 100 MB/s to between 0.8 and 2 MB/s.

    (2) the process has systematically failed after completion of the c: cloning and start on the D: drive.

I tried this on 5 different physical servers, ranging from 5 different servers host VMware ESXi 4.1 and the result was always the same.  I assumed it was a network problem or firewall and sent on a 'wild goose chase' network team for 2 days.  After that they were convinced that the physical machine being P2V was simply not sent sufficient packages, I went back and re-installed version 4.3 and restarted the P2V transfer.  This time, I received a transfer rate average of 100 Mbps (50 x faster) and the whole process completed successfully.

Has anyone else seen a similar problem?  No possible explanation?

The file you have to change is converter - Worker.Xml. It should be located under folder "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone". You should find the useSsl under the nfc subkey value in Config key. If not present, you can add this value as follows:

    ...

    fake

    ...

    ...

Save the configuration file and restart the worker VMware vCenter Converter Standalone service.
  • Problem adding a second drive to VM after P2V using Stand Alone inverter

    Hello

Let me preface this with anguish and you say how much of a hassle it has been from the beginning.

We owe to P2V a server having a 25gig main drive and a 8gig of secondary disk for data. We had to move the files a long distance with the help of FTP, so offers them to us in some regions, by ensuring that all files have reached their proper destination.

We have the files downloaded in the SAN and much to my surprise, the second disc of data showed as a *-flat.vmdk file without header hard file. I opened the browser and the virtual machine added to the inventory, but couldn't turn on with the second disc attached. I removed the second disk of the virtual machine and it has started well. But now I have a car I can access.

I would like to convert the *-file flat.vmdk to work hard file but I'm not sure how with my limited resources. I don't have the vSphere client to work with. I downloaded the RCLI for vSphere but I have to be honest, I'm not very good with scripts.

    I tried following this tutorial: http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1002511

But the notes are asking me to use the console, which I do not have access with 4 ESXi and vSphere Client.

Attached is the original .vmx file that was created during the P2V

You will also find a screeshot of the files I work with that

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to the communities.

You can run through to revive the P2V conversion and just select the second drive. It's probably the easiest get right.

You can access the console on ESXi using the Mode of Tech Support

    For 4.1 http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1017910/

    For 4 http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003677/

  • P2V using the same material

    Hi all

I'll start by saying that this is not my first deployment ESX/ESXi and I'll also say that I looked for a solution to my problem without success, but I know that there must be a guide somewhere (this is probably my search warrant that lead me to the wrong direction).

As I said above, this isn't my first deployment... Heck, it's not yet my first P2V but this is the first time I was invited to virtualize a Windows 2003 SBS box on the hardware it is running on.  I thought that it should be pretty starightforward so I launched the converter and sought the option convert my physical machine in a file that I could then import to the same server running server ESXi hardware (once I had it installed hours later).

Can someone please help me find a guide or best practices to achieve this?

    Thank you!

If you have a large enough hard drive, or a network share, you can use VMware Converter Standalone to convert SBS physical area to a virtual machine, make the type of destination for VMware Workstation. Who is finished, you can wipe the SBS installation, install ESX and then use the converter to convert the VM Workstation in a machine virtual ESX (VDI). I see no reason why this won't work.

  • For the first time using converter, what should I look out for?

Im getting ready to make my first P2V and I was wondering if you guys have some type of "Checklist" you cross on the physical Machine?

I intend to install the stand-alone version of converter on the server, that I intend to convert. Which is the best practice, or is it better to push the vcenter agent?

    Hello.

The VIOPS site contains excellent information on the P2V process.  Section 6.4 of the practice: methodology of Migration contains the specific information you are looking for.

I tend to use the push of the approach of the officer, unless there is a reason that this approach does not work.  With both approaches, you will have an agent or an additional application to uninstall the converted server.  The ultimate goal is to get the server (or its apps/data) in a consistent state, so that when you turn on the converted virtual machine you can feel confident about his consistency.

    Good luck!

  • using converter to connect the cable presentation to SX20 codec

    Hi all

We SX20 and we need to make the presentation of video calls.

We have HDMI cable stretched between the codec and the Conference table, the problem is that we can't get more cables of the codec to the meeting table.

I tried to use a DVI HDMI converter to connect the cable to the codec, but unfortunately it did not work.

It is a specific type of converters that will work?

has anyone have the same problem and managed to resolve it?

or is it at least, is a document of cisco mentioning that the converters will not work in this case?

    Thanks in advance.

Amit: If you see a calbe like that "DVI2VGA" is already a "converter", at least if I read what Ibrahim.

In general, a cable or a DVI to HDMI adapter should work.

If this does not work, check with a different resolution or source (different computer)

and see if the cable is not for long (try a shorter for example)

and try the adapter on a different Setup.

Which would not have worked is DVI-> VGA and VGA-DVI-> HDMI > as VGA would break the digital signal

Analog = only VGA, HDMI = Digital only, DVI can carry both, but there may be no ordinary VGA2HDMI cable.

In addition, Ibrahim should check what is the definition of the type of entry for the dvi input.

I woud try it with first auto and then select digital and see if that makes a difference.

Please remember useful frequency responses and identify useful or correct answers.

  • Application of the ADF does not work after deployment to weblogic Server (quartz Scheduler is used)

I created a Web merger Application using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.7. I use quartz Scheduler that will run the application automatically according to a predefined interval.

The application works perfectly in Jdeveloper and no problem at all. The problem is when the application is deployed on weblogic server.

Simply, the Scheduler is not rely on weblogic server and the application is not running.

Any idea what can cause this problem? any idea would be appreciated, thanks in advance

You should check the server logs in order to understand what happens when you call the Scheduler. There, you will come to know if there is an error message.

Actually, it's the only way that outside help me to solved the problem. It has nothing to do with the quartz Scheduler , it was question of jdbc where the connection to the application module was not set correctly. Problem solved with application module configuration changed to use instead of the URL JDBC data source

  • [After Effects] How to use "Convert Vertex Tool" for several vertex at the same time?

    Hey guys,.

I used the "Convert Vertex Tool" to create a curve on a step of stairs and by mistake it curve all the point of my staircase which is what I wanted to do but point by point. I didn't know it was possible to point (s) at the same time.

And now I keep it again. I want to convert all the points as a curve at the same time.

If someone has the magic shortcut, please let me know.

    See you soon.

    uncurved.JPGall-curved.JPG

It's all using the right tools.

    1. Select the layer with the path
    2. Select the tool pen (g)
    3. Press and hold Ctrl/Cmnd and place the cursor on any part of the path to select - you will see a solid filled small arrow
    4. Release the Ctrl/Cmnd key and move the path tool, so you can drag a selection around the verticies
    5. Hold Down the Ctrl/Cmnd key to reveal an arrow small white selection
    6. Drag your selected verticies
    7. Release the Ctrl/Cmnd key and press the Alt/Option key to reveal the convert vertex tool
    8. Click on any vertex to change linear to Bezier or vice versa

This allows you to convert all the selected vertices. You can't click and drag, but you can convert it to a symmetrical set of Bezier curves.
